You can skip buying booster packs now and just buy 2 or 3 copies of a starter or structure deck and mash the 60 best ones together and throw the excess in the trash. It's fucking lame!

I run Dinowrestlers with cards like Transmodify, Living Fossil and Call of the Haunted. I know I’m using the archetype differently than what was actually designed (aka the effects happen when your opponent has more monsters), but turboing out a 3500 beatstick with one-time protection isn’t too bad. SS Valeonyx or Coelasilat, NS another Dinowrestler, Link them into Terra Parkourio, use Living Fossil to bring back one of your Dinowrestlers, then use Tyrant Dino Fusion to summon Chimera T Wrextle. You burn your hand in one turn but hey
Very true. I run them with Lost World and the corresponding cards. Gives them a huge boost, but its a shame they can't function very well without help.
Shawn Li Numbers are barely an archetype, though. They’re just a collection of Xyz monsters. As someone who has tried to put together a “Number deck”, it usually ends up barely resembling anything to a “pure” Number archetypal deck.
So, the thing about how Ice Barriers suck at bringing out their own Synchro Monsters: As described in the DUEL TERMINAL LOOOOOOOOOOORE the Ice Barrier troops were meant to act as wardens keeping those things trapped.

The real problem is none of them could special summon itself and the only one that could special summon other ice barier is a level 7 monster (and pretty slow on that since he can only special summon 1 from grave at your end phase). *and to be honest their level is a bit awkward to special summon their synchro anyway

You forgot an extra effect that Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon has. If your opponent has no face-up monsters on their field, inflict 1000 points of damage to them at the end of each turn.
I have a funny story with raid raptor xd I only have budget decks, and one of them (and the second deck i made) was Phantasm spiral. In a little tournament i was playing against a dude with the field spell that summon tokens on your side and reduce your monsters atk by half (i don't remember the card), and he manages to summon the xyz raidraptor Now, i had my field full of those anoying tokens, but had the Phantasm spiral field spell, if you know about the arquetype you know that drawing into Phantasm spiral dragon is a dead card in your hand, but i realize something, not only in my hand i draw the Phantasm spiral dragon, but also in my hand i had "together we stand" Sooooo i did something i never expected to do in my life, tribute summon Phantasm spiral with 2 of those tokens, then with the field spell Pacifis i added to my hand Phantasm spiral grip (the one thar adds you 500 atk), then i equip both p.s. grip and togheter we stand to my dragon, and thanks to the tokens, my dragon surpased the attack of the raidraptor and i managed to kill it, not only that but manage to win the round :D

I think I mentioned it before awhile ago but a “Top 10 Cards That Need an Errata” and the idea can be used twice like an errata for bad cards to make them good and an errata to nerf “broken” cards.
I guess you will never have erratas for bad cards... 1. It doesn't get Konami money 2. There are too many 3. Just print a new card with a similiar effect, community happy because of nostalgie/ new support and money But I like your other idea. I would really like to see, for example a errata of the PK-Link (regarding the summonig condition)

Ouroboros is a corrupt trishula, but it's not a retrain, which is what he meant in the video. Although I wouldnt mind a video listing monsters based on how many different artworks they appear in.
When the Ice Barriers were released I loved using them so much. The archetype is pretty bad if used on its own, but that's why you would have lots of supports to help it out. Then when I realized that the Synchros made for this deck got banned because they were able to be used and abused in other archetypes it made my heart hurt. :( I love the Ice elemental so I wanted to make a deck specifically based around it, yet Ice counters are garbage and Ice Barriers (at the time) were the only other option for me.
I can remember a time back in the late 2000's when Brionac was an extremely popular card, and Trishula had already been banned, and they were hot trade items out of packs; until this video, over a decade after that craze, I didn't even know there was such an archetype as "Ice Barrier".
There's a part of me that's kind of surprised Harpie's Feather Duster didn't make the list. I mean, you could argue it's part of the "Harpie Lady" archetype, except that instead of having anything to to with the Harpie Ladies, it's just a backrow Raigeki, which is pretty damn good, to the point that it is currently limited to 1 to this day.
A bit sad that the Naturia extradeck isnt here since all of them are really powerful - Beast and Exterio being by far some of the best Negation the game has to offer while technically being in a super bad archetypes.
I actually thought about Naturia, since they have problems similar to Ice Barriers, but I think their main deck monsters are just slightly good enough to where they wouldn't be a high contender. They do revolve around their annoying negation methods which can actually be effective if they establish a decent board. They can also summon and technically use all their extra deck monsters, which is more than can be said for some on the list.

Gagaga Cowboy primary usage is the effect damage like you mentioned in the video, but I believe it was, and still is prominent today not because of the effect damage finishing an opponent off but because if your opponent has less life points than you when time runs out at a tournament, you win the duel. So Gagaga Cowboy was the 'make it or break it' for a lot of duels simply due to time; a quick and easy 800 burn to get the edge in lifepoints, and then winning by time since your lifepoints are slightly higher than your opponents.
Shame they lack a solid consistency in their artwork. Dont get me wrong, each AoJ is good looking on it's own But as a group, only the Synchro monsters have a vaguely consistent Silvery white, Gold, Black, and Red scheme. Basically the Synchros are RWBY themed
Not bad, but there's just way too many good Hero cards. Even Elemental Heroes specifically have some great options, like Stratos, along with some of the best support in the game.
Coming back this video so long after it came out, it is interesting how Gagaga Cowboy had such an impact in the TCG/OCG whereas Gagaga Samurai had a smaller but still notable impact in Duel Links. Since there is no Main Phase two for Cowboy to work with and his effect damage got cut in half, it makes sense that Gagaga Cowboy didn't see major play in Duel Links, but I wasn't expecting Gagaga Samurai to be used as much as it has been

Even though it’s not in the TCG yet, you definitely should’ve have Dragun of Red-Eyes on here. It’s seen more success in its short lifespan in the OCG than Dark Magician and Red-Eyes combined, probably in the TCG and OCG combined too.
Probably because Gem-knight and Predaplant aren't half bad. They have solid engines and good boss monsters. Performage is too small an archetype to be seen as anything more than engine pieces.
Besides. G-K toolbox, while old, can still pull in at locals. While the FTK/OTK can happen easier if Master Diamond is at 2. Quite clowning around or I'll anacondya.
@@lord-of-roses6647 i see some people pull predaplant deck really well as their fusion boss monster is so good as really easy to summon,as Scorpio and cobra combo still good even in today meta deck because it give up a fusion card so easily to make combo games as their strongest boss monster,venom dragon as their banned card ssv dragon (because nightgale) so broken
You might have missed a couple off the top of my head. The big one being genex undine which was a key player in water synchro (sending fishborg blaster) and then later in mermail and nekroz? Its partner (genex controller) was also the 'original' Garnet. Neo-spacian grand mole. Used to see play in the side of pretty much every deck as a generic answer to synchro et al.
I agree! Grand Mole probably doesn't see enough play on its own anymore to warrant a spot, but Genex as an archetype is such garbage with 1 or 2 standouts. Now that you mention Fishborg blaster, would Fishborg itself technically be an archetype?
@@kimyona9746 dude just run Onomatiopaira Onomatopick Gagaga magician which can make its level 6 and Onomatopick which lets you make all levels of monsters you control the same as a monster you control.
Gogogos are a fine rank 4 toolbox. The Gagaga xyz monsters don’t fit the archetype at all. Gogogo are a bit slow out of the gate, but once they get going they can be competitive. And their xyz monster helps out by recycling the key card Gogogo Giant.

Lavalval Chain was originally designed to be used in Lavalval and Gishki decks, not only the first. So, it is a double support card that was better outside its archetypes.
but at the rate the game is going to far, it's very, very unlikely that Lavalval Chain will ever come off the ban list....most likely the only way he's ever going to come off is if his effect get's nerfed (which they could very well make it a hard "Once per duel" effect if they needed too...ik that sounds like overkill but that's just an example)
It isn't that amazing, but even with dark being one of (if not the) most popular attributes, catastor still has plenty of removal potential. It's basically a worse Shaddol Construct, since it doesn't hit all special summoned monsters and is smaller/arguably a little harder to summon.
ayo i friggin love winged dragon of ra it looks sick and can get some real high damage pretty quick and it can be a pain in the butt to remove not to mention you can regain the lost life points if played correctly
Honorable mentions to Naturia Beast, Barkion, and Exterio, which have seen pretty consistent play in any Earth focused deck that can reliably spam them out. And like Ice Barriers, Naturia haven't really done anything competitively, and tend to struggle to get out their own extra deck monsters (though they can still summon them waaaaay better than the Ice Barriers can get out their dragons).
I would like to add that raidraptors at the moment are bloody terrifying to go against. Though they don't usually end on ultimate falcon. Their current end board that can play around 1-2 negates to get to it is simorgh link 3, cyber dragon infinity, number 39: utopia and barrier statue of stormwinds. Raidraptors before were a joke before duel overload. Duel overload was a powerful set for raidraptors and I honestly expect them to be at least tier 2 this format.
The ice barrier synchro monsters being so good makes sense with the dual terminal lore of them being locked away for being so powerful and getting released multiple times to fight more world ending threats.
I actually have all 4 ice barrier monsters because I wanted to learn how to play since it always seemed fun so I bought the deck at Walmart but did not know it was that good at least the synchro
Yeah, the reason the Gagagas worked the way they did was so that Yuma could use all the Numbers if he had to in what was otherwise just Utopia Turbo. Funny story: there are circumstances where you CAN profitably use the monster you searched with Isolde. The most common is probably Pendulums, as only their monster effects are prevented so activating it as a spell basically removes the drawback. Imagine summoning 2 Trishulas and then overlaying into Enterblathnir (which is flavorfully connected to the Mecha Phantom Beasts who could earn an honorable mention on this list with Auroradon much like Crystron kinda did when you showed Halq at the start, but isn't actually part of the archetype). That's 3 handrips and Virtual World could probably do it if you were allowed to run it in multiples. That said, the Ice Barrier tribe was actually built around keeping its dragons imprisoned so of course it can't actually summon them. (It's a Duel Terminal archetype, putting lore above sanity is on-brand given Flamvell Magician.)
Definitely make a part 2 of this Other cards that could make the list: Gamaciel for Kaijus, Rhongomyniad for Heroic Champions, Utopia Lightning for Utopia, Kirin for Majespecters, Monkeyboard for Performapals, Draccossack for Mecha Phantom Beast, Ptolemaeus for Tellarknights and Terrortop/Taketomborg for Speedroids
I agree with most of these, but I can’t really agree with Terrortop and Taketomborg. In my opinion, the simple fact alone that these two cards in a single archetype are useful together means you can’t put either of them on a list like this. Something similar also applies for Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio and Darlingtonia Cobra, the other Predaplant cards in the archetype(except maybe the Link monster) aren’t the best, but the mere fact that two of these cards are great together and see play in other decks together would prevent either of them from going on this kind of list. If you disagree, that’s fine, deckbuilding itself in YuGiOh is always up to personal preference anyway, so why should our opinions on a similar topic be the exact same? Have a nice day!
@@M3G4T3RR4 I mentioned the speedroids because I remember when I personally built a full speedroid deck and those 2 cards were so good, I tried them out in a monarch deck and they had much more utility and fulfilled potential than for their synchro summoning archetype. The stats don't lie either, the engine was insane, much better than the rest of the archetype cards, which were subpar minus the synchros. But the predaplant cards are also good examples too
I think the "Gagaga" archetype is perfect for my Level Tyrant strategy. I built a deck for Total Defense Shogun that revolved around the idea of changing battle position for effect. I included the two Level Limit cards to force L1-L3 monsters into AP and L4-L12 monsters into DP. For bonus effect, I included Dream Clown and Crass Clown so that I could change their position every turn to activate their effects. I even had Copycat and Relinquished to copy/absorb high power enemy monsters. Because they're L1, they're forced into AP with a high damage output. It was a nice little idea that was completely outside-the-box.
Do a top 10 cards that have been on the banlist due to other cards. like A assault core getting limited because of firewall i'm interested in knowing which cards that are fair or somehow couldn't be abused until something unfair showed up i know spyral master plan is now banned specifically because magicians soul making it consistent to place it in the gy. i don't know about other cards and it will be nice to find out more about them.
I played dark world competitively when trishula dropped. I learned early on just how broken it was with a couple of judge rulings on the card versus the interactions of my dark world monsters, which at the time they were still a lot of people who didn't understand how they worked. But it was pretty messed up when I learned that I literally could not change anything to the effect of trishula. I compensated by doing my best to Target tuners as they hit the field and annihilate them before they could get a chance to synchro summon. The problem with that is it did expend my resources the same as if I would let trishula hit the field, although this would be over several turns rather than one turn. No matter what you did, you would constantly be fighting trishula and it's minus effects one way or another. Skill drain and necro valley helps, but as we all know, everybody runs mystical space typhoon work cards similar. There were only so many ways me as a dark world player could combat any deck that ranchula, and just about every single way involved putting cards into the deck that did not contribute to its synergy. This basically made my check really janky to play and my usual techs were nearly unusable. I started having to find other combos to play to see if I could find something that would contribute to the synergy lost by the cards I needed to answer a single card. This is the reason why I believe trishula was ultimately banned. It's effect was too easy to abuse and with it in the format, literally every single deck had to change that wasn't a top-tier deck to counter it. Even if they erad it so its effect says only once return, people would still find a way to abuse it. Not only would they be summoning it in their turn, but they would find ways to summon it in their opponent's turn. That makes literally every single turn for you and them a -3 to you while they plus off cards like hyperlibrarian and formula synchron repeatedly
Ra Sphere mode is a reference to Mai screwing herself by tributing her harpie sisters for Ra, who only came out as ball with 0 ATK/0 DEF until Yami Marik reclaimed him, Marik probably really enjoys the trollish effects of this card

Winged Words is a three mana card that costs one less if you have a creature with flying and the effect is to draw two. Fleeting Distraction target creature gets -1/-0 until turn end and draw one card Unsummon is literally just compulse. Befuddle target creature gets -4/-0 until the turn end and draw a card Cloudkin Seer is a three mana card which draws a card on summon The list goes on and on, but those are just the ones I have by my side. The only thing keeping them in check is the mana cost, which you can at best increase your mana cap by one each turn. What I love the most is they have their own memes, we have firewall pass and they have island go

You forgot an extra effect that Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon has. If your opponent has no face-up monsters on their field, inflict 1000 points of damage to them at the end of each turn.
It's a shame that Raidraptors fell short as an archetype because Ultimate Falcon actually has pretty good effects if brought out properly

I only have budget decks, and one of them (and the second deck i made) was Phantasm spiral. In a little tournament i was playing against a dude with the field spell that summon tokens on your side and reduce your monsters atk by half (i don't remember the card), and he manages to summon the xyz raidraptor
Now, i had my field full of those anoying tokens, but had the Phantasm spiral field spell, if you know about the arquetype you know that drawing into Phantasm spiral dragon is a dead card in your hand, but i realize something, not only in my hand i draw the Phantasm spiral dragon, but also in my hand i had "together we stand"
Sooooo i did something i never expected to do in my life, tribute summon Phantasm spiral with 2 of those tokens, then with the field spell Pacifis i added to my hand Phantasm spiral grip (the one thar adds you 500 atk), then i equip both p.s. grip and togheter we stand to my dragon, and thanks to the tokens, my dragon surpased the attack of the raidraptor and i managed to kill it, not only that but manage to win the round :D

I think I mentioned it before awhile ago but a “Top 10 Cards That Need an Errata” and the idea can be used twice like an errata for bad cards to make them good and an errata to nerf “broken” cards.

When the Ice Barriers were released I loved using them so much. The archetype is pretty bad if used on its own, but that's why you would have lots of supports to help it out.
Then when I realized that the Synchros made for this deck got banned because they were able to be used and abused in other archetypes it made my heart hurt. :(
I love the Ice elemental so I wanted to make a deck specifically based around it, yet Ice counters are garbage and Ice Barriers (at the time) were the only other option for me.
Good news, Ice Barrier will get a structure deck which hopefully makes them playable.
I can remember a time back in the late 2000's when Brionac was an extremely popular card, and Trishula had already been banned, and they were hot trade items out of packs; until this video, over a decade after that craze, I didn't even know there was such an archetype as "Ice Barrier".
There's a part of me that's kind of surprised Harpie's Feather Duster didn't make the list. I mean, you could argue it's part of the "Harpie Lady" archetype, except that instead of having anything to to with the Harpie Ladies, it's just a backrow Raigeki, which is pretty damn good, to the point that it is currently limited to 1 to this day.
Harpies do be pretty lit as an archetype back in the ol'days tho.

A bit sad that the Naturia extradeck isnt here since all of them are really powerful - Beast and Exterio being by far some of the best Negation the game has to offer while technically being in a super bad archetypes.
I actually thought about Naturia, since they have problems similar to Ice Barriers, but I think their main deck monsters are just slightly good enough to where they wouldn't be a high contender. They do revolve around their annoying negation methods which can actually be effective if they establish a decent board. They can also summon and technically use all their extra deck monsters, which is more than can be said for some on the list.
Don't have to worry about this if you play a Pyro type deck...

Galaxies are nice, but Dark Matter was LEAGUES better than its archetype.
Gagaga Cowboy primary usage is the effect damage like you mentioned in the video, but I believe it was, and still is prominent today not because of the effect damage finishing an opponent off but because if your opponent has less life points than you when time runs out at a tournament, you win the duel. So Gagaga Cowboy was the 'make it or break it' for a lot of duels simply due to time; a quick and easy 800 burn to get the edge in lifepoints, and then winning by time since your lifepoints are slightly higher than your opponents.

Coming back this video so long after it came out, it is interesting how Gagaga Cowboy had such an impact in the TCG/OCG whereas Gagaga Samurai had a smaller but still notable impact in Duel Links. Since there is no Main Phase two for Cowboy to work with and his effect damage got cut in half, it makes sense that Gagaga Cowboy didn't see major play in Duel Links, but I wasn't expecting Gagaga Samurai to be used as much as it has been

Probably because Gem-knight and Predaplant aren't half bad. They have solid engines and good boss monsters. Performage is too small an archetype to be seen as anything more than engine pieces.

@@kimyona9746 dude just run Onomatiopaira Onomatopick Gagaga magician which can make its level 6 and Onomatopick which lets you make all levels of monsters you control the same as a monster you control.
Gogogos are a fine rank 4 toolbox. The Gagaga xyz monsters don’t fit the archetype at all. Gogogo are a bit slow out of the gate, but once they get going they can be competitive. And their xyz monster helps out by recycling the key card Gogogo Giant.

Lavalval Chain was originally designed to be used in Lavalval and Gishki decks, not only the first. So, it is a double support card that was better outside its archetypes.
but at the rate the game is going to far, it's very, very unlikely that Lavalval Chain will ever come off the ban list....most likely the only way he's ever going to come off is if his effect get's nerfed (which they could very well make it a hard "Once per duel" effect if they needed too...ik that sounds like overkill but that's just an example)

It isn't that amazing, but even with dark being one of (if not the) most popular attributes, catastor still has plenty of removal potential. It's basically a worse Shaddol Construct, since it doesn't hit all special summoned monsters and is smaller/arguably a little harder to summon.
ayo i friggin love winged dragon of ra it looks sick and can get some real high damage pretty quick and it can be a pain in the butt to remove not to mention you can regain the lost life points if played correctly
Honorable mentions to Naturia Beast, Barkion, and Exterio, which have seen pretty consistent play in any Earth focused deck that can reliably spam them out. And like Ice Barriers, Naturia haven't really done anything competitively, and tend to struggle to get out their own extra deck monsters (though they can still summon them waaaaay better than the Ice Barriers can get out their dragons).

I would like to add that raidraptors at the moment are bloody terrifying to go against. Though they don't usually end on ultimate falcon.
Their current end board that can play around 1-2 negates to get to it is simorgh link 3, cyber dragon infinity, number 39: utopia and barrier statue of stormwinds. Raidraptors before were a joke before duel overload. Duel overload was a powerful set for raidraptors and I honestly expect them to be at least tier 2 this format.
The ice barrier synchro monsters being so good makes sense with the dual terminal lore of them being locked away for being so powerful and getting released multiple times to fight more world ending threats.

Yeah, the reason the Gagagas worked the way they did was so that Yuma could use all the Numbers if he had to in what was otherwise just Utopia Turbo.
Funny story: there are circumstances where you CAN profitably use the monster you searched with Isolde. The most common is probably Pendulums, as only their monster effects are prevented so activating it as a spell basically removes the drawback.
Imagine summoning 2 Trishulas and then overlaying into Enterblathnir (which is flavorfully connected to the Mecha Phantom Beasts who could earn an honorable mention on this list with Auroradon much like Crystron kinda did when you showed Halq at the start, but isn't actually part of the archetype). That's 3 handrips and Virtual World could probably do it if you were allowed to run it in multiples. That said, the Ice Barrier tribe was actually built around keeping its dragons imprisoned so of course it can't actually summon them. (It's a Duel Terminal archetype, putting lore above sanity is on-brand given Flamvell Magician.)
Just a note: Lavalval Chain is also related to the Gishki Archetype, which is why it's sea serpent instead of pyro. Duel Terminal Lore.
Making it (as far as I'm aware) the only monster in the game with that combination

I agree with most of these, but I can’t really agree with Terrortop and Taketomborg. In my opinion, the simple fact alone that these two cards in a single archetype are useful together means you can’t put either of them on a list like this. Something similar also applies for Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio and Darlingtonia Cobra, the other Predaplant cards in the archetype(except maybe the Link monster) aren’t the best, but the mere fact that two of these cards are great together and see play in other decks together would prevent either of them from going on this kind of list. If you disagree, that’s fine, deckbuilding itself in YuGiOh is always up to personal preference anyway, so why should our opinions on a similar topic be the exact same? Have a nice day!
@@M3G4T3RR4 I mentioned the speedroids because I remember when I personally built a full speedroid deck and those 2 cards were so good, I tried them out in a monarch deck and they had much more utility and fulfilled potential than for their synchro summoning archetype. The stats don't lie either, the engine was insane, much better than the rest of the archetype cards, which were subpar minus the synchros. But the predaplant cards are also good examples too
I guess now Magician's Souls could be changed for Dragun of Red-Eyes, which works for two archetypes.

I think the "Gagaga" archetype is perfect for my Level Tyrant strategy. I built a deck for Total Defense Shogun that revolved around the idea of changing battle position for effect. I included the two Level Limit cards to force L1-L3 monsters into AP and L4-L12 monsters into DP. For bonus effect, I included Dream Clown and Crass Clown so that I could change their position every turn to activate their effects. I even had Copycat and Relinquished to copy/absorb high power enemy monsters. Because they're L1, they're forced into AP with a high damage output. It was a nice little idea that was completely outside-the-box.

I played dark world competitively when trishula dropped. I learned early on just how broken it was with a couple of judge rulings on the card versus the interactions of my dark world monsters, which at the time they were still a lot of people who didn't understand how they worked. But it was pretty messed up when I learned that I literally could not change anything to the effect of trishula. I compensated by doing my best to Target tuners as they hit the field and annihilate them before they could get a chance to synchro summon. The problem with that is it did expend my resources the same as if I would let trishula hit the field, although this would be over several turns rather than one turn. No matter what you did, you would constantly be fighting trishula and it's minus effects one way or another. Skill drain and necro valley helps, but as we all know, everybody runs mystical space typhoon work cards similar. There were only so many ways me as a dark world player could combat any deck that ranchula, and just about every single way involved putting cards into the deck that did not contribute to its synergy. This basically made my check really janky to play and my usual techs were nearly unusable. I started having to find other combos to play to see if I could find something that would contribute to the synergy lost by the cards I needed to answer a single card. This is the reason why I believe trishula was ultimately banned. It's effect was too easy to abuse and with it in the format, literally every single deck had to change that wasn't a top-tier deck to counter it. Even if they erad it so its effect says only once return, people would still find a way to abuse it. Not only would they be summoning it in their turn, but they would find ways to summon it in their opponent's turn. That makes literally every single turn for you and them a -3 to you while they plus off cards like hyperlibrarian and formula synchron repeatedly

Befuddle target creature gets -4/-0 until the turn end and draw a card
Cloudkin Seer is a three mana card which draws a card on summon
The list goes on and on, but those are just the ones I have by my side. The only thing keeping them in check is the mana cost, which you can at best increase your mana cap by one each turn. What I love the most is they have their own memes, we have firewall pass and they have island go
