I think you should make more prints because this painting is really beautiful and you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. I think it’ll be really popular just because it’s Sailor Moon and your art style and the vintage look with bright colors a lot of people would really like the piece.
It would be an accomplishment if each piece of art we made reach our vision...in an ideal world. On the other hand this painting is not a lesser painting. You took your experience and personal style and made it work. This painting is beautiful!
This is just gorgeous. The colors harmonize beautifully. I understand if you don’t like it but I think this could be a top seller for your shop if you made more prints.
It's a real bummer when the pieces we do don't quite turn out how we'd like them too! I love the expression and rendering on Sailor Moon's face. It definitely draws my eyes the most! Maybe you can try messing with the color balance in PS to see why the color isn't working for you, just to see why it doesn't feel right? I love the color in all your pieces a lot, so I'm excited for the next one :)
I think for me it's the change in style. Even backlit, Princess Serenity stays in the same colors in the anime. Rini has a softer bright pink hair and Mini Mini Moon had the darker pinkish red. Serenity tended to have lighter wings in most images for both anime and manga. So I think the shift from the familiar appearances is what makes this, not bad by any means, but maybe feel a little off in some way just because the mind is looking for certain things that while right for this style aren't what the mind expects. I do really like the way it looks for the style. It's lovely. But having spent years in fandoms that alter from the original style, I am used to using those differences to spot some of my favorite artists, which creates an all new fun angle. So hopefully you can maybe find a way to look at this piece at some point and enjoy it for the blending of styles and not just the little things that feel wrong right now.
Fantastic everything! Wow! Love this video. From conception to completion. Fun to get into your head. You are a fantastic artist. Thank you for sharing your artwork. Love all that you create. Have a wonderful day.
Don’t be so hard on yourself and don’t put your work down. You create really beautiful art. Prints never come out like the original but they are replicas so nothing will ever be as good as an original. You do have great talent and your art gets better with each piece you do. That’s a true sign of a great artist. With that said, I did like the 3rd concept better than the other two. Mostly because it looked like the daughter was jumping into the hug with more love. It showed more emotion and movement. Over all I like all your doodles and finished work. Thanks for sharing! 😁
i genuinely really like this one. im an artist myself so i know it wont really change your own perception of your art when people compliment it, but i wanted to let you know i think its a gorgeous piece! i really need to get better at traditional art, your handling of the material is really confident and impressive!
this is suchhh a great idea and the final product looks gorgeous! I really like mixing western and asian elements in my own art too. mini moon was one of my favorite characters along with sailor mars :)
I love the colors in this piece, it reminds me of light bubbly effects. Your pieces are super soft and it's inspiring me to try and layout ideas for when I have the room to paint. (I just moved from a smaller room to a larger one and am in the process of buying furniture)
Ohhhh I love this piece so much! The backlight and like the bottom like light gradient you put for their dresses is so nice. I adore paintings like these. I can't wait to see more of your videos and the art you produce ✨❤️✨
I love so much! Two of my favorite classic artists and your final piece turn out amazing! I know that you don't feel like it, but please make more prints!!!
What a cool idea! Both your preparation drawings and the final composition are beautiful and elegant. Congrats on your new place! Ottawa is a nice city. Cool art gallery!
I actually really enjoyed this. Even though I love the series, seeing sailor moon over and over for the past 20 years has frankly gotten old. But painting her in this style actually was really refreshing and pleasant to watch. I love the elongated neck because not only does it pay tribute to Gustav but also to Naoko's style. The rendering is just stunning. I don't even understand how artists and paints can just come out that beautiful. You did an amazing job and artists are often tougher on themselves but to your audience, your art is something that moves us and makes us feel a certain happiness thats not easy to describe. I will be subscribing. I hope that after you express your concerns on the painting, that you say a few things positive about your technique as I think it would be a great way to build your confidence with your artistic ability. There are tons of amazing things you have achieved in this painting alone. I'm looking forward to watching more from you
Sailor Moon. Klimt. What a random pairing! But you pulled it off. We're our own worst enemies sometimes. As much as I'd like to say don't get so down on yourself, I do the same thing. ("Hello, Kettle! I'm Pot.")
I loooove this piece. My only thought is that your usual shading technique with cool color makes Usagi look like she's got a five o'clock shadow moustache but it's growing on me. I want a print.
I love seeing this whole process. I have some watercolors lying around that I never had the courage to pick up, this gave me a good idea of a way to start and approach the piece. Thanks for the content!
I love all three compositions! And I agree with you, I do like the first one best :) Wow! I love Gustav Klimt too -- this "Mother and Child" is one of my Klimt faves (such image is also integrated in his "The Three Ages of Woman"). This video is quite significant to me because previously, I did a female version of Picasso's "The Old Guitarist", and am currently making a study on two of Van Gogh's works which moved me to venture into this new project :) Thank you for sharing this particular work, Chris. I'm now a subscriber, one among the many you inspired.
It's absolutely beautiful. I collect Sailor Moon artwork and admittedly wish I could add this to my wall. The colors fit the subjects, given how pastel-heavy the original series was, at least the anime. The manga art was made with bolder shades, save for the ones featuring the Moon family, so you totally nailed this. Edit: As I look at the finished piece, it has Klimt's touch in the figures, but Mucha's colors. I think that's a fantastic combination to have.
This is a stunning piece! I wish I'd been fast enough to snag a print, there's so much warmth and love in their expressions and the composition. And although I was very partial to the third diagonal comp, I love that this made the final piece because it's a beautiful homage to the Klimt original. Another thing I found interesting, in your commentary you mentioned that it was hard to render Rini's face to look childlike enough; this is so fitting for the character itself! If I recall correctly, Rini's body doesn't age somehow. That fact makes me feel like she became wiser beyond her apparent years and that this would show through her facial mimicry and eyes!
#1 was my favorite too (: Like you said, I think it just fits well into the frame. Also I'm not very well versed on fine artists so I hadn't heard of Klimt until this video and now I'm a big fan. Really love this!!
I love your pencils style and compositions! I am working on some book illustrations these days so I'm quite occupied during the quarantine (I'm from Italy). I spend a lot of time drawing and listening to your videos on youtube. It's really comforting knowing that you struggle with your painting as I do (even if I draw digital). It would be great to always know how our pieces will end up, I'm very envy of those artist who know exactly how they want their illustrations to be in the end. But you're doing a great job! keep up!
Aw im so sorry that you don’t like the painting! But to me it’s beautiful!! I really love the composition, the effects of the butterflies and bubbles! Keep going on 💪🏽 💗✨
The third composition was my favorite! I love your art, it’s so pretty. The faces and neck in this piece are a little unsettling to me, but I love the colors and style a lot. It’s very clean and still soft. Well done
I love this piece and seeing the process only inspires me more honestly. I was waiting for this video!! ever since I saw the posts of it on instagram I was excited to see how you did it! and its finally here and I loved it.
This is not fair!!! I just found ur channel and love this piece!! Please keep it in ur store so other people may have a chance to buy it in the future.
When I starting the video I was wanting to buy this in your store, after the video I quickly bought another piece I've been eyeing from your store.... hoping for a print!! Enjoying the 2 mermaids i have already in my daughters room
I hope you use the poses and composition of #3 for something some day! I agree that #1 was the most fitting for what you were going for, but #3 is my favorite and i hope you use it for something.
Hi Chris! I just found out about your youtube channel, but I absolutely love this piece. I hope you'll sell this print in the future because it's 100000% something I'd love to buy and hang up.
The whole idea of this video is really cool! I liked to 3rd sketch you did in Photo shop the best but I think they were all interesting. I'd love to see you do more videos taking anime or other cartoons and translating them into more - I don't know what to call it, classic? old? I dunno, but the same way this style feels. Sorry for badly phrasing that 😅
It's a lovely compsition and the colors are beautiful together! The turquise in the background might be a bit to powerful/strong/dark? Seeing as you were going for the back-lit look in your painting, the background has almost the same value as the dresses, which drowns out the effect a bit. But you shouldnt worry about it, it is a wonderful painting!
I think the painting is beautiful! Loving your style. I also always feel terrible about my art, glad I'm not the only one. Can you also do a video on how to make and package prints?
my favourite composition is definitely the third one! but i love all three! your art is so beautiful. I was wondering if you've ever considered posting good quality versions of comps you don't use (The photoshop versions, i mean) so that people can try painting them? I think it would be really cool to see your compositions painted by other people. Its a thing ive seen some artists do and it would be really interesting to see with your gorgeous comps. :D
This is great! you shouldn't be so hard on yourself, I don't even like Sailor Moon and I would buy it (if I bought art) the colour palette is very pretty it makes the piece look very uh... soft, cosy looking like a warm bed... and it is very inviting. I think you should do more prints of it (and I am very judgemental when it comes to art, even though I can't do as well so don't think I say that easily)
bravo ! Can you tell me how to transfer drawing to watercolor paper, ? Your drawings are so clean before painting, When you make your drawing on photoshop, do you use the same technique ? (sorry for my english, I'm french ;-)
Yes it's beautiful don't do that to yourself..Your art style is unique and your color choices like I said before is outstandingly progressive and dare I say unique again.. Don't sell yourself short .I and probably many others would love to draw and paint and use colored pencils like you .I'm sad that I probably won't be able to buy some of these cause you don't sell them anymore I'm almost always a year or two to late lols
I think you should make more prints because this painting is really beautiful and you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. I think it’ll be really popular just because it’s Sailor Moon and your art style and the vintage look with bright colors a lot of people would really like the piece.

why Teju WHYYY 😭😭 haha well I'm at least happy to hear you like it ;3; 💕

the butterflies definitely completed the picture, loved it
This is beautiful just like the majority of your works.

I love the third composition :) It's more dynamic!
It's always a treat to watch your videos! Very nice work, glad all the prints have found a home.

this is suchhh a great idea and the final product looks gorgeous! I really like mixing western and asian elements in my own art too. mini moon was one of my favorite characters along with sailor mars :)
The way you rendered the hands and feet is so soft and lovely!

I love how comfortable you are with trying new things!! your art is so good!!
Oh and I really loved the way you explained your process, it is very helpful!
Inspired to try something like this incorporating a mother and two children... it's stunning
That, is, absolutely gorgeous! I lOve the colors together and I love how it looks like things are glowing. I love it! Also, Sailor Moon!
eventhough this is Klimt inspired, it also reminds me alot of Muchas style! Wonderfully done as always
I was actually very much inspired by Much as well, and I talked about it a bit but I ended cutting that portion out to save on time 😂
I was going to say that! Hahah
Thank you! I've yet to check it out :O waiting for a new exhibition to roll in!
Yeah this piece is absolutely lovely 💜
I liked the 2nd one the best. And the one you went with turned out beautifully. 🙂

Even all your sketches are amazing! Every time I watch your videos, I feel inspired to do watercolors again. I guess I’m doing some painting today. 😊

Awwww I think it turned out really sweet!
#3 is really gorgeous
Your art is absolutely amazing! wanna see more videos from you! you're incredible Chris!

Amazing!!! Researched Gustav Klimt today in art class so perfect timing!

Like you said, I think it just fits well into the frame. Also I'm not very well versed on fine artists so I hadn't heard of Klimt until this video and now I'm a big fan. Really love this!!

Can you also do a video on how to make and package prints?
Wow love it

Aaaaaa it looks beautiful, I was just thinking of watching sailor moon again!
And for I do think you made it too blue, but that could just be me
my favourite composition is definitely the third one! but i love all three! your art is so beautiful.
