YOU are a blessing my kind friend. This knowledge is powerful. This will save me a ton of money! Thank YOU for sharing this. I'm doing both front and back air springs! Replacing compressor and air suspension solenoid valve.

Thank you for showing how to do this job. I have just done my rears here in the UK (we had a sunny day for a change), and now I'm about to tackle my fronts. Doing this myself has saved me thousands of pounds, and it's only possible because people like you share how to do it.

This video was a great help man. But the big difference for me that people should be aware of is after I finally got the assembly out and cleaned it up some I was looking at the top of mine and there was no silver C ring on the top, but the new one DID have that C ring ready to install. 😱😱 My stomach dropped with the realization that I probably just tore my car apart without knowing I bought the wrong part and mine must be different.
So I came back to the video repeatedly comparing that shock to mine thinking "but they look _EXACTLY_ the same in every way! How could Mercedes make two 99% identical shocks for the same vehicle except for that one miniscule difference?" So I get down and really clean out the top with brake cleaner to see just the slightest hint of the C ring around the edge of the center disk. Apparently my _bag_ didn't fail. That seal did and it plowed the disk up into the C ring. What a stupid f*cking design. If the C ring's entire purpose was to hold it in just in case exactly my failure occurred, why didn't they just _thread_ the disk into the frame, completely removing any possibility of failure happening to begin with. And obviously they thought it was possible if that stupid ring was put there in the first place.
And trust me, that C ring was an absolute nightmare to get out with the disk smashed into it and not wanting to go back down.
Edit: Then the strut's shaft snapped while I was trying to get the nut off and they don't sell JUST the strut. Looks like the ol benz is gonna be in the air for a week because that's the fastest they can get the whole assembly to me. And of course the whole assembly is 3x the price. FML

Bravo! I watched a 30 minute video requiring a lift, and all kinds of whatnot. I will have this video playing when I do this job myself.
Do I have to jackstand both the left and right side?

    • @GeneralMechanicGA

Well I didn’t stand it on both sides just the side that i worked on

Make sure us disconnect battery or pull suspension fuse so suspension doesn’t get activated

Safety measure is to pull the compressor fuse so as to not risk airspring inflation during the job.

How much was the part? With or without adp dampening? How long did it take to do? Only the bag? Why put a chinese part in a mercedes?

Do you know what kind of air front shocks a GL450 2008 uses ? Every time I call the auto part company they tell me they have two types !!

Go to eBay. Great prices on all parts.
I bought whole set for $378.00 dollars. It came with 2 front springs + 2 back springs + compressor. A total of 5 pieces. It was OEM quality! I was shocked with joy!

Some models of the GL were equipped with adaptive dampening. If your strut has small canisters hanging on the side of the strut, you will need the adaptive dampening strut.

      Mmmm
To be honest I’ve done lots of work on Mercedes but haven’t seen yet a bad fuse box
But you know in this world everything is possible to happen
