    =======================================
I think all great leaders are exceptional at asking good quality questions.
I’m going to show you the secret to asking a good quality question…
The other day, I was running a Coaching Skills for Managers workshop. I was teaching them how to be coaches as a leader. One of the skills of a great coach is their ability to ask exceptional questions.
What do people really want? People want answers. But to get an answer, you have to ask a question. The problem is, people ask really dumb questions!
For example, have you ever asked yourself the question: ‘Why is this always happening to me?’ And the answer comes in your head: ‘Because you’re an idiot.’ Or something like that. When you ask a dumb question, you’re going to get a dumb answer. So you need to learn how to ask really good quality question.
The secret to asking a really good quality question is a presupposition.
A presupposition is a linguistic assumption that helps someone move forward. For example, if I were a leader in an organisation and I were to ask ‘Can you do that?’ - there is no presupposition in that question. If I were to ask that question with a presupposition, I would say, ‘How can you do that?’ There’s an assumption in that sentence that they can do it; they just have to work out how.
Another example is, you might say ‘Is this working?’ - but a presupposition would be ‘How is this working for you?’ There’s an assumption in that sentence that it is working for them on some level.
Learn to ask good quality questions that helps to move someone forward. for example ‘How can we turn this around?’ or ‘What would be a great outcome in this situation?’ or ‘What is the one thing that we could do right now that would make the biggest difference?’ These are all really good quality questions because there are presuppositions or linguistic assumptions in those questions that assume that there is a solution, that we can move forward, that we can make progress.
So think about this….”what is the linguistic assumption that you want to insert in your sentence to move the person forward”. So that if they accept the linguistic assumption, that question becomes more powerful.
If you can ask really good quality questions with linguistic assumptions in them that actually help people to move forward, you will become a more effective leader.
I trust this has been valuable. Please like it and tweet it.
My Question of you: What’s a great quality question that you use in meetings or as a leader with people? Please comment below.

Secret to asking a really good quality questions
    1. Pre-supposition: a linguistic assumption that helps someone move forward.
    Ex:
Without pre-supposition: Can you do that
With pre-supposition: How can you do that?
    Without: Is this working?
With: How is this working for you
How can we turn this around?
What would be a great outcome in this situation?
What is the one thing that we can do right now to make a big difference?
There is a pre-supposition or a linguistic assumption in these questions that assumes that there is a solution, that we can move forward, that we can make progress.

      So my question now is
      1. How is it possible that many differential equations are solved using Laplace transforms than just using each of the techniques there is for each type of differential equations? What made it possible?
      2. Are there differential equations that are better solved using a technique other than the laplace transform? What are those?
      3. What are the other methods used for solving the inverse of a laplace transform?
These are questions I wish i could have asked during our class. Instead, i shut quite and didn't talk. Huhu.
With pertaining to life, i want to ask...
Where will this journey of life take us?

If you ask, “How? Why? What? “ you will get better answers than ‘Closed’ questions which only require a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answer.

How can you make a video that a new employee should ask at a new position?
    Great job.

🎉A linguistic assumption seems like a special condition that usually affects you and your company in a negative way that forces you to quickly ask yourself the question of how and why it is affecting you. Your own internal or collective conditions are the main parts of that linguistic assumption and much better if those special conditions lead you to a superior model, so your class on how to ask good questions was masterful.

I ask if there’s any new information that would change your opinion. If they say “no”, they’ve discredited themselves. If they say, “yes”, drill down - ask what information / evidence. Then confront the person with exactly the evidence they claimed would change their mind. Then enjoy the show as they rationalize their way out of the corner they were just painted into.

Hi Colin I am very verbal and am trying to turn this around by asking better questions, I am thinking that in discussion with others (discussing a particular topic) it may be good, to begin with, I assume you agree that... would this be a good approach, or is it to clsoed (pardon the pun)?

It would be good if you talk more about mental illness. That's the major social issues we are going through. Everyone is talking about good...be it a leader..or to influence people with talks.. there is more than that this generation needs.
