  • I Should have Started with this Engine... || The Volvo 740 T5 Project In this video i talk a little bit about why i'm choosing the -96 b5234T over the -99 b5254T and we have a look at what needs replacing on the engine in the form of service parts.

    Har bekanta som kör 750hp med ett av dem ”klena blocken”. Dock på 1 bars laddtryck bara, då de ligger ett gäng timmar bakom toppen. Ca 350 sug hästar

    Can the factory ECU from a B5234T be made to function "stand alone"? Seems like the later model ECU's require communication from the BCM to function correctly. I'm only in the research phase of my project, parts are much harder to come by in the USA. Volvo Nick's comment about how shipping a M90 to the US can be tough is troubling.

      Absolutely, all Motronic 4.3 or 4.4 are good for standalone use. Some models have immo and that can sometimes be a little tricky but not at all as tricky as the Me7 ecu.
      Then use a T56 transmission, that is a good choice. But yes you will be required to make a custom bellhousing or find a suitable adapterplate and make some type of cluch arrangement.
      Remember that the M90 is a direct fit but it's still a very weak gearbox. Most people with more than stock power use either bmw gearboxes or something even stronger.

    Jag kör utan ac. Finns att köpa den korta remmen på biltema :) Täcklock finns på lmr om du ska köra sneckbox eller jörgenbox. Kör själv sneck 😀

      Fanns ett kit på autodoc för utan ac så jag tog ett sådant och hoppas på det bästa 😄

      @@BackmansGarage täcklock finns på Volvo billigt, annars ingår det i ”sneckbox-kitet” om du planerar att köpa det nytt.

    Hi how much does M90 gearbox cost in sweeden? And do you also know how much would a 2.5 tdi engine costs. Awesome video like always. :D

      You should talk to yoshifab about that swap I think he has one in his 242 now

      Around 3-400 usd for a whitblock M90 gearbox. A bmw gearbox would be a better choice. But it will require some welding skills with the bellhousing and is not a direct fit.

      Costs a buttload to ship over and would probably never get here under the current conditions. I've heard about people cutting off the bell housing of a 350Z 6spd and machining bolts for an m46/47 bell housing. Not sure about flywheel or clutch though.

      @Volvo Nick yes it's a cd009 you can buy adapters for it to a whiteblock. Yoshifab makes a adapter to also.

      A 2.5tdi (D5252t) from 850 or v70tdi in decent condition would go for about 4-500usd, the things around it is harder to come by, like motormounts, oilpan and transmission from D24.

    IPD has a 25mm front and rear sway bar kit for about $233.

      Do they make one in 25mm that will clear the T5 oilpan? This swaybar is a stock one from a volvo 760 with the V6 engine and they drop a little bit more to clear the oilpan.

      @Backmans Garage sts machining sells the sway bar the drops down. Ls swap uses it also. Ipd will take months to get anything from. Lol

    So.. what would be the best T5 engine to get for a ride swap. I plan to run a maxxecu so it juat needs to have a cam sensor. I am really thinking I should scrap this 16v redblock. Pistons alone are 600. This would be a 5-600hp goal maybe more. I will build the bottom.

      If you want to go aftermarket ecu and have a slightly bigger budget i would go with the new B5244t5. That engine would be the "strongest" and is good for around 400hp without touching the bottom end.
      If you want to run stock ecu and clear inspection and so on the old B5234T would be my recommendation. If you ride the 240 go with the B5254T since the low power and torque will be required to pass inspection.

      The b230 is not a bad engine at all. Easily 600hp without much work and alot more reliable too. But nothing beats the sound of the T5 😄

      Yes, if its the whitblock bellhousing found on volvo 960 with the 2.5l inline 6 manual.

    i heard the B5234T2 is the best t5 to push the most power whitout opening it ? do you know if its correct?

      I would say its the B5244t5 the b5234t2 probably isn't a bad choice either.

      the B5244t5 is from the v70 and s60r? think the t2 is from 850

      @@robintenghult7307 I believe b5244t5 is from 2005-2009 s60 T5 or 2005-2007 v70 T5. The "R" models had b5254t or something because they had 2.5l iirc. The R guys do apparently swap to b5244t5 blocks when they crack the stock 2.5 blocks.

      The best way is to google the engine one is speculating to buy. 81mm bore is avalible anywhere from 1.9l to 2.8 Wikipedia has pretty good info search for Volvo modular engine.

    Du kanske har sagt det förut. Men varför kör du inte på ett eftermarknadssprut, typ MaxxECU eller liknande om du hade tänkt gå över 300 hk?

      Jag har haft stor efterfrågan på att köra så mycket original det kan bli dvs med motronic och originalprylar. Personligen så hade jag kört maxxecu och kommer göra det i framtiden men jag tänker att jag sätter ihop detta först så får jag bra content (och att jag är nyfiken) sen när det ska börja piskas så blir det maxxecu/ecu master eller något liknade istället så kan man grotta ned sig i det med.

    Rent krast, så länge du kör med original stakar speciellt om du har en motor innan 2005 så kvittar det egentligen om det är 81 eller 83mm borr. Släng i den ursprungliga motorn och regga och bygg motorn med 81mm borr så den tål mer effekt

      Sant, stakarna är också ett problem som det skall pratas om längre fram så fort jag börjar ta mig över original effekt. Kommer förmodligen både regga och bygga på b5234t motorn och gör mig av med b5254t motorn som det ser ut nu.
      Om ekonomin tillåter så blir det bygge på en B5244t5.
