They need to cut the bottom of the box as well to let the air out. Otherwise you'll get a vaccum seal when trying to get the other box out.

It works pretty well with my old Google home. So you don't need to worry. But you're right they should test it.

I have a few Minis and an old regular Home one but I'm latino (hence I have an accent) and when something is playing and circumstances are not perfect it gets definitely harder to trigger the assistant. When no music is happening, it works like a charm. So if that got improved, it would be a really compelling argument to upgrade even though I like the design of the old one more. The Apple Homepod mics work way better in that regard, in my experience.
I would really like to see if there was an improvement.
It might be so they aren't messing with other people's assistant's when they watch the video.

The original should have made so much more use of the coloured lights. The boot up sequence is pretty much the only thing that uses them.

@@tsartomato they honestly don’t really collect dust, I’ve had a google home mini since they came out and dust kinda stays off of it, probably because it vibrates when used.

When you were playing carpool critics and James was talking I almost completely forgot that you were testing the speaker and was wondering why James wasn't talking about the speaker it was that crisp
Not sure. From my headphone, James's sound from the speaker is too much bass compared to other James' other videos.

I like that speakers are getting the L&R STEREO feature. This is something that a system for the home has had for a while and now we have it again. I love marketing, I truly do.
Does the Mic mute switch actually disconnect the microphone or does it just tell the software to stop listening?
This is important because if the switch disconnect the power / data connection to the microphone then it can’t be turned on, even if the device is infected with spyware. IOT Devices don’t exactly have a good reputation for security.
How would you know?
If you're connected to the internet, you're at risk.
When google first released the idea of Google homes, the mic switch was first a button. With large feedback they turned that into a dedicated switch that physically disconnects the microphone from communicating with any other hardware module.

I really love my google nest hub max. We got it at the start of lockdown and it's been invaluable for my kids to make video calls.

I got a pair of these a few days ago. Sound quality is slightly better than one Sonos One, but they have more of an "annoying little Bluetooth speaker with the Bass turned up too loud" sound. If you're gonna spend $200 on speakers you can get way better sound with "proper" speakers, but the whole Googly-homely-ness of these is super convenient. I've started just using these for podcasts and phone calls, and (very conveniently, with voice) switching over to the Chromecast powered living room setup (with big KRKs) when listening to music.
