I got locked into gathering shards or whatever and other stuff. Some towers. Gun fights. And couple missions. 4 has been fun so far. I got mad in 3 tho lol
Everything after 2 definitely should have been a non-canon spinoff. There's nothing inherently wrong with self-parody in a franchise, but when that becomes the main canon plotline, it's not a good idea.
Saints Row IV is my favorite game in the series and honestly one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve bought 4 different versions of it and played it probably 8 times. It’s an incredibly fun game and I think the actual entertainment values of the activities in the world are the highest of the series. With the addition of superpowers, Mayhem and Insurance Fraud have never been better. The world hasn’t changed from 3 but the new power’s dramatically change the way to traverse it if you want to. The story is a nice tribute to the past of the series while still sticking true to the tone established in 3. I think the vehicles are less useful to be sure, but until the powers are fully upgraded cars are just as useful for about 50 percent of the progression. I just think it’s really fun, and it’s a great time just hopping back into it at any time.
The worst part about 4 is how dull it is. The way its always night time, how all the enemies and even main antagonist look the same, steel ports boring design, reused missions and assets, no challenge, cosntant attempts at humor, makes it feel tedious. Not to mention the final boss kept crashing for me so i couldn't finish
Yeah, Volition fucked up royally. The funny part is, if all of this was just DLC? This would have been one of the best DLC's ever created and would have been showered with praise for years to come, and the real Saints 4 game would have been made and been fucking epic af and the Saints 2023 reboot more than likely wouldn't have been complete garbage and THQ and Volition would still be alive and thriving since the OG people would still have jobs.
That wasn't Volition's choice. THQ forced Volition to make a Saints Row 4 before they went bankrupt. And considering they were already working on a standalone expansion at that time they just made it Saints Row 4.
You really don’t get the situation that Volition was put in by both THQ and Deep Silver. Beyond that they gave us an hilarious story full of callbacks to end on coupled with a lot of fun gameplay and ways to enjoy the sandbox.

Saints Row 4 was the first game that I ever bought with my own money, simply because a friend told me there is a Dubstep gun in it. So when I saw the game on the shelves of a store months later, I immediately grabbed it and asked if my parents could buy it for me using my money. It was like 30€ at the time, which for me was a lot, considering I come from a poor family and never got things like pocket money. I had to wait a few days to play it tho because of stupid games related rules my parents put on me lol but when I did finally end up playing it, I had a really good time. Not sure if I as a 14 year old was supposed to see a guy with superpowers, swing a "rubber bat" at fetish-gear wearing NPCs, buuut it was great! And the Dubstep Gun still is my absolute favorite piece of fictional weaponry ever. So many times during my playthrough I just stopped and giggled at the ridiculous absurdety of what was happening on screen and even nowadays there still is no game quite like it that matches the "anything goes, just make it be crazy lol" vibe. no other game ever had us control a huge statue and fight something as weird as an energy can. no other game tasked us to throw people and objects around in a game-show fashion. no other game let us launch nuclear explosions by hitting the streets a bit too hard. no other game gave us a dubstep radio station. It solidified my love for abstract weaponry, virtual simulations, over-the-top action, absurdist humor and even Sci-Fi as a genre. Saints Row 4, despite all its flaws, will forever hold a very special place in my heart. Friggin' thank you, man ;o; The only thing that pushed me to complete SRIV is the humor! I don't view the asset reuse as a bad thing, but the game just got so unbelievably dull at some point. And like no reviews I've seen mention how obnoxious the cluster collection aspect is. They might liken it to Crackdown, but I'm pretty sure you're the first I've seen saying what I was thinking every time I dedicated some time to hunting them down. At least you get a skill that reveals nearby clusters on the minimap, and you don't have to collect them all in order to unlock every upgrade. Still doesn't make it fun or meaningful. :p
i like open world games and i like to screw around and not just follow the missions. in 2 i could spend hours just roaming around in rival gangs territory and fighting, in this fame there are no rival gangs. there is nothing really, unless you are steadily following the mission there is nothing to do and no one to fight. and whenever i do get a wanted level or whatever i constantly find myself being shot at and i can not even figure out who is shooting at me or where they are because it is permanently night and everything is just dark and blends in. the super powers constantly make me overshoot everything and i am constantly having to try to correct my movement and i cant keep track of where i was trying to land. there are a bunch of mini side games that i have to do and a lot of them i flat do not like at all. yes EVERY mission you are given is like half way across the map which is just a cheap way to add time to the game and you run all the way across the map and back over and over again. AND they even managed to mess the radio stations up, my favorite station The Mix is hip hop songs now every time i flip to it. i dont like hip hop, and if i wanted to hear it i would listen to the multiple hip hop stations in the game. why did they take my 80s station away or that is turn it into yet another hip hop station. and yes vehicles are usless in this game because you have super powers to travel. Homies are basically useless because they cant keep up and there are no rival gangs to fight anyway. this is a Saints Row game with out gangs, isnt that the whole point of the series? gang battles.
I was sooooo excited about SR4!! When I saw that you were the president, I was like hell yeah! We’re gonna have secret service homies and do top secret missions and fight gangs from different countries and stuff like that! Then I saw aliens come along and send us to a simulation and they were talking about Earth was destroyed and I was like “Wow…..they COMPLETELY fucked this up smh.” lmao
For the average gangster game, GTA pretty much got us covered, but Saints Row gave us the extra. For extra being extra, SR4 is just fine for me. One of the best super-hero/ gangster games ever (even though there's no competition).
I prefer IV to The Third to be honest. 3 is probably my least favorite game of the series (that I played at least, not gonna bother with the "reboot" at all. All the information about it out there is enough.)
As much as people would've preferred Volition instead make a proper SR4 we saw what happened when they tried with SR 2022. As not great as SR4 was at least it wasn't SR2022.
I know this game isnt perfect but for me personally i put this game 1. SR2 2. SRIV 3. SR 4. SR3 The reason why is i legitimately cared about these characters by the end of the story. Johnny Gat,Pierce,Shaundi,Matt Miller,Kinzie,Asha,Ben King, and Keith David were such an awesome group to hangout with and the fact each and everyone of them had a Superpower Form was so awesome but the best thing about it was the ability to get classic Characters from SR1 and SR2 like Maero and even fan Favorite SR2 Shaundi and the mission where modern day Shaundi meets her past version is so awesome. Keith David subsversion of the betrayal of Julius was great to see too. The ending dance sequence is the icing on the cake for the OG franchise.
I couldn't disagree more, but to each their own. I don't wanna write an essay so i'll try to keep it short, they reused a lot of content in the nightmare missions but it felt well done every time. Also killing Johnny in 3 was an awful decision, bringing him back was definitely the right choice and the method they chose fits right in with the insanity of the game. I think my biggest gripe with the game is Kinzie and Matt being the only characters from 3 that have a major presence, i almost hate 3 but it introduced some cool characters like Oleg and Zimos.
@@natvelo i can't really argue with you, it's been almost a decade since i played 3 so i might just be nostalgic for some things including Zimos and i might not really remember him being annoying
Saint Row 4 had the excuse of pushing the silliness beyond SRIII, meaning it was intentional and grating to play if you don't like it. It was also not too common back then, meaning it was original relative to the sea of realisim and browness. The Reboot had all the opportunities to try and become a mix of SR2 and SRIII we've all wished for, and yet they leaned too far into the new gen humor that people are already tired of for over for the last half decade. The characters were barely written with any thought or understanding of how actual people in a comedy would react.
For me SR4 is one of the best game ever. Boy, where on earth can you find black hole gun? or annihilator gun? or dubstep gun which makes everyone dance, even cars? this is the best game ever
I actually had fun with it. I think messing around in the open world with super powers was fun. But I also never felt like replaying it ever again, so...
I'm surprised zero punctuation Yahtzee the guy who rips apart most games he has ever reviewed straight up gueshed for this game. Just a few years back I bought Saints Row 1/2 Just because of the amazingly high praise he gave the Saints Row 2. And then he shat all over Saints Row 3. In conclusion I have no conclusion, I just don't enjoy early UA-cam internet reviewers into the 2020s. Maybe I grew up maybe they got worse, maybe both
The only good thing I can say about this game and everything related to it is it's references to past games and character interactions with them I hated gat out of hell but I love the lore they had for characters from the previous games
The driving in saints row 4 sucked. I remember the driving getting worse as the games went on. Although I don't remember much if saints row 3. But the vehicles and driving system were awful and the standard movement system was fun. But both could have been fun. Cars definitely needed some kind of super power to compete with it. Like a jump and some kind of rocket boost.
As someone who's 100%'d Saint's Row 2 more times than I can count I can confidently say it wasn't a bad game by any means. After seeing where the series went, I would've preferred they continue the story after killing Zinyak as opposed to a full Reboot. If you enjoyed the Reboot then more power to you, I just felt disrespected after I tried to play it lmao
Saints Row IV is a very good game. Much better than SR3. It's the best game with superpowers on the market. And even with all those crazy alien stuff, it still had more of the Saints Row charm, tone and humor than SR3 had. Sandbox is great, activities are great, missions are great and dialogues are great. Characters are also much better compared to SR3.
It's first saint row game i played one of my favourite game of alltime its just so much fun to play for me try 3 and that bullet sponge enemies i don't like that but 2 is way awesome than 3.
Your review is spot on. I get it, if you never played a Saints Row game prior to this one, you would probably have a great time playing it. But for me, who absolutely loved Saints Row 2 and had a lot of fun with 3, Saints Row 4 was such a terrible experience I couldn't even finish the game. I gave up near the end.
I'm a fan of the OG. games I even liked 3 although it was kinda short and muted (not much wording like in 2 which was filled with ridiculous talks and coments) but since I saw a preview lets play of the 4th part back then, I was WTF is that shit? Would've they made the Prime project the series would've been way better going on, if I want some BS super power or ailien Shyte I'd play games that have that. I want a game that doesn't play after the rules, a game that has dark humor and makes fun on stereotypes, clichés, sexuality and politics with over exaggerating. THAT was what made SR better entertaining than GTA (which tried to be a more serious role play) I nerver played the Reboot I was in gooesbumps and high hopes, but as I saw the Desert, that was the 1st bad sign and the PC woke shyte destroyed the last remaining piece of hope. If they only would get SR back to the roots pick up at the 3rd and get Gat back like said with the clone story. But THQ is history and Violation too so who knows if there will ever be another SR.
Anything after 2 is trash, the things that put 4 over 3 are gameplay and customization. Saints Row the Third had lacked substance and everyone's character took a nosedive in quality, except for Pierce and Gat, Oleg was the only good new character. SRTT was also horrible with minigames disguised as main/sidequests, think of the missions Kinzie, Zimos, and Angel give you before moving forward with the story. Steelport was also a garbage open world city.
As someone who never played a saints row game before this one, it's a very fun game. Definitely nothing bad on its own. But I can see why SR fans hate it

20:16 I’m gonna be honest that’s kinda funny I was expecting it where you’d have to do the mini game regardless if you’ve completed them at all
i like open world games and i like to screw around and not just follow the missions. in 2 i could spend hours just roaming around in rival gangs territory and fighting, in this fame there are no rival gangs. there is nothing really, unless you are steadily following the mission there is nothing to do and no one to fight. and whenever i do get a wanted level or whatever i constantly find myself being shot at and i can not even figure out who is shooting at me or where they are because it is permanently night and everything is just dark and blends in. the super powers constantly make me overshoot everything and i am constantly having to try to correct my movement and i cant keep track of where i was trying to land. there are a bunch of mini side games that i have to do and a lot of them i flat do not like at all. yes EVERY mission you are given is like half way across the map which is just a cheap way to add time to the game and you run all the way across the map and back over and over again.
I am sure Volition will fix things in the next Saints Row and then not get the entire studio closed down...
I bought it for $6 nowadays. It's definitely worth it for that price. But while I think you make some good points I find it to be very enjoyable.
I actually prefer saints row 4, I love the aliens and the super powers but that's that's like your opinion man
Saints Row 2(original) will always be my favorite
There is only one saints row 2
I love this game but at the same time you're not wrong , Plus I've only ever played SR4 & Gat out of hell so I'm not exactly a hardcore SR purist
Where is Chop Shop in this? I've been thru this game a handful of times and have never seen that activity anywhere. What am I missing?
I remember really liking this game when i was 12. Picked it up for $3 or so on the series X 2 days ago and boy... it wasnt as good as I remembered.
I know this game isnt perfect but for me personally i put this game 1. SR2 2. SRIV 3. SR 4. SR3
The reason why is i legitimately cared about these characters by the end of the story.
I think my biggest gripe with the game is Kinzie and Matt being the only characters from 3 that have a major presence, i almost hate 3 but it introduced some cool characters like Oleg and Zimos.
i love sr3 but zimos is possibly the most annoying and just cringe character in gaming
@@natvelo i can't really argue with you, it's been almost a decade since i played 3 so i might just be nostalgic for some things including Zimos and i might not really remember him being annoying
I’m replaying it now after playing thru 2 and 3 and I’m having an absolute blast. If you don’t take it serious it’s so much fun
Hella disagree on this one. Respect for the amount of time, work n research that go into these though.
i got saints row 4 and yet i feel like i still got ripped off
Saint Row 4 had the excuse of pushing the silliness beyond SRIII, meaning it was intentional and grating to play if you don't like it.
I didn't play the 1st game, but I played 2-4. Loved 4 and have fond memories of it simply because of how fun and over the top it was.
33:17 What is this game ?
Planet of Lana, would recommend!
I prefer SR2, but collecting 1,000 clusters flies by when you're playing the game in co-op so I don't see the problem.
I feel like if they didn't call it saints row it wouldn't have been so bad
Tell me you like the remake without telling me
I actually had fun with it. I think messing around in the open world with super powers was fun. But I also never felt like replaying it ever again, so...
SR4 is a perfect SR if we compare it to the 2022 version... and now we see that not only I think so, Embracer agreed :)
5:22 its gold!
Very great analysis
Ironically exactly how you explained who might like it is how i found the game. But once i played saints row 2 i couldn't enjoy 3 or 4 ever again
I thought it was intended to be saints row 1 remake not saints row 4.
Saints row 4 is a masterpiece compared to the reboot lol 😆
Saints row 4 is a fun and good game. But it's not a good saints row game.
Maybe I grew up maybe they got worse, maybe both
Theres no reason to complain about this one when the reboot exists. Lol. Sr4 is great
I still haven’t finished it.
The only good thing I can say about this game and everything related to it is it's references to past games and character interactions with them I hated gat out of hell but I love the lore they had for characters from the previous games
Also it should be noted that every single game you recommend we should play instead is a console exclusive. I play on PC, so...
I loved this game. Shure it’s no saints row 2 but if you forget that exists and this wasn’t named saints row it’s a solid game that holds up
I think it's a very fun gand
The driving in saints row 4 sucked. I remember the driving getting worse as the games went on. Although I don't remember much if saints row 3.
But the vehicles and driving system were awful and the standard movement system was fun. But both could have been fun. Cars definitely needed some kind of super power to compete with it. Like a jump and some kind of rocket boost.
11 DAYS LATE SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I’m I the only person who likes this game.
I bloody love this game 😅
@@CbaDropDead I’m happy I’m not alone .
(:
I also like the game for what it is, a pretty good otp superhero game, it's just not a good Saints Row game.
I Absolutely loved saints row 3 but yea saint's Row 4 is a bit weird
If you are disappointed with Saints Row 4 i hope you never play the Saints Row reboot from 2022.
Comment for engagement
2:36 you can also drive cars like in a bunch of other open world games. This game is soooooooooo generic😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Saints row 4 is just a lot of dumb fun lol
I feel bad for sacrificing your brain cells for this game.. and saints row 3..
3:34a.m. 6/30/2023
dubstep gun
all the reason i love the game sm
Saints Row 4 is my favorite in the franchise. It's just fun. That's all.
it is fun
not a good sr game but fun
Saints Row 4 is perfect🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Saints Row IV is a very good game. Much better than SR3. It's the best game with superpowers on the market. And even with all those crazy alien stuff, it still had more of the Saints Row charm, tone and humor than SR3 had. Sandbox is great, activities are great, missions are great and dialogues are great. Characters are also much better compared to SR3.
Hi
Sorry but no saints row is nit only the best of the franchise but its one of the most fun games ever created in general
How it's rated higher than 3 is beyond me. I treat it as a saints row 3 expansion.
I enjoyed this game
It's first saint row game i played one of my favourite game of alltime its just so much fun to play for me try 3 and that bullet sponge enemies i don't like that but 2 is way awesome than 3.
I actually enjoy saints four because it feels like a parody.
Saints Row 4 is fun af. A blatant rip off of the Matrix is fun af.
The best open world supervillain game!
I'm a fan of the OG. games I even liked 3 although it was kinda short and muted (not much wording like in 2 which was filled with ridiculous talks and coments)
but since I saw a preview lets play of the 4th part back then, I was WTF is that shit?
Would've they made the Prime project the series would've been way better going on,
if I want some BS super power or ailien Shyte I'd play games that have that.
I want a game that doesn't play after the rules, a game that has dark humor and makes fun on stereotypes,
clichés, sexuality and politics with over exaggerating.
THAT was what made SR better entertaining than GTA (which tried to be a more serious role play)
I nerver played the Reboot I was in gooesbumps and high hopes,
but as I saw the Desert, that was the 1st bad sign and the PC woke shyte destroyed the last remaining piece of hope.
If they only would get SR back to the roots pick up at the 3rd and get Gat back like said with the clone story.
But THQ is history and Violation too so who knows if there will ever be another SR.
Personal opinion: 4 is such a good saints game. Not perfect but 🤷♀️
I loved this game bro 😭 this one and sr2 were the best
I really liked this game.
Steelport was also a garbage open world city.
it s still fun tho
Bad take. You must be a fan of the reboot
