  • Hello and welcome to TUESDAY NEWSDAY! Your number one resource for the entire weeks worth of VR news! This week we have a ton of pretty exciting pre- CES VR news from HTC Vive to new electrostiimulation gloves... just in general this is about to be a crazy week for the entire AR and VR industry.. But one of the most exciting things I caught wind of has to be either the fact that Meta is going to be focusing much harder on PCVR in the future as well as Quest 2 and standalone; but ALSO, some really interesting electrostimulation hydro gels that are in research.
Sorry for the different mic this this video, I made it on the road!!

With the WeTac glove we should just disable movement tracking on controllers and track the WeTac glove instead, so the buttons on the controller are still usable but your entire hand is tracked, then you can play like normal, feel everything touching your hands, get full hand tracking and when you find something cool you can put down the controller and interact with it like you would in real life.

Why not simulate a controller on the hand? I'm sure it's easier said than done, but especially with the haptic feedback a simulated button might not actually be that bad. and then if there's worry about accidental presses, maybe there could be a gesture to turn it off?

    • @jsk-art
      @jsk-art Рік тому +9

@@OrangeC7 Honestly I think the best way/way a lot of games are going to end up going towards with the haptic/tracking gloves is probably going to be some wrist-mounted, purely virtual controller or something similar. Keeps it out of the way and your hands free, but still decently accessible and no reliance on super specific gestures that would likely be the alternative solution for no controller.

Wide FoV is why I really can't see myself leaving Pimax anytime soon. Yes their products aren't...always the most reliable (my headset itself has had no issues in 3 years, but the cables *for them* last like, 6-8 months tops) and their marketing can be questionable with their tendency to over-promise. Fingers crossed for a more consumer friendly version of HTC's headset! Apparently they have the names "Vive XR" and "Vive XR Elite" as patented names from what I've been told, so hopefully we could actually see a competitor to the Quest 2 in a super small form factor without too many neat features cut out from the Elite.
That said, they could be saying it's all rumours at $1300 instead of $1400, with it just being one headset... Here's hoping that's not the case, because small VR goggles like that would be super cool as long as they don't break the bank.

The complexity of the curve determines the quantity of the sensors and quality of the sensory detail. And you also look like a dmt entity, so there's that too.

Doesn't matter how much tracking, haptics, FOV, and other hardware improvements there are. If each new hardware improvement has like 3 games that use them, then most people aren't going to buy them.
There are so few games, and when you do find one, it's almost always janky and unfriendly. Once people realise this, they just stop looking.
It's just not worth it to grab your Quest 2, set up guardian zones, plug it into your PC with a link cable, try to launch the game, reboot SteamVR and the Oculus PC app, and launch the game again, for an experience that's almost always just worse than playing a flat game

Considering the fact that devs have not been at liberty to freely discuss it yet, they seem damn giddy peeking out from behind the curtain about what PSVR 2 is allowing them to do, and that’s gonna be a key quality moving forward to production of great games.

I'm always waiting on bated breath for more interactivity in VR; I SUPER want to get my hands on some really convincing VR gloves or something of the like
the only thing that really gives me pause is the possibility of something going wrong and it like, breaks your finger or something because like,
one of, if not *the* most important facets of truly immersive VR feedback is having some sort of resistance when you grab/touch things

As an original Vive user... Have we come a long way? Is there a hands-down no-compromise better headset than Index and it's controllers? Because that was the best option back when I got my Vive.

You know why the mask option, as sweaty as it can be, is still a great option? Camera tracking for non-caucasian faces is a MESS more often than not. Even without any beard, I couldn't get good tracking in anything I tried in the past. Here's hope that those improve, but having another tracking option available is great for that alone.

11:40 The one thing for me with my CV1, before it broke, is that (besides the microphone) I think it really still holds up today. The display is lower resolution, but it also has a pixel layout that kind of masks it (plus OLED). The tracking was absolutely stellar on it, even to the point that I pretty much never needed to recalibrate. And above all, the Oculus Dash is the most intuitive and best running dashboard that I've used among many others.
Only downside is their snapping/magnetic displays being wonky and not really supporting me laying down. Oh, and how much it desperately needed a clean and stable USB connection. I could barely run extensions to get it and the sensors across my room even on a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port.

I know people that still use a cv1 as their daily driver.
for me the only issue is the low resolution. The fact that you can see the individual subpixels is a bit much

I liked my HTC Vive but it was ruining my vision and glasses and VR don't mix well without buying custom lenses. I am glad to see newer lenses especially diopter lenses coming for dial in comfort. I love my HP Reverb G2 headset because I can read things in it without wearing glasses 95% of the time but the WMR controllers are meh and could use some updates. They work but could be better. Exciting times for VR ahead it seems.

I got much better performance after setting my Meta 2 to connect via Hotspot with my PC which has a wifi-6 enabled motherboard. So, although I have an old router, I am able to use wifi-6 enabled connection through my PC.
I thought I was using the USB to stream video but turns out I was using 5hz network streaming without realizing it.
So, any PC with built-in wifi-6 may be a better streaming experience than through your router (if its older).
Just thought I'd share that because I got much better performance where I am super impressed. I totally ignored this option, not realizing my computer already supports Hotspot at faster speeds than my router.

I have a Rift CV1. Couple reasons I haven't upgraded are cost and feature sets. I'm looking for something that'll give me the same boost in immersion as it did going from flat screen to VR. Something that can track my hands fully accurately (would be sweet if there were gloves that came with the headsets), hopefully has depth enabled AR capabilities, and is, of course, far more comfortable to wear than the CV1. As far as I'm aware, nothing like that is coming out soon, but if a company wants my money for a VR headset, that's what they need to offer.
Would love to see your opinions on how VR has changed... maybe these newer headsets are miles better than my own and I just haven't been able to try them out.

I was still using the Q1 while having the Q2 just laying around until recently, but mainly due to the controller drift (went through a really quick RMA process right after they officially launched in Germany and I'm happy now), but that OLED, even tough having a noticably lower res and some SDE clearly has the better overall image, the IPD adjustment like that should be standard and it actually is more comfortable as soon as you've got a battery pack at the back. Still prefer that Q1 (or CV1) strap. Just upped my Q2 to Bobo M2+ which is very decent as well. Guess the Q2 will only have finally won in the grand total for me once I got the A2 headphones and the Pro controllers.

As much as I wish I could feel what I see in VR.
My problem is that they usually have such fragile cable connections.
These look so fragile that a cable break is very likely to occur after a few cycles of use.
