Dad had a 1971 Daimler sovereign in 1974 . We had family in Plymouth. Leaving Sutton Coldfield at 5 am one Sunday morning we travelled the 238 miles there in 2 hours 45 minutes average speed door to door 86.6 mph. An absolutely amazing car. Although I was only 15 at the time , I've never forgotten this car . Motorway only went as far as Exeter, beyond that was dual carriageway and only ordinary roads for the last 30 miles. The twin fuel tanks were empty when we arrived , giving an average consumption of 11mpg. What a car
I have got one too. Dark blue, manual+ od, biscuit leather and 7 years of work to get it in almost metticulous condition. Own it now for 33 years and still love it. Gert Stuve, The Netherlands
Very rare in manual form .....hang onto that , what year is yours ? I had one back in late 80'S to 2000 mine was a '74 SWB manual/od , was very quick , I regret selling that one
The Series One is my choice visually of the XJ Series Jaguar's, and while I have not personally owned one, I have had the pleasure of driving many different Jagua Models, including Series one through 3 xu6's, a series 2 XJ12, an E-Type and 2 XJS's, along with a mark 2, and a few others as well. Here in New Zealand they are still a fairly common sight on the roads, and here where I live in Whanganui, there is one Very Nice Series One finished in British Racing Green over Dark Brown Leather. They come up for sale from time to time, but the trick is to find a good one?
Alexander Sharp I’m sorry, I don’t share prices of cars on UA-cam as the car is the property of the new owner and the price paid is a private matter - sorry
Don't let Jaguar see this, they will rip the engine and gearbox out along with the dashboard and fit an electric motor complete with an Ikea dashboard full of crap . .......and call it progress .
I drove a XJ6 2.8L which i purchases from a widow. it NEVER broke down. Cars oout of the pre electronic aera are as good, as the one who maintained them. As long, as you leave it in original condition and do all work, as jaguar recommended, they almost never let you down. Same with MGB, MGC, MG B GT V8, TVR Griffith which i owned for years
you're welcome. Right now i own a 1956 MGA and yesterday i found a XJ6 S1 4.2 to buy. I hope i can do it. Love these cars and i'm not british! Living in Switzerland.
Series 1 is the most elegant of all XJ ‘s in my opinion.

4.2 automatic
What a beautiful interior! You even got the crome frames of the meters. Most handsome!

A dream car!
It has got E type V12 wire wheels. Looks very good. And of course the chrome rings on the clocks too. It drives so smooth
Lovely. I was lucky to get the chrome bezels around the gauges on my '71 before they switched to black. I just wish it was manual.
Love these cars so much!
Lovely, I’ve got a series 2 in regency red with a biscuit interior. Only real difference is mine’s a 4speed.

I looked at a XJ once. Basically it was a series 1. With the beautiful interior. But the exterior was a mix of series 2 and series 3.
Not bad at all.
Lovely old car.

I just bought a 1973 S1 in British racing Green. With far biscuit interior as you say.
Waiting for delivery ☺️
What are you paying for them these days?
One day, I will buy a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 or V12. Had a few Series 2's, a Series 3 V12 and two XJ8's.
Don’t suppose my old XJ is still out there. PRN 270K.
I suspect most were used as stock car racers, sadly.
Prn270k was last taxed to 1st Feb 1985... But changed hands in 2004... So could have survived and stored somewhere
Have you got any links to restoration photos ?
amirreza zobdeh sorry the car is sold

Jonathan Pardoe douche
I love classics but shitting on modern cars just because they're not classics is dumb.
Yeah we really should go back to carburettors, shouldn't we? SMH
@@adrianl7147 yes we should

Most of the bad reliability stories are from people who dont know to look after 40 year old cars.
Not true. I switched to a Pertronix ignition and coil and the car is remarkably reliable.
