I've had mine for two years. I just bought the rod/reel combo, no bag or gear. Everything works like it's supposed to. It breaks down pretty easily. I think for someone wanting to get their feet wet with warmwater fishing, this is perfect. It's not expensive, it works just fine. I'm not trying to land 10lb bass or fight pike with it, it's a good beginner rod/reel.

I bought my rod from that China site, ... you know the one. A choice between a Rod with or without a fighting butt is in the offing on that site, the choices are a model #5, without and a #8 with. My #8 came in at $33 with tax (free shipping). I upgraded to a Maxcatch Avid reel and am still under $80. My late great Uncle introduced me to fly fishing on the serene, spring fed clear lakes of Wisconsin. I cant wait to get back to it, ...
I hadn't fly fished in years, but I got back into it a couple years ago. The Mad River Outfitters channel helped be re-learn how to fly cast. I also got a fly tyimg kit for Christmas 2020, and there's nothing better than catching a fish on a fly you tied your! You should look into that, as well!
I just want to add to my previous comment as its 2024 now i have bought another rod and kept the reel since 2021 ,,,and know i have 5 rods and reels and find this rod and reel combo is my go to for most part ,,,,even though the rod has been switched out
It's not the rod that catches the fish it the Angler and now days these rods are just as good as a 800 dollar rod they work just as well unless your wanting one specific thing for the rod to do I wish people would quit calling them cheap
That is just not true. You can catch fish on a willow stick, doesn't mean it is as good as a nice rod. There is much more to a rod then just catching a fish. The weight of the rod makes a big difference if you are casting all day. There is also the flex and how the rod handles the line. Cheap rods don't dampen and recover as fast and can cost you fish in certain situations. Also more expensive rods will be more accurate, just like a more expensive rifle. If you don't want to spend money on a more expensive rod you will catch fish and you can have a great time, if you are a good fisherman. But equipment does get better with cost. These are cheep and will ultimately preform as cheep.
A "polar vortex" in texas means 70-degree weather! 😂 It's crazy hot here! I got a 5/6 weight reel from this brand recently and can't wait to try it out.
get a pack of good leaders the one they give you is soso pluss you will need more soon aneyway maxcast has good cheep fly line when you get into it more get it 4 or 5 wt is good for that rod its a bit thiner then what they give you but just as strong
I bought the same rod spring 2021 , The rod tip snapped off so I replaced it ,,,a few weeks later it snapped and broke off a 3rd of the way down ,,,I do not recommend this rod and reel combo off of amazon after my refund i had to wait for 4 weeks for my new rod to show up ,,,which took 4 weeks of fishing out of prime time trout fishing to wait for,,,on top of that i had to wait for company to make a decision on refund ,,,What a joke ! ,,,,HOw Ever the Reel can be bought for 100 bucks Canadian ,,,Very well made ,,,The rest of the combo is garbage !
Know your limits as to the species that you wish to pursue ie .. a torpedo barracuda, bonito, or an aggressive bluefish, striper, musky, or a classic battle with the trout, largemouth/smallmouth, flounder…etc ..Notice I mentioned salt/ fresh water 💦 and different heights in the water column . The decision a person has to make getting into fly fishing 🎣 is how big a fish is he/she about to pursue and possibly utube for lesson 101 fly fishing vs finding a capable fly fisherman who can be found in your local rod and gun clubs.. Bottom line..This will eventually encourage you to decide “” do I take up fly tying “ and can I afford a SAGE FLY ROD at $700 .. REEL $$?? On & on it goes .. There is no greater thrill than to have a monster fish on the end of your line hell bent to get away with your fly with your reel screaming.. What to do !! What to do.. GOOD LUCK 👍 & enjoy. It’s a wonderful sport and have a buddy with you !!

Yes it’s very worth it I caught all my fish in my videos with it until I went salmon fishing . Snap first day hooking on a big fish

i got that one when you put backing on ONLY PUT ON TO WERE IT SHOWS RIGHT AT THE bottom ON THE FIRST HOLES ON REEL witch is abought 33% of the backing
