This song is prophetic. I have heard this track 100's of times, and it's only this time that I see how deeply these metaphors and the story pierced into the future that we occupy. "And he said I am not allowed much danger. Keep in line, you're an old friend stranger. You'll burn me in effigy and I'll burn you in effigy."
The part you really liked at the end there, that's classic Isaac Brock guitar playing. Weirdass twittering bird sounds, lots of sorta octave powerchords. Those first few albums are full of stuff like this, especially with the extended instrumental breaks toward the ends of tracks.
Thanks for the reaction. keep em coming, Anything off this album, Its a long Drive, Building Nothing out of Something and the Moon and Antarctica... if you want the raw melodic shit. My vote ' Life Like Weeds' !!!!!
Most modest mouse fans agree they are so great in the drawer early albums. Lonesome crowded west is arguably a top 10 influential alternative album from that decade. It's a masterpiece of unpolished perfection and there isn't a better album to encapsulate melancholy or despair in solitude I highly recommend anything off this my favorite bring a more bluegrassy song styrafoam boots Theres also an album of bluegrass covers I'll request
@@Io-vz2jq He's talking about the bluegrass tribute to Modest Mouse titled "Pickin' On Modest Mouse" - he's not calling Modest Mouse themselves bluegrass.
Also MM fans nowadays always spurning their later albums like they weren't bumping Good News and We Were Dead back in the day. I love their earlier stuff, but it's not a dichotomy. I can't even say they got worse with age because they were putting out absolute bangers like King Rat and Whale Song as B-sides.
Modest Mouse are a very talented band who have a lot of respect within the music community. You should definitely react to more of their stuff. Not sure if you take recommendations from viewers but Life Like Weeds, The Stars are Projectors and Cowboy Dan are a few good ones. They honestly have a lot though.
Hey kerrymac1 I like what you are doing. I love modest mouse and this track. You should check out Cursive. Sink to the beat is one of my favorite tracks. Anything off of The Ugly Organ is awesome.
Can't wait to see your reaction to this AMAZING song. Another AMAZING, their MOST AMAZING is a song called Life Like Weeds!! Would love to see your reaction to that one!!
A few rare tracks some Modest Mouse fans may have not heard but are excellent. Nothing New Dead End Job at the Dead Letter Office (wrong decision) Ocean Breaths Salty (early version) I prefer this over the albums cut. Sorry that I can't link them since my pc took a crap on me.
Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys would be very good bands for you to check out. They blend Celtic music with Punk music. Plus since this is supposed to be St Patrick's Day week these bands are a perfect fit for the holiday that has been canceled due to the coronavirus.
Don't know if you'll see this, but I would love to see you listen ten to Spitting Venom by Modest Mouse. Also, you should check out The Airborne Toxic Event@
As a hardcore Modest Mouse fan, this is one of the very few songs I've never liked. It definitely has their sound, but it just seems too in your face for me. I don't get it, cuz they have other harder sounding songs that I love. To each their own I guess.

Superb superb song and album.
Love the "malls are the soon-to-be ghost towns" line. The song was written in the 90s and they were 100% right

YESSSS and Tundra/Desert and Make Everyone Happy off their first album. Guitars that sound like seagulls are the kink I didn't know I had.

Already familiar with both of those bands. I even saw Flogging Molly live in Dallas a few years back. The put on a hell of a show!
love the breaking bad shirt!
