I started to get into K-pop and asian dramas, probably like 2years ago and so, I wanted to start to learn Korean, so I can start to have some understanding and I like watching your channel and your interaction with native speakers in all languages. I'm trying not to be shy with even speaking and went to a local beauty supply store run by Koreans and tried my very, very basic intro convo and the lady just made such a big deal, 😆, telling everyone in the store, I knew Korean 😂, I'm not fluent, but she understood, and I was nervous, shy and proud at the same time, by the compliments and she couldn't get over my native sounding pronunciation😅 so you definitely inspire me✊🏾.
The look on the face of the Vietnamese vendor when you started speaking Vietnamese to him was priceless. It was also funny when you started speaking Mandarin, Korean and Japanese at the restaurant and almost shocked the people you were sitting with.
He assumed she knew, As he said. But then to find out she's fluent took it to a whole new level. To speak four languages fluently with ease and seamlessly made her friend's give her respect they wouldn't have. Even with a Japanese husband.
It’s my First time watching your videos, and this goes to show exactly how important it is for people to speak multiple languages. The human interactions you have are amazing! Keep making videos. They’re very wholesome. Also, I thought you were Russian too. I was wrong. Whoops! Lol 😆 🇷🇺
I just love 🥰watching your videos--it's so awesome to see how everyone interacts with one another when they find out you know their language! Big smiles on their faces! It also inspires me to continue learning all the languages I've taken up. I'll check out Pimsleur as soon as I can afford to do so.
Thank you so much Jeannette! I was using Pimsleur Japanese back when I was a student and found it more affordable to buy the lessons 5 at a time instead of all at once.
I love this because I can relate. My son like you speaks several languages. He loves languages. We went to a convention and he was able to translate for us in Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Portuguese, and German. And I remember when people heard him, they were very shocked because one he’s a foreigner and two he doesn’t have an accent when he speaks. Right now he’s learning Russian and Arabic too. I am so proud of people like you and him that really take the time to learn not just the language, but the culture of people.
First I am subscribed my absolute favorite part of your videos is how grateful thankful and kind the people are when they hear you speaking their native language. And not only just speaking it but speaking it fluently. Makes me smile everytime I watch your videos. And I watch all your videos till the end.
That lady was truly shocked at your language skills. You really are incredible to listen to. Actually you amaze me with how you interact with people, and you’re super polite too. ❤
I’m a long-time subscriber and have the 🔔 turned on. Love, love your channel! I can’t believe that so many people don’t watch your videos to the end. I don’t WANT them to end. 😘
I'm seriously impressed by anyone who can speak multiple languages, especially one from a language family distinct from their native tongue. As to why so many people don't watch her videos to the end, how many times can you watch the same content? Every video that shows shocked reactions from locals when the UA-camr unexpectedly speaks a language far removed from their own is almost identical. It's not just Oriental Pearl's content either. There are many polyglot channels with a similar "white person speaks the local language and people are shocked" theme. I'd be more interested in seeing her a) show her day to day as a foreigner who is fluent in East Asian languages b) teaching people in these countries English given she can "explain" in their own language, or c) showing how she starts learning a language from scratch.
A lot of people aren't subscribed to UA-cam channels because you don't really need to. UA-cam shows you what they want you to see. I'm subscribed to many channels that I never get notified of because I haven't watched them in a while, and I get notifications (or my feed is populated with) channels I'm not subscribed to, but have recently watched a video from, so, UA-cam pays more attention to what you're doing now rather than what you clicked 'subscribe' to. In your case though, I am subbed..
UA-cam using a tracking algorithm based on what you have watched to recommend viewers videos. 1 of the purposes is to tailormade ads for the viewers. It's all business.
@@anadd6195 Not really, the subscribtion amount is pretty much meaningless, take shorts for example, if you send the clips to your subscribers, you get no outward reach, but if you just massbroadcast them your subscribers may never see them... UA-cam's content is double edged like that. Those channels that show up in your shorts feed, never want you to subscribe because then you don't see those shorts. Unless you actively go to their channel to look at the shorts. UA-cam is a shithole when it comes to caring for their creators.
As always I enjoy your video's for the language interactions primarily, but a very close second is the very human interactions you have with people. Some very brief and some that turn into much more involved conversations. The fact you can do this makes these interactions more impactful not only for you, but for the people whom are happy to learn that a foreign person was willing to take the time to learn their language. Most are happy that visible foreign looking people take the time to learn polite tourist phrases, but when they can interact in their own language their comfort level to interact becomes obvious. Why don't people subscribe? How is it possible to not watch each entire video from start to finish. Anming 7 is an amazing creator of unique content. Her and this channel deserve much more support. I want the longer more involved videos to happen regularly and so should you.
I appreciate you making these videos because I am very interested in languages but have only scratched the surface on a few and I am not fluent in any but English... I can understand some things in several languages but speaking it is a real challenge. Italian is probably the easiest for me to understand but I love Korean and I always listen to Korean camping shows so I pick up some there. I really don't have time at the moment because my life is so busy but for down time I like to watch your channel and Korean camping shows and it does help me understand more and more. Thank you for everything you do. I don't understand why people don't subscribe... it just takes a click and if they don't want to get every notification there is the personalized so that they come less often. Anyway keep up the great work! I can only imagine the work you put in to do what you do! ... and it puts so many smiles on so many faces!!! including mine!😊
How can people not watch the whole video to the end? I´m so impressed with you guys speaking som many languages. I even go back and watch older clips that i´ve already seen. Keep up with what you´re doing 👍
I have been a subscriber for a while and always watch to the end. Your experiences are so special and we are fortunate that you share them. Pre-pandemic, I tried learning enough Mandarin to order my favorite dishes at a local Chinese restaurant. After much practice I felt confident enough to give it a try with one of my favorite servers. When I spoke she just looked at me with a weird expression. She called over another server and that person asked me to say what I had said. I did and got the same puzzled look from them. Now the owner came by the table and the three had a quick chat. All the time I am thinking how did I mess this up that they are confused??? The owner then asked me to say what I had said. I did and he smiled. He told me I was speaking Mandarin and that he was the only person there that did. On the bright side he did tell me I said it all well. But my lesson learned was the danger of just assuming. Color me embarrassed.

I've been subscribed to your channel for over a year now and I love the content. The young man at the end who cleaned your luggage was amazing! Keep it up and thank you.
Okay. I subscribed to your channel to help you out. I would like to learn another language (besides the little Spanish I know because I'm in Florida with many Spanish speaking people), but this 75 year old body probably isn't going to be doing much traveling anytime soon, so I don't see any NEED to learn another language! I remember when I was in a TelCel office in Mexico about 7 years ago, (TelCel is the main cell phone provider in Mexico), an English speaking man was YELLING at the young female TelCel rep at her desk, saying, "YOU PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH!" I could tell by the girls reaction that his arrogance upset her. I later went into a local hardware store to buy a light bulb. When I asked the local cashier, an older man, "Do you speak English?" He IMMEDIATELY tensed up and said, "NO!" When I replied, "Bueno. Estoy aprendiendo español, pero no entiendo todo," he IMMEDIATELY relaxed because I was making an attempt to communicate in HIS language. I then told him, "Quiero comprar un light bulb." He translated "light bulb" into the Spanish "bombilla" for me. So, he DID speak SOME English, and he was happy to help me learn MORE Spanish! It was an awesome experience, and all I had to learn was how to say, in Spanish, "I'm learning Spanish, but I don't understand everything." It opened the door to that man's heart enough to inspire him to HELP ME learn more! I wish you the best..
I wish i could learn new languages, i started on Korean and the alphabet and writing was sooo easy.. then it got to speaking and nope... i'm out :( I'm envious of your talent.

My boyfriend is from Tennessee (USA) and took 4 years of Japanese. I took 4 years of French. He's way better at Japanese than I am at French, haha. There was one time we were browsing Downtown San Diego and we ran across a group of very professional-looking businessmen, who my boyfriend recognized as Japanese. He excused us as we went around them, they perked up and were like, "you speak Japanese?" (in Japanese; he told me all this later). He told them just a little. They had a small conversation and we went into the restaurant they were standing in front of. Mind you: he was wearing a nerdy T-shirt and a cowboy hat the whole time. I think he blew their minds. It was AMAZING. As a redhead, I can't turn any heads speaking French anywhere. But he's white, American, and wears a cowboy hat. I'd love to see him get more reactions like that, but we don't go out into Downtown anymore because he's contracted multiple sclerosis. I'll never forget that interaction, though.
How are your language studies going? Have you tried investing some real time and resources into it or are you still doing 5 minutes a day on Duolingo? 😄

I then stopped Duo completely... and changed my approach to 90% media immersion (all native, no subs), anki cards, and pitch accent courses (with Dogen). Still early in my studies (2 months in)

@@JohnM... All of these "miraculous" teaching resources are like that, skin-deep at best. You simply cannot escape having to sit down with a real textbook to learn grammar properly.

I’m glad these videos inspire you to keep learning Korean!
I know quite a few things but not enough to be fluent yet like this
Good luck, Nina.
Me too!!!😊
I love Asian dramas too. So many are Korean and I think we (non-Korean) lose so much in subtitle translation.
You are so fluent in speaking East Asian languages ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can’t wait for her to speak fluent Vietnamese
seems like china could use some diversity :)
I am also fluent in Meandalorian like She Peng Ting.
Once you learn one east asian languages others are more simpler to learn.

It’s my First time watching your videos, and this goes to show exactly how important it is for people to speak multiple languages. The human interactions you have are amazing! Keep making videos. They’re very wholesome.
Also, I thought you were Russian too. I was wrong. Whoops! Lol 😆 🇷🇺
You are such an inspiration, and you're literally bringing cultures together. Well done!
NGL the scream I scrumpt when I saw Kevin, I could have auditioned for a remake of Home Alone!
"KEVIN!"
I was looking so hard for this comment 😂
@@aeri143 saaaame
Who’s Kevin?
@@kinley.-. The Korean man in the white sweater. He's in the kpop group U-kiss. It's a much older kpop group. So he's a kpop idol.
@@aeri143 thank you!!
Love your channel and the reactions you get from the people. They always look so amazed and shocked when you speak their language.
2:37
The way his face lightened up when you spoke Vietnamese.
Your video just popped up. You are amazing. I speak English and Spanish. Continued success to you and your husband ❤😊
Yeah but for creators that's important
I remember when you only had 500k subscribers. You've come SO FAR! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Dizzy!
Thanks for always watching from start to finish. Most people watch 30% of the video. That’s the average.
I love your videos! I am early retired and want to learn Spanish. I know some and just moved to Florida. Wish me luck!
How can people not watch the whole video to the end? I´m so impressed with you guys speaking som many languages. I even go back and watch older clips that i´ve already seen. Keep up with what you´re doing 👍
Thanks! I really enjoyed the video. I know the reactions are rare, but it’s always fun seeing their astonishment.
Thank you so much Eric. You’ve always been so supportive! You’re the best!
I loved how the lovely young man that cleaned your bag was so kind & respectful of you & didn’t want the money, just wanted to help a visitor to his country. Such a beautiful person ❤❤❤❤🇦🇺
Wow. You are amazing. I have been to several countries and use words and phrases but wonderful to see how you have gained fluency in these places.❤
I am subscribed since you were just 4K subs lol I still remember when you were thinking about not doing the videos because the grind to 100K was taking so long. Me and many others were like KEEP GOING YOU WILL GET THERE!!!!
and you did and a whole lot more! congrats.
Greetings from Times Square!
You are doin' GREAT!!! People like you make me feel proud to be American!
Incredible channel. Subscribed! I went to a boarding school in AZ and lived with Japanese exchange students for several years in my dorm (early 90's). It was fun learning a new language and culture. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you for subscribing!
The slow-mo parts made an already perfect video magical. Loived the positivity!
I'm a first time viewer of your channel, and I was amazed at your language abilities. You have a true gift and people always want you to try to speak their language when you visit a country. Loved the interaction with the people.
Thanks for watching Amelia. Please subscribe and enjoy more of my videos today.
Aw..! Kevin Woo is so nice and humble!🥰 I miss him.🥺
Kevin is a Korean-American who was in a kpop group called U-Kiss for several years and was also one the Hosts of a variety show. He is a good singer and dancer and cook! Haha.🤗
I really enjoy watching these videos and it's really impressive to see the impact of your language skills. I think it's important to learn the language of where you live. I hope you're able to get the support you need to expand this channel.
I've been subscribed to your channel for over a year now and I love the content. The young man at the end who cleaned your luggage was amazing! Keep it up and thank you.
I really admire your language skills and how the people you meet react in such a positive way. This is how our world should be.
Love your videos!💙
I started learning Korean because of the video about your homestay study in Korea. Homestay study in Korea turned into a goal of mine now, so thank you so much for that inspiration!! Hope that you will get many many more subscribers!!
I love your videos!! I don't know why more people don't subscribe to your channel and watch to the end of the videos. You're my favorite UA-camr!
I've been watching your videos for a long time. I don't know why, but your channel is one of several that I've had to re-subscribe more than once.
Thank you for reminding me. 🙂👍👍
You are a genius representing America's best and brightest!
❤❤❤ the looks on people’s faces. The friends at the table were gitty with laughter and joy. ❤ that!! Stay safe, thank you for sharing.
I subbed after the first video of yours I watched!
Love your channel so much. I love seeing all the interactions!
💜💜💜
I really appreciate that! Thank you for your support.
I've realized getting a partner who speaks the language you wanna learn is the fastest way to master it, so I'm currently going to the gym to build muscle first for learning the language
Just moved back to Japan to head a department in Fujitsu and I was doing 6 hours a day of reading/writing practice from Nov 'til February.
✊🤕
Upside is I can finally read Murakami in its original version.
Everyday i Write in Engrish on UA-cam...
I do it all! Duo lingo paired with Pimsleur audiobooks and I try to immerse myself by watching anime and following Japanese Twitch streamers. Love you videosssss
I started with DuoLingo for 30 days. I spent about 3 hours a day on the app which was enough to get a good baseline with Hiragana and Katakana. I then stopped Duo completely... and changed my approach to 90% media immersion (all native, no subs), anki cards, and pitch accent courses (with Dogen). Still early in my studies (2 months in)
We lived in Scotland for 2 years and our son’s friend was from Hong Kong… had a deep thick Scottish brogue.
I love you so much this made my day I lost your channel and I wanted to learn Japanese because of you and I finally found it, I'm happy but because of school I didn't get to focus on Japanese anymore but now I'm on break for a while and hopefully get started again I'm 13 and pronouncing some of the words and letters just fine.❤️
0:09 that “whyy” is killing me😂😂😂😂😂
I really loved Pimsleur but its such a bummer they only offer one level of Cantonese and not all five like they do with other languages
I agree. I wish they made more levels.
@@OrientalPearl I started with a tutor and now it's going great! Love all of your content! Very inspiring :)
I’ve tried it. For me it was to ‘parroty’, teaching not much at all about structure and grammar. I found it boring an unproductive after about lesson 7 in Japanese.
@@JohnM... All of these "miraculous" teaching resources are like that, skin-deep at best. You simply cannot escape having to sit down with a real textbook to learn grammar properly.
@@DinnerForkTongue agreed. I gave been learning Japanese for 7 months, and whole sentences are finally beginning to click. I use a variety of different books and learning methods - books, dictionaries, flash cards, youtube videos, podcasts, my Japanese class, etc..
I wonder if there are some Russian villages that are across the border into China, and someone may be ethnic Russian and be natural Chinese citizens and be fluent. Anyway, I've loved your videos for so long you are such a kind decent person.
Maybe so.
I appreciate that a lot!
Some years ago a Korean exchange student was making a false claim for a robbery that didn't happen. She said she had a stereo, etc. that was stolen. She got a phone call and talked in her own language telling the caller what she was doing. When she hung up, the Canadian police officer arrested her in her own language.
I was really amazed at the young man at the end of this video where he was cleaning your suitcase. He was so humble and so genuine.
I'm subscribed! Thanks for making awesome videos! 🌸
Same. Agreed. I love watching her videos. ❤
I’m subscribed, love your videos.
Thanks for subbing!
I didn’t understand the cleaning the suitcase.
me neither. I figured it was an attempt to make cash, but since he denied the money it seemed like it was more about correcting her filth.
I enjoy your videos they are light hearted and relaxing and a glimpse at another culture; I am 75 and live in New Zealand God bless 🙏
That's Kevin!! Took me a second to realize 😂
Literally subscribed at 3:00 lol
Everybody like and subscribe! She gives us so much of herself and only asks for a few little clicks and it's the least you can do so get on it people!
Thank you for your support!

It’s Kevin, maybe promoting music or the movie he’s in.
I was searching for someone else who noticed him, I thought I was hallucinating lol
You are amazing!! Thus, I subscribed to see more!! When your friend asked if you studied a language in Japan.......and then he said "Whhyyy"? I cracked up. They were surprised for sure. I love this!
That kind of weirdness really helps in learning both languages. For a while I was doing Interlingua lessons designed for Danes. It really drove home for me how similar all the Germanic languages are, at least in written form.
I like how relatable you are with folks. I have never traveled overseas but many of my family members have. One of them told me many other countries teach several languages to their people and it’s really here in America we don’t. I sure wish we did! I see how much we are missing!
I don't know how your videos reached my feed, but I'm glad they did. Amidst the Web's negativity, your videos exhibit kindness and hope. It's just relaxing to listen to you and hear the positive interactions you get there. A wonderful escape. Thank you. ❤
Well done young lady. Keep up spreading friendship by simply interacting with other people in their own language. And yes, you are young as I am over double your age.
You really inspire me to learn other languages!
I speak French but I started learning English at 6 years old and Italian at 12 (I'm 18), and I'd love to learn Korean honestly. I find it beautiful and I'd really like to learn!
I think you're really incredible. You work really hard and you seem sooo kind, it's refreshing to see someone as bright as you!

OMG, you are so amazing. I just returned from my first visit to Japan. I loved it there and the people and culture. I could only speak a few phases in Japanese but you are inspiring me to keep learning. I’m a subscriber now!😃
New subscriber. I really appreciated this video. I thought that your interactions were genuine and not like some others that I have seen. The young man who cleaned your bag was so sweet. I will definitely look into the language app. I speak several languages, but I have always wanted to be more fluent in Japanese and Mandarin. I have a Chinese American friend that I took sight-seeing in D.C. He was approached by two older Chinese tourists asking him for directions. They were so surprised because I had to speak to them as he could not. The ladies were so sweet and insisted on giving me some Lunar New Year candies before moving on.
