Dont starve, and dont starve together is an indie game created by the franchise Klei. In it involves a group of survivors surviving in a world known as the constant where bizarre creatures such as pigmen, giant spiders, and treeguards. Play as one of the 21 characters, Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wendy, Woodie, Wickerbottom, Webber, Wigfrid, Maxwell, WX-78, Wheeler, Wagstaff, Winona, Wormwood, Wes, Walani, Warly, Wilbur, Wilba, Woodlegs, Wortox, or Wanda in an attempt to not only survive but uncover the secrets of this strange world around you. Whether that be defeating the ancient fuelweaver and earning the leader of the shadows Charlies favor, making it to the moon and defeating the lunar champion, uncovering the ruins of the ancients long before you, or killing toadstool if you want a pointless challenge. Dont starve has several worlds for players to explore as well such as The Gorge, The Forge, Hamlet, and Shipwrecked.
There are many structures in dont starve that aren't worth the resources they need. The rainometer is basically a cosmetic item. The thermal measure isn't even remotely useful until you are several hundred days in and even then you can you can figure out the coming season yourself with basic math. However there is one that is exponentially worse than both of those, and that is the night light.
(we will be fine as long as we have light)
The night light is a high tech light structure that covers a decent area around its vicinity similar to a campfire... So why does it suck? Well to start with it is obnoxiously expensive both in regards to resource cost and tech level requiring far more resources than what it would take to just have a firepit. Secondly, it does not provide heat like the campfire, and if having low heat is the intention, once again an endothermic fire is cheaper and easier to maintain. Furthermore, the night light has a mild insanity aura that slowly drains players standing near it. And to those saying this can be used to farm nightmare fuel, i should probably mention its only fueled with nightmare fuel
Atleast Winona gives em a use now, respawn points if she is holding the fragile rose.
Wait that's awesome fr?
At least*
Don't attack the bulbmin gammar nazi. @@Pomodorosan
They could become useful in a Maxwell skill tree by making them permanently lit or something like that
@@abyss8354sorry but that's just WAAAYYY too strong for an item that doesn't require anything such as a hard boss fight or something.
The thermal measurer could be somewhat nice if the characters said the degrees upon inspecting it
Still shit. It should be entirely changed to an item that tells when the season ends
@@PolymerUathere is literally a clock in the top right of the screen that does this
There is one great use however. When it's summer, you may see the thermal indicator very high (but not highest early on). But if the thermometer is at the max temeperature (with no gaps), stuff can start to smolder, so have great vision. If it's a tiny bit lower, or it's raining, you're safe.
@@annesn1fan50 that's a mod
@@hollowknightenjoyer the day count is a mod?
A friend of mine once suggested that it only turn on and consume fuel when someone walked into its radius. This would save its usage for situational light as needed and offer a cheap Glowcap alternative. As for me, I'd have that, but with Pure Horror overcharging it for more light and a higher insanity aura.
I feel like the nightlife should be able to run for days off of just one nightmare fuel
if they rework these structures it would be nice
I think the Night Light should provide better light the lower your sanity is
@@goldscape6875 or maybe it can make darkness insted
@@quin6507 what use would that have?
@@goldscape6875Maybe something with pvp?
@@davemiller638 eh, PvP isn’t that prominent in DST due to the boring combat
It's radius is absurd, making for a good boss Arena light.
also, being a wigfrid main I LOVE fighting shadow creatures. I use the aura to farm even more fuel for my maxwell teammates.
(why, yes, I do eat raw meat and cooked monstear meat. I outheal everything with my natural vampirism and songs that boost it)
Same.
Me, a willow user who has too much nightmare fuel lying around 😂

Wait until you realise some of us play permanently insane so we have an abundance of nightmare fuel
Why do you live like this
@@vroomkaboom108 I like to have a constant supply and use of dark swords and armour
I like this sometimes but there are times i got to tired of constant dodging kkkkk
Pros : dark sword and night armour are free to use with no cons, literally infinite nightmare fuel, full mastery over fighting nightmare creature hordes
Cons : can't see shit sometimes, there is always a random nightmare attacking me with the boss
@dragonslayer3552 nah bro you gotta regain the sanity for the boss fights but by the end your usually insane again 😂
It would be really cool if the fuel just lasted a super long time. Like, 1 nightmare fuel for 2 or 3 days of light instead of 175 seconds of light
Time to start using this as Wanda cause Im crazy at all times and always have nightmare fuel lol
I once had a great use for it.
Spended all the downtime , at base. Killing nightmare creatures. As wortox it was guarantead , but this made it faster.
+unlike fire you can farm nightmare fuel lategame.
How to rework:
1. It should be infinite
2. Would Drain sanity faster
3. You would deal more damage to lunar aligned mobs if they stand in it's area
4. Would fix Nightmare Armor, Sword, Dreadstone stuff, ink blights stuff in it's area
5. Would Generate Nightmare Fuel Every 3 Days.
And to balance that, it would be a drop from shadow pieces (Blueprint)
Kinda op if it infinite light
@@hary5406 Scaled Furnace, Mushtrees.
@@PolymerUa fair point
@@PolymerUa scaled furnace's light radius is pretty small, and you get mushtrees after defeating CC, would still be too broken
@@insertacoolnamehere4990 It's not too hard to maintain your survival in the darkness, like miner hats, lanterns etc. It's a problem mainly for a new player. But about boss "arenas" it would be absolutely pointless, because you would be assaulted by nightmares. And also there is already star/moon caller staff for this purposes. So the only way to abuse it's infinite light is too use bone helmet, which is droped by Ancient Fuelweaver, or by using bee queen crown. Ancient Fuelweaver is compatible to CC, and Bee Queen.. she is already a hard fight + her crown is not infinite/repairable and there is better ways to use it
1. Build it in ruins
2. ???
3. Loss
I think near nightmare vents if you intend to be there a while it may be situationally useful

I like it because my friend is always going insane so we have so much nightmare fuel laying around all over the world on the floor
nightlight is only worth if you're playing with Wanda/Maxwell and you have a farm of nightmare fuel
If you want light at almost zero cost. You can go under grown and catch the flying bulbus bugs or whatever they are called. They are in the underground moon biome. Catch a stack of 20 the bugs will fly around you providing light they cost plant foods and you can feed a stack of 20 just 1 to keep them full. So 1 flower off the ground will do. If the 3 flying around die some how you can grab 3 from your stack and drop them. They will follow you again. I catch stacks of 20 and keep them by my base. Anyone that joins just needs a net and can catch just 1 3 will follow them and now they have let everywhere they go. Or give them one and then drop 3. You can't bundle wrap them though. You auto drop anything you unwrap so if you try to bundle wrap 4 stacks to make sure you got them on deck your just going to drop them all when you pull them out. You can't feed them peppers they die and if you feed the stack they all die.
Charlie can't grab the nightlight's embers
no the hands still show up lmao
I love the Night Light, but I'm afraid that is incorrect.
i had a friend use this on a boat in an all bosses speedrun after beating FW in winter to not heat up in spring on a a boat while looking for malbatross
I use it because it looks cool
I can see it being useful for a Lunar island base, but useless outside of that and Winona’s rework.
OK, it’s really funny that when this video starts it looks like the person talking in this video is talking through the character because it looks like his mouth is moving with what is being said in the video.
So my first thought was wow this guy is really good with editing
Welp, main purpose of nightmare fire is cheap source of light in ruins with abundance of nightmare fuel
I use it in the ruins so i can keep low sanity and farm nightmare fuel that way, i find it very helpful
When the fake laywer gets found out
Bottom text
I wasted all my resources on that crap, I thought it was gonna last forever 😢
you can use rainometer to see when will rain when you want to farm volt goats on spring on oasis desert
It’s good because it can light up the whole screen
Boats. That's all I'm saying about this item. Boats.
That’s true! They do have a large light radius.
You can use an attack from the fire staff to fuel it the same as a piece of nightmare fuel
DISCLAIMER: single player only
This would be great in dst lol
@@StankyTheKlown idk why they removed it, plus, the darn lamp only holds 4 bits of fuel
I guess it could be a sanity recovering aura with the bee queen helmet but at that point you have the resources to deal with sanity much more effectively.
Edit: I tested it, it sucks.
the nightlight isn't bad at all... expensive yes... but when I play dst I often have so much nightmare fuel that I don't care what I use it for unless I end up going on a large binge crafting shadow items.
What's different about the newspaper zombie, you ask?
I shall stand in defense of the Night Light.
It's not expensive unless you're super early in the game. 8 Gold? I raided a single graveyard for trinkets and I now have three stacks. Two nightmare fuel, and using nightmare fuel as, well, fuel? Nightmare fuel is easy to farm. You can plummet your sanity with green caps or wormholes to kill lots of hallucinations, and easily bring it back up with a Tam O Shanter or more green caps, surf and turf, etc. Maxwell and Willow have even easier methods of farming nightmare fuel. And one single red gem? I have 10 more in a chest, and can get more if I actually cared to do so.
One nightmare fuel lasts far longer than 4 wood in a campfire, for bigger light radius. This makes it great for sailing at night, as obstacles and enemies suddenly appearing out of the dark can make sailing expensive and dangerous during the night.
Its sanity aura is a joke. You have to practically use yourself as fuel to be close enough to lose sanity from it.
Finally, we have the point that it doesn't emit heat or cold. But that's irrelevant unless you're in winter or summer, and I use it as purely for light anyway, in addition to my fire pit and endothermic fire pit.
We can also narrow it down to only mattering in winter, as you can cool down easily by sticking a thermal stone in your icebox.
Night Light is pog, in my opinion.
rainometer will let you predict rain, great for warly, wormwood and terrorize wx
As someone who switched to very long seasons after the first year, I disagree with the thermal thingymabobber. I understand this comes from a place of being a social outcast and loser…. That is all
They were decent in DS singleplayer because of the effect when the nightmares in Ruins would drop fuel upon despawning, so you could basically farm near infinite amounts of it to the point where you didn't know what to do with it. But otherwise, they're just a waste of resources
I use it...
for decoration...
Only with commands....
Then i forget it exists...
I was looking for a way to light up my hound wave trap pen... this doesn't work with an Ice Flingomatic in range. It will turn it off as if it was fire. Freaking hate it.
Forgot that to Summon the Charlie boss fight you have to keep 100 of these burning for 7 days???
the thing os i use night light because i have wayyy too much nightmare fuel like 68 stacks of them on top of each other just dropped on ground
They’re kinda nice for ruins bases as a Wendy player as you will have so much nightmare fuel you won’t know what to do with all of it.
I used to play a mod where you could slot a gem in it and it would do smth based off the gem(mushrooms growing for green). I forget which mod it was but honestly its a better use than its currect one
Rain detector is actually good if you want to set up volt goat farm friend.. The suspicious dirt pile has rather better chance to spawn if you already are in the desert when the rain is coming.
Only reason I used it is I was abusing some mod character that easily obtained tons of nightmare fuel
could MAYBE be useful if you want to make a base on the Lunar Island?
Seems like it needs an update should be able to keep nightmare creatures away what would make you more useful
It’s very good in ruins minibases to be fair, although those are more viable in RoG
If you want to farm nightmare fuel just equip nightmare set of armor and sword at this point of the game
Yeah but they're cool looking
Also you can just farm nightmare fuel with wormholes
i oftne use the night light because i always have too much nightmare fuel
I pair this with dark flowers and the bee queen crown to regen sanity
No, the Night Light is good with Willow
I suppose I'm the only one that unironically likes the thermometer.
After all I tend to forget things with such ease that the whole "16 day math" is useless for me.
thermometer is actually usefull if u play with random season lengths
I like to use it for decoration if I have a Mod that gives infinite fuel
You dont get it. You use it in your base bcs you rich not bcs you need it
You get quiet a bit of nightmare fuel from it tho it's not a 1:1
Just reducing the cost to build it will make it better
I mostly play old singleplayer, but they're alright for down in the ruins, right? Oodles of fuel laying around down there, not much burnables.
thats why i love Uncompromising mod
In theory it could be sort of useful on moon island
rainometer is good
*crushes ivanortiz6531 in the trash compactor*
Me and my friends who are always insane and just fight all the shadow creatures with dark swords (we have over 40 stacks of nightmare fuel)
You still go pretty positive on nightmare fuel, and it's really not that expensive. Causes less lag than wormhole tunneling too.
as people say in coments, at least winona uses it ig
night light is useful with new winona skill tree
it is useful on lunar island to scare the gestalts
Its pretty tho
So
wish rainometer would tell you when frog or glass rains would start, or acid rains if put in cave
If it could burn at least for 1 days with one nightmare fuel it will be more worth it
Its a way to waste nightmare fuel as willow.. But then the insanity net you more nightmare fuel again..
Winona mains would disagree.
I wish you could set the rainometer on a time schedule to predict if there will be rain.
Doesnt willow gain sanity from night light?
"unless you are Willow chungus"
that was addressed in the video
Counterpoint : It look cool
klei. why does this exist.
yeah but it looks cool
A challenge run tho
Dwarf star go brr
I hope they rework some of the structures like these, I don't think I ever built one
I like them for places you only go to occasionally and are big, like farms, chests, merm or pig house set up.
Its a nightmare fuel investment
Cry
Sanity drain is good as wanda
Also cheap to fuel as a perm light as wanda
It restores sanity for some characters
