Having a child in AMERICA worrying about getting shot at school, ultimately dying at a place to learn is incomprehensible. Edit: I find it sad how most of these comments are about where the shooting was. I posted this as a mother with kids in school. We all feel unsafe. Those children should be the only focus & changing gun laws. Kick rocks if you're here to debate about whether I said world or AMERICA.
I can’t imagine not being able to find your daughter, and to have to look in a funeral home. No parents, no friends, no siblings, no loved ones should ever have to look for a child there.
It’s hard not to cry after something like that happened. They were children … just innocent children and let’s not forget the teachers too and their families. As a father of two young kids … I can barely breathe right now. The world can be such a cruel place to be.

The fact that strangers and parents were willing to run in and save those kids, but fully armed and geared up officers weren’t, is just absolutely appalling.
Oh shut it, the cops were busy dealing with the parameter around the building, others were inside the building and others were saving kids. I literally just watched a video from a young survivor who described how he hid under a table to survive. Then described how the cops gunned him down at the door. Most people don't know that the Uvalde children were shot in the face to the point they were unrecognizable. That is why they had to do DNA tests to identify the children. It breaks my heart to learn this, that after the grief of losing your child, your baby, parents won't be able to have an open casket to see their child's face one last time. 😢

Mental illness is a terrible thing. He seemed like a very troubled young man. He was clearly displaying signs of some major mental breakdown. It could have been avoided. Why are gun laws so lenient in America? I live in Canada and couldn't possibly imagine this. I'm so sorry to all the families who lost their babies and families. It's so sick that I can barely eat sometimes. I hope the survivors get the help they need. And yes, it's all copycats. I think young dude just wanted to die and he decided the best way to do it was to go into a school and kill a bunch of innocent children.

The problem is, according to witnesses, first responders did NOTHING. They listened to the gunshots, each gunshot being the end of a child's life, and they didn't even budge. For an hour.
NO, it's correct to blame lax gun laws. NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD HAS THESE MASS SHOOTINGS. Texas had just relaxed their gun laws which allowed this 18 year-old to walk into a gun store and legally buy 2 x AR-15 rifles just one week before this shooting. FACTS. America has hundreds of these mass shootings every year and at some point you have to realize that civilians should not be allowed to own semi-auto high capacity rifles as only those tools make these mass shootings even possible.
Let's not forget about the trauma everyone that survived this, has to live with that will last a lifetime. My heart goes out to everyone involved. This world is cold and dark.

“Stay in School”. School is where you’re supposed to be. It’s where you get to learn, make friendships, and honestly can turn out to have some of the most memorable moments you’ll have your entire life. Thinking about the fear those poor children must’ve felt in those final moments breaks my heart. Innocent children… with no way of defending themselves, taken away by an evil person filled with hate. I can’t imagine not being able to wake up and see my loved ones. All we can do in this world is be kind to one another, hug the people we care about tight, and spread love.

The politicians like Ted Cruz and Governor Abbott don't have to worry about it because their kids are in private schools they don't to have to worry about shooters. But they did say in their news conference yesterday that armed officers in public schools would make it stop. Then in the very next sentence they proceed to say that there were two officers at the school when the gunman arrived and engaged them wounding them both then proceeded the barricade himself in classroom. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of these beautiful innocent children and teachers. This is so heartbreaking, and absolutely devastating. To lose a child in such a way I can imagine how these families must feel. We send our children to school expecting them to come back home safely. We expect the phone calls sometimes from their teachers because they did not listen in school. Because they had a small argument with another student. Never do we ever expect a phone call like this. If you see something please say something! Even if you think it’s just the innocent post on Facebook. You could be the one to help prevent something like this from happening.
As a mother of a 7 year old I have no words all I can say is I hope that every parent who lost their child today, every child who had to watch a classmate die, gets every resource and help that they need because this is gonna be the toughest time of their life.
i have lived in 6 countries spanning across 3 continents and for the "most powerful" and "best country in the world", i've never seen so many atrocities, backwards behaviors and ideas, poor education and health, policing issues, etc... i genuinely cannot believe things like this happen on a consistent basis. THIS CAN BE STOPPED. Maybe we can't stop all mass shootings, maybe we can't stop all knife attacks, maybe we can't stop all crimes... but we can stop the obvious crimes, we can stop the needless deaths. We can make it difficult for these people to get any gun easily, we can make it where it is LEGALLY REQUIRED to store firearms such as long-guns (rifles, shotguns) in safes or in lock boxes to ensure these guns are not easily acquired. Long-Guns are SUPER easy to use when you know the basics, they do MORE damage, they get longer reach than handguns. No mass shooting is good. however it can be insanely worse... All police officers need MANDATORY training on long-guns to encounter these situations. Long guns are devastating... even more so than handguns. handguns are TERRIBLE self-defense weapons but they do the job... long guns however do it better, and thus in the hands of a active shooter make it easier to kill at longer ranges. We need to evaluate gun safety, gun requirements, gun handling AND evaluate PHYSICAL SITE SECURITY/SAFETY. Have locked doors that cannot easily be bypassed, have windows up higher so someone cannot simply jump inside without some effort, have internal doors that close or lock during a lockdown-in-place situation and can be over-ridden by Police/EMS/Fire during a evaucation. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY AND ABILITY TO DO THESE THINGS. The Government chooses to ignore them, and states ALSO ignore them, it's up to LOCAL entities to ensure the safety of children.

There is absolutely no action that can prevent this from happening again, unless all schools start having TSA equivalent entries and/or they have 10-15 officers at every school. It's just not possible.
@@intermediate212 Texas has some of the least strict gun laws around. You don’t even need a license to carry. Maybe changing that can help fix the issue. Maybe having intensive background checks, having something like drivers Ed, having tests. Imagine if driving a car didn’t require a license. Every state should have stricter gun laws. California has less gun related deaths per 100k people than Texas…and California has stricter gun laws. We need to take action, and it will have results. There will still be shootings of course, but the scale of them will be brought down.

My heart not only breaks for the lost children and their families and those poor babies who witnessed it but also for the police officers and emergency first responders. I can’t imagine how awful they must feel discovering the carnage of all the poor little ones who died in terror. I don’t know how they cope with the things they see. How many of the the officers have young children or worse, ones that attended that school? How many families had more than one child in that school? If the killer’s grandmother survived, how must she feel? All I can do is feel so sorry for all of them and pray for everyone effected. I pray that God sends the best counselors to help them and that everyone prays for all of the community’s healing.
Here's my solution: The constitution is a bit outdated. A different era. A different time. If we want to protect our children then we have to change the laws around the country when it comes to background checks. A teenager shouldn't be allowed to purchase an assault rifle. Yes I love guns myself and I love recreational activities like going to the range or shooting at summer camp since I was a Boy Scout (A classic American organization I loved dearly btw). But the times are changing and many people are turning into lunatics because of hatred or even the fact that there lives suck so they decide to take it out on the world. I say law enforcement and the military should only be allowed to have firearms. I have never been so happy to be a communist until now. The police were wrong to wait for a tac team. My view is that when a child is in danger, a police officer is obliged to put themselves in harms way and risk certain death to save those children. That’s what people respect. That’s what I think a police officers sacrifice is.

Writing from America…. when the legal document of “Rights” was written, including the “right to bear arms/well armed militia,” the weapon of choice was a musket with/out a knife at the end. Sadly, the NRA (national rifle association and it’s members/followers) over the years, have twisted the wording to include ANY weapon capable of shooting ammunition. But yes, you are right, members/followers of the NRA sadly choose to be able to keep their stockpiles of weapons rather than the fact that so many are being murdered by them. Also, sadly, gun legislation will not change because too many of our “politicians” choose to continue to accept monies from the NRA; Agencies don’t share information/gun dealers can be too lazy to do background checks/allow “straw purchases.”

Im a 10 year old about to turn 11, and honestly the day this took place I was watching videos when the news showed this, and this all made me cry and honestly this is really sad and what made me cry the most was the dad looking for his daughter, he had no hope on his daughter being alive that he asked for the funeral, my prayers are with every single family and person

And my mom and my whole family(except my grandma) works a full time job so there’s really no one that can teach me and a tutor is really expensive. Actually tomorrow is the first day of school,I pray everyday for it to not happen, I know it will not happen bc God always protects me and my classmates and teachers.

We need to pay attention to what these kids are going through physically and mentally to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. Mental health is a serious thing, and it can make people do horrible things.
sadly a lot of the time parents give there kids too much slack when they are clearly disturbed because they dont wanna be the parents of a deranged kid / young adult, but communities definitely need to take posts on the internet more seriously when you see stuff like this guy posted. Also people who are bullied can look up to mass shooters because of how much power we give them, when the truth is, the ones who started the death spiral were not bullied individuals and were simply just disturbed disgusting people (columbine, new zealand, etc)

It is really difficult to understand the politics behind gun laws in the US as an outsider. I really feel for you and the kids. I was School age when we had a school shooting over here. As a result gun laws were made extremely tight snd their was an amnesty. Seeing adults vowing to never let it happen again and watching images of thousands of weapons being turned in was reassuring as a kid. I despair when I think how kids in the USA must feel day in day out.

I can only imagine how much of a nightmare this is for all of the parents and their families and I’m so so sorry for your loss. As a teacher myself, how long will this keep happening? I love the kids I teach like they were my own kids and I can’t even imagine this happening to them. We can’t keep letting this happen. Not anymore.
We have a 2 yr old and have decided to home school when she is school aged. We come from a huge family and she gets plenty of socialization and we'll do other things for extra curricular activities. If the gun laws change and I see better mental health help and help for people with drug addiction and so on change down the road we may change our mind but, I'm not risking my childs life sending them to school. There's a lot more to why this happened.

Parents need to be involved in their children’s lives and know what their children are doing. too many negligent parents think that it’s the school’s responsibility to raise and babysit their children. While working I was in three lockdowns in different schools due to a person carrying a weapon into the schools. We were lucky that no one was harmed, they regularly run a real-life senario in the school I was at , for shooters. This is so awful to have to say. I am crying for the loss of so many.

I don't even live in TX and scared to send my elementary daughters to school. My heart is heavy with grief for all involved though especially for the parents who lost their children. This is terrible. And with the VaTech shooting, my best friend had to hide from that gun man on campus in a classroom. My friend, her mother, brother and I kept in touch with her through text until it was over.
Nothing ever changed since Sandy Hook, but the frequency has increased exponentially. I suppose everyone thinks the last one was the last one and it will never happen again.

The problem is, according to witnesses, first responders did NOTHING. They listened to the gunshots, each gunshot being the end of a child's life, and they didn't even budge. For an hour.

Texas had just relaxed their gun laws which allowed this 18 year-old to walk into a gun store and legally buy 2 x AR-15 rifles just one week before this shooting. FACTS. America has hundreds of these mass shootings every year and at some point you have to realize that civilians should not be allowed to own semi-auto high capacity rifles as only those tools make these mass shootings even possible.

It’s where you get to learn, make friendships, and honestly can turn out to have some of the most memorable moments you’ll have your entire life. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of these beautiful innocent children and teachers. This is so heartbreaking, and absolutely devastating. To lose a child in such a way I can imagine how these families must feel. We send our children to school expecting them to come back home safely. We expect the phone calls sometimes from their teachers because they did not listen in school. Because they had a small argument with another student. Never do we ever expect a phone call like this.

THIS CAN BE STOPPED. Maybe we can't stop all mass shootings, maybe we can't stop all knife attacks, maybe we can't stop all crimes... but we can stop the obvious crimes, we can stop the needless deaths.
We can make it difficult for these people to get any gun easily, we can make it where it is LEGALLY REQUIRED to store firearms such as long-guns (rifles, shotguns) in safes or in lock boxes to ensure these guns are not easily acquired. Long-Guns are SUPER easy to use when you know the basics, they do MORE damage, they get longer reach than handguns.
No mass shooting is good. however it can be insanely worse... All police officers need MANDATORY training on long-guns to encounter these situations. Long guns are devastating... even more so than handguns. handguns are TERRIBLE self-defense weapons but they do the job... long guns however do it better, and thus in the hands of a active shooter make it easier to kill at longer ranges.
We need to evaluate gun safety, gun requirements, gun handling AND evaluate PHYSICAL SITE SECURITY/SAFETY. Have locked doors that cannot easily be bypassed, have windows up higher so someone cannot simply jump inside without some effort, have internal doors that close or lock during a lockdown-in-place situation and can be over-ridden by Police/EMS/Fire during a evaucation.
WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY AND ABILITY TO DO THESE THINGS. The Government chooses to ignore them, and states ALSO ignore them, it's up to LOCAL entities to ensure the safety of children.

We need common sense gun control measures. 18 year old kids with mental issues shouldn't be able to buy assault rifles on their 18th birthday.
There is absolutely no action that can prevent this from happening again, unless all schools start having TSA equivalent entries and/or they have 10-15 officers at every school. It's just not possible.

Maybe having intensive background checks, having something like drivers Ed, having tests. Imagine if driving a car didn’t require a license. Every state should have stricter gun laws. California has less gun related deaths per 100k people than Texas…and California has stricter gun laws. We need to take action, and it will have results. There will still be shootings of course, but the scale of them will be brought down.

My heart not only breaks for the lost children and their families and those poor babies who witnessed it but also for the police officers and emergency first responders. I can’t imagine how awful they must feel discovering the carnage of all the poor little ones who died in terror. I don’t know how they cope with the things they see. How many of the the officers have young children or worse, ones that attended that school? How many families had more than one child in that school? If the killer’s grandmother survived, how must she feel? All I can do is feel so sorry for all of them and pray for everyone effected. I pray that God sends the best counselors to help them and that everyone prays for all of the community’s healing.
Here's my solution: The constitution is a bit outdated. A different era. A different time. If we want to protect our children then we have to change the laws around the country when it comes to background checks. A teenager shouldn't be allowed to purchase an assault rifle. And my mom and my whole family(except my grandma) works a full time job so there’s really no one that can teach me and a tutor is really expensive. sadly a lot of the time parents give there kids too much slack when they are clearly disturbed because they dont wanna be the parents of a deranged kid / young adult, but communities definitely need to take posts on the internet more seriously when you see stuff like this guy posted. It is really difficult to understand the politics behind gun laws in the US as an outsider. I really feel for you and the kids. I was School age when we had a school shooting over here. As a result gun laws were made extremely tight snd their was an amnesty. Seeing adults vowing to never let it happen again and watching images of thousands of weapons being turned in was reassuring as a kid. I despair when I think how kids in the USA must feel day in day out.

We have a 2 yr old and have decided to home school when she is school aged. We come from a huge family and she gets plenty of socialization and we'll do other things for extra curricular activities. If the gun laws change and I see better mental health help and help for people with drug addiction and so on change down the road we may change our mind but, I'm not risking my childs life sending them to school. There's a lot more to why this happened.

Something needs to be done. This is happening too often. At this rate all schools need law enforcement protection. No one knows who will be targeted next. These elementary school children and teacher were innocent. Yet, their lives have abruptly been stolen from them.
The even sadder part is knowing that this will happen again, and soon. Something must be done. And we need strong, decisive action to do something.

While working I was in three lockdowns in different schools due to a person carrying a weapon into the schools. We were lucky that no one was harmed, they regularly run a real-life senario in the school I was at , for shooters. This is so awful to have to say. I am crying for the loss of so many.

A close family member of mine had a mental health crisis 3 months ago. A teen. He is STILL WAITING for a opening in outpatient therapy. Our country need mental health improvement, not gun control.
You are absolutely correct. We do not have any resources for the mentally ill. Years ago we had institutions to house them, and while those institutions were not perfect and had their own set of problems, we did not criminalize mental illness. We send the mentally ill to jail to be abused and terrorized.

I don't even live in TX and scared to send my elementary daughters to school. My heart is heavy with grief for all involved though especially for the parents who lost their children. This is terrible. And with the VaTech shooting, my best friend had to hide from that gun man on campus in a classroom. My friend, her mother, brother and I kept in touch with her through text until it was over.
I pray for the babies that had to witness this horrible crime that they have peace in their heart.
