I played the dog one after my childhood dog passed away from heat stroke. I was so depressed and heart broken that I wanted to play something with dogs in it to make the pain fade. Petz Dogz 2 and The Dog Island did that for me. Literally. She was a rottweiler, so I made the dog in my playthrough of Dogz 2 a rottweiler as well. It helped to think she was on a pretty island somewhere, defending the world from monsters with a cute magic hat. I love this game. 💖

This game (and the Dog one) was marketed as "The Puppy/Kitten and the Magic Hat" in Japan, and over there they were honest about what it was. Then the US went "Eh, let's just ride off the success of the Petz franchise and act like it's the same as those games." Ironic, considering the whole plot and gameplay were riding on the success of The Dog Island

This is like when Ubisoft was making Sea Dogs 2 and they repurposed it into the Pirates of Caribbean because they had the license to it. There’s no way in hell somebody came up with a dragon boss fight for a pet simulator and then had somebody actually make the fight without thinking about what they were doing
In France and Japan, the game released under a name that roughly translated to "The Dog/Cat and the magic hat". However, for whatever reason, when Ubisoft brought the game to english speaking countries, they decided to rebrand the game as part of the "Petz" series for no reason.

I used to play Petz Catz 2 way back when for the DS, and tonight I felt like looking up its soundtrack. Right before I hit enter, I noticed that one suggestion I just mentioned, got real confused at animals wearing hats in an open world, and searched for a review. The end result? An incredible video, with style and real life laughing-levels of hilarity. Your hidden gem of a channel earned itself a sub.

This game traumatized little baby me with snakes, lava, and frostbite. My brother had to play it for me. All I wanted was a pet sim, and I was upset about the false advertising at the time. Catching the animals and dressing up was fun tho.

I remember when i played this game with a friend we laughed at just how many languages there were and how it would have been amazing if they recorded dogs barking differently in each one. It would have been the most agorable waste of money ever.
I enjoyed the cat version of the game but felt it lacked by not giving the cats their own story and gameplay which is a shame because there are extra mechanics they could have used for the cat such as climbing, scratching, they can also crawl into pretty tight places. Seems like the developer just made the cat version just to appease the cat lovers but they honestly could have made a good game if they just put in a little effort.
