Just what you want from a speaker review, what it actually sounds like and comprehensive analysis! I've got 3 Nest Mini and a Max in one room and sound great, have two Audios coming to join the party. Definitely recommend pairing as two nest minis joined sound more than twice as good. Also with the edition of the Google Max actually improves the sound of the Minis! I'd definitely recommend mixing and matching these as they complement each other sound wise and get better the more you add.
I'm actually in the same position as multiple people here, bought all brand new Sonos home Theatre and 4 Sonons One Gen 2 in November for mye whole house, and just sold them all. The Sonos experience is terrible, constant dropouts and generally alot of technical trouble. Meanwhile my old Chromecast from 2013 is stil working 100% perfect. Great review Brandon! I love reviews that actually shows the product in use and comparisson with other products. Great review Brandon! Your editing and microphones really help capture the audible differences between the various Google/Nest speakers (which isn't always easy to do via a video)
I received mine on Thursday but didn't find the limited eq controls until today in the Home app. I'm pretty satisfied with the purchase and I'm tempted to get a 2nd one. Great review sir.
I was lucky enough to get a chromecast audio before they discontinued them... So I have a home mini that defaults to playing on my 200 watt Logitech speakers. Certainly not the best speakers, but I'm not an audiophile and they sound great to me (and only $119)
So I have a chromecast 2nd gen or 3rd gen maybe but not the discontinued Chromecast audio....you guys blue tooth the audio to the high quality speakers? Or there is a way to run a line? Meaning it does things the newer chromecasts still can't do? Is that correct chromecast audio has functions that only it can do? And I can find em on ebay? Thanks for your review, I just purchased a pair. It's great that you criticised it, I don't feel very informed with a glowing review. Nothing is perfect, especially at this price.
Thank you for your review of the Nest Audio speaker. I have bought two of them, and I have placed one in my Great Room and one in my den. They both sit on a table that is against a wall and are facing outward toward the center of the rooms they are located in. I also have two Nest Hub Maxes, one in each of those two rooms. Each of the Nest Audios are the default music speakers for the Nest Hub Maxes in the rooms the Nest Audios are in. I control the Nest Audios with their respective Maxes. I am enoying very much the music that is coming from the Nest Audios. The music fills the rooms very well and is bright sounding. I usually listen to contemporary jazz and a little classical music. To me the music from the Nest Hub Maxes does not sound quite as good, probably because the music is coming from the back of those devices. I am certainly not an audio expert, and I don't have the best hearing in the world. However, especially at $100 apiece, they are an excellent addition to my smart home.
Such a great video! I've subscribed with how well done this review was! Funny how you brought up Sonos and honestly the reason I'm watching this is because I'm looking to replace my 4 month old Sonos Ones because of how awful the Sonos experience has been. Thank you for this!
Got one for sale a week ago, and been trying to find someone with the same problem as mine: volume below 35% is barely audible, the assistant does can be heard, but any audio playing below 35% is as it's playing on mute. It does go high and loud, but volume need to be kept 55% or above to be usable.
I have like 4 google home minis. I only use 1 but they keep giving them away! This looks dope, great review! If I had something bigger than a ~600 square foot apartment, I'd pick it up. But right now, a google home mini is all I really need right now.
Its possible, I did notice some delay when trying to use it as a stereo speaker pair with my shield tv. So only usable for music playback unless google updates it to work synced with android tv.
@@ThisIsTechToday Cool, I think your expertise and knowledge in the field adds quite a bit to the reviews and comparisons, while still keeping the tech theme. I'd definitely watch 👍
Interesting you say you don't see a point for the Sonos! Think you've helped me make my decision. How would you say the bass is, focussing on that - is the bass good enough with two of these in an apartment?
I have 4 Sonos 1 gen 2s and this Nest audio and I can tell you first hand that the Sonos is well worth the extra money , It has better base and clarity ,you can also put google assistant on it and you can also cast to it....Don't get me wrong , the nest audio is great for what it is and I use it daily in my bedroom for music and alarms , weather ect.
Thank you - this was very helpful. I think I'm going to buy two of the Nest Audio (in chalk) so we can use in stereo. At this price, it's worth the gamble.
For clarity sake, the Nest Hub Max's speakers are not ALL on the back. There are 2 small tweeters on the front, and a woofer on the back. But I would assume it will sound much more scooped than the Nest Audio and lack midrange clarity.
Got mine this morning in the UK, the courier delivered it at 8am. Went with the charcoal (crappy choice of colours here, would have loved the sky). Still interested in seeing how it holds up to the new Echo 4th gen (only reviews I have seen so far are in hindi or Italian 🙄). Not quite as loud as I was expecting but the clarity is way better than the 3rd gen Echo IMHO.
Even with my iPad pro speakers, I can hear the bell sound clearly on the iLoud speaker whereas I don’t on the Nest Audio. I am indecisive which one to get between Apple Homepod Mini and Google Nest Audio. I already owned a Google Nest Mini, it works just fine and will be better integrated with the Nest Audio. But since most of the devices I owned are Apples so I’d want to try the Homepod Mini (Huge reason is that lots of reviews say it sounds great. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find one to try how it sounds in my country). I probably buy a Nest Audio because it has a lot more third-party service support than Homepod Mini
My problem right now (that I hope this speaker allows) is I can't watch a video on say youtube with my nest hub mini and play the audio on a speaker group that combines screens and speakers. That sucks, I can do audio only no problem with stuff like Spotify. But watch Netflix on my hub and have a group include nest minis playing the audio gives a msg on the hub saying can't cast video and audio together or something.....I also can't pair a screen with a speaker, why not right? I can't give my nest hub a boost in audio by pairing a nest mini speaket with it, or make a group with speakers and screens that works while watching video.. Maybe you can pair or create a group with the new nest audio and a nest hub and watch UA-cam to get audio through both speakers and the video through the 1 screen...because that currently doesn't work for me. This would be a nice addition to the house especially with the new Google assistant starting to roll out. We are Google Home in the whole house combined with a Samsung Smartthings hub (which Google and Samsung integrated very nicely) now I can ask Google to do things with devices normally outside the Google ecosystem. I can run routines that include devices like motion sensors and contact sensors for example and run or end the routine by asking Google, devices using zigbee or zwave i control with Google assistant. A smarthings hub is $60 and now you have So much more ability that works perfectly with Google, and routines that are far more sophisticated..its worth adding Just for the zigbee and zwave instead of only adding wifi devices which use giant batteries. Zigbee motion detectors use a coin battery that is tiny So the entire device is much smaller and the battery has lasted me well over a year and its still over 50%....and zigbee creates a mesh network with each new device added, each new motion sensor or light switch, light bulb contact sensor, or whatever device automatically creates a self healing mesh network with the other devices using zigbee or same with zwave. Each device added is like a adding another wifi mesh router, except the light bulb is the router. So you get better coverage as you grow. Google uses wifi only and the devices don't create a mesh, even with a wifi mesh network after too many wifi devices problems occur and devices drop. Zigbee keeps your wifi un cluttered. Imagine 20 or 30 devices less using your wifi network, or 50 less wifi devices on your network, it would probably run better no? Less devices needing to be reconnected occasionally and showing up as doubles. Eventually Google will have thread (i hope) smartthings has a thread antenna inside it now, So its ready for the switch too. Anyway sidetracked myself...excellent review I absolutely want one or three for the house.
Great review. Really enjoyed this one was very in-depth and true. I was going to buy anest audio but now after watching this I'll certainly be buying one
Nice video. Hope this is not a dumb question, but if I’m say watching a UA-cam video on my iPad, can I have the sound stream out of the Nest audio speaker? It should connect without issue through Bluetooth I would imagine.
Glad you reviewed this because I really like the idea of having audio all over the house wirelessly and the sound quality on the nest audio seems pretty well rounded for a such a cheap smart speaker.. Also I listened to that Daft Punk song with my Pixel Buds 2 (bass boost on of course) and holy fuck you weren't lying about that bassline lol
Great video, thank you for the comparisons in sound, the video was very informative and your demonstrations made my decision for me! I'm definitely going with the Nest Audio, not quite sure of the color yet, but, that's the easy part (or is it)! I subscribed to see what other goodies you put to the test! Thanks again!
Just found this channel and loving your approach to speaker testing. Please do a comparison between this and the JBL link series, including the link bar (if you dare!) You're doing a great job. Please continue making more videos!
Brandon - terrific video. Thanks for this. We have a JBL extreme and a google home in the Livingroom, a couple of more speakers in the kitchen including a nest hub in the kitchen so the parrots can watch Rocky and Bullwinkle.... more JBLs with google audio Chromecast on the deck, All over the map but it works great. However in the living room it is particularly unsatisfactory. Time for an upgrade. Your video answered all my questions and the size comparisons was helpful. The regular google home and the JBL Extreme leave the living room and upgrade the deck. Toot!
Really nice Video. Had my eyes on the Nest Audio since i use my Home Mini quite a bit more often than initially expected, especially for YT Music streaming and Radio. Thanks for the review!
Great review! Very informative. In your opinion, what's one of the best speakers within 200 dollars for pure sound quality and not necessarily smart speakers.
Hey Brandon, great video as always and thanks for the review! I like the way you presented it, because it's very understandable for an audio noob like me. Btw do you have any recommendation for the best (delight to dollar ratio) speaker for a TV in bedroom? Plugged or portable doesn't matter as long as it doesn't use difficult setup like mixer or required more than 2 devices installation.
Thanks! I'd look into a sound bar for that. There are so many options that it's hard for me to suggest one without knowing your budget or setup, but that would probably cover you over a big surround sound system.
How is it compared to the Ikea Symfonisk? They are competing at the same price and it's the cheapest Sonos speaker now. And you have the advantage of not having to be in the Google ecosystem. Would like to see a review.
one thing google hasn't said is that there are latency issues when pairing the audio nest to a tv via bluetooth (even as all the promotional material mentions bluetooth connectivity with TV as a feature). I've tried with mine and the lag of more than 1s makes it not viable at all. The tech support admits that these latency issues are NORMAL. Reviews might want to update their articles that suggest using nest audio speakers with the TV Bluetooth function. if you are looking to use them as tv speakers, DONT DO IT

A pair of Nest Audio speakers or a Google Home Max? BF deals from Google puts the pair of Nest Audio at $170 and Google Home Max at $150. What sounds best?
Hey Brandon have you ever tried audioengine a2+? I wanted to have a stereo speaker on my desk. I was thinking about audioengine a2+ and then this came out. Price of getting 2 google nest audio is 100 bucks cheaper in my country. Will you suggest spending extra 100 bucks for an audioengine product?
Sonos sound good but the soundstage is disappointing. Having one Sonos for a room is not satisfactory in my experience. I'm selling mine and trying out two audio nests in stereo - i think there is probably a range/EQ difference but to me acoustics is everything, and since the Sonos sounds bad in my building it's worth a try. Edit: got them today, it's a lot better. Much less tinny, they don't play as loud as the Sonos but more importantly they sound nice at higher volumes, where the Sonos got worse imo and i never played it at max.
Was that a Victorinox Swiss Tool I saw at the start? Nice video too and I feel that the new Nest feels worth it, mostly as they might get some more deals on it down the line.
Thank you, Brandon! I watch this video and your review on the Google Home Max. Right now, Google is having a Thanksgiving deal. $150 for one Home Max and $160 for two Nest Audio. In that price, would you still recommend the Nest Audio over the Home Max? Thanks for answering!
I'm selling my Sonos one gen 2 to get a stereo pair of these (even making a small profit). The Sonos experience is really horrible. Especially for the Google assistant, which always seems to scream at you and wake up your neighborhood. It's also bad at listening. The Sonos sound is good but the soundstage is disappointing, i want my room to sound more full instead of tinny when I'm not near the speaker. I knew there was no way i was buying a second one, two of these seem like a solid option. Hopefully I'll be left with bigger sound stage and more solid software.
"Obviously, the iLouds do end up sounding better as a whole.."? Hmmm... What I noted as obvious in your vid was the iLouds sounding overly bright and somewhat shrill. Got to hear them in person.
Since that product been released, my Google Home Mini start to sound bad. I hope they didn't reduced the quality on other devices to make this one sounds better :/
It’s so funny how you use Solar Sailor to test the really low frequency bc I use the exact same song to test the low end. Another few songs that smart speakers have hard time replicating the lows are beginning of Talking Body by Tove Lo and Set Fire to Rain by Adele. 😂. And for highs and details.. Hotel California (Live) of course. Overall, sound quality, would you recommend this vs the Amazon Echo (not Dot)? I have both eco systems in my smart home so I’m okay with either. I’m looking at adding a smart speaker in my garage just for music when I do work in there.
Haha. I’ve seen SS make venue systems drop out on the low end so it’s pretty funny. Amazon is doing some shockingly good stuff with their audio for the size. Definitely a suggestion if you care about audio. Not so sure about the assistant though 😜
@@ThisIsTechToday Just went out and bought the current Gen 4 Echo vs Google Nest for comparison myself. Out of the box with default, the Echo’s treble was terrible and the bass on the Google was just average. But have to say, with the right EQ adjustments on both, the Echo has the more fuller sound. Even the highs are more perceptible. Was comparing both in a 20’x35’ living room and 25’x35’ garage. Talking Body low was nearly nonexistent on the Google, but present on the Echo. Lol. And on Hotel California, the Google mids seemed too pronounced, while the Echo seemed more balanced. Also just got the Echo on sale for $69. So that’s a win as well. 👍🏼

How can I get my stereo to Bluetooth to it ? To Play my old cds?
Anybody know why the new Google TV app is not working with the Google ultra with my voice asking Google to play a movie or a TV show?
Really nice Video.
Had my eyes on the Nest Audio since i use my Home Mini quite a bit more often than initially expected, especially for YT Music streaming and Radio.
Thanks for the review!
Glad it was helpful! It's a great speaker!
How do you feel about having to pay $12 a month just to cast your music?
@@danmescall77 i have the YT Premium Family Subscription and share it with my brothers, my Mom and my wife. So i really pay a fraction myself.
@@Try4Ce Still...you dont feel even a little slighted that you have to pay that much money just to cast your music to a smart speaker?
@@dm7934 actually I feel a little awkward due to this weird conversation that got pretty much out of topic.
Great review! Very informative. In your opinion, what's one of the best speakers within 200 dollars for pure sound quality and not necessarily smart speakers.
Hi Brandon, Any recommendations for the equalizer settings?
Nest hub speaker isnt in the back. It faces forward and down into whatever it's sitting on. Hub max has a rear woofer.
Nest audio 2 pieces or harman kardon one duo , which is better?
I haven’t used the HK so I can’t comment on it with any sort of credibility. Sorry!
@@ThisIsTechToday speaking of soundbar how about sonos sound arc single setup?
How is it compared to the Ikea Symfonisk? They are competing at the same price and it's the cheapest Sonos speaker now. And you have the advantage of not having to be in the Google ecosystem. Would like to see a review.
Thinking about using two of these, to use with my PC.
one thing google hasn't said is that there are latency issues when pairing the audio nest to a tv via bluetooth (even as all the promotional material mentions bluetooth connectivity with TV as a feature). I've tried with mine and the lag of more than 1s makes it not viable at all. The tech support admits that these latency issues are NORMAL. Reviews might want to update their articles that suggest using nest audio speakers with the TV Bluetooth function.
if you are looking to use them as tv speakers, DONT DO IT
@@izeberg81 thanks for the info.
I wonder how a pair of Google Nest Audio compared to Google Home Max. What do you think?
Im getting 3 of these for the price of 2 today 😎

A pair of Nest Audio speakers or a Google Home Max? BF deals from Google puts the pair of Nest Audio at $170 and Google Home Max at $150. What sounds best?
Brandon can you please tell best speakers to buy on budget your say i will buy no question asked you so lit ....
Just got mine love it
Hey Brandon have you ever tried audioengine a2+? I wanted to have a stereo speaker on my desk. I was thinking about audioengine a2+ and then this came out. Price of getting 2 google nest audio is 100 bucks cheaper in my country. Will you suggest spending extra 100 bucks for an audioengine product?
This comparison is awesome. Now we do need the final comparison: nest audio vs homepod mini. Looking forward watch it.
Wich one have better audio quality? New Nest or Sonos One 2. Great video. Many thanks!
What do you think about Jbl Link Music?
This or the home max ? Since the max is currently on sale ?
Home max will definitely have a significantly louder sound and substantial level of bass if that’s what you’re after. It’s also huuuge, lol
I just ordered mines its coming Wednsday.
It actually came Tuesday 💀
Can I use it with iPhone?
Yup
Thanks for your review
How are they compared with your Sonos One?
this or edifier R1900tIII?
"Obviously, the iLouds do end up sounding better as a whole.."? Hmmm... What I noted as obvious in your vid was the iLouds sounding overly bright and somewhat shrill. Got to hear them in person.
Happy Christmas
This sale at $159 in my country
Wow 🤩. Awesome video and product 🤩
Thanks
very very good review!!! thank you! xx
Thanks!
Google missed a trick they should have bought out a Google sub with the new range of speakers.
Can 2 be paired in true stereo?
Yes
Great GREAT review
Thank you!
