      Speaking as a doctor, If a doctor is telling you to lose weight at 11-12 % BF, you need to see a better doctor.

      Many doctors these days just seem to read flow charts from their overseers. I'm not really sure what their point is when I could just input data and answer automated questions and receive my automated prescription/advice/referral. I started going to an independent doctor unaffiliated with the big providers and it's a bit better.
      The days of your doctor getting to know you are disappearing quickly. It's not really their fault either.

    Geoff, AlphaDestiny and Sean Nalewanyj have changed my view (and PRs as well) drastically. In 2017, I trained for around 5 months. Was following Fakelean-X a lot then. Tried "maingaining". Could only able to squat 50 kgs in a 56 kg BW and 5'9". Quitted training assuming "I don't have genetic potential." Started training again from August 2021, with a BW of 53 kg. Just focused on heavy compounds and minor accessories, and literally forcefeeding myself. Just today I hit a 70 kg 1RM squat, in 58 kg BW.

    A funny think I noticed on Greg’s video was his reason for not liking bulking is because When he was natural, he dirty bulked from 150 to 180 and just got fat with no muscle. Then he said he went from 150 to 170 the next year and gained a good amount of muscle. He tried to word it different, but he’s literally saying he lean bulked and was able to better put on muscle as a natural.

    Thank you for this video. Some YT content creators just can't see past their own "IFBB pro bias"... forgetting about real people. For instance, I'm currently 16-18% BF with just a faint 4-pack visible. However, among my friends and family, where most are overweight and don't lift, they say I do have abs. The answer to the "visible abs question" is in the eye of the beholder, it seems.

    On point! Borat to bond 😉. Jokes aside, If you don't lift, bmi is a very good starting point for a health assessment before looking at body composition (which is easy to determine) and blood markers. And yes, for natural people (no peds) waist size is also indicative. And very good point that there are skinny people with no abs. Keep up the good work.

    • @esmee6308
      @esmee6308 2 роки тому +1

      I agree, lifting, especially for men, is what screws up BMI. It's rare to have outliers that don't lift (or do heavy physical labour, or a ton of loose skin) that aren't *anywhere* in the healthy range, since low-end to high-end we're talking about a ~20kg difference. My aunt, for example, sits at the low-end of a healthy bmi, has her whole life, healthy markers, yet when I dropped to a BMI similar to hers, I was already underweight even before lifting properly, but my ideal weight is smack in the middle, slowly creeping up since I do lift. (And I am a bit of an outlier to begin with, scoliosis and a hip-problem takes some inches of my height, loose skin adds a bit of extra weight.)

    Ab definition is also a fat cell location issue, which is genetic. Some people have a genetic preponderance of fat cells covering their abs, while others can have a higher BF percentage and yet have cut abs. This is true especially for women. Given a man and a woman at the same BF percentage, the woman would also certainly have better looking abs than the guy.

    • @SmilingSynic

    That point on Fat Storage tho is UNDERRATED. I'm one of these guys that has literally no fat anywhere else on my body except my stomach. In order for my abs to show, I'd have to be less than 10% bf & that's just not feasible. Besides as an insulin dependent diabetic who gives shots in his stomach, it's less painful having some fat there 😂😂😂.

    People can have excess fat/skin on their body, it doesn't mean they are the dreaded "fat" word. I was 153 down from 250 at 5'10", no chance I was ever going to see an ab close to my belly button since it was all loose skin and a bit of fat. Now that I lean bulked up to 193 over 3 years, my waist is still the same 34." I have never been healthier or happier at my new weight which has been a lot of muscle. BMI SHMEEMI, biomarkers are the real judge of health and not the guy who has ab anxiety and yells at a screen. Nice video on this topic Geoff, thanks!

    Like you said, some people haven't developed their abs at all. If you've only weight lifted and never played sports as a kid or worked out your core, your core may be very weak and underdeveloped. Sports develop your core A LOT. Almost everyone on my soccer team had a 6 pack back in the day lol.

      Had this discussion with a friend who was all "why you working abs? I got abs and all I did was squat and deadlift." Yeah but you also were a wrestler in high school, I haven't played any sports since I was ten so I probably don't have anything to reveal under the fat if I don't do some ab work now.

    Bro I have been using my abs a guide for my training for a year now. Six pack is why I want to look good (summer and it takes effort). Top four a maintenance phase (no effort and gains are slow). Top two and half (gains are easy and food is ummy). I switch between these every few months depending on how I feel.

    Great points. Especially like how you mentioned if you've never trained abs how can you expect to see them. This is not discussed enough. This whole idea of everyone has abs, you just need less fat is nonsense. My abs didn't show until I had enough muscle mass built up.

    I followed he who should not be named advice for compounds creating large good abs and got literally nowhere. I have been training abs for about 3 weeks and have already made significant changes in definition. I'm really not even that skinny. Somewhere between 15 ti 17 percent bodyfat ish. Pretty sure if I keep working on it I'll have decent abs by the end of the year all things going well. So glad this BS is coming to light.

    Great video. Especially the takeaway about being empathetic. I bought who-shall-not-be-named’s Training Book, and although most of the information was good, it wasn’t worth $200. There were very little variation in the training plans. Like I hated training “legs and biceps” because it came right after a back day. It’s like what if you don’t like training legs and biceps? A training book worth $200 should have a vast variety of programs for many types of training preferences. That book just demonstrated his narcissism, since it featured his preferential training splits. However, I won’t call him a psychopath because he has some level of consciousness of what he’s doing.

    A thing to add, admittedly for a small population: huge weight loss fucks up your aesthetics like abs, a bag of loose skin around your lower stomach is going to look fatter and hide more of your abdominals than if you'd not previously been fat. Admittedly if you've recently lost a ton of weight you should be conservative with bulking to reduce regain.

    I have abs. They are not visible. I don't give a fuck. My doctor says I'm in good health. In the last month, I have outboxed people who do have abs and are 10 years younger than me - my cardio is excellent for what I do. I don't have a visible six-pack but I'm healthy. And I'm happy. And Greg, in my opinion, is too obsessed with aesthetics - I'd much rather feel good. Again, not saying one is better than the other... I'd just be fit physically and mentally and look reasonably ok than be pumped with sauce and have visible abs and be a slave to (and promote) what I consider body dysmorphia. Also... Greg's definition of "FAT" seems weird. And his video is clickbait.... which he's already backpedaling. Thank you for making this video.

    Another great video that echoes some stuff I was thinking about in Greg's response. I think homeboy just spends so much time with enhanced body builders and noobs with body dysmorphia who look like them that his views on this subject are skewed. Like I bet he's seen skinny fat people who want to go bloatlord and now he's overcorrecting because of it. But the no ab=fat thing is such an asinine argument to make unless you're busting chops with your friends, which is what I used to think before he doubled down. Especially when he had a video like 2 days later, about how having abs isn't important to the health of many people.

  • @facepullsscents

    I see guys on bulking always get super bloating? For example : Aplha Destiny
    Why this happen? food choice? or if we bulk we are automatically to get bloated?
    This is make our measurement (with tape) is nonsense since we measure together the bloating effects and that is not pure gainz.
    Let's bulk not bloated.

    Another problem with Greg is that I am starting to think that, being as smart and knowledgeable as he is, he does not fully understand how abs work at least in a natty person. He advocates not training them at all because him, a juiced up 8/9 % BF bodybuilder, has very good abs definition and does not feel the need to add isolated abs work to make them look better. He seems to be completely unaware of what a good ab training (and not meaning of course 7 mins high reps fancy incluencers workouts of crunches and stuff like this) can make in order to make them popping out even through significant layers of fat, while some others might have to say goodbye when they go over 14/15% simply because they paid attention to Greg insistent statement about not having to include isolated series for abs

    In my opinion, when I say obese, I am referring to the technical form, like an elevated BMI. When I say fat, I am referring to appearance regardless of BMI. So, in my opinion, someone can both have a healthy BMI and also appear "fat".

    • @hernandez9350
      @hernandez9350 2 роки тому +1

      The issue is a healthy BMI doesn't always mean you are healthy. If you have a low enough amount of muscle mass and are 30%bf as a man you could be obese with a overweight BMI (guesstimating). Same with a high enough muscle mass and a healthy bf% being a non healthy BMI.

    • @mighty0974
      @mighty0974 2 роки тому

      @@hernandez9350 I understand this very well. I guess I should have placed "healthy" in quotes. All I'm saying is that when I hear someone (unnamed) say someone is fat, I understand that to mean that they are visually fat and not automatically medically obese.
