Dementor might be the best way for someone to visualize depression. And I love the solutions against dementor-- think about the happiest moment in one's life. And that power arises from happiness would protect us.

What good is a happy memory if all you can see for your future is darkness and unhappiness?
In fact, a happy memory might actually make a depressed person even more depressed as that happy memory might have been the last happy event of their life.
What really works against a depression is to have someone help you enjoy life again. Otherwise, you are just left to wait it out.
As for dementors visualizing depression... Maybe. But that isn't the whole story. People might get the wrong idea, that there's something external that is making the unhappiness happen so they try to fight on the wrong front.
The "dementor" is on the inside and it's ever present. And the "dementors kiss" never ends, it just sucks you dry and leaves you to recover over and over again until someone makes you happy (a patronas in your mind) or the "dementor" inside you gets bored and leaves your body.

They didn't see him anyway, the Dementors are blind. He was gradually getting skinnier because he was losing his appetite, until he could slip through the bars as a skinny dog. Dementors sap energy out of people very fast, so he didn't have the energy to escape until he saw Scabbers (a.k.a. Peter Pettigrew) in the newspaper and realized he could prove his innocence. That gave him the energy to escape and swim to the mainland as a dog.
He spent 12 years there to be exact.

Exactly. Her and Barty Crouch Jr. are the most dangerous characters apart from Voldemort IMO because they're extremely patient and methodical and are able to infiltrate the school. I experienced something like the "Umbridge regime" in a children's spa (more like prison) during Communism and it IS horrible. Suppressing children's individuality, persuading them that they're mindless little creatures who only have to follow the rules, forbidding them to talk, torturing them in little ways that are hard to prove... Following the rules in a usual school is NOTHING compared to the lack of freedom and dignity I experienced in the spa. (For example, we were forbidden to go to toilet for three hours after lunch and had to lie quietly in our beds, not even reading. Imagine staring into a blank wall for three hours every day, trying to ignore the cramps in your bladder, when you're 6. I couldn't take it once and used the toilet, and was yelled at. And all the children thinking this is normal because they know nothing else...) I cried when I read the bit about Fred and George's fireworks and glorious escape. I would have needed someone like that badly in the spa.

Dementors always felt to me like a play on the word "dementia". I didn't consider them being depression at all. Rather I thought of them as the condition dementia, because they were written up similar to what dementia does, which makes you lose memory and become a shell of the person you once were
Although Dudley was always mean to Harry. After the dementor and Harry saved him than Dudley changed drastically after that and even started being “nicer”

Rowling did such a great job with the dementors as personifications of depression. Trying to explain real depression to people used to be a lost cause as there was no frame of reference for people to understand. Now, all you have to explain is that it's like you have a dementor next to you 365 days a year and people have a better understanding. She really did help a lot of people by personifying it.

It's an illusion. My own nephew is like a clump of happiness. The thing is, his mom has a terminal illness that affects her mind. So she's blind and doesn't even recognize her own 13 year old son. It tears him apart. He told me that he devotes his life to making other kids happy. I think by putting up the illusion of constant happiness they manage to fight off the depression.

They really don't seem at all similar to death, they don't even kill you!. They are however a perfect personification of depression. In much the same way as people of old making up stories to explain natural phenomena
, an invisible ghost that takes away all happiness eventually leaving you with nothing makes for a much better analogy. Death is final, ending, it's the opposite of what the dementors want and stand for.

The word "no" requires a capital 'N'.
After the word "die", there should be a comma.
In between the words "but" and the word "impossible", there should be the words 'they' and 'are'.
And finally, the end of a sentence requires a full stop.
So in total, you had 4 mistakes in an extremely easy sentence. At least my parents could afford a proper education, unlike yours.

💚🌲🌳🌱 I love forests, because open spaces make me lose my balance. (I have a depth perception distortion problem.) I have loved trees since I knew what a tree was. Years and years ago; I was in preschool.) I remember asking to go to the deep dark woods, and I wasn't scared except on uneven terrain (I have a balance problem). In fact, the first beach I enjoyed going to was by a river, not by the sea, and I have preferred freshwater beaches all my life. Yes, I love forests. Green and brown are my favorite colors, followed by beige, gray, and taupe. Even my favorite hymn tune is named Forest Green. I 💚🎼🎶🎵 FG 💚 🎼🎶 🎵

I have depression too. Chocolate is understandably helpful after a dementor attack as it produces dopamine, a chemical that causes happiness.

In a early script by JKR, the Dementors came to back up the Death Eaters during the battle in the Department of Mysteries and corner Sirius Black in the Death Chamber, wanting to kiss him for escaping them three times. Harry comes to late to help and moment before he is caught and kissed, Sirius throws himself through the Veil, escaping the Dementors one last time by literally choosing Death.
I wondered if the arch might have been something that the Peverell brothers might have produced.
@@thegreenmanofnorwich There is a video if you search 'The Veil Explained' that suggests far greater wizards had created the Pensieve, the Veil, and the Mirror of Erised in an attempt to go around death and bring back lost souls. And that the Deathly Hallows were the Peverell brothers attempt to do the exact same thing, and even possibly were paired with the first three items.
Oh yeah, that's a much better sendoff for Sirius.

My guess, they were stationed on the Outside, since everyone stays on the Hogwarts Grounds, anyone trying to get in must be Sirius Black. Unfortunately, the Wizarding world is full of flaws and a lot of plot points are very stupid.

The Dementors are blind. Aragog gets blind at some point in his life. The Basilisk is blinded by Fawkes. I found this very noticable when reading the books. Blindness coming up again and again.

For example if I see a plot twist coming well in advance it is almost always a sign that there was some super obvious foreshadowing. I also recognised Remus Lupin's name to be a very wolfish one (being 17 or 18 when reading it for the first time, having some very, very minor comprehension of Latin and being familiar with the story of Romulus and Remus) but him being a werewolf came as a complete surprise to me despite that and all the other signs.

Dementors were always visually my favorite creatures in Harry Potter. I believe the only reason I started watching the films was because I had seen them in a trailer or advertisement and wanted to know more about them. When I found out their nature, what they did and that they represent depression, I was game to watch the whole series.

There is a question I'd love to ask J.K. someday. "Was Dudley actually a squib?".
Think about it. J.K. Always included subtle word play into many of her characters. She names harrys cousin Dudley.... As in perhaps a magical 'Dud', which squibs technically all are. Plus squibs can't directly see most magic however they can sense it intensely. This could also feed into the theory that the dursleys were so horrible to potter because he was a horcrux and unknowingly poisoned their minds. Well a squib would be far more reactive to that force then a muggle, and out of the 3, dudley was the cruelest to harry. In order of the phoenix, when the dementors attack, dudley can clearly and very obviously sense them, while his two freinds are completely oblivious. And when vern asks dudley who did this to him, I got the sense that dudley acused harry not because he believed he attacked him, but because he suddenly realized that magic was real and if he could sense it he to might be as his mother put it..."A Freak", and in terror and confusion blamed harry. This may also explain why dudley in the deathly hallows actually comes to care about harry.... perhaps he figures out that he and harry have some deeper connection, something unexplainable. If that was J.K.'s intention and if dudley was a secret squib... that is truely a wonderful arc for dudley and I hope it's true.

Squibs are non-magical people born to magical parents. Dudley's parents are muggles, so Dudley's not a squib, but just another muggle. Also, his friends didn't sense the dementors because his friends had left the scene before the dementors showed up.
JKR has said that she wanted to give Dudley a magical child in the epilogue but then decided that no magic could get past Vernon's DNA.

The fact that J.K. Rowling based the Dementors on depression is ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT!!! I’ve battled with depression my entire life. Just about the time I barely started puberty, I felt this awful awful heaviness and horrible awful feeling come over me for no reason at all. I remember I went into my mothers bedroom to use the phone to make a call and this horrible feeling came over me. I had to sit on the edge of the bed and just sit there staring at the floor. I couldn’t understand what this awful ugly feeling was. What bothered me most is that there was no reason to feel this way but yet there it was. As the day progressed I felt worse and worse. And I’ve had to live with it every single minute, every single hour, every single day, every single week, every month, of every year ever since. I’m now in my early 50’s and it’s still there. Nothing makes it better. I wake up and there it is. Not even medication helps. And I’ve been on all of them. Prozac did absolutely nothing, and now I don’t even bother with meds. Meditation, eating healthy, exercise, nothing helps. Nothing fixes it. The dementors are my worst enemy. And although I can’t fully produce a Patronus, if I could, it would definitely be THANOS!!!!! He’s so big and super strong! He is so amazingly intelligent and brawny with both brain and the braun to squash them like little gnats!! Seriously though, I think J.K.Rowling was just amazing in her telling of her experience with depression. That’s EXACTLY what the depression (the Dementors) do; they suck out all the joy, all the fun, all the love, all the excitement, out of absolutely EVERYTHING. Absolutely all the happiness is completely sucked out and you’re just left with this awful feeling of emptiness and nothing and utter loneliness. It’s an AWFUL existence. I often tell ppl I live in Azkaban, because that’s how if feels......😓😓😓

Well a few years ago I tried CBD tinctures and a few THC tinctures. I’m just not a smoker. But the two tinctures were so flippen expensive! My God, one was around $300, and other one was around $350. I just couldn’t afford them. AAAAAAANNND they weren’t to affective. Nothing much happened when I would take a few drops under the tongue 👅.

I couldn't find something to relate to my experience with depression as much as the dementors. This is exactly how I felt, numb, cold, empty and void of emotion. I wanted to feel sadness, as sadness is tanglible and is much better compared to being void of any emotion. I like how the awareness of depression is raised in this film.
Dementors FEED on souls, so if they're kept in isolation for long, wouldn't they die (of starvation)?
