Love the vids. taught me a lot, but you should try to emphasize how important saving your work constantly is. I had a full 30-45 second clip that I was working on. I had a custom character I made in photoshop, I made him walk in to the screen with the camera pacing alongside him. I had audio imported to give him dialogue. the camera zoomed in/out while he was speaking. Then I was just gonna have him walk off screen again. I was working on the mouth movements. I planned on using the vector layer to animate the mouth quickly. It was the last piece of the puzzle. Well, the software crashed after a solid 2 hours worth of work. I didn't save a single time cause I just wanted to power through it and get it finished. I was having fun. Anyway, to anyone reading this. Save your projects! do it every 30 minutes at least. Do it more! You will regret not doing it. I have learned. the pain of going frame by frame slowly moving your characters piece by piece and having it all be for no end result is devestating. SAVE YOUR PROGRESS! I REPEAT SAVE YOUR PROGRESS!
Thanks for the tutorials they are great, I will use it with my students. BTW, thanks for using Linux Mint as your OS, we need to do our community bigger by teaching people how you can do the same (and better) than using windows or mac, and for FREE using open source resources. 👍👍👍
On my animation, I have a sound that lasts 4 seconds. However, the sound would only last about a couple of frames and then the sound will cut. Is there a way that I can adjust the sound on Pencil without having to go into another program?
And I added that it is only a short film that makes it. we cannot extend rather than that? like what I mean thou is the screen so that the minutes of the scene can be longer, on what is the default.
Yes, I mean, I just can't import MP3 but WAV works just fine. And in ToonBoom it just doesn't work in any format, that sucks because almost all my animations are based off audio
can i import a MP3 music file using the same method you did on a sound effect ? will be happy if you can answer it asap but take your time since i might be the first person asking LOL

Hi! Very nice video. At present I have a character doing a head turn in six poses. I import the first one and move on to the next frome with the onion skin on. When I try to position the scond pose over the first frame (onion skin) I cant move the new pose smoothly. It sort of jumps in small increments. For instance, the new pose's feet will never line up exactly with the first image.What can I do about this? Thanks!
I find it a really nice program but I would have been even more enthousiast if animation could (also) be done by tween like fotoshop (the computer creates the frames in between of a position or color transition etc. It seems development is idle? I hope not as I found it hard to find something like it, especially for free. Thanks a lot anyway, als for the tutorials, I am really happy with it.
Yes, I don't think pencil will have more features added, but you should check out Enve. It's also free and open source, and has much more advanced features including tweening/key framing.
I imported an audio file as an mp3 and it appears to only be there for a single frame, and I can't even hear anything. Anybody have any idea what's going on? Am I doing something wrong? Update: I imported the file as an mp3. That's what I did wrong.
I would use whatever you have to record your voice and then use whatever means to make sure it ends up saved as an mp3 or a wav file. Then you'll be able to import it the way he did (unless you're me, in which case you won't really be able to lol)
I don't know why people like you upload tutorials to youtube, you glaze over half the important things you do "So I just zoom in" for example, you never show how that is done, sure, simple when you know the software, but stop trying to teach people software if you do not want to spend the correct amount of time going into detail.

The solution is to convert the audio to a WAV file. 2D pencil doesn't take MP3 files for some reason

An odd thing that happens when I import short clips of movie audio is that at the end the audio cuts out for no reason, I don't know why
When I import audio, it always cuts off at the end. Also when I export the animation with the audio, it goes out of sync, do you know how to fix this?

This didn't work (even though I used .wav), so I'll add the audio in a video editor once I'm done with the animation
