Silly dad tried to go down a ramp without properly looking into it on youtube. waiting for hip to heal then this will be the next trick to lean with my boy along with improving the ollie, your videos are brilliant thankyou 🤙🏼✌🏼
Hi Jamin, that is so awesome that you are doing that with your son - world's best dad :D Hope your hip feels better soon mate and that you can get back out there and shred
Thanks Joe ill be getting back into it friday when i pick my boy up and if we have a successful take on a trick we will post a video up on youtube. Ive been studying your videos quite alot and im buzzing to get back on boared lol roll on friday 😂🤙🏼✌🏼
I saw many other videos and can't get any result. You've just given me the key. I focused on "jumping" forward while pushing with the front foot and boom, got it. Thanks so much
That's awesome mate, really glad the video helped! Well done on landing it - seriously love the shuv and it opens doors to so much more. Keep killing it bud and thanks for commenting
i just want to say i’ve been trying this trick for so long, i watched your video and went outside and in a space of 10 minutes i landed it. thank you this was so helpful!!

Hunching of the shoulders was huge for me. Just landed my first after three 45 minute sessions, hoping to have it consistent rolling by 10 hours . Thank you 🙏

Hi Sophie that’s awesome well done for landing the shove it 👍 really glad the video helped - I have a pop shove it video coming out Friday which you might find useful - well done and stay awesome 🙌
Joe Walker wow dude! You are really kind! When I do them sometimes they don’t go all the way around and other times I try to flip it to hard and it go’s to primo. Btw I am going to sub to you and watch and like most of your videos because they are helpful and you are kind and helpful.
If Only thanks man I really appreciate the sub 🙌 so a couple of things 1) when it’s spinning into primo it’s because you back foot is scooping too much which will help you later on when you 360 flip etc but not needed for shuv/pop shuv etc. Stand with your front foot off the board and practice spinning the board with just your back foot and try to keep it level and land with only your back foot 🦶this will really help with muscle memory and board control. 2) when you’re on the board with both feet push your front foot forward at the exact same time you gently scoop your back foot backwards, hop forward slightly with your whole body as the board will move forward and BOOM!! You’ll land it. It can help at first to raise your arms as the board spins to control balance but you’ll have to iron this out later. Trust me mate you’ve got this. Push front scoop back hop and land 👍 lemme know when you land it bud
Joe Walker thank you so much m8! I can’t try it right now cuz I’m going to the beach to surf lol but that makes sense and is really good advice I will let u know when I get it
Man I just want to say thank you so much 👊 I tried these for the first time today and got it! My friend was so surprised, she said it took her months to learn. I put it down to watching your video!
not only when watching from their POV.. everytime I see someone riding regular, my brain thinks "it's so weird that he rides switch all the time"... lol
Great tutorial - I agree that the accent was the final piece of the puzzle for me as well. Appreciated the different POVs, especially from on the board looking down 👌 🙏

I can do the full rotation and get the shuvit but I just can’t seem to commit with my back foot. A few days ago I had it consistent then immediately lost it the next day.
Hey Jacob, thanks for commenting man - sounds like you’re real close to landing it mate. If it’s your back foot that’s coming off it’s literally just commitment if everything else is happening correctly. I don’t suggest going back a step for you. What i do is just force myself to focus on nothing other thank putting both feet on the bolts and then eventually the mental block disappears. Trying on grass or carpet might help but I reckon you’ve got it on concrete. Back foot scoop, front foot push, hop forwards with both feet, bolts, BOOM!! You got this mate 👍
Mate well done!! 👍 I find that’s a neat trick with all variations of shove tricks, make use of both feet 🦶 🦶 glad the video helped keep smashing it out there
Hey man, that's awesome! Well done mate seriously happy for you - I'm making a video soon about how I'm improving my kickflips so stay tuned for that mate I think it'll help most with their kickflips - keep shredding mate
Hi Adam, thanks for the comment mate and that’s the spirit! Most of the time once you’ve got the bad bails outta the way that’s when you land it 👍 good luck bud
Just started out on my skateboard yesterday and I've taken to the shuv it as a first trick. Gonna follow your routine and get it down soon hopefully. I was able to shuv the board around but could only land with 1 foot. Commitment issue I think, too. Btw you're in my end of the woods. Leeds central right? :))
Hey Kankan, thanks for commenting - that’s awesome progress and that literally how I’ve learnt every trick I know by breaking it down, building the steps together and then boom!! Full commitment. Yeah I’m Leeds centre - if you ever wanna meet for a skate lemme know 👍 good luck with the shoves you got them!
@@joewalkerskateboarding Thanks man, I'm taking baby steps to it, I got the back foot movement down and I kinda got the rotation of the board down as well, I'm just having some issues with the front foot timing, hopefully in the next days I can make it, your vid helped so much, thanks dude!
maybe don't force it too much.. I did the same during my first 4 weeks only trying to ollie, which I could just barely even after that month. But when parks opened after the lockdown, I started to ride miniramps, as I liked it more, and just practiced my ollies like only 5 minutes each session, which means each day, and then went back to what I had my focus on learning (rock fakie, rock & roll, axle stall, ...). About 4 weeks later, all of a sudden, my ollies were actually about to be quite good.
Totally agree with mekkanic here mate - I find this happens a lot to me too. I side line a trick for a little bit just tinkering with it here and there not expecting too much and then one day it's like the penny drops and you nail it easily, it's weird. Good luck bro!
Happened to me when I was trying Ollie - I was trying so hard but I still couldn't do it. I quit skateboarding and after a half a year, I did my first ollie on a 5th try :D
Thanks a lot ! A lot of people explain it with the front foot only jumping up and catching. Only back foot does the motion. I think that’s harder to coordinate. Kinda going back now to how it was first described me. Kinda doing a scissor kick
Nice tutorial but im having difficulties landing it. I have the scoop motion down and I land it with my front foot ever single time but my back foot is always far behind. Any advice?
Hi mate thanks for the comment 👍you’re so close to landing it - you just need to commit now. Pretend you have to jump both feet over a low rope onto the board and commit to the idea that you might fall and be ok with that because you’re not gonna get too hurt. Once you commit to that idea you’ll be able to do it - good luck bud let me know how it goes
yeah I kept thinking I was doing a lot of things wrong because the board kept moving out in front of me so it's a big relief to see that it's just part of the trick
i cant get the board to go all the way around 😭 my timing is off and i shuv too early so my front foot stops the board from going anwhere what do i doooo
Hey Fatima, thanks for commenting - break the trick down into the steps. So start by keeping the front foot off the board and just practice the back foot scoop. Once you are able to scoop 180 and catch with your back foot only then should you add your front foot. With your front foot, push forward at the exact same time as you scoop the back foot. The front foot motion is very important as this will stop the board going to the side of you or behind you. Hunch your shoulders ever so slightly just before you execute the trick and you'll jump forward onto the bolts. You got this - just break it down and you'll land it in no time. Good luck!
Hey Andres, thanks for commenting mate - really glad the video helped. The front foot really helps with the rotation and the jump forwards. Good luck out there bud
Great video! Just one question: I’m a fairly new skater, and I probably am a bit afraid to do tricks, but I always have a problem with popping the board (especially with ollies). Any tips or advice? (I also can’t seem to get the board to spin around the whole way on the shove it)
Hey milo, thanks for commenting bud 👍 what might be happening with your pop is that your front foot isn’t giving your back foot the room it needs to properly pop the board up. If it’s not that, try to think of the pop as a snap of the ankle rather than something you do worth your whole leg. Literally practice tapping your foot on the floor, that’s the same feeling as a solid pop. With the shove it: keep the front foot off and just practice the back foot scoop. Try to make sure you’re scooping straight backwards and not back and to the side. This will really help you when you put both feet on 😁 you got this mate good luck 👍
Hey maya, thanks for commenting - that‘a quite common that that would happen. To correct it keep your front foot off the board and just practice the 180 scoop and catch with the back foot and once you’ve got that down add the front foot and do the exact same thing. Good luck 👍 you got this
Hi ameen, thanks for commenting 👍 if the board is flying behind you try to put more emphasis on pushing with the front foot as this helps to control the board. The front foot should push the board in front of you ready for you to jump onto it - good luck! You got this
I’m trying the shuv it but the board goes to the side or rotates but away from my feet.. but the demonstration that it showed us with your hands, was suuuuper helpful.
Hey Ana, thanks for commenting 👍 if the board is rotating away from you then I’d put more emphasis on the front foot push this is the part that will literally stop the board going behind you and will keep it in front of you. Then all you have to do is hop forwards, hunch those shoulders just before you bend your knees to do the trick and boom you’ll do it. So focus on board control with the front foot and you’re good 👍 good luck
Just landed my first Ollie today. For any one struggling, what work for me was sincronizing the kick with the jump, and jumping from de board just with my right foot, poping it and kicking it, make sure you poop good, ALSO REALLY IMPORTANT, have your shoulders parallel with the board, this change the entire game for me. I practice 2 weeks straight for 1 hour daily, I practice the Ollie before but no consistently. Practice everyday and don't be afraid.
I DID IT!!! i’ve been skating for around 2 weeks, and i can do the board flip and a small ollie (still counts) as i was doing it i was about to give up because the board wouldn’t spin all the way until i realised that my back foot was not on the edge. i put it over the edge and higher then the board and i finally did it after only 1 hour!!!!!
Every time I try and shuv the board flips over😭I tried recording myself and slow mo and it looks like my back foot is tipping the board backwards when I scoop. Any advice?
Hey mate thanks for commenting - sounds like you’re bang on. It’s likely that the back foot toes are too far over the edge of the board. Try bringing the toes a little more on the board until it stops rotating the board. What you’re doing is great for things like 360 flips where you need it to do that 👍 you got this mate good luck
Hey Federico, thanks for commenting mate - haha!! That's funny! I can barely stand on my board in goofy stance :D Good luck learning the shove my friend, if you need any help with it let me know bud
Hi Barry, thanks for the comment mate 👍 that’s awesome! This is a great first step into the wide world of tricks - good luck mate, gimme a shout if you need any help
Hey Julian, thanks for commenting mate - that's exactly right, just hunch your shoulders slightly forward just before you're about to do the trick and then a slight jump forward and BOOM! You'll nail it mate - good luck bud

I learned a shuv it in like a day just practice on grass, it’s all mental
my man your helping me out soo much thank you i just learned ollie and trying shove it rn
Happy to help mate 🙌 well done on getting the Ollie 👍
U replied to all comments. You are so cool dude !
Thanks man that’s much appreciated 👍 means a lot that people comment
Dude I’ve been watching so many videos on this and he’s the only one who mentions using both feet to spin the board 🛹
You’ll smash it no problem with this tip mate 👍 good luck out there
Even as a goofy this was a great tutorial, got it down in a few trys, thanks bro ❤️
You’re most welcome my friend 😁 well done on getting it down so quickly 👍👍
yeah I kept thinking I was doing a lot of things wrong because the board kept moving out in front of me so it's a big relief to see that it's just part of the trick
That's right, it's supposed to go in front of you - thank you for the comment friend and if you need any support, let me know :D
i cant get the board to go all the way around 😭 my timing is off and i shuv too early so my front foot stops the board from going anwhere what do i doooo
Good luck!
This was very helpful other videos never mentioned pushing your front foot a bit.
This is the most relaxing and helpful skateboard vid I’ve ever come across
Hi lofi, really glad the video helped 👍 stay awesome
When I go to do the trick my bored moves the 180 but it lands besides me and not in front of me like it should, any tips
Hey maya, thanks for commenting - that‘a quite common that that would happen. To correct it keep your front foot off the board and just practice the 180 scoop and catch with the back foot and once you’ve got that down add the front foot and do the exact same thing. Good luck 👍 you got this
same thing is happening to me did this advice help u?
@@jaidenkempf9559 Ya it helped me a lot and I have the trick now.
I've watched multiple tutorials and yours is the best
Thanks Rat! I really appreciate that :D
Hey Joe. I’m trying to learn how to shuvit, but every time I try, my ripstik flies behind me.
Hi ameen, thanks for commenting 👍 if the board is flying behind you try to put more emphasis on pushing with the front foot as this helps to control the board. The front foot should push the board in front of you ready for you to jump onto it - good luck! You got this
Hmm are you sure we can do this trick on a ripstik?? 🤔 😂
Best video I've watched on the shuvit so far
Thanks mate 👍 really glad it helped
I already have the turning part on point all I need is to land it lmao 😂
I hear you mate 😂 it’s all commitment at this point - hunch those shoulders and force yourself to jump forwards and onto the board - good luck bud
Well done Juan! That's a solid effort mate to get an ollie in so short a time and excellent advice for everyone reading. Keep at it mate :D
Good work Binky 3! Well done
I DID IT!!! i’ve been skating for around 2 weeks, and i can do the board flip and a small ollie (still counts) as i was doing it i was about to give up because the board wouldn’t spin all the way until i realised that my back foot was not on the edge. i put it over the edge and higher then the board and i finally did it after only 1 hour!!!!!
YESS!! That's what we like to hear - well done my friend!
Thank u so much for this video :) i also made my front bolts white so i could remember its the nose like on your board
Thanks Saber much appreciated 😁 yeah it’s a great way to identity the nose quicker
Just discovered how dumb I am: I am regular but I tried to shove it for three days in goofy position
Hey Federico, thanks for commenting mate - haha!! That's funny! I can barely stand on my board in goofy stance :D Good luck learning the shove my friend, if you need any help with it let me know bud
@@joewalkerskateboarding it’s like starting all over again (I’m goofy btw)

“little room for error”
me: falls into ocean
… and starts surf boarding 😎😎 thanks for the comment bud
Awesome stuff mate. Been practicing balance and pushing for a week solid and this is the first trick i'm gonna commit to.
Hi Barry, thanks for the comment mate 👍 that’s awesome! This is a great first step into the wide world of tricks - good luck mate, gimme a shout if you need any help
Damn I think if I start jumping forward instead of straight up then I can land it
Hey Julian, thanks for commenting mate - that's exactly right, just hunch your shoulders slightly forward just before you're about to do the trick and then a slight jump forward and BOOM! You'll nail it mate - good luck bud
I keep jumping backwards😂
@@ottergang2181 hi otter, that’ll be a commitment thing - as soon as you jump forwards guaranteed you’ll land it 👍👍
Joe Walker thank you man your video has helped me out big time😁
Thank you so much. Landed my first shove it after this. Just need to do it moving on concrete now
That's awesome Finley! Well done mate - really glad the video helped
