Hey, thank you so much for making this video! I plan to take on the exact same task next weekend. I’m not sure if I missed it in the video but I was wondering how far apart you made your fence posts
Awesome job buddy I’ve been looking to make a fence for my two dogs. Same kind of fence but great idea with the boards don’t have to worry about my dog jump in the gate. 👍🏼
Your poor Workmate has seen better days! I had to replace the jaws on mine with some 2x10 drilled and routed. Maybe that could be a video for you someday if you are so inclined. A few years ago my uncle (a finish carpenter by trade) was helping me build (actually he built it and I just schlepped for him) a fence and gate. When I suggested that we half lap the two diagonals he told me "you've been watching too much Norm Abrams".
That type of wire is just called "field fencing" and comes in rolls of varying lengths like chicken wire or anything else. It's a good thing you nailed it to the posts the way you did bc I've actually had the wire separate at those junctions before.
Timothy they have a thicker wire but it only comes in a sheet not a roll but given your section you should only need 3 or 4 depending on the length you purchase. Nice build I'm going to do the same but I'm adding pea gravel instead of leaving grass
Came out really nice, congrats man. I'm thinking about doing something similar to just close a 50' unfenced section of my yard. Seems like a cheaper and more aesthetically pleasing alternative to more chain link fencing.
Wood posts with wire fencing 'california chain link?' looks much nicer than the old chain link galvanized posts. Using Oz Post can also make installation a lot faster. They didn't have those when I installed my fence over 20 years ago.
my boykins would be out in about 30 seconds ripping that wire to shreads or just a hop and out with no problem and there only 33 lbs an think that it was just a fun toy that you put up for them to play over or tear threw for teeth cleaning. and out in the street they crews not good and the work done should of used better material.
How has the welded wire held up for you thus far? Need to build something for my dog ASAP and was looking at welded wire because it is inexpensive. Thanks if you have time to reply.
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop Ah. Alright, I appreciate your replies. I will likely try the 14G welded wire and see how that works since I don't have a lot of cash to spend. Thanks again.
I used 2x8s. I have found out that you want to work your way down when using dimensional lumber. Drill a hole, insert post, mark second hole (make it a bit bigger or adjustments), place the pole, then do a top and bottom cross brace, then move on to the next section. When doing my privacy fence the panels were "8ft" in length, but after installing 10 panels I was about 4 inches in difference from original holes.
I went with a basic 8 foot spacing. The 2x6's are the cross braces and they are 8' long. The 4x4's are 10' in length and are buried 2ft into the ground leaving 4' above for the fencing.
Fantastic. The rain has bee. Hard in this area and made some muddy spots, but we have put a patio in there made of brick pavers to give them a nice spot to hang out on.
I’m gonna try this I’ve never done any projects but I think I can do it. How do I determine how far apart the post to be. I’m not digging the lost I’m using cinder blocks and cementing the post to them I think digging would be too much for me.

Need under ground wire threshold for diggers
About to do this same design! Thank you so much for this helpful video!
3:05 We must secure the tools before releasing them from the hands
Great job. Thanks for the video
I love your dogs. You are so wonderful to have taken the time to build beautiful pen👍🙏
Thank you
Love the fence. Love the Weimaraner :) we are looking for one please where did you get her. Thanks
Local breeder
And the reason I’m doing 4 feet is
because...
Our fence is 4 feet tall. Good one.👍😅
For anyone who wants to do this, spent the top of your post or add a tar to the top to prevent the paot from rotting!
What's the size of the boards 1"×3"×10' or 1"×6"×8' cause I know about the 2"×4"

If was on this project that it collapsed. I really liked that and plan on rebuilding it.
My 6 month old female pitbull chewed and broke through the cattle fence.
Look for cattle panel fencing instead. It is thicker wire and she won't get through it.
That type of wire is just called "field fencing" and comes in rolls of varying lengths like chicken wire or anything else. It's a good thing you nailed it to the posts the way you did bc I've actually had the wire separate at those junctions before.
Do you have any recommendations for better fencing? I have seen some spots that are separating and have been looking at improvements.

Really nice. Great job!👍
Thank you
Great job! Thank uou
What Brand/Make Auger You Using ?!??
The auger from Harbor Freight
Came out really nice, congrats man. I'm thinking about doing something similar to just close a 50' unfenced section of my yard. Seems like a cheaper and more aesthetically pleasing alternative to more chain link fencing.
I despise chain link fencing.
Where'd you get the auger? It's a lot more powerful than the one I use.
Harbor freight
We call that a dog run.
Gotta install mesh along the fence as to keep dowg from digging a hole to escape wich every dog does
They are pretty good about not digging holes at the fence. Middle of the yard yes, but not the fence
Had to do that for my Yellow Lab. He’d dig out until we put a 3’ wide wire mesh border on the ground around the entire fence. 😂
How much it cost u
What a bad, bad, man!
Do you ever have any trouble with the dogs digging holes under the fence to get out?
No
what measurements did you use for gate?
Wood posts with wire fencing 'california chain link?' looks much nicer than the old chain link galvanized posts. Using Oz Post can also make installation a lot faster. They didn't have those when I installed my fence over 20 years ago.
So your dog doesn't jump out of that?
No
I would love to do this... About how much does something like this cost? I'd really appreciate the info!
Love this design! Gonna work on a similar fence for my dog, thanks for all the tips and ideas
How much did it cost to make? What is the description LxWxH 👍Good Job
4x4's were 5 ft tall, each 2x6 was 10ft. Just adjust to the area you need, think it was roughly $300 for all the lumber
That’s a huge dog run area. I think I might create one as well. I’m tired of my whole yard having poo 💩 to
Clean up. 🧹
How long in meters is that fence?
Very nice🏆
you can get a beam attatchment for a worm drive saw that cut on pass threw the beams with like hot butter
my boykins would be out in about 30 seconds ripping that wire to shreads or just a hop and out with no problem and there only 33 lbs an think that it was just a fun toy that you put up for them to play over or tear threw for teeth cleaning. and out in the street they crews not good and the work done should of used better material.
I have upgraded tocattle panels on the inside. They dogs cant chew through that. We have no issues with them jumping over.
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop always best to keep the poor doggies safe then sorry.
How much were all the supplies?
I'm sorry I cant remember at the moment. I do believe it was under $200 though
What all did you use wood type and sizes
Treated 4x4's and 2x6's
i cant decide whether to use a roll or hog wire panels. i am afraid that the roll will be wavy though instead of remaining taut. what do you think?
If you keep it tight it should not get wavy
They need better shade. A large section with shade cloth would be ideal.
I made a recent video of just that. Go check it out and let me know what you think.
How much did this cost ? To make
About $250. Now it may be higher with the price of lumber going up.
How has the welded wire held up for you thus far? Need to build something for my dog ASAP and was looking at welded wire because it is inexpensive. Thanks if you have time to reply.
It does ok. We have upgraded to the thicker wire fencing from tractor supply. It is more expensive, but holds up a lot better.
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop The woven type wire you mean?
Its not woven I dont believe. I think they call it cattle panel. The squares are like 2x4 spacing and the metal rods are about 1/4 in diameter.
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop Ah. Alright, I appreciate your replies. I will likely try the 14G welded wire and see how that works since I don't have a lot of cash to spend. Thanks again.
My dog likes to try to break through it. Smaller dogs wouldn't be a problem i dont think.
Nice, good idea.
Looks great. Nice job.
How do I do this but make it dig proof?
Bury the fence deeper so that if they do dig they wont get through
How much did it cost you?
Right around $250 I think.
I like it but I have a question: where do the dogs will do their potty business?
Clean it up at the end of the day
In that fenced area and if you are a decent owner clean it up by the end of the day
Is that a Dobermann?
Weimaraner
How far apart did you space the posts?

Timothy DC 10 foot buried 2 feet would leave 6 foot do you mean 8 foot boards
Yes 🤦♂️wrong fence project. And they are about 30" into the ground. I drilled the auger as deep as it would go. Thanks for the correction.
hows it holding up over winter?
Fantastic. The rain has bee. Hard in this area and made some muddy spots, but we have put a patio in there made of brick pavers to give them a nice spot to hang out on.
Good looking Weimaraner
I think so too 😁
How much was spent?
Roughly $250
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop wow, thanks.
It is cheaper than a 10x10 dog lot and they get a lot more room to run around
I really like that man it looks great! What's an estimate of the cost it took for u to do all that?
Under $300. I think it was in the lower $200.
@@ASliceofWoodWorkshop wow! That's great..
I’m gonna try this I’ve never done any projects but I think I can do it. How do I determine how far apart the post to be. I’m not digging the lost I’m using cinder blocks and cementing the post to them I think digging would be too much for me.
Nice! How much do you think this costed if you had to estimate?
Just under $300
Looks awesome! Wanna try this around my coop!
Really easy to build and looks great. Enjoy building your
Did you have to stretch the fence? Did you do it in 8' sections?
10' sections and I didnt stretch it
Why did you lock the dogs man you have a big yard let the dogs run
This is for if we have guests over or other things that they need there own place. They get plenty of freedom.
Timothy DC yeah that’s what I do when my family come over I just put them inside
