this is one of the better balayage videos out there. i took balayage classes at jacques dessange paris and they teach you to drop the product off at on the mid shaft, then you stroke/feather it up to the root. that way the highlight gets skinnier and skinnier as you reach the top of the section.
to those asking, its quite thick bleach used and when it touches other hair it softens the effect which works in our favor. great technique thank you Brian
I liked watching this, and the music made it able to watch as you applied and explained the process, When I studied Balayage at Loreal Pro at the Soho academy here in NYC, I was told to place cotton under the roots and towards the bottom then place plastic wrap to keep the heat in, I love doing this technique but balayage isn't for every client. You did a good job of demonstrating it. thank you!
I loved that you explained as you went! I am thinking of getting something like this done to my hair and being able to understand the process is very helpful in making my decision! I love the effect, looked beautiful!
Although her hair is beautiful before and after, the highlights are so perfect and natural looking. I love it! ❤ I am a natural redhead and the last time I let someone highlight my hair years ago, it was supposed to be very subtle like this but the contrast was such a bright/light blonde (esp at my face) that I had to cover all of my hair with a brown rinse. 😢 I wish I could find someone locally who does a great job with red hair like you (and be able to afford it). Thanks for sharing! I will show this to a stylist the next time I get up the nerve to get highlights again. 🙂
Its a very good idea not to have music if you are speaking. This is really loud. But any volume is very distracting when trying to focus. That said, nice technique! Hair color looks superb! Thank you for the demo!
your so good at what you do! i think i tend to over think the entire balayage process when it should be flowing and smooth, but i'm interested to see what this would do for someone who has a lot of thick hair and is darker between levels 1&4
It looks like he got better with his balayage technique because in his newer videos he does it better. The balayage techniqie has been around for a few decades but it started becoming popular only a few years ago. This video is old and I feel like hairstylists are now getting better at doing balayage.
Being that it's bleach, he probably left it on for around 30 minutes or until he could see the desired color throughout all the highlights. It does depend from person to person being that no hair color is exactly the same
I use loreal platinium on scalp lightner as its thicker and not as runny. Is this a good choice for the balliage? Or would I use a traditional powder lightner and just not mix it as runny? Thanks. Michelle.
Would it be possible to use the same technic with hair colour on bleached hair with a big root (something like 10 cm) to create a kind of low lights effect? thanks!
20vol is what I always use with bleach. it depends how fast you work, if you feel like its going to take you a long time to do this technique then you might want to use 10vol. The higher the vol the faster the processing time
Because you are not putting a ton of product on and he is obviously a professional. If you are doing this on a client and your new to it you can use plastic wrap underneath or cotton
didn't think it would slip or run, paste made of cream and not liquid developer can still bleed. i ask because i can't see result of the "bottom side" (underneath) of the highlighted hair. highlights on the "upside" are fine, i want to see the underside of the hair because though its not liquid it shouldn't fully penetrate to hair underneath it, but clearly partial penetration to hair underneath (or hair that moves and lies on top of the solution) can still cause bleeding issues because it is wet. not all colorists are skilled at this process so as a potential client, if i'm going to vet talent i want to know the implications ahead of time because once someone who claims experience, as most do for revenue reasons, f's it up, its way too late. especially with bleach. no refund is worth a bad bleach job and my natural level doesn't lift light enough with high lift color.
I use 20 30 40 vol 1 to 1 ratio with a hair gel added it is pretty thick the gel keeps the bleach from drying out Let the color process at room temp it slows the process time many times I use a higher vol developer . avoid heat lamps and dryer causes bleach to thin and bleed .
everyone here is askin why u dont use foils wrap or gloves.. well foils n wraps smear the color onto the hair that is not supposed to b coloured n gloves dont let you have the feel of the hair ehich is very important in this technique to not have stark lines n sections its more of going according to thr parting and thr head shape. the less u put on the hair the less hassle you create for yourself
This was one of THE BEST balayages I have seen. Very natural looking and not overdone.
Babylights

I love the partings for this particular balayage! Beautiful!
I luv th💝 is technique!! Isn't it sooo easy and NATURAL looking afterwards 😍✂
That's stunning! I love how it just freshens her hair up and gives it some life.

Being new to the technique I appreciated the step by step talking. Thank you.
thanks for explaining in simple language. great result
Cool technique...great instruction...wonderful result. Thanks so much for this upload.
So beautiful love it

I didn’t realize how long balayages have been around! Great video will definitely be checking in a lot. In my 12th week of beauty school!
You're Welcome! Thanks for watching
Me encanto tu tecnica!!saluditos dede el puerto de veracruz Mexico.
Great video. Gave me the confidence to try this at home on my own hair.

Love your technique!! Thank you!!
Loved the talking, I get more educated and information! Thanks!
A neat and comprehensive video.
Awesome Technique! Brian thank you for such a great tutorial!

great video!
So Beautiful Brian! 👍
wow, love this! Very to the point, and well explained.

Love the results of this balayage!
I used 20 Vol for control. Although, when I got around the face, I did mix a little 30 in as well so that it all lifted at a relatively similar pace.
why didn't you wear gloves?
very good job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great job!
Nice and neat love it!
Thanks for sharing! Love it!
very nice, great job
"A beautiful lightness" indeed!
I thank you very much for sharing you're knowledge...from one Stylist to another this is inspiring =)
Very informative, thank you!
Love it!!!
Very nice

Awesome! You're Welcome
This is the best balayage technique vid I've seen on UA-cam. Thanks!
Love it
Do you think you can do balayage on darker hair?
Even tho this is an older video it was very nicely done & explained. Do you teach any online more advanced tecniques? I am very interested.
When doing balayage like this should you use a higher developer since it's exposed to the air?
Looks amazing. What developer did you use?
more than likely he used 20 because there was not that much lift...higher the volume lighter the hair
Loved the video... but one important question i have is how long did you leave the lightener on for?
Being that it's bleach, he probably left it on for around 30 minutes or until he could see the desired color throughout all the highlights. It does depend from person to person being that no hair color is exactly the same

New Hope, PA
How long did you leave it on? Was there any heat involved?
brilliant
bravo!!!
If I'm using this technique on my client with gray hair, how would I touch up the gray with a color and also use the balayage lightening technique?
Can this be done on darker hair colors?
😍😍😍LOVE
Please come to UK and do my hair x
How long do you let it set? Thank you!!
What vol or % did you use for this great balayage?
as to maintain the natural feel i think he must have used 20vol cause her hair was already light
Would you still use a 20 developer with someone that has dark brown (between level 2-3) hair?
Me encantas¡
Global colour Kis Tarah karna chahiye Bal Rakhna Ho
What happens to the hair that lays on top of the bleach? I would think it gets spots on it
Would it be possible to use the same technic with hair colour on bleached hair with a big root (something like 10 cm) to create a kind of low lights effect? thanks!
are you using bleach here, or a color?
do you use a 10 vol or 20 vol? im not sure if 20 would be too strong
20vol is what I always use with bleach. it depends how fast you work, if you feel like its going to take you a long time to do this technique then you might want to use 10vol. The higher the vol the faster the processing time
What lighteners do u recommended for use when balyaging??
any..
Absolutly GREAT!! TY,but the music was distracting and couldn't hear you well.,but otherwise, great
why aren't you wearing gloves though?
I've notice lot of educators teaches it slighted different ! I guess u can create ur own personal version tecniuque ! Huh
💇👍
How come you dont put foil paper or plastic wrap?
Going for a natural process Vs. Rushing it.
anyone anyone...how does this not "bleed" to the underside or where hair is laying on top of it??!!!
Because you are not putting a ton of product on and he is obviously a professional. If you are doing this on a client and your new to it you can use plastic wrap underneath or cotton
didn't think it would slip or run, paste made of cream and not liquid developer can still bleed. i ask because i can't see result of the "bottom side" (underneath) of the highlighted hair. highlights on the "upside" are fine, i want to see the underside of the hair because though its not liquid it shouldn't fully penetrate to hair underneath it, but clearly partial penetration to hair underneath (or hair that moves and lies on top of the solution) can still cause bleeding issues because it is wet.

nn ob if you listen he says he does it light to look natural so if it does fall someplace else then it'll still flow bc it's not a dramatic change
There are several bleaches that are made especially for painting techniques. I believe they contain clay to keep them in place.
I want him to do my hair.
music is a bit loud, otherwise informative
Nice but I don't see any difference
