Badge engineering was criticised in BL but it was unavoidable. It was necessary to placate the BL workforce. Each faction had to be represented. It meant that the 1100/1300 had six trim levels. It only needed two or three trim levels. It then led to an Allegro-Rolls Royce calling itself a Vanden Plas. People who buy an Allegro don't want a Rolls Royce and vice versa.

Most of them went to Japan. They seemed like a phantom to them little follow 😂❤

Really lovely car! I never used to like these cars but I absolutely love them now. Cars are just so boring these days.

The only badge engineered BMC product I would like to have, oddly enough the French loved them, perhaps because it is a mini Rolls Royce, it has buckets of style.

In my opinion, the heaqdlamp conversion spoils the smooth and 'modern' look of the car. I would have just fitted two good quality driving 'spotlight' lamps and got rid of those totally inappropriate amber bug eye indicators. White lens with amber bulbs fitted would have looked better fitted under the bumpers.

Any one know what he top gear ratio on these is? 16 mph/1000? I expect 50s all you'd want to do in it but then you did in those days....

Hand painted pinstripe done at Kingsbury would have been originally on the car but this one still looks a very smart car

Those cars were. Buetiful we had them as company cars then they changed the shape and style inside they were ugly cars inside and out

My first car after passing my test was a 1956 Wolseley 15/50 bought for £50. I then wanted a Magnette,but it was not to be,as at the time l could not find one. In those days it was either the Exchange and Mart,word of mouth or the car adds in the local paper generally on a Friday evening. I was fortunate about 30yrs later to find a Mk1 Wolseley 6/90,with(allegedly) a wonderful piece of history. I often used to wonder what if MG produced a larger version of the Magnette based on the 6/90 similar to the big Riley’s.

Bought 2 of these in the mid 70,s (Paid £60 for each one!!) Both 1958 Rover90 , neither fitted with Freewheel. Drove across Holland & Germany in 1975 in UFG266 , never missed a beat. Only 21 mpg i remember!! 😃😃😃

Hello, Danny. You certainly know your stuff. ADO did, indeed stand for AUSTIN Design Office!. BUT, because Austin were in partnership with the other connected companies, ADO was changed to meaning AMALGAMATED Drawing Office!

I’ve been a Landrover owner from age 18 for 50 years! Series to Range Rover Disco etc still own a few , but, 1day Igot a Hyundia Terracan and this thing is comfortable,economical, pulls 3500kg , I sometimes look under the bonnet-but never any thing breaks!! I’ll always love my Landys but I like an easy life these days!

The front valances on these always rusted. You could usually tell because owners would paint them black, probably a sealer.
