  • After more than a half-million miles on the road, the gear selector linkage developed lots of play and looseness which needs to be addressed. This linkage arrangement is found in all GM produced "malaise era" cars.
The linkage components were rather worn so they had to be replaced. Though there was a marked improvement, the selector detent "click" still seemed a bit weak. That issue gets resolved in the follow up video: • TH350 Shift Selector R...
I sourced nearly all of the parts on eBay.
The following parts are still produced or reproduced and readily available:
    • Transmission Range Selector Rod Swivel clamp (GM # 1385607)
    • Transmission mounted gearshift external lever bracket (GM # 480565)
    • Steering column lower arm control rod bushing & sleeve (GM # 1394293)
    • Auto Trans Shifter Cross Shaft Linkage Bushing Spring Kit.
The transmission control equalizer shaft assembly (GM # 488452) was one of those parts made of "unobtainium"; discontinued many years ago. The deities of automotive smiled upon me when I found one that was NOS (new old stock). Alternatively, I would have had to scour the web or scrounge the local wrecking yards for a used one.

Where did you buy your parts and would this cause transmission issues?

Really worn parts such as the ones I had would cause lots of slop in the linkage which could lead to more severe issues.

For my follow-up video (ua-cam.com/video/iVJ84w_F0EQ/v-deo.html), the TH350 detent spring assembly (#6260153) and the shifter rooster gear selector [LEVER, Gr. 4.279, #330136] are also made of unobtainium and were sourced from eBay. I got the filter kit and transmission fluid from the local parts store.
