Hi Yuki! Thanks so much for the app recommendation! Glad you found it helpful🌈Can’t take any credit for the amazing App, I can only thank the tech savvy and language loving people who brought this to life🎉👏
That's really cool. I wish there was something like that for Cantonese... Recently moved to Hong Kong and finding materials and good apps for learning is so difficult.
I'm actually quite keen on doing something about this - people wanting to learn my language and struggling to find a way in? This can't continue! Only if you feel comfortable, and just as part of my little research, I'd love to have a short, casual conversation about your thoughts on learning Cantonese. You can drop me a line at yukichiu.contact@gmail.com so that we can connect🙌
This is the reason why I like Migaku and spent some time with it during summer! It was soo convenient and helpful to generate a script of everything said from e.g. an anime episode on Netflix, where I could hover over words to read their meaning (which also paused the episode) and even add them to a list of vocabulary to practice on if needed! Really cool and useful stuff :)) As for actually _learning_ Japanese (grammar points and sentence building etc., I mean), my absolute favorite is the *Bunpo* app! Though I do admit being a tad biased since I actually know the guy who made it, having met him on my travels in Japan and becoming friends ^^ But nevertheless, it's an amazing app for actually getting into the language, even for someone like me who already knew the basics when I started using it! :D
@@japanesegrind7799 I for one wouldn’t have learned much about grammar points and sentence building if I had only kept watching anime and listening to Japanese, without a good understanding of the language! 😋
@@Ayelet.M Good resources tend to cost money 😛 Totally worth it imo! Just like how it was worth buying the Genki 1 textbook and workbook when I first started out ^^
Hey! I'm new to your channel, thanks for letting us know about this app, it seems amazing! Especially the transcription :). one thing - I think there's no need to be afraid whether you understand everything or not. More than that - I think that allowing yourself to consume content subconsciously, without overanalyzing, is actually beneficial. Regards.
That’s a really good point💪I don’t really stress about understanding everything, but it’s just nice to have the option to zoom in on the bits I’m curious about🤓
On android you can double tap the left side of the video to rewind 10 seconds. I guess it's the same on the iphone. If you are on a computer you can rewind 5 seconds on youtube with pressing the left arrow.
FYI you only get 30 minutes free and then it is $60 a year. I would love to see an ad supported free version with maybe less features or a daily cap on how many minutes it would transcrbe. With all the free language learning tools out there I have a hard time paying for apps and when I do pay they are never subscriptions. There are a few sentence analyzers out there for Japanese that are completely free and poscasts that publish their transcripts for free. So while it isn't as easy there are ways to get the benifits of this app without the cost. However, I understand paying money to be able to do everything with 1 tool so you can just study rather than hunting down several different tools.
Totally fair point. Being time-poor I'm firmly in the paying a bit for convenience camp, but I understand that the math may work out differently for everyone.
🙌Hope this helps! I do find that having a lot of audio input helps me get used to the flow of the language and know what a natural sentence sounds like.
Thank you Yuki! I tried the app and it’s good but needs more improvement in translating the right kanji. For example the right sentence should be: 父が他界し肉親は兄だけになった。 But it translated to 父が高いし肉親は兄だけになった
It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s useable🤣I find that I pay even more attention when the transcription/ translation is off to try to understand what’s being said
This looks great...if you're already JLPT N3+....I looked at this as someone just starting out and....hell no. Way too much. It's not teaching you words, it's just showing just translations assuming you can fully read Japanese and already essentially know the words.
I'm definitely not at N3+ (and have no plans to take JLPT so far)😂 I still find value in picking up words and expressions here and there in a more natural context, but do what works best for you!
Definitely not the best way of _starting out_ no, but once you're pass N5 and doing N4, then it could really be a valuable tool! Though I think I prefer Migaku or Lingq myself, because then I also get the visual feedback - making it even easier to follow along in the script, since I can understand the context simply by _seeing_ what's happening! :)
Wow we are on similar journey, I did Pimsleur and have also been searching for my next steps and came across Trenton and other immersion learning channels. I listen to podcasts like Miku real Japanese but there is a lot I don't understand. I am trying the Irodori textbook right now, and since that is free I am trying to find a good audio resource that I am willing to pay for. I will try this out!
I also did Pimsleur first! 🙌 My next step from there was the Genki 1 textbook + workbook, and then I went to a language school in Kyoto for 6 months, where they were using Minna no Nihongo :D Totally recommend the Migaku website to use as a supplement for watching anime and Japanese movies etc. and being able to read transcripts of whatever it is that you're watching, just like shown here in the video! ^^
Thanks Yuki! This is such a great resource. I've also struggled with textbooks. This looks like the right kind of tool to help with that. Are you exploring any reading input methods like Tadoku?
Glad it was helpful! I’m actually not doing anything reading or writing related at the moment and I’m solely focusing on audio input for this next block 🙌 do you recommend this resource you’ve mentioned?
@@YukiChiu852 Tadoku is an approach that focuses on getting huge amounts of written input its written 多読 (tadoku) which basically means much-reading. Great video! The app could really help making input-heavy learning on content you actually like a lot less daunting. Just personally, I usually caution against completely buying into Input Theory, since it's often misrepresented on Social Media and leans on assumptions that are somewhat controversial in linguistics. That can lead to new learners misunderstanding it and getting demotivated, sadly. Trenton does go into a bit more detail, but I think he still leans a bit too heavily into an idealized version of Krashen's theory. ("Languagejones" has a great video on that topic, which I highly recommend.) Anyway, I think though that the app serves as a great bridge for newer learners. Listening to authentic native language content about something you like while getting a bit of clarification on structure is likely a great benefit. As I said, great video! It's nice that you decide to share tips with fellow language addicts, and I appreciate that you tend to offer concrete steps at the end of your videos. Positive energy all around!

I personally really enjoy the wide variety of topics they cover. They also have very pleasant voices.
Thank your for the video covering this app. I hope you have continued success using it, and I will definitely try it out. I do have a slightly unrelated question. When reading Japanese text, do you ever experience interference from already knowing Chinese? In other words, as I read a Japanese sentence I sometimes need to fight the instinct to read the kanji in Chinese.
Always. In a relaxed state I’d almost certainly read Kanji the Chinese way. It sounds really funny btw mixing hiragana, katakana and Kanji with Chinese pronunciation🤣 I guess it’s a small inconvenience since I also have the privilege of already recognising most kanjis and can write them
@YukiChiu852 you showing the app in the thumbnail is what made me click :) at first when i saw the title i thought it would be an app I've already used since I've been through so many or an advertisement but seeing the app in the thumbnail got me to click, thank you btw gave you a sub

You can set the target language to Korean (and a handful of other languages) on the App! I do not know any Korean so I don't know how well that works, but maybe you can give it a try 🙌
Hey im currently doing the Pimsleur audios im on Unit 2! Do you recommend going through the whole thing? Do you feel like you actually learned something from doing the whole thing? Currently the lessons have been fun so far
I do recommend following through with it. The entire Japanese course is of very high quality. Above all else I think keeping that 30 minutes per day structure for 5 months gives you a great foundation - Pimsleur helps build confidence engaging in real life conversations like no other App. I might recommend incorporating other resources towards the later units, since you may want to start learning vocabulary on topics other than the ones presented to you on Pimsleur.
Apparently you can select other target languages on the App, which include Chinese, German, French, Italian, Korean and Spanish. I have not tried out other languages though as I’m just learning Japanese at the moment, but if your target language is on the list I think it’s worth a try!
Maybe! I checked out LingQ briefly but maybe I was missing something, it did not immediately click how it was supposed to work, so I didn’t end up using it.
You can turn up the the volume on most devices. On phones there are usually buttons on the left or right side that you can change it, and on computers there are shortcuts for it that depend on your os and there's also usually a volume or media icon in the top or bottom bar that you can click to open volume control.
I’ve not tried Migaku before! I had a quick look, it seems that Migaku is a Chrome extension, whereas Miraa is an App that works outside of a browser. Migaku seems to focus more on video and text content, whereas Miraa focuses more on podcasts and audio content.
@YukiChiu852 es bueno escuchar eso. Por cierto, disculpa que te escriba en español, pero mi inglés no es muy bueno y además creo que también UA-cam te permite a tí traducir fácilmente lo que estoy escribiendo. Por cierto, me gustó el video de vocabulario cantonés.
No worries at all! Hope you don't mind me replying in English as my Spanish isn't great...Thank you for your support, I may make more videos about Cantonese ^^
@@YukiChiu852 No hay problema, de hecho, es muy fácil traducir lo que escribes porque aquí mismo en UA-cam te permite hacerlo, no sé si también puedes hacer eso en UA-cam, pero si no es así, dime y trataré de usar traductor.
Sadly the transcript function is restricted to 5 min as a free user. I was under the impression i could use it fully for free. Sadly not of much use then without paying
Great tip! As someone at an intermediate level, the subscription seems a bit pricey to listen to all my Japanese content. It could be more worthwhile for more challenging subjects or podcasts, while using a regular podcast app for easier ones. Another tip: if your pronunciation is good enough, try setting Siri to Japanese and asking it what a word means in English.
I have been studying Japanese in a more classical way: Tobira textbook and workbooks, and an Italki Japanese tutor. This app is piquing my interest…. Wonder if it would be a good supplement to what I am doing..???
If you’d like to incorporate natural sounding audio input into your routine I think it’s a great tool! I find that listening to native Japanese speakers speak naturally (as opposed to for teaching) helps me get a good feel for what the language should sound like 🙌might be a good supplement to what you’re doing if you have bandwidth to do more!
I haven't used yomu yomu but quickly checked it - it only has some beginner stories right? If that is indeed the app you mean - you really can't compare it with Miraa. The way Miraa transcribes any podcast and the explanations the AI gives for any sentence is really fantastic.
@MrEDET For learning Japanese, I think the beginner and intermediate text will be better than complex one. We need to surround ourself with contents that matches our level. Because the source of Miraa is from internet, so it has random level. Not suitable for learning.
@@temanangka3820 I fully agree, but as I said - you can't compare these apps. Yomu is for reading beginner books, this app is AI generated transcripts for podcasts and videos. There are a lot of beginner podcasts too where everything is spoken slowly so I would even recommend it for beginners. Never too soon to start with listening practice :)
No🙌 If one day someone wants to sponsor this tiny UA-camr (which will be a milestone btw), (a) I’ll never recommend anything I don’t love myself, and (b) I’ll always mention if it is sponsored!

Always. In a relaxed state I’d almost certainly read Kanji the Chinese way. It sounds really funny btw mixing hiragana, katakana and Kanji with Chinese pronunciation🤣 I guess it’s a small inconvenience since I also have the privilege of already recognising most kanjis and can write them
omg thank you😭😭😭😭😭😭
i almost didn't click this vid, I'm glad i did ありがとう
Thanks for giving this video a chance🌈🌈I’ll learn to make better thumbnails
@YukiChiu852 you showing the app in the thumbnail is what made me click :) at first when i saw the title i thought it would be an app I've already used since I've been through so many or an advertisement but seeing the app in the thumbnail got me to click, thank you btw gave you a sub
どうもありがとう🙌実用的な情報ですね
Nothing beats Anki
I have so far not been able to stick with any flashcards but I admire people who do them religiously!
flashcards are pointless
@@MintDecavitator sure, good luck with your Japanese
Does it have pitch accent and also is it free, or is it one of those apps where they give you crumbs, if you dont pay for full content ?
It doesn’t show pitch accent I’m afraid. And the free version is really just a tester, you do need a subscription to use it regularly. There are a lot of free resources and Apps of course, and some people have commented that you can get similar functionality using or combining some free tools, so do what works for you🙌
I like your microphone
Really!! Someone commented that I look weird holding it haha😂
Thanks Yuki
Thank you and the developer and the amazing creators that make this possible🙌🙌
What podcasts do you recommend?
These are the ones I'm listening to:
1) YUYUの日本語Podcast @yuyunihongopodcast
2) あかね的日本語教室 @Akane-JapaneseClass
3) The Bite size Japanese Podcast @the_bitesize_japanese_podcast
They are all hugely popular and need no introduction! I personally really enjoy the wide varieties of topics they cover. They also have very pleasant voices.
Looks cool. But I don’t do subscription stuff at all. I’ll pay for a lifetime access, but I will not do subscription.
I understand🙌Many services are now subscription based and it can be kinda annoying
Thanks
Thank you too🙌
Nice
Thank you🌈🌈
I need one to learn Korean tho
You can set the target language to Korean (and a handful of other languages) on the App! I do not know any Korean so I don't know how well that works, but maybe you can give it a try 🙌
@@YukiChiu852 thanks a lot for you humber reply!!
Sucks it only takes Apple links...
Hello, is it only for learning Japanese? No other languages? Thank you
Apparently you can select other target languages on the App, which include Chinese, German, French, Italian, Korean and Spanish. I have not tried out other languages though as I’m just learning Japanese at the moment, but if your target language is on the list I think it’s worth a try!
@ oohh okay, thank you!
Mira is just like LingQ
Maybe! I checked out LingQ briefly but maybe I was missing something, it did not immediately click how it was supposed to work, so I didn’t end up using it.
its like lingq
I can't hear you
You can turn up the the volume on most devices. On phones there are usually buttons on the left or right side that you can change it, and on computers there are shortcuts for it that depend on your os and there's also usually a volume or media icon in the top or bottom bar that you can click to open volume control.
Might be something with my audio😂 Will try to improve next time. Obviously adjusting the volume on your device will help too!
How does it compare to Migaku?
I’ve not tried Migaku before! I had a quick look, it seems that Migaku is a Chrome extension, whereas Miraa is an App that works outside of a browser. Migaku seems to focus more on video and text content, whereas Miraa focuses more on podcasts and audio content.
Thank you very much:)
Have you used it with UA-cam videos?
Yes, it works amazing too! There’ll be a mini screen at the top playing the UA-cam video while the transcript scrolls at the bottom.
Hola Yuki. Solo vine a saludarte. 😊 ¿Cómo estás? ¿Cómo te va en el trabajo?
I'm doing well thanks! Work has been really busy but I'm trying my best to stay afloat! 🌈🙌
@YukiChiu852 es bueno escuchar eso. Por cierto, disculpa que te escriba en español, pero mi inglés no es muy bueno y además creo que también UA-cam te permite a tí traducir fácilmente lo que estoy escribiendo. Por cierto, me gustó el video de vocabulario cantonés.
No worries at all! Hope you don't mind me replying in English as my Spanish isn't great...Thank you for your support, I may make more videos about Cantonese ^^
@@YukiChiu852 No hay problema, de hecho, es muy fácil traducir lo que escribes porque aquí mismo en UA-cam te permite hacerlo, no sé si también puedes hacer eso en UA-cam, pero si no es así, dime y trataré de usar traductor.
Unfortunately this app doesnt work on my phone 😔😔😔
That sucks🥲What’s the issue?
@YukiChiu852 im not sure, when i looked it up on the play store it said "This app won't work on your device"
Sadly the transcript function is restricted to 5 min as a free user. I was under the impression i could use it fully for free. Sadly not of much use then without paying
Sorry if I didn’t make it clear🫣if you’re not minded to pay for an App there are still tons of free resources🙌
Is it subscription based or a one time payment?
@MintIceCreamEnjoyer it's a subscription and even then you're restricted to a certain hour/month limit (i think 30h/month)
Is it possible to turn off the romanji
Yes, you can turn it off in the Settings. You can also turn on/off other features (translation, colours, furigana, etc,)
axtongue on steroids
I’ve not come across Axtongue before, it looks really cool🙌
Oh it’s AI. Not interested then
That’s okay, you do you🙌
I have been studying Japanese in a more classical way: Tobira textbook and workbooks, and an Italki Japanese tutor.
Not better than Yomu Yomu
I haven't used yomu yomu but quickly checked it - it only has some beginner stories right? If that is indeed the app you mean - you really can't compare it with Miraa. The way Miraa transcribes any podcast and the explanations the AI gives for any sentence is really fantastic.
@MrEDET
For learning Japanese, I think the beginner and intermediate text will be better than complex one.
I've not come across this App you've mentioned, may check it out later!
The great economy???? Lmfao 😂. Thats insulting
Creator economy I said😂
Is this video sponsored at all?
No🙌 If one day someone wants to sponsor this tiny UA-camr (which will be a milestone btw), (a) I’ll never recommend anything I don’t love myself, and (b) I’ll always mention if it is sponsored!
are u american mix korean perhaps?
Holy Mother of God! If this is as good as it looks, Christ Almighty…
Ikr it’s mind blowing🤯Hope it helps you just as much🌈🌈
