I've had requests for the ROM. Due to legality I won't be able to share it. However, I can share a patch file that allows you to modify a ROM that you already have. Check back here in the next day or so and I'll have a link to that!
If I patched my ROM, how would I know Venomoth's type? Would I have to guess?
When you got the Grass/Fighting type, I legit said "Breloominati confirmed" out loud XD
Where patch
@@unown9272 description
You should do this with your worst pokemon on your speed runs
Maybe randomising its type would improve the pokemon
Fun fact: Venomoth actually changed types a few times. In gen 1 he was steel/dark. In gen 2 he was changed to pure fairy.
He was dual Normal in the Gamecube games.
My favourite was gen 4, when it was a ???/no type combo. Great, considering its ability.
There are are hack in it its Bug psychic. I guess it was sacred gold. Its really mean 😅
If you trade a shiny Venomoth back to Gen 1, it's actually the Bird/Normal type.
Question is, which of his abilities is better? Forecast or Color Change?
I love this as a non april fools platform. This looks fun for you and is super entertaining to watch. I don't think I've ever been so engaged in a pokemon playthrough. Ntm the fan art is incredible to go along with it.
Thank you so much! I just wanted to make one small pedantic clarification. Technically it’s not fan art. All the artists are paid for their work on my channel. (Unless I specifically mention it as fan art.) Brian and Sarina are going to be working on the channel with me on and on going basis at least for 2023!
I thought every Pokémon was gonna be a randomized Venomoth. Yours. Theirs. Every single one.
Omg. Well there is always next year….
I really liked this kind of video. I always wanted to know what would be the next combination of types. Greeting from Brazil.
Greeting from Canada! Im glad you liked the video.
That was cool. You’re on your way to 100k subs.
51:03 I just realized that Psychic/Ghost is actually an insanely good type combination in Gen 1. There's no Dark type yet, It has two resistances (Poison and Psychic), THREE immunities (Normal, Fighting, and Ghost), and zero weaknesses.
Oh yeah. That is really good!
Here I thought this would be a pokemon infinite fusion run, where you'd use six venomoth fusions!
Ah, I get it: the April Fool's joke is that Scott refers to Venomoth as a Bug/Poison Type in the beginning of the video when that's clearly not its actual Type.
Adding the healing bed in the S.S. Anne was a really great touch.
for the longest time I really thought Venomoth was part psychic. It was on Sabrinas, the psychic gym leaders, team in red and blue and it learns a bunch of psychic moves though level up.
Gen 1 will never miss an opportunity to make something poison type
No, you’re absolutely correct that was my thought process as well growing up
I could totally buy it having bug, poison, grass, psychic, flying, or even maybe normal typing.
Venomoth is such a late game bug, Bug Psychic would have been totally appropriate and so much better for it in Gen 1
This seems like a great chaos randomizer for Pokemon, even outside of its April Fool's potential.
So ft ttgt
Venomoth is clearly a Venomoth type, which resists all types, and is supereffective against all types
That would make it 4x super effective against all duel types.
And is weak to every type
That sounds like the Nuclear type from Pokemon Uranium.
The legend plate in legend Arceus is actually called the venomoth plate in the JP version and was just mistranslated
Venomoth is all types. It is only weak to Rock.
A Bug/Poison Venomoth would be really weird to use, could you even imagine?!
Finally a run where Venomoth is properly represented as agent of chaos.
Indeed, it can take many incarnations.
The custom dualtype artworks for venomoth are sooo cool
The Ghost type granting immunity against lance's hyper beans was nice.
Yeah, hyper beans lead to hyper giants once you plant them. My man Jack knows all about that.
Amazing video idea! I loved the part where Scott said it's scottin time and proceeded to thought off everywhere.
How do I delete someone else's comment?
This was an extremely fun challenge! I liked getting to try and puzzle out the type changes as the video went on, keeping it a secret from the audience at first was a smart move. If you do more of these in later gens with extra types thrown into the mix, I'm sure they'd be a ton of fun to watch too!
It was also helpful for me learning the type chart a little bit better haha
This was really fun actually! One thing I realized is that due to the way Generation I works, if you ever do not get type effectiveness text when a move hits you, it means one of two things: you're a mono-type that is neutral to the move, or you're a dual type where BOTH types are neutral to the move. This is because the Misinformation glitch always gives you either NFE or SE text no matter what. It ended up being an added layer of information that made guessing types really fun.
Yeah, if it finds any text it has to show it, which is why the glitch occurs in the first place.
please more of these. these are fun to guess along with and hilarious
I like this as a concept! What I like even more? The fact you radiate enthusiasm in your content. Bonus plus; I love listening to you while dozing off to sleep, as you have the perfect voice that fixes my insomnia and gives my mind the fix that it needs to strike out for the day. Even better is that I know I can watch it again the next day in full capacity. Your content gives me pleasure twice ❤
I genuinely have so much enthusiasm for making these videos. I’m pouring everything I’ve got into making them better and better each week.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon you show that bro.
I wouldn’t know where I’d be without you, in regards to my mental sanity… you saved me.
That was super fun! Thank you for all the extra work put in to making something special for us. I loved the puzzle aspect of figuring out the types, and the sprite work was amazing. This dedication is the reason you're one of my favorite UA-camrs.
I'm always happy when venemoth gets featured on the channel. This is gonna be great
It's great finally seeing Venomoth showing its true type, Random. Great run, and lots of fun. I hope you had a good time with it.
This is a really interesting video. All the images of the different type Venomoth are really interesting. This was a great April 1st video. Please keep up the great work.
I’ve been watching for the last 3-4 years. This video is really really impressive. You put so much effort in to it and it really shows. You’ve come a long way and it’s awesome to see. Here’s to more continued success. You definitely deserve it!
This is the perfect video for April Fools day! I love that you made the mythical type changing Venomoth into a reality ❤️
Amazing idea for an april fools vid, I love venomoth so much so its a win win for me
Scott: "Stun spore only cuts speed and Venomoth has nice speed."
Me: *looks down to check Venomoth's speed*
Me: *begins to nod slowly while a smile creeps across my face*
i was nearly done with the video when i was so puzzled by your comment i had to start it all the way over to find out what you were on about, next time include the timestamp. anyway, whenever it was that he told that really funny joke it was completley worth it, like frickin heck guys you gotta see this its hilarious, even more funny than me not timestamping eithef
I loved this video, it was so different and so much fun ^^ finally Venomoth shows their true colors and now we know why you're so confused about their typing, it's never the same 😂😂😂
The answer is quite simple: *Bone Type*
(If you know, you know😎)
This might be one of the most creative Pokémon runs I’ve ever seen. Well done!
16:26 Slowpoke check
29:24 Second Slowpoke check
39:12 Psychic Gym Slowpoke
Lmao I'm hyped for this video. The fact that you always keep the game standard makes the variation that much more exciting!!
Lmao thats too funny 😂😂😂 my man you got that sneezdank rofl lol don't want you to hate it was nice to see them and all you can 🥫 the rest before we get the ball lmaooo
Would love to see something like this done with other Pokemon. This seems like a really fun challenge.
It's obviously the TCG jungle set venomoth. It's pokepower allows it to change type.
The sheer joy when he guesses the typing correctly. I’m catching some secondhand happiness over here!
Also my boyfriend and I are thoroughly enjoying this run! So glad you decided to make this! This has also become a joke in our family as well. Boyfriend is convinced my shiny venomoth is ice/water type XD
i wonder if when you reach gen 6 you will use the floette line as the type joke, after all it is an bug/fairy type
OMG! I love how you've casually dropped the healing bed joke
Sorry work, this is what’s happening for the next 54 minutes.
Arceus needs to hold an item to change its type. Venomoth can do it on its own.... Venomoth > Arceus
This an amazing April fools day video
"Rock type will be great for Brock!"
*immediately changes type*
Oh god, I never knew smog had only 70% accuracy.
Why does it have to be this awful? The poison type is bad enough, 20 base power is atrocious, poison is such a bad status in Gen 1, its considered beneficial for the opponent as it makes the enemy immune to all the actually good statuses...
Did they miss a "1" and actually intended it to be in the same category as firestorm, thunder and hydro pump?
And poison gas has the same accuracy as hypnosis - who at game freak though losing 1/16 of your health every turn (that you don't knock an enemy out on) was equally as good as being unable to do anything for multiple turns?
Yeah. Smog is so bad. Not focus energy or razor wind bad. Still, it's got to be one of the worst moves that actually sees play in these challenges.
I'd love to see a playthrough with a team of venemoth of all typing
Thanks Scott, this was a lot of fun to watch. Would definitely like it if you did it again in later generations.
This is AWESOME
Hec Y
Really well done.
This type randomizer run was so interesting! You should totally do it on other versions
22:00 why can't you teach it dig, it being a ground type seems like it would be real useful? I'm very confused by this statement.
Now I'm double confused, you figured out you were ground electric type and had the dig tm, before you faced the rival and your type was "randomized", but you couldn't teach dig. Then after you faced the rival and you figured out your type was ground electric you COULD teach dig. What?
The spirit of April 1st is captured here -- no mean pranks; just lighthearted and imaginative games :)
This was an absolute blast! I really hope you do this for every generation you end up playing.
Damn the concept in itself was amazing and made the playthrough something special👍
Really nice video.
Of course Venomoth is not a Bug/Poison type. 😅
Of course!
The healing bed is the April Fools MVP
This is absolute gold and it makes me very grateful to have stumbled onto your channel! Happy Fools day Scott🎉🤡
I honestly think it would be cool do this with every Pokemon 😁😜
Bringing the bit to life. Love the commitment.
Hey scott. I'd love if you considered making some content with pokemon crystal kaizo or blue kaizo, even if its just a livestream of a playthrough, im just rly curious to see how you would tackle such games and their bs. Btw I really admire your work, hope you're doing well
;)
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon :0 can't wait!
This was really fun! Defenetly do this again. I was a little sad, there were not many Venoth type arts, but I know art takes time and it would have probably taken too long. Also where are the bloopers? I'm only watching you for a few weeks now and not very chronologicly, but it seems to me you stopped bloopers at one point entirely
25:50 Venomoth indeed has nice speed. Well caught!
This was a fun video. I hope you continue to do future videos like this.
This would be fun for races with different pokemon
Venomoths type is just “yes”
This was such a cool challenge! I hope you do it in Generation 2, where the type effectiveness being correct will result in less overall guesswork. I'll certainly be looking forward to it!
I always laugh at the Venomoth typings… but the Fighting/Fighting one almost killed me 😂
I can’t remember what vid it was, but I’ll never forget the asthma attack I suffered because of it lmao
The "healing bed"!?!?! o.0
This is the video we've all been waiting for, even if we didn't know it
The meme progresses to the next level
I just finished my second playthrough for my gen one living Dex and decided to see how fast I could make my third in comparison to the video! I managed to get all the way to the entrance of Mt. Moon, but then got way too tired half way through the videO. I just finished before going to sleep!
The origin of the venomoth type jokes! I’ve been wondering! Fantastic and fun video, great job!
Your Venomoth type randomizer is very entertaining. It definitely has replayability.
2 minutes in, I'm betting that Yellow's quirky "its Super Effective" and "its Not Very Effective" messages will make the type randomizations fun.
Edit: My bet was wrong. It was less impactful than I thought.
Fun video :D
Thank you so much for this - so entertaining and exciting to follow along. You help the hour I spend on the treadmill fly by! 🤣
Maybe next year a Scott's "Thots" a Emerald Nuzloke with only Blaziken, Gardivor, Buneary, and Jynx?
Balance it out the year after with an Sun/Moon nuz run feat Digglet, Machamp, Incineroar?
I vaguely recall type effectiveness not showing up properly in Gen 1 when Type 1 resists but Type 2 is weak to the incoming move. It shows up as Not very effective, when it is neutral, I believe. Is that gonna affect this run, was this fixed in Yellow and only a Problem in R/B, is it fixed in your version? Also I am not sure how it affects stuff when type 1 is neutrally resistant and type two is weak to something. If it shows up as neutral effectiveness or if it properly takes into account type 2 then.
EDIT: Ah, thank you for properly explaining it. Never knew how exactly it worked. Nice!
This reminds me of those logic puzzles where its something like:
"A fruit cart sells four items: strawberries, raspberries, grapes and peaches.
Alice did not buy any strawberries but bought the three other fruits.
Bob bought two of the same fruits that Alice bought, but did not buy any of the same fruit as Charlie.
Charlie bought one of the same fruits as Alice and one that she did not.
Charlie bought peaches.
Who bought which fruits and how many of each fruit were bought?"
But for Pokémon typing instead
...
...
...
(The solution is Alice bought raspberries, grapes and peaches, Bob bought raspberries and grapes, and Charlie bought strawberries and peaches, with a total of 1 strawberry, 2 raspberries, 2 grapes and 2 peaches)
First things first: this run was really fun. Would love to see it again in the future from time to time. Because of the random aspect I think it would be cool even if you re-do yellow. Another pokemon that could do this gimmick is Smeargle (random type, you can only Sketch moves from your type).
I think you bashed Grass Poison at the start a bit too harshly. Leech seed is an amazing move and, while Poison gas isn't good, double DOT is useful (as shown by the Misty fight.
I also think you should've fought Misty before the rival, because, in case you randomized into water type (which happened), you could have upgraded Water Gun to Bubblebeam
If I were you, I would have hard guessed Ice / Electric even tho you knew you were a Ghost type, because if you got either one right you would be able to teach Thunderbolt or Ice beam (and weirdly it would have worked for electric although you eventually get it). It seems that whenever you have close to no information on your types it is correct to randomly guess a type you want to teach a TM. I say that because the run isn't as interesting when you just go from type to without even attempting to guess.
In the post Giovanni fight I think you should've kept the birds alive to do the post rival type test, but it didn't matter anyway.
Lastly, why does your type randomize after the hiker that sits in the elite 4 rooms? I thought it only changed against major battles. Guess that's a bug.
hello. I Love your videos and your voice is so relaxing. This Venomoth Challange was super funny.
I want to notice something: before I watched your Solo-Speedruns I never knew what STAB was, even the wikis only used this term. but since you always say the long term I learned. Plus I got some other interesting facts about pokemon.
I love your Videos, keep going with it!
Great concept, and great video! Though I definitely feel you could have been guessing your type accurately sooner in some situations. For example, after the SS Anne rival, flying resist + normal neutral guarantees electric type, and similarly fire neutral + water weak guarantees ground type. Everything after that was unnecessary to determine your type.
Not gonna get into the weeds with this one
Mild spoilers tho
At the beginning, not sure how the type effectiveness chart works again. I thought it's alphabetical? Anyways that message from peck could've still given you information about bug fighting and grass right? Depending on the order
Edit: alright yeah probably, just missing some details along the way. After the lass it was deducible that youw ere water because poison moves were neutral so you couldn't be ground type.
Gonna enjoy the rest of the video now, I'm just testing my own knowledge it's good practice
Ssssssoooooooooooooo...Armaldo Type Randomizer when? XD
Gotta say, this is definitely one of your better videos (and that's saying a lot seeing as your videos are always quality). I'm just glad you were able to take the meme and turn it into a fun gimmick for this run. Great job as always!
Just starting the video but suspect this will be your finest. The Legend. The Meme. The running gag. VENOMOTH.
I actually found out about that specific butterfree’s status only move set in a really tiny way. I was casually doing a playthrough of yellow on a plane to present some work at a conference and I had a 6 hour flight. I was playing on an ancient game boy I found deep in a drawer and decided it would be fun to give my childhood game a playthrough after over 20 years. I used the new glitch to get a mew right before fighting misty, and just learned the move transform on it before fighting this trainer. I used transform thinking I would be able to knock it out with confusion, but then to my horror I found it had no attacking moves. I paralyzed it before realizing this was a mistake, since new was my only Pokémon and I had no way to deal damage outside of spamming supersonic. However I ran out of pp and was forced to reset. It was a learning experience
I landed 4 correct guesses of the entire typing throughout the video. Post-Brock, Post-SS Anne, Post-Surge, and Post-Final Giovanni.
I would love to see this Type Random challenge with some other Pokémon. It could be on mons that know a lot of different Move Types like Mew and Snorlax, or mons similar to Venomoth that are mistaken for different Types like Golduck or Charizard.
Genuinely lol'd when I saw the title of this video on my home screen
Edit: Just finished watching and I had a great idea for a "hardcore" version of this challenge. When you first said you could only learn TMs that were the same type, I thought it was built into the mod so it wouldn't let you learn the TMs of other types, but then I thought well you could just spam TMs and learn your type that way, how could you get round this? But what if you choose a TM that's not the right type and 1, 2... Poof! It's gone! On this run you seemed to have a way to reveal the type to yourself after you'd just made a guess out loud, then whether you were right or wrong you would use any appropriate TM's, but this way you'd have to put your money where your mouth is "I think I'm this type so I can learn this TM... Oh no I was wrong and now the TM's gone!" Hard. Core.
I suppose you could also use this to your advantage by trying to learn a TM you're not really bothered about wasting to test the waters, but that would be your call I suppose, either way I think it adds another dimension to the challenge.
"I really like that Venomoth's starting type and ending type, when taken together, contain Venomoth's actual type."
"Obvious Venomoth is a Grass/Ground type"
he can't keep getting away with this-
I love the fact that the Pokémon you always got the type wrong was the one that screamed it's typing through it's name: Venomoth. Like, a venomous moth. Like a poison bug type HAHAHAHAAHH
Rock/Dragon Venomoth is to Aerodactyl as Hydreigon is to Iron Jugulis, in both changing Dragon to Flying and how good each are.
Also, this shows off how redundant Ice typing is. It is a convenient coverage type but others can get it done without the “convenience” of Ice moves.
Scott I HATED this video.
April Fools! ;) instant top 5 vids of yours, such a fun idea & play on that classic channel meme. 10/10
My first Pokemon game was FireRed, and I also got lost in Seafoam Islands. Masterballed Articuno, because I didn't have any other Pokeballs and never wanted to go back there :P
"I got randomized back into Rock typing!"
The Tick: You switched with yourself? *Lucky duck!*
I know this is highly impractical, but a “Whose that Pokemon?” type of run where the mon switches and you have to guess which one it is would be fun. That would need to be workshopped heavily.
You should do the run again, and I'd say more often maybe yearly, maybe quarterly idk your schedule but it would be a cool showcase of all the different types and fun match ups, since we didn't even get too see every type once.
My first randomized wild Pokémon I encountered in the wild of a randomized Emerald was a pink and blue Pidgey because it was psychic/water. 😮
Dude I think I'm just gonna leave like 50 comments on this video cause I'm like 3 minutes in and its great. Don't feel obligated to ❤ them all. Of all the starting types for Venomoth to get, it gets the one that it almost actually is (Grass-psychic)
This was a lot of fun to watch! I hope you do this challenge again. Even if you did it in yellow again, you would have an entirely different playthough. I might suggest randomizing 'Moths moveset and allowing it to learn anything via level up. That way even if you know you're a type/type, you might still get a move you wanted instead. It sucks trying to learn a move via level up you want but the move is grass and ur a water/dragon.
I’m doing a Azumarill solo of Emerald right now. Rollout is way better than expected. The song keeps playing every time I use in a major battle
I would totally follow you on Twitter, but I don't have my own Twitter.... and that shit is dying faster than my grandpa is rn... 😢 he's lived a good long life, though, and I'll hopefully be able to see him a few more times.
