I didn't know fly rods had bearings. I guess I need to change my blinker fluid next. ONLY KIDDING. I just couldn't help myself. Always good to know how to maintain your equipment. I have spinning, casting and fly reels that are still going strong after 20 years because I know how to change bearings, clutches, drag washers, seals and the other stuff. I would advise all anglers to know how their stuff works and how to maintain it. Things cost too much these days to keep buying new all the time. Good video.

So happy I found this video I bought that same rod and reel and mine was free spooling and I am new to fly fishing and thought I had a bad reel till I just changed it around and now it don’t free spool

I just want to add to my previous comment as its 2024 now i have bought another rod and kept the reel since 2021 ,,,and know i have 5 rods and reels and find this rod and reel combo is my go to for most part ,,,,even though the rod has been switched out

I bought my rod from that China site, ... you know the one. A choice between a Rod with or without a fighting butt is in the offing on that site, the choices are a model #5, without and a #8 with. My #8 came in at $33 with tax (free shipping). I upgraded to a Maxcatch Avid reel and am still under $80. My late great Uncle introduced me to fly fishing on the serene, spring fed clear lakes of Wisconsin. I cant wait to get back to it, ...

Did you ever figure out what paint worked? I have a plastic pelican im wanting to paint and i dont want to chance it if its just gonna peel away

No paint is going to work perfectly on a poly canoe that's what a good quality exterior latex house paint is the best, easy and cheap to refinish. Painting with latex paint is a well known fact in the poly boat world.

Mine also came with right hand retrieve and I had no idea how to fix it. I didn't know how easy it was until your video. You saved me! The idiots who sold the reel should include instructions on how to do this! Maybe they should read about how many folks had the same problem. I actually sent one back thinking something was wrong with the reel and the one they replaced it with did the same thing! Now I know why. The company should have realized this problem a long time ago.

I hadn't fly fished in years, but I got back into it a couple years ago. The Mad River Outfitters channel helped be re-learn how to fly cast. I also got a fly tyimg kit for Christmas 2020, and there's nothing better than catching a fish on a fly you tied your! You should look into that, as well!

I've never thought to use a syringe for backwashing my grav filter. I have a platypus we use for the whole fam and I've always just raised the clean bag for a minute or so at the end of a filter run. Syringe looks more effective I'd say. Good info!

Hey guys! My fam and I ran across you a backpacking over spring break. Watched a couple of your vids. Good luck with the channel! Also a heads up- that package was a backpacker's cache. Some poor dude hiking the 96 miles of the LSHT was lookin forward to those wipes and jerky. If you come across stuff like that again you should leave it be unless you know they've been there for weeks / months. Good practice for backpackers is to name and date their stuff for this reason. Keep up the hard work!

It's not the rod that catches the fish it the Angler and now days these rods are just as good as a 800 dollar rod they work just as well unless your wanting one specific thing for the rod to do I wish people would quit calling them cheap
