There's still a huge community that plays these games! They're freeware at this point so you can find them super easy and people hex really unique breedz and creatures (I learned how to hexcode at 12 because of this game.) I don't play it all the time but I've always got it on hand to get them sweet nostalgia serotonins. 🤣
Gosh I played the crap out of these games. When I was watching this video all I could think was "THE ORIGINAL PETZ GAMES WERE BETTER IN EVERY SINGLE WAY THAN ANY OF THESE." The AI was very very good and the wild things you could get from breeding was amazing. I always made tons of catz based on different fictional characters, and it was enormously entertaining, haha.
petz catz 2 is so different from 1!! Its got this whole like. story arc and a really cool beach level theme and its also 3D! I reccomend the wii version because it is janky as hell! I lived on it as a kid.
I had both versions for Playstation 2. My younger sister and I played it so much. She was the first to finish the game as it took me a few years to overcome my fear of the difficult enemies just enough to slowly sneak past them with my heart pounding in my chest. (The bears, cobras, enemies that didn't sleep or had a wide detection range, and don't get me started on the vultures and bats, jumpscares in a non-scary game).
There's technically a prequel(?) to petz catz/dogz 2, its The Dog Island, also on wii! Its the same models, gameplay and mood as the petz ones, only without cats ;w; .
Petz horsez 2 was crazy because it had a storyline and everything. it wasnt even usually about horses but about the disappearance of a stable owner and the fear of the mayor getting rid of said stable. like yeah you rode and trained horses, but the story was mostly focused on mystery
Look up Pippa Funnel games! Petz horses 2 is actually an entry in this series. I think it has different names in different countries. They all follow mysteries based in different horse related settings, and the same characters show up across different games
@@salthesalmonshark6849It's much more somber and emotional than I remember it being. In a way it's become emotional to me not just because of how it sounds, but also because it takes me back to a time and era in my life that's no longer there. As if we're no longer kittens and we've all become the grown up and strong cat.
I’m so happy you’re talking about one of the greatest JRPGs of our time: Dogz 2. Def recommend The Dog Island game too! It feels like an expanded version of this game, better written too!
I’m not sure if these two games are related, but the art style is the exact same as THE DOG™️ ISLAND for the Wii. I can’t work out if they are in the same in game universe or if Ubisoft just reused the sprites
Both games were huge parts of my childhood. The most noticeable difference between them is how differently dark they are. Dogz 2 had some dark fantasy vibes with the antagonist (his transformations scared the heck out of child me), but the dog island dealt with subjects of death, loss, grief, ptsd. like the protagonist goes out on a journey in a desperate attempt to find a cure for their dying sibling. It's a total emotional roller-coaster.
@@Sloth21They're both developed by a Japanese company called Yuke's, and as far as I can tell Petz Dogz 2 was sold as a sequel in Japan. Its Japanese title is "The Puppy and the Magic Hat," and, like with a lot of the Imagine games, its English release was just Ubisoft re-purposing it as an unrelated title.
the dog island is my favorite childhood game, i thought i was going crazy watching this because i'd never seen petz dogz 2 before. seeing the dog island dog models without the massive heads is so weird 😭
Shoutout to the poor cats (and tigers) who will never roam free and escape past the metal bars of the Precious Petz Pound due to being deemed un-adoptable by the cruel mistress that is Dream Jelly. Bless their little hearts💔
My boyfriend did the same thing with games as a kid. Didnt know he could save. Every time he would restart and then hope he could get past where he did last time from the beginning
Oh man I feel that... I played Legend of Zelda: Spirit tracks on DS when I was little. When I started the game my older sister's bestfriend was visiting, so she saved my game for me cause I didnt know English. Well, I still didn't know how to save on my own, idk why I didn't ask my dad (who is a gamer) for help or literally anyone??? What did I do instead? I kept playing without closing the game or powering off the DS FOR TWO WEEKS until I saw sisters bestie again so she could save for me... Dedication
I had dolphinz as a kid- after a few minutes of playing, I couldn’t figure out at all how to progress after a certain point, so I got really upset and never picked it up again 😅
Petz Dogz/Catz 2 for the Wii/PS2 is actually a completely different game to the DS port, which isn’t too surprising. What is surprising, and what I have always been puzzled about, is that the game was actually released in Japan first and wasn’t even a Petz title. Instead, it was called “Nyanko/Wanko to Mahou no Boushi”, or roughly “Kitten/Puppy and the Magic Hat” and is a lot like another game, The Dog Island. The Dog Island was made for Artlist Collection: The Dog, which is a 2000s franchise from Japan that mostly revolves around photographs of animals (usually dogs) taken with a fisheye lens that made their heads look exaggeratedly large and bobblehead-like. That is the entire franchise, which mostly sold prints and calendars. Then they made a game, I guess. The most notable things from this franchise to appear in the US are mostly only The Dog Island and some Happy Meal exclusive plushies, as far as I’m aware. Nyanko to Mahou no Boushi is as far as I know, unrelated to The Dog Island beyond gameplay and both games sharing Yuke as a developer. I don’t know why they made a game almost identical in gameplay to The Dog Island beyond maybe convenience, unless the game was very successful in Japan. My guess on why it was called “Petz Dogz/Catz 2” outside of Japan though, is that people simply didn’t know what “Puppy/Kitten and The Magic Hat” was and they were more likely to buy something from a franchise they knew and that Ubisoft already owned- Petz. Still though, I find it somewhat of an interesting rabbithole that I can’t find much about. To this day I wonder every now and then why they basically made a spiritual successor to such an obscure game that was by a franchise that only revolves around fisheye lens pictures of animals and is little known in the US. Anyway, I know too much about this, hopefully someone found this interesting because I have no one to tell about this weird niche thing that I wish I had more info on
I could NOT stop staring and thinking abt my childhood of playing The DOG Island for the Wii, so at minimum *I* appreciate your post and random knowledge. So thanks
My guess is that Yuke was going to make an official sequel to The Dog Island but for whatever reason the licensing deal fell through while the new game was still in development. Rather than scrap a perfectly serviceable game, they changed some things and released it as their own IP to try and make back the money they spent on it. For example, I've heard that Tails Adventure was originally going to be a Disney property (Disney did have a bunch of old school games back in the day) so they just scrubbed it clean and made it a Solo with Tails since it wouldn't have made any sense for Sonic. Also, apparently SatAM wasn't supposed to be Sonic, people have posted initial concept art of something different, but I guess DiC got a request for another cartoon that wasn't AoStH so they did a reversal, dropped the new IP and instead continued development turning it into a franchise (presumably this means that AoStH would've been green-lit for another season but I guess someone changed their mind before THAT series finished production, it got cancelled but they still needed to produce it because it was already paid for, which is why it feels a bit rushed, only has one season, and then a Christmas Special years later.) There's more to it all I just can't think at the moment. Going back to video games, then of course Ubisoft probably did what you suggested, adding another weird layer lol. But yeah! I find stuff like this very interesting. Thanks for sharing. :D
Honestly, "not originally a Petz game" is par for the course. A lot of these are obviously Japanese or even European titles renamed for the American market, just like with the Imagine series.
What's been on my mind the most with Petz over the years is why tf do the parents' personalities change to fraidy-cat after you exit the game and go back into it? I've looked online, nothing. I've asked online, everyone ignores me.
I actually worked on the Horsez game for DS that you talk about here and, despite it being a tiny speck on my work history from such a long time ago, I’m kind of proud to see you give it such a (relatively) high rating :P
I was so sad she didn't pick Petz Dolphin Encounter to play in the exotic section!!! It's the best out of the whole exotics in my opinion! It had a wild story line about pollution and underwater exploration segments with amazing settings. You could scan different animals and learn about them, treat them for injuries caused by the antagonist in the story, and play with them as well! You travelled all over the world with the story and learned about the different underwater flora and fauna there. Collected ingredients to use in medicines for the healing segments and a ton more I cannot remember. I played the crap out of it as a kid over and over again! Genuinely a great experience for the time of overpopulated DS games.
No no, that was definitely 100% Petz Dolphinz Encounter! I also played it and remember all the exact same things. I even got my hands on another copy recently just bc i missed it so much ^^;
I played hamsterz life and made it my life’s goal as a kid to collect all the different types of cages and things that they could interact with, it was like gambling how addictive not knowing when the next rare thing you’d get would be LOL
I remmeber playing Petz Catz Clan as a kid! There's an obstacle course that you can play in order to unlock items. You can also umlock new foods. There's also a way to bathe them. I'd play for hours as a kid. If you get the cats friendship up enough via throwing toys around, they can have a kitten! It even has a genetics system. Catz Clan is actually also a reskin of Monkeyz House.
I loved Petz Catz Clan!! I was truely unhinged playing it... I would save just before the cats would reach max friendship level so that I could reboot the game if I didnt get the kitten I wanted 💀 And I remember being distraught at times because of how some kittens would be really cute but would grow into ugly cats...
I had Petz Dogz Pack, which was probably the same thing. I also had Dogz, and Petz Dogz 2 for the DS, which is NOTHING like the Wii version 😂. I just loves these games as a kid
Omg I'm not the only one who had and remembers Catz Clan! I loved it when I had it and used it to remake all the cats that I'd had that passed away up until that point in my life - you know, effectively making them immortal in a way. Man I should find that cartridge.
can i just say the catz ds theme was so unecessarily emotional, for some reason it just made me feel a very bittersweet feeling, like id start crying when i listened to it when i was younger 😭😭😭
the catz ds ost was unnecessarily amazing honestly; the "Night 1" theme always makes me tear up, it's actually really beautiful sounding 😭 the ost is also cool considering it was composed by Jake Kaufman, who composed the soundtracks for Shovel Knight, Shantae and Ducktales Remastered, so no wonder it's so good LOL
I just went to go look up the theme to see what you were talking about, and I agree. Bonus points for the amount of people talking about how it sounds like an Alex G song 😂
Same OST as the PC version from 2006 too!! The gameplay on that is slightly different from the DS. I got it on a CD in a Wendy's kids meal as a child and played the heck out of it
The Catz song slaps so hard. With catz, you can unlock rooms where the kittens do parcoor to the top. Also dogz 2 for the D is where I learned poker, for kids
Petz Dogz 2 is really interesting. It is nearly an exact copy of The Dog Island which released about 7 months before it. They are both made by the same studio, Yuke’s.
So was Petz Catz 2! It's fascinating how the Wii and PS2 version weren't pet care simulator while the PC and DS versions were. I had it on the Wii, it wasn't a pet care simulator but an adventure game, it was such an experience. I would definitely recommend playing it!!
Ok so the best part of catz clan, monkeyz house, and dogz pack was the fact that you could actually breed the adult petz and the genetics would actually mix which was my favorite thing to do as a kid playing those games, I would like invent my own dog breeds and stuff
I feel like you're the only person on yt that covers stupid/terrible/nostalgic games that no one cares about now, I was so happy to see the upload. Devastated that you didn't check out Petz Catz 2 on DS cause that's the one I'm ashamed to say I played a lot in my youth, which is definitely the most BROKEN and UGLY of the Catz games.
It’s wild looking back and seeing how awful it looks now that I’m older I thought it was like peak realism for some reason idk what was going on with my child eyes
Fun fact, in Hamsterz life, all the different hamster breeds speak differently. Some talk like a US southerner, and there was one of them that used uwu speak. I actually got a hamster because of that game, and she was a big comfort for me while my dad was overseas.
I loved hamsterz life. You can win some insane furniture, different cage styles, and clothes. My favorite was a roller coaster they could ride on! You can teach them tricks and language. They start out speaking baby talk, and they eventually speak normally. The mini games are so much fun!
Oh yeah the roller coaster and they would say different things depending on the time and even day. I remember the hamster can say "happy birthday" on your birthday. I have to see if I can get another copy of that game because that section of this video made me very nostalgic to the hamster game.
The PC Catz and Dogz were some of my favorite games asa kid! THis year, I was listening to one of my favorite bands, Nada Surf, and I found out they did the iconic and adorable theme song for Catz, "Meow Meow Lullaby". Needles to say I bawled my eyes out hearingg that after almost a decade - it brought back so many memories!
I had Petz Nursery 2 and it was really similar to the bunny game played. You first adopt a little baby animal (start off with dogs and cats and I think you unlock other breeds and animals) and take care of it in the nursery room, then when it gets older it moves to the play room. The babies and the older pets also have different mini games and tasks you can play so it actually kept it pretty interesting. Unlike the bunny game, if you have multiple pets in one room they interact with each other and it's really cute. I still have the game and play it time to time
yesssss the petz catz/dogz 2 adventure rpgs!!!!!!!! a childhood favorite of mine, theyre lowkey good for no reason i had catz 2, which i feel makes sense having a wolf as the antagonist lol once youre done rebuilding the town, you go after the wolf and the world expands a lot very suddenly, the beginning is by far the worst part
I really like the first part of the game, mainly because it has an interesting narrative importance as your character is being made to do community service. Like thinking on it now, I've never played a game where my character was actually held responsible for their actions and made to make up for their actions. I saw it as a good way of world building, specifically the community that the character lives in. It's a good teaching experience for kids to learn about responsibilities imo. Also my sister and I replayed the game so many times that we could just blast through that part
I loved the adventure as a kid, getting to explore new areas (the caves always freaked me out with their ominous music). Also, sniffing and digging up items awakened the completionist in me, lol
26:11 I had that game! In terms of the holding hamster thing, you could do that in the bigger space to carry your hamster around and find gifts! Only a few appeared each IRL day. I also had Dolphinz for the DS and absolutely loved it, there was so much depth in that one and it could be genuinely challenging at times.
The modding communities for the original petz games aren't as strong as they used to be, but there are still tons of websites and forums with links to download new breeds, toys, and scenes. The pets were charming and had plenty of personality. My activity of choice back in the day was creating abominations through breeding or using a hex editor to customize my own petz. If you can find it somewhere, I urge anyone who hasn't to give them a try.
Omg I played catz on computer as a kid, I was so obsessed with them 😭 I was wondering what happened to them! Growing flowers with 5 weird coloured cats twitching around the screen was such peak gameplay
in my opinion, petz fantasy felt like their magnum opus. so much freedom and flair in their character design and game concept- i adored the game so much as a little girl that i recently repurchased the game cartridge to play from scratch💗
Petz Dogs 2 for the wii was one of my favorite games when I was a child. The music is the best. I liked fishing. Still fish all day in stardew valley. 10/10
Horsez/Imagine Champion Rider till this day is one of my most favourite games! I adored the storyline of Lily needing to save the mustangs and I loved the taming and competitions gameplay
As a kid I loved animal games and my Nintendo DS. I almost have the full petz collection for the DS. Most of them are okay, but when I was little I had a lot of joy with them. But no petz game beats the classic pc versions. It felt so nostalgic.
the petz community for the pc game is still super active to this day, as well as the babyz community! they're amazing and keeping these nostalgic games alive, not to mention making amazing modded petz and babyz that would blow your mind!
oh btw since you didn't mention it -- Petz Catz DS had a pink-and-white cat implied to be an alien cat in its shelter description. I remember playing it as a kid and excitedly adopting that cat hoping cool easter egg stuff would happen but nah, it's just a normal cat aside from being pink.
obsessed with the fun graphics in this video!! i can tell these videos take a lot of time & effort with researching and editing and i appreciate it sm💗
I loved Petz Hamsterz Life 2 as a kid, and it's very different from the first one. There's this huge storyline where you're training your hamster to be the best at all the competitions, and each of the side characters has their own background. It's much more focused on the actual care and training of your hamster, less on the minigames, with most of them being the competitions. You can actually effect the results of the competition instead of just watching too. And you train them by trying new stuff. So poking your hamster can teach them a trick, but so can feeding them a treat.
I'm sad you didn't cover the Catz gameboy game!! Literally my favorite game ever. I've definitely replayed it as an adult and was honestly surprised at the replay-ability? Each play through had more options for adoption at the start of the game and you could mold your cat to get different story outcomes. It's so nostalgic!
Same!! I was confused when the Catz game for the DS looked so different than I remembered because I never realized that the GBA Catz game and DS Catz games were so totally different!
petz fantasy was my CHILDHOOD. petz fantasy ds is quite different from 3ds! and it's marginally better, I'd say. you're able to unlock different outfits through QR codes or completing challenges; the food minigame requires you to draw in a food's picture, the water minigame is the same, and the basketball minigame is actually a little hard and requires a bit of timing, as the pet moves around until you throw the toy you need to find three favorite items of a pet (one food, one washing item, one toy,) to gain the chance to go into a minigame. if you beat the minigame, you can either go through the second tier of favorite items or pick a new egg pet! the pet also has a mood meter! if the mood meter goes all the way down, you play a game where you have to calm down your pet before the MC's parents come home. you can only lower this meter by picking disliked iems outlined in *red* in the selection screens. PETZ FANTASY 3DS is a disservice to the original DS games
Horsez 2 "traumatized" me when I was little because if you left your stable at some point during the story one of the characters commits arson on your barn. You then have to put it out and solve some kind of timed puzzle. The responsibility of the life of my horses burning alive scared me so much as a kid I would always cry and make my sister do the segment and I'd refuse to leave the area in fear that it would happen again lol. I don't remember much about the plot or characters itself but I always vividly remember that moment. A couple years ago I decided to avenge my horses and continued one of my old saves to finally complete the story myself. I should replay it again from the start to really see if it was exactly how I remembered or if little me exaggerated everything.
Petz Bunnyz was a game I would play over and over and over Idk why it was so replayable to me as a kid. Maybe it was all the different breeds you could get, or the cosmetics, the minigames, the room you could explore and find prizes in. It seems similar to the Hampsterz one she played but she didn't go in depth with that one enough for me to tell if it was exact or if Bunnyz had more features. I still love it to this day, I have an emulator for it on my phone. It's super peaceful and you can customize the cage for your bunny and place its toys inside. The only downside is you can only play with one bunny at a time. I wish all my bunnys could play together.
I would Love to see you do a deep dive/exploration video of the original PF Magic Petz games! Petz 4/5 was my very favourite game as a child, and the community, especially modders of the game (despite its age), are very much still alive :D
I second that. They are legit good, and I've replayed them maybe 6-8 years ago as an adult and I enjoyed them tremendously. They really felt like independent real animals
bruh. i was obsessed with the adventure Petz 2 wii game and ive been looking for it for over a decade, since i didnt own it myself, my friends did. thank you SO MUCH for covering these games!!
I spent so much time playing that Hamsterz game. There's a bunch of super fancy cages/toys you can get for the hamster. Years later, we actually have several real hamsters, and I'd say the movement of the hamsters in the game was pretty accurate lol.
I remember desperately wanting to get on the family computer everyday after playing outside just to play the catz game. While I don’t have any recollection of the game itself, the theme song is forever stuck in my head. I also had one of the toys where a cat was stuck rolling on a big red ball.
Petz Dolphinz Encounter was surprisingly amazing, you played the role of a scuba diver and went around the oceans helping rescue endangered animals and discovering underwater environments. I'm also very fond of the art style for Endangered Paradise, and it has a lovely story about the dangers wild animals face in our modern world. I'd love to see a part 2 to this video, I've heard the other Petz 2 games are pretty decent!
I love how this series of games started as a desktop toy for people who worked on a computer to not get bored only to become all this. Like from software for 40yo cat lady secretaries to around 50 kids games
I have a bone to pick with Petz: Dolphins. My first ever video game was Dolphin Island and for years I couldn't find ANYTHING about it online. No wiki, walkthroughs, trailers etc. I only found out recently that the reason why there were no search results for Dolphin Island is because it was the title of the PAL version of Petz: Dolphins and barely anyone documented that fact
your videos genuinely make me happy :) I like just hearing a random stranger talk about things they love. I grew up in a cult and never had access to all of this content when i was younger, but watching your videos and seeing you just ramble about stuff fills that weird childhood itch. So thanks :)
when ubisoft took over, they basically didnt MAKE the games, they just took small already made japanese games, translated them and then published them as their own, which is why theyre all so different to each other. i dont know if thats what they did for the imagine series but... i imagine it is. theres also a question if they actually *bought* the rights to a lot of the games they published, or if the orginal games were just small enough to not be able to fight it
i hated pet care sim games as a kid but i was OBSESSED with hamsterz life. there's a surprising amount of stuff you can do in the game, like making a detailed list of family members and friends with icons chosen from a ridiculously long list and letting your hamster run around your characters room
I had catz 1 and 2 for the ds in a double pack and the second game was very similar to the first one I admit. But you were able to level up and unlock more outfits and accessories the more you played. You also unlocked new places and toys. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia but I thought it was pretty fun and a lot of options for a 2007 game
Hamsterz Life is the best one, in my opinion! Cute art and some fun mini-games! I remember replaying the game after many years and named my dwarf hamster “Sans,” lol
dont wanna feel left out so im also gonna leave a shout out for petz horses 2. the storyline and mystery is unlike anything else i played as a kid lol. but it does remind me of another horse game with a mystery plot line. their was a villainous male character and some secret about the mansion you were staying in that had to do with this puzzle based on playing cards.
In Germany, the first horsez game you played is known as part of the series "adventures on the horse ranch". I was so excited to see ma gurl Lilly again! Gosh, I need to replay this game so bad! :D Love your editing style by the way, it's always a pleasure to watch your videoz
Petz Horsez 2 was one of my favorite ps2 horse games as a horse girl growing up lol. It actually had a story, and the riding was really fun. You could just go explore pretty forests and beaches n stuff. I liked it so much, I bought another copy when mine got stuck in the loading screen lol
Ah yes. Very comfy memories of getting the Dogz+Catz cd-ROM from the scholastic book fair and spending months just scrolling between the rooms and painting my petz horrible colors. The hamster ds one years later wasn’t awful either.
Petz beach was my entire life in 2017 so the fact that its not here is sad (please play it i swear its good you can have cats, dogs, wolves, polar bears, dolphins, seal lions, other wild animals, a shell collection, a animal figure collection and the pets are all adorable and like in the bunny game you were upset you couldn’t have your pets play together but in this one they can, theres SOOO many accessories, and you can even play online with friend)
Jelly I think it every time that no one understands my childhood like you... I was JUST googling this game today.. actually crazy!! Great content as always :)
30:22 I wrote a simple Python script to test all possible combinations, and there are two (four if you count the duplicate numbers as separate) possible solutions that land you on exactly 119 3 + 3 + 20 + 38 + 55 and 20 + 20 + 15 + 27 + 37
I’m both glad you figured this out andddd a little embarrassed that I was struggling haha. This is why I’m a youtuber instead of a mathematician/tiger trainer :/
11:30 I played pet dogz 2 along with the dog island, and pet catz 2 as a kid and they all have a special place in my heart. Especially the dog island, I played that one through a few times even though its a really long and weirdly sad game for no reason.
Yo I still have Petz 5 installed on my Windows 11 PC today, I play sometimes but am mainly just happy to see it sitting on the desktop. This brings back so many good memories of playing it at school during breaks on the school computer lol. I always loved and chose my pet as a cat! I love cats! 🙂
oh i had pony beauty pageant AND crazy monkeys. i loved both of those games, i was very much a horse girl and i loved dressing the monkeys up in human clothes
Always excited to see more videos from you! VERY bewildered at the Dogz Wii game, however. A childhood favourite of mine, The Dog Island for Wii, has more or less the exact same mechanics, speech bubbles and dog models except styled to 'The Dog' franchise, so that was strange to see!! It must be the same devs. This is a great video topic though! :D!!
After your last video I looked into some background of these Ubisoft Published Games. They are developed by different developer but often they are reoccuring. Especially the ones by Japanese developers are interesting as they seem to be completely different series. Not even the Imagine or Petz series (which is often just under a different name in Europe etc), like completely different ones like Dogz 2 for the nintendo ds for example. This is also why the quality of all these games so heavily differ.
I’m so sad you didn’t pick Bunnyz 😭 that was my go-to DS game. My sister got one of the Hamsterz ones and was disappointed that it wasn’t like Bunnyz. She always tried to take my DS to play it 😂
That Catz theme song from 2006 used to make me cry. I had the PC version, which seems more involved than the DS one. I was obsessed with training my cats and getting good at the contests, which were lowkey hard if you weren’t properly trained.
i’m so glad you talked about petz2 and the one on the gba where you eat chocolate, it makes me so happy because when i was a kid i played those ( and dog island! ) and thought it was lost to time since i never remember the titles until recently 🥺
Just unlocked a memory for me! I had the Fantasyz moonlight one I don't really remember it, I just remembered trying to unlock more eggs and upgrade my pets lol
I was obsessed with pf magic mostly dogz and catz..but also babyz and odd ballz. I even still play dogz 3 now and then. It was and still is the coolest freeware out there (well its freeware now) but it was a game that you could go into and edit and make your own petz and toyz. Also, pf magic had a plush line as well! I still have my mutt somewhere 😂😂😂
I think I had one of the Catz DS games as a kid. I don't remember which one, but I remember spending 70% of the time cleaning the litter box and the other 30% trying to pet my cats. But they seemed continous disinterested in everything, so I shelved it quickly.
Hamsterz was my favorite game ever. I had the same hamster for many years until I sadly lost my game card. The hand thing is to help find prizes outside the cage :)
The work you've put into this video to make it so entertaining and charming is incredible, I'm in love! ;u; From the clipboard and all the little graphics you've cut out for it to ofc the room with the doors, everything is done with so much detail and creativity!! Adding the sims 2 sound effects is probably my fav little editing choice
i love this video!! i was obsessed with the petz games as a kid, i have soooo many for the DS. i also played dogz 2 on the PS2 and i remember loving that game so much, even tho it kind of scared me sometimes lol. also the music in dogz 2 goes so hard for no reason??? i think i’m going to play some of these games later and relive my childhood lol. thanks so much for all the effort jelly, this is really well done!!!
Catz 2 was one of my first DS games. I played Mario Kart on my dad’s DS before that but Catz 2 was the first game I had on my own DS. And I completely forgot about the theme song with the meows until I heard it in this video!
33:40 dude thank you so much you see I only managed to unlock the lemur once, and when I was a kid, I would restart the game all the time so once I restarted the game that meant I would have to unlock the lemur again, but I was never able to and I never knew why and that’s probably why because I didn’t know there were achievements now I do because of your video so thank you for that.
I used to be OBSESSED with Petz Cats 2 (same as Petz Dogs 2 just with cats lol). It was so surreal that I thought it was a fever game until I found it again as an adult😭 It gets SUPER wild later on. The final boss is like a weird wolf chimera mix, it's crazy for a "Petz" game
23:26 this one actually has a cute story with interesting and lovable characters and the most important (?) part of the game is collecting pony club cards on trail rides bc the dressage is super easy to finish quickly. iirc jumping was a NIGHTMARE tho
you’re literally one of my favorite creators in youtube! i rewatch your videos all the time and i’m so happy to see you’ve posted again! love your content, thank you for creating! 🫶🌙
I remember I used to play petz nursery 2 for the DS honestly the funnest game to me, you own multiple pets even own a tiger or penguins so much memories in that game omgg🥺🥺
The original pc games were amazing. I was obsessed with my little ball cats and dogs. They had such cute sounds and animations
There's still a huge community that plays these games! They're freeware at this point so you can find them super easy and people hex really unique breedz and creatures (I learned how to hexcode at 12 because of this game.) I don't play it all the time but I've always got it on hand to get them sweet nostalgia serotonins. 🤣
i had dogz, catz and babyz. i spent so much time playing them as a kid
i have petz 4, and i freakin LOVE playing it!!
Yea lol I remember having my cat be a ball and throwing it around and having it bounce on the screen 🤣
petz catz 2 is so different from 1!! Its got this whole like. story arc and a really cool beach level theme and its also 3D! I reccomend the wii version because it is janky as hell! I lived on it as a kid.
Yeah it’s the same as the Dogz 2 and I played it so much as a kid. It definitely sticks out from the rest
Played Petz Catz 2 on PS2 as a kid, that shit was jank on there too haha
I had both versions for Playstation 2. My younger sister and I played it so much. She was the first to finish the game as it took me a few years to overcome my fear of the difficult enemies just enough to slowly sneak past them with my heart pounding in my chest. (The bears, cobras, enemies that didn't sleep or had a wide detection range, and don't get me started on the vultures and bats, jumpscares in a non-scary game).
The DS version is great!! I beat every level of the course as a kid witch a lot of struggle lol
And the characters were kinda fun too. I loved Olivers relationship with the main character and his sister.
Look up Pippa Funnel games! Petz horses 2 is actually an entry in this series. I think it has different names in different countries. They all follow mysteries based in different horse related settings, and the same characters show up across different games
@@Meckolo The DS game that lets you find a unicorn near the end of the game is probably Horse Life!

As if we're no longer kittens and we've all become the grown up and strong cat.
If any of you were wondering, it's called "Meow Meow Lullaby" By Nada Surf
Call Me Kevin's video on The Dog Island is hilarious! I still can't believe the game let him use the name "Bitch"
the dog island is my favorite childhood game, i thought i was going crazy watching this because i'd never seen petz dogz 2 before. seeing the dog island dog models without the massive heads is so weird 😭
Shoutout to the poor cats (and tigers) who will never roam free and escape past the metal bars of the Precious Petz Pound due to being deemed un-adoptable by the cruel mistress that is Dream Jelly. Bless their little hearts💔
One of my first games was a petz game but I couldn’t figure out how to save so I just ended up replaying the tutorial over and over again 💀
This made me laugh so hard. It’s very peak “kid” behavior 😂
Omg... Was it a pet spa? Bc I had that exact experience
This is similar to some of the horsez games having different names depending on the countries as well
I actually worked on the Horsez game for DS that you talk about here and, despite it being a tiny speck on my work history from such a long time ago, I’m kind of proud to see you give it such a (relatively) high rating :P
What did you do on the game? That’s so cool that you worked on it!
Pretty sure you’re talking about petz rescue ocean patrol. I played the heck outta that when I was a kid and somehow still have the cartridge.
@@Fish-mc2gs you might be right. I think I still have mine too, I have to go look in storage for it
No no, that was definitely 100% Petz Dolphinz Encounter! I also played it and remember all the exact same things. I even got my hands on another copy recently just bc i missed it so much ^^;

I still have my copy of Dolphin Encounter, it's probably one of my fav DS games ❤❤❤
i LOVED hamsterz life. the claw machine, the outfits and decorations, and even the little book where you could make contacts and avatars omg 😭
I played hamsterz life and made it my life’s goal as a kid to collect all the different types of cages and things that they could interact with, it was like gambling how addictive not knowing when the next rare thing you’d get would be LOL
Yeees me too!! so glad to see others share the love for that game. ❤
I played it so hard as a kid
Horsez Horshoe Ranch is also a reskin
I had Petz Dogz Pack, which was probably the same thing. I also had Dogz, and Petz Dogz 2 for the DS, which is NOTHING like the Wii version 😂. I just loves these games as a kid
Omg I'm not the only one who had and remembers Catz Clan! I loved it when I had it and used it to remake all the cats that I'd had that passed away up until that point in my life - you know, effectively making them immortal in a way. Man I should find that cartridge.
YES I remember breeding them many many many times as a young kid and that was my favourite part
can i just say the catz ds theme was so unecessarily emotional, for some reason it just made me feel a very bittersweet feeling, like id start crying when i listened to it when i was younger 😭😭😭
I AM JUST A KITTEN 🗣️ HARDLY FIT MY MITTENS 🗣️😭‼️
the catz ds ost was unnecessarily amazing honestly; the "Night 1" theme always makes me tear up, it's actually really beautiful sounding 😭 the ost is also cool considering it was composed by Jake Kaufman, who composed the soundtracks for Shovel Knight, Shantae and Ducktales Remastered, so no wonder it's so good LOL
I just went to go look up the theme to see what you were talking about, and I agree. Bonus points for the amount of people talking about how it sounds like an Alex G song 😂
Same OST as the PC version from 2006 too!! The gameplay on that is slightly different from the DS. I got it on a CD in a Wendy's kids meal as a child and played the heck out of it
Recommend checking out the original song, the fade out is a purr

the fandom is still very much alive! definitely worth checking out :) everyone is super nice over here
The Catz song slaps so hard.
I remember showing my mom a puppy that was the result of a husky father and a chihuahua mother, and she was like "How did you create that abomination"

OMG SAME HAMSTERZ LIFE (AND HL 2) WERE SO FUNNNN
The horses one was everything. I was obsessed. It genuinely had me believing I could go out and tame wild horses.
I had a huge crush on the dude as a kid lol
I still have the game and play it time to time
ME TOO I love petz nursery idc
yesssss the petz catz/dogz 2 adventure rpgs!!!!!!!! a childhood favorite of mine, theyre lowkey good for no reason
i had catz 2, which i feel makes sense having a wolf as the antagonist lol
once youre done rebuilding the town, you go after the wolf and the world expands a lot very suddenly, the beginning is by far the worst part
Please tell me there’s combat
I really like the first part of the game, mainly because it has an interesting narrative importance as your character is being made to do community service. Like thinking on it now, I've never played a game where my character was actually held responsible for their actions and made to make up for their actions. I saw it as a good way of world building, specifically the community that the character lives in. It's a good teaching experience for kids to learn about responsibilities imo. Also my sister and I replayed the game so many times that we could just blast through that part
@happythekatt8419 there isn't much combat apart from throwing rocks, BUT it does have a final boss battle.
That makes a lot of sense, I’m glad there’s an actual function to the hand thing because I was so confused 😭
@@dreamyjelliescan you get any of these games on mobile?
I remember having Petz catz (2, I think--the one with the evil wizard) and being like, afraid of it for some reason.

The petz horsez games were my favourite as a child, since I was a horse girl
Omg I played catz on computer as a kid, I was so obsessed with them 😭 I was wondering what happened to them!
Growing flowers with 5 weird coloured cats twitching around the screen was such peak gameplay
Petz dogz 2 was my absolute favorite game as a kid!! I still listen to the music! Good to see someone playing it in 2024!!!
in my opinion, petz fantasy felt like their magnum opus. so much freedom and flair in their character design and game concept- i adored the game so much as a little girl that i recently repurchased the game cartridge to play from scratch💗
Petz Dogs 2 for the wii was one of my favorite games when I was a child. The music is the best. I liked fishing. Still fish all day in stardew valley. 10/10
The petz to stardew pipeline is so real
Same!! I was confused when the Catz game for the DS looked so different than I remembered because I never realized that the GBA Catz game and DS Catz games were so totally different!
therapist: virtual babies can’t hurt you
virtual babies: 👁️👄👁️
petz fantasy was my CHILDHOOD. petz fantasy ds is quite different from 3ds! and it's marginally better, I'd say.
you're able to unlock different outfits through QR codes or completing challenges;
the food minigame requires you to draw in a food's picture, the water minigame is the same, and the basketball minigame is actually a little hard and requires a bit of timing, as the pet moves around until you throw the toy
you need to find three favorite items of a pet (one food, one washing item, one toy,) to gain the chance to go into a minigame. if you beat the minigame, you can either go through the second tier of favorite items or pick a new egg pet!
the pet also has a mood meter! if the mood meter goes all the way down, you play a game where you have to calm down your pet before the MC's parents come home. you can only lower this meter by picking disliked iems outlined in *red* in the selection screens.
Ohhh!😟 that sounds terrifying what
I’m so glad someone is finally talking about dogz 2 that game was a literal fever dream of my childhood and I love it
Gog I remember Hamsterz from when I was a kid. I was randomly given this as a gift but I really loved it.
I wish all my bunnys could play together.
my first introduction to petz was petz dogz 2. I was SO UPSET to discover that the other petz games weren’t absolutely epic rpgs with very slay music
I'm a casual pet sim player, but the one I played the most in my entire life is Hamsterz Life and you made me want to download it again!!
bruh. i was obsessed with the adventure Petz 2 wii game and ive been looking for it for over a decade, since i didnt own it myself, my friends did. thank you SO MUCH for covering these games!!
I hope you're doing ok and that the cult hasn't ruined you.
I used to play Catz Clan for hoursssss as a kid, once I learned they were able to have kittens I was totally hooked-
when ubisoft took over, they basically didnt MAKE the games, they just took small already made japanese games, translated them and then published them as their own, which is why theyre all so different to each other. i dont know if thats what they did for the imagine series but... i imagine it is.
theres also a question if they actually *bought* the rights to a lot of the games they published, or if the orginal games were just small enough to not be able to fight it
Oh my GOD I had the Hamsterz game as a kid and was obsessed, I loved the mini games and English language speaking little friends
i hated pet care sim games as a kid but i was OBSESSED with hamsterz life. there's a surprising amount of stuff you can do in the game, like making a detailed list of family members and friends with icons chosen from a ridiculously long list and letting your hamster run around your characters room
Love your editing style by the way, it's always a pleasure to watch your videoz
Seeing this upload pop up as a 27 y.o. with my OG Catz CD ROM in it's case on display at my desktop made me feel warm inside. And old.
Petz nursery 2 was my FAAAAVOROTE game on my childhood ds, moonlight n sunlight magic were also fun but don’t hold the same nostalgia
My brother LOVED nursery 2 when he was little!!! Also the fantasy games! I had sunlight and my brother had moonlight!
NEW DREAM JELLY VIDEO DROP LETS GOOOOO
Tigerz and Dolphinz were my and my best friend's faves, and we both enjoyed Dogz 2 alright
30:22 I wrote a simple Python script to test all possible combinations, and there are two (four if you count the duplicate numbers as separate) possible solutions that land you on exactly 119
3 + 3 + 20 + 38 + 55
and
20 + 20 + 15 + 27 + 37
She always tried to take my DS to play it 😂
The first Hamsterz game was a LOT like Bunnyz
That Catz theme song from 2006 used to make me cry. I had the PC version, which seems more involved than the DS one. I was obsessed with training my cats and getting good at the contests, which were lowkey hard if you weren’t properly trained.
BABE WAKE UP, NEW DREAM JELLY VIDEO JUST DROPPED
literally what i said to my bf like an hour ago LMAO
I still play Petz: Dog, Cat, Monkey, and Cat family on DS lol. It's my favorite game since my childhood
I CLICKED IN THIS SO FAST I LIVED LAUGHED LOVED THE PETZ SERIES
SAMEEEE
i’m so glad you talked about petz2 and the one on the gba where you eat chocolate, it makes me so happy because when i was a kid i played those ( and dog island! ) and thought it was lost to time since i never remember the titles until recently 🥺
How is the hamster pet care rating over 2pts when every hamster owner knows these games to contain a lot of misinformation about hamster care.
The Nintendo DS family of horsez game, i just loved it! The petting them to make them grow Up got tiring, but I was obsesses with that game
Hamsterz was my favorite game ever. I had the same hamster for many years until I sadly lost my game card. The hand thing is to help find prizes outside the cage :)
SAME
The work you've put into this video to make it so entertaining and charming is incredible, I'm in love! ;u; From the clipboard and all the little graphics you've cut out for it to ofc the room with the doors, everything is done with so much detail and creativity!!
THE JUMPING THING ON THAT GAME WAS SOOO HARD
you’re literally one of my favorite creators in youtube! i rewatch your videos all the time and i’m so happy to see you’ve posted again! love your content, thank you for creating! 🫶🌙
Isn't her content soothing?
I remember I used to play petz nursery 2 for the DS honestly the funnest game to me, you own multiple pets even own a tiger or penguins so much memories in that game omgg🥺🥺
I used to spend hours a day playing Petz Beach on my 3DS as a kid, great memories!!
