- In this episode of the Route Learning series, we take a journey along the Alan Thomson Simulation Peterborough to Cambridge route. Our train for the journey is 1L30, the 07:22 CrossCountry service from Birmingham New Street to Cambridge, and we join this train at Peterborough for a 09:19 departure. Stops along the way include March, Ely, and Cambridge.

This train remains one of my favourites to this day for being the train that helped get me into train sim with it being a part of the TS Academy line-up of trains. The route is also used by Greater Anglia for services to Ely and East Midlands Railway for services to Norwich from Liverpool Lime Street.
We pass an EMT (the predecessor to the EMR franchise) Sprinter at 6:59
Many of the EMR class 158's are still in East Midlands Trains livery - many of them will get repainted later.

I actually went on 3 Turbostars on Tuesday. All Northern. Sheffield to Doncaster(Towards Scarborough), Hatfield and Stainforth to Goole(Rare working on the Doncaster-Hull Local Service) and Goole to Sheffield.
It takes roughly just over 2 hours from Cambridge to Birmingham and the same coming back as I've done that journey

Almost the real thing. I like it.
These 170 class never been a fan of but loved the video. I tend to use class 142+156 on routes I do around Yorkshire and Lancaster

Great video mate and thoes routes that you mentioned in this video you missed out the WCML South London Euston to Birmingham New Street which I would love to see in a Class 390 (if possible) 🙂

I'm not usually late, but the way the videos are edited might make it seem like that sometimes. In TSW I am usually late as the timetables are ridiculous to try and keep to! Thanks for the comment :)

Hey, my home line!
It's so weird to see Milton Fen Crossing in Train Sim ... weirder yet because the crossing as modelled is pretty much bang on in terms of structures, except it's been rotated 180 degrees - the bungalow is on the right and the REB on the left in real life. Cambridge North station, the bridge over the River Cam and the segment from Cam North to Cambridge (central) also look really good and accurately modelled, but the housing and commercial buildings around Cambridge North are obviously a bit constrained by the available assets.
Thanks for this video, it was enjoyable to watch. And it makes me want to walk out to Milton Fen Crossing again (which is easy, living in Milton... but maybe not at this time of night)

Nice video mate, really glad to see you return to youtube, is there any chance the scenarios you drive could be uploaded somewhere like on ATS so others can also try and drive the scenarios whilst using your videos as a guide?
This particular scenario comes with the route, so you can already drive along if you’d like to. So far I’ve not done any custom created scenarios for this comeback. But I’ll see what I can do when I do create more scenarios in the future. :)

I found there's crossings in the track atlas that don't exist in the game, but I also found some crossings in the game that don't exist in the track atlas!
@@PTGRail exactly!!! And the road by the side of the track after Whittlesey is just a farm track! Also, Blackbrush is called Blackbrush drove crossing!! Eastrea road crossing is my road where I live!

Thanks for giving the spec of your computer. I'd be interested to know what graphics settings you use and if you ever get the 'out of memory' error, despite running the 64-bit version of TS Classic.
Everything is set to maximum, running at 2560x1440 with 2x2 antialiasing. I think the game looks better at that resolution and antialiasing setting than in 4K with lower antialiasing. I do still get the out of memory error at times, depending on the route. But it’s not as common as it used to be!
@@PTGRail Thanks for that. I've got 16GB of RAM too but I'd be happy to double it if I thought it would make any difference.

I bought this route a while ago but now every time I try to load the route it just shows completely blank, why is it doing this?
I believe I saw you asking why your routes were not working before and you didn't even have an active membership. Do you even have a membership to ATS right now? If not, don't bother asking why your ATS routes aren't working.
@@bethhughes559 This is a payware route to begin with and I need to have an active membership on top of that?

I don't know this route in real life, so can't spot the inaccuracies. Do you have any examples?
@@PTGRail For example, when you approached the 3 mile mark for Ely Stn, you should cross 2 foot crossings and the signals are way out of place - there might even be some missing! Not only that, the railway should be on quite a tall bank built in the 1800s to prevent the railway from the floods.
Though, I have to say that you drove that very nicely. I travel on this route almost daily and it was exact to real life. Very nicely done as always!
