I think the first thing we need to do is discover how the people who do these school shootings acquire their weapons. I think that's a good first step to take.

If it turns out that a school shooter a student who either did or is going to the particular School are getting guns from their parents either with or without their knowledge, you could impose an incredibly high fine and attached with that a prison sentence if it is found out that the kid or the person doing the shooting could have been stopped if the gun was correctly locked. Parents would once again have to start being responsible with what they have in their home. Legislate inside of those parameters for school shootings. Again if it turns out that is true then you can lay down some very serious heavy laws which should probably take care of a large percentile of school shootings.
@Daddysavage all I'm saying is that people are responsible not guns. And merely pointing out that everybody likes to say things need to change but don't come up with any ideas at all. Things are fine the way they are as far as guns go. It's the criminal who needs to be locked up much much much longer than they do now for using guns during a crime. Once you have proven to be a violent offender, you must be made to face the consequences and must stay in prison longer. Way longer.

Second all 50 states require a NICS background check to purchase a firearm and you can’t go to a different state to buy a firearm as you must be a resident of said state to purchase a firearm from said state said firearm is in.
