    Welcome back and sorry for your loss. I'm really happy your back I have the exact same bike as you so your videos are really helpful. I have a bearing noise from the front it's noticeable from 20mph below that it's non existant so hope it's either wheel or maybe an engine part... Ouch! Maybe your videos will help me find it

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  2 роки тому

      Thank You.
      Does the sound change only with bike speed. check by slowing down with the clutch pulled in so the engine is at idle. If it seems to be affected with bike speed, not the engine speed, then check wheel bearings or if the brake caliber is dragging.

    • @parisjordanou-malian1265
      @parisjordanou-malian1265 2 роки тому

      @@mikesfjrcorner7129 so when I pull in the clutch to bring the bike to a standstill the noise goes away at 20 mph and below. I couldn't work out if its from engine or wheel maybe I will try to switch engined off and let it roll. Could the brakes also cause it?

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  2 роки тому

      From what you say, I think it's the front wheel bearing. Maybe have the dealer check it out to confirm.
      You say the clutch is in and the RPM is at idle while your going over 20mph and you hear it, but it disappears as you slow down. Also, FYI, tires could make noise that may sound like a bearing if they are worn.
      A good place to start is to buy the bearings and seals at Partzilla. They don't cost too much. Have your dealer press them in. Also clean the caliber's and check brake shoe's.
      Don't think its the engine since you only hear it when your moving.

      @@mikesfjrcorner7129 thanks Mike. Tyres are brand new Metzler roadtech and I live in Germany! I think you may be right might be wheel bearing. I will take it to the place I bought it see what they will charge for it can't imagine its going to be that expensive! Really love the bike just looking forward to seeing your videos on all the DIY money saving stuff!

    I purchased an FJR1300 last year and found your site and wondered what happened to you. Glad to hear you are good but sorry for your loss. I plan on replacing the cam chain tensioner and the part and manual should arrive in a couple of weeks. Sadly I dropped the bike taking it off it’s side stand and putting it on the centre stand yesterday. I nearly caught it but too late and now it has battle scars on the plastic bits. Keep up the great channel.

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you.
      I feel your pain.
      That center stand cause me to pop my knee. Took over a year before I stopped feeling it. I feel it could be more balanced than it is.
      I dopped the bike 3 times. 1st time, rolled off stand. 2nd time, late night tired, did not put the stand all the way down. Both of those times, no damage. The last time as I said in the video, damage was in a k turn causing damage on right side.
      I don't like the look of the bars, but I think it necessary on this bike due to the weight. I had a Honda Interceptor for over 30 years, never dropped.
      I replaced the tensioner right after I got the bike. If you do some digging, they had several versions over the years. I guess they were quietly failing. It was defiantly making noise. I change it just because.
      I had a hard time trying to get to the screws through the frame hole. Problems with getting a small enough socket along with a swivel extension. I replaced them with Allen-head screws that I can use a swivel Allen wrench to put them back in. I also took the side cover off and wire tied the chain tight so it does not slip during assembly.
      So you know, the next video is tires and front fork oil, then fairing removal, then valve check. I still have to order gaskets for the valve cover before I can do it. So I guess sometime within the 3+ weeks from now.

    Hi and welcome back, Mike. Sorry to hear about your brother. I know how sad and stressful that can be.
    I'm looking forward to your maintenance videos. My '04 has just 32k, but these tasks are looming on the horizon.
    And I just installed the same R-Gaza cages from Amazon. I've dropped mine three times in the 7 months I've owned her and enough is enough!
    See you soon!

    I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope all is well with you now. I have a question that I am sure you have been asked a multiple of times: I am saving up for a bike and I am fairly certain the FJR is right up my alley. I am expecting to spend about $5,000 on the bike. From the videos it looks like you have a Gen1, so what are the real differences or pro's and cons of Gen 1 vs Gen 2? I can tell I can find a Gen 1 for a better price than a Gen 2 but I've seen very well priced Gen 1's but they go fast. Would you recommend a Gen 1? I like the Gen 2's instrument panel but I'm thinking that's silly to make a deal breaker. How much success have you had finding parts and aftermarket things for the Gen 1. Thanks.

    Hi Mike! I own a 2013 FJR which displays 94,500 Km (58,000 miles) after my last oil change, I noticed a rattling on the right side of the bike. I suspect it is the chain tensioner, if this is the case should I also change the chain? Thank you in advance for your valuable advice. Greetings from Montreal!

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  Рік тому +1

      Yes it's the tensioner. I had the same noise when I got the bike at exactly the same mileage. They went quietly through several revisions. The screws are a bear to get to. While you are there, it would not hurt to change the chain. Just make sure everything is timed and aligned correctly. Valves hitting the piston could get messy. Good luck.

      I'm in the middle of a problem with the front fork's. Lower Valve is broken. Hard to find, got it ordered from the UK from K-tech. This is holding up the shooting of videos with the front of the bike taken apart. once I get the part and put the front end back together, their is a progression of videos that have to be done at the same time. Valve check, Fluid change, fairing replacement (Damage from a previous drop), then crash bars. The bars go on last. Hang in there...

      Understood, bought at 50k, changed it then. The time when I was gone from the channel, a lot of miles were put on when life happened and I was in another place, working sun up to sundown. I'm now bringing all of the maintenance up to date. When I made this video, I completely forgot I did it when I did the valve check. My bad.
