  • A quick beginners guide to starting up the MD-82 "Mad Dog" by Leonardo in Microsoft Flight Simulator from cold and dark - working our way around the various essential cockpit systems to get the aircraft ready for taxi.
    This is an entirely "functional" guide - not following real-world procedures which will involve many, many checks and balances, and skipping the various sections of the avionics that Leonardo default to a "ready" state.
    You can download the start-up procedure for free from:

    Great video, mmm before switching the APU gen we do reset the gen and check if we have correct voltage and frequency, then we switch the two electric buses to on. After that we set the right after fuel pump to on and switch the start pump to of. Well done video. I flew this lady several years in Aeroméxico in real life. Greetings everyone!

    Thanks for the video, it was nice to watch... Technically you have a small logical error in your external lights usage, Steady Position Lights are the one you tell outsiders that the aircraft is electrically powered and crew is in there. Beacons (or Anti-Collision Lights) are for the phase "Ok, I am starting the engines, be aware". This applies to all airliners, not only to MD :) Normally or say procedurally, you would be turning Beacons on during "Before Start Checklist" close to the end of it.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 роки тому +1

      Yep - I realised that afterwards. The interesting thing is if you read about different aircraft, and different operators - they all have slight differences in the exact time to switch on/off different lights.

    • @FatihKoz
      @FatihKoz 2 роки тому +2

      @@jonbeckett Sure it is :) But I do not think that they will switch them though, timing may change but if you switch the order ground operators will be mad :D

    Is the Aerosoft CRJ not considered “study level”? I would’ve thought so

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 роки тому +1

      Not really - the CRJ is very forgiving in terms of doing things out of order, or having no repercussions. For example - if you don't switch on nose-wheel steering, you can still steer. Lots of procedural things can be done in any order in the CRJ too.

  • @geeflat
    @geeflat 2 роки тому +2

    What exactly is a “study level” aircraft? I’ve heard you use this term before and I don’t know what it means.

    • @jep1103
      @jep1103 2 роки тому +2

      Procedures and flight model like RL

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  2 роки тому +1

      As Jep replied - "study level" usually means you can follow the real documentation, and it applies to the simulator.

    • @onewez13
      @onewez13 2 роки тому +2

      It gets quite subjective and heated at times. One man’s study level is another’s fairly detailed…reality is the default aircraft are basic…really basic. Then you get add ons from developers like carenado who build highly detailed exterior and interior models but leave out some of the systems and procedural stuff.. anything by pmdg is pretty much as detailed as they get…as for this developer..no experience of them but it looks very complex. I consider study level to be something that without reading the documentation you would never get in the air. As most of us never fly the real things it’s hard to be certain if it flys and works as true life

      It sounds like you've messed up your control mappings. The most reliable method is start from the default profile for each controller, duplicate it, and then modify to suit each aircraft. It takes time to do, but is worth it.

    • @jonbeckett
