- Words fail. Who comes up with designs that discriminate? How did this get through planning? At what point did anyone assess how are blind or visually impaired bus passengers going to use this? At what point did their access needs get ignored? Blackfriars Station Bus Stop J London
A 2-way cycle lane is constructed in between the pavement & bus stop, with priority given to people using the cycle lane. No thought given to the safety & accessibility of it bus network.
Like to highlight putting a zebra crossing on the cycle lane will not work. This was filmed further up the cycle lane & the zebra crossing does not work • This is why we need di... . Bus need to pull up directly to the pavement please so we can get on & off the bus independently.
Alt text film. This is a 2 way cycle lane with a raised uncontrolled crossing, coloured brown, with 2 rows of grey tactile paving on each side of the crossing where there are no kerbs. There are kerbs separating the cycle lane from the pavement and bus lane. There is a white triangle painted towards the raised crossing area with a bike painted behind it on both sides of the cycle lane in the direction of travel. Woman steps out into the cycle lane, a cyclist carries on riding towards her and she runs across the cycle lane very quickly. Emergency sirens and bike bell can be heard.
Man walks out onto cycle lane eating something (still dark early morning) and there is 1 cyclist on the cycle lane, who rides at the pedestrian and shouts at him, making him step back so he can ride pass. A man walks to uncontrolled crossing and stops abruptly as cyclists ride past & he has to wait for them to pass before crossing. A person steps off the bus island and waits to let cyclist go past but then steps back onto island to let another cyclist go past. Other people are still waiting on island waiting to cross at this time.
A man walks up to the uncontrolled crossing, he stops to let a cyclist go by, he starts to cross and then runs as another cyclist is riding towards him from the other direction.Man walked onto cycle lane & picture shows him stepping back to let cyclist carry on (still dark). Woman walking towards uncontrolled crossing is watching the cyclist behind them & stops abruptly as a cyclist from the other direction rides past. A person steps off the bus island & runs across the cycle lane as e-scooter rider approaches them, while other people wait to let the rider pass.
Man is waiting at the uncontrolled crossing on island & cyclist rides past, as another person walks diagonally across the cycle lane as cyclist rides past him. 2 people waiting on pavement &1 person waiting on the island to cross cycle lane let cyclist past before crossing (just getting light). There is a line of bus passengers waiting on the bus island letting a number of cyclists go past. They cross once they have passed. A bus is pulled in at the stop. E-bike rider overtakes cyclist at speed and zooms up the cycle lane (just getting light).
