• How to build Dog fence...
A little build and a tour of my escape proof dog pen. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for watching!
Comments and suggestions always welcome
That dog's locked up like Fort Knox 🤣🤣
Awesome video!! I have 5 huskies and will need to build a slightly different and larger pen. The design and tutorial help a lot . Thank you
Great job ! Love it ! I have 4 dogs. 2 are escape artists as well. Definitely need something like this !
How do you make those angled pieces of wood? My husky finally figured out how to jump the fence and these would be perfect
They're just 2x4's cut on a 45 degree angle screwed into the top of the fence with chicken wire stapled to the outside.
Is there any possible way to show us how you did the door side too ? Thank you for sharing!
The pen is so pretty!! I live in a trailer park so have limited space and dislike walking my dog around the neighborhood because my neighbors are weird. This might be a solution for us :)
I'm hopefully going to be building an entire fence like yours for my yard this summer but probably wont leave my dog unattended in it.. knowing him he would just tear the wire off lol, but It'll definitely keep him home while I am inside.
My crazy dog would chew his way out of that kennel in two minutes.
Nice work! I like the stone blocks and underground fencing ideas. I'm about to build one for a large crafty Great Dane. I'll have to do something other than chicken wire though as I feel he may hurt his feet or nails.
Thanks n Cheers!
Won't stop my pit/lab
Probably best to keep your lab in the pit then.
That is a short fence for a husky.... I had a 5' welded wire fence stapled to an existing wood picket fence and tried the same technique with the angle chicken wire fence above it... jumped it day 1. The only real jump proof solution is more height, or coyote rollers. I would be surprised if your husky hasnt jumped this since you've posted the video. Especially with the dog house roof only a couple feet from the top of the fence.
In my experience with just my 1 2yo husky, the bare minimum for an escape proof fence is to go a foot into the ground to prevent digging out if it is a softer soil, and AT LEAST 6' vertically with a climb proof material (not chain link or wire fence, but a flat surface like a wooden stockade fence. They will climb anything they can get a purchase on with their claws...).
My husky has never gotten out, but you make a valid point, every dog is different. It’s amazing what they’ll do if properly motivated.... squirrel! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Good video but my husky and German Shepherd would make quick work of that
Wouldn't hold my Border Collie though. He tears the fencing apart. Would have to get the lowest gauge chain link fencing available and still may not stop him. Local stores only carry 9 gauge but he tears a hole in it and climbs out.
When I put the final touches on my kennel complex I’ll see about sending you a picture.
That'd be great!
I’m totally stealing the sign idea brother thanks. Liked and subscribed for payment
Man am I having a problem with my sons dog escaping all the time! Definitely doing this TODAY!! The nails in the ground is Genius! 🤯 Thank you!
I made a fence similar to this and the dog is chewing through the wood and pushing the gate door open somehow. Any suggestions?!
I have 3 huskies. One always climbed the fence after watching the cats do it now we have 4ft high wire fence on top of the Stockdale fence. At the bottom we dug a trench and cemented chicken wire in it they don't even attempt to dig or go over anymore
Huskies are next level escape artists, its crazy what we have to go through to keep them safely contained. Thanks for sharing!
i have had 3 dogs that destroy the chain link fences with in one hour and that wire you used would last about 10 min. max time and there be holes in it all over and they also climb out threw the top and rip that chicken wire up like a cup of coffee in the morning i have to use welded hog pannels to keep them dogs in they was boykin spainals love to hunt birds and ducks and what ever i pointed them at. good luck dont let the dog get hit by a car with that cheap wire.
Thanks for your insight, always good to hear about other people’s experience. Thanks!
I was wondering why youd need so many containment measures then i remembered it was a husky
How did you connect the 8' panels together? Metal brackets? Or angled screws in them? Thanks for your time. I made your panels but need help attaching them to my 4x4 posts
I attached mine by using long screws on an angle from both sides, but brackets would work as well. If you screw it's a good idea to pre-drill so you don't split the wood. Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@bitsofwoodworkshop9393 Honestly you couldn't have help me anymore unless you were here building them for me. Thanks alot bud! These have to be the cheapest, sturdiest, and easiest to build fence panels on youtube!
I think Canadian huskies are not jumpers . Texan huskies will jump your set up in a heart beat .
HI THERE THANKS FOR POSTING YOUR VIDEO ABOUT ESCAPE PROOF DOG PEN I TOLD MY KIDS THAT OUR DOG PEN NEEDS LONG WOOD OR CUT WEATHER TEATED WOOD TO KEEP MINES IN THEY LOVE TO ESCAPE KOOL FENCE YOU BUILT
what gage of wire did you use for the fence panels?
Can dog chew through chicken wire .um just wondering.
I've seen dogs do things I thought were impossible, so, I'd say it depends how thick the wire is and how motivated the dog is.
Wow. Your dog looks exactly just like mines.
Handsome fella
Is there a vid on how you build the gate? I've never built anything like this before, but my pup is gonna need a dog run like this when we move :)
There's no vid on the gate, but it's basically the same fence panel with a cross brace to prevent sag. The important thing is to cement in or sufficiently secure the hinge side post to take the weight of the gate. Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@bitsofwoodworkshop9393 Thanks so much!
How would we do the cement posting?
I would set my posts first then build the panels to fit the space between. Really tricky to set posts to an exact measurement.
Thank you this gave me a good idea for what I want my dog pen to look like
Our dog actually pulls on the wire with his teeth until the hole is big enough to get out
Great video 👍. We have a vinyl coated chain link fence and our Shiba keeps lifting it up, pushing it out and digging under it. Do you have any suggestions? We have tried yard stakes in the spots he has gotten out and even added more of the poles in spots as well, nothing seems to work and I’m really afraid he will get out again. He is an escape artist and I can’t afford to lose him, he is a member of our family. Thank you
Hard to say without seeing your yard, or knowing your budget. Sometimes putting blocks, large rocks or patio stones along the fence is enough to stop them but if your dog is tenacious enough you may have to go all in. Rebuild the fence in wood with buried chicken wire or concrete, or build a pen something like mine within the yard, or keep him tied as much as that sucks😢 best of luck and thanks for watching!
I've watch both videos now and love the pen. We don't have enough 'space' for a pen, how would you go about turning it into a fence to separate part of the backyard? And how did you make the gate?
We have lots of fruit trees and I want to extend our veggies patches, and unfortunately our springer spaniel pup keeps jumping into the patches and picking up the dropped fruit and seed. So wanting to block it off to keep him out and it will be safer for him and more peace of mind from me.
The basic panel design can be made any size really, and put together in whatever configuration you’d like. To use it as a fence you’ll probably want to set some posts between the panels. The gate is basically a panel with a cross brace. It also never hurts to call a contractor and get their opinion on your particular situation. Hope this helps.
Cattle panels+/or similar flat welded fencing laid out on the ground and wired together, cover with sand, pea gravel, dirt, mulch for different areas of the kennel depending on activity and helps keep dog clean and happy.
There are obviously different sizes of grids and panels HxWx so make sure it would be impossible for your dog to squirm through the grids.
I add 2ft high x 1/4 inch weld wire because of 🐍 RATTLESNAKES.😮
Shiiiii that's awesome but my husky will jump outta there in a heart beat
Like the idea though 👍🏼
My husky is a maniac escape artist and he's never even come close to getting out. The angled chicken wire at the top stops him from being able to get over. If it was a real concern you could always build a higher cage or larger more robust fencing at the top. Thanks for the comment!
Genius!
Husky would have the last words. Lol.
Greatness! I have a question. It rains and snows where I am at a lot. Anyway you know of to prevent moisture rot for the wood foundation?
I used pressure treated wood. It resists rot.
Wow that was a good dad joke
Absolutely brilliant.
How has the welded wire held up and is it the 14 gaige stuff? Just got a dog and i need to build something for her. Thanks in advance.
Only 16 x 16? No room for him to run a bit and exercise.
I have a few acres for him to run around. The pen is just a place where he can go unsupervised for short periods of time and or do his business 💩 He likes it much better than being tied.
Is it chew proof lol
my husky breaks the welds bends the wire and squeezes out.
Bravo. Design, editing, all of it
Thank you this looks like it will work for me
Tutorial on how to make this please!!!!!
You should design the border wall.
Bawhaha! I'll get right on it... as soon as the cheque clears😅
Around how much did this cost
So how big is that and how much did it cost to build since I've been thinking of building one for my 2 GSD
It’s about 16’x16’ and cost somewhere around 600$ Canadian. That included the fencing, lumber, concrete, and hardware. I obviously built it myself so there was no labor. If you haven’t already seen it I recommend watching my other fence panel video which shows how to build the panels. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

My dog will chew through that nice job though just might use thicker gate thats it 💪👍👊
I'd hate to meet your dog😳
Bits of wood Workshop nice pup just very high intense wrking enery👍💪👊
It’s okay for a short time, but a dog should be part of a family and not a prisoner.
Agreed! Thanks for the comment!
lol..yup. i was skeptical that the other one would work for your houdini - I mean husky, love that you did the inward facing prison fencing along the top. I've been wondering why I haven't seen anyone try that yet...
