I'm from Albuquerque and I love it here and one thing I would have added because believe it or not alot of people don't know that New Mexico is apart of the United States
Hey John, we are driving back home through Albuquerque and wanted to see if you had any local restaurant recommendations to get those tacos you were talking about. We want to support a local business!
@@ELECTRIC-DNA Hey great to hear from you guys, absolutely! The restaurant with New Mexico cuisine that comes to mind is Little Anita's located at 10200 Corrales Rd. That restaurant has been there for over twenty years. I always order the Stuffed Sopapilla with carne adovada added X-mas (both red&green)smothered on top of it. X-mas a New Mexican preference among the locals. But they have other wonderful selections. Enjoy!
I randomly came across the video, native Burqueño here. I lived seeing an outsiders perspective of the city! My wife is a travel journalist and writes a lot about the city and state so I am always glad when I see someone else share something positive. We actually started dating as she was writing a book about Albuquerque.
@@ELECTRIC-DNA She does, and literally wrote the book on Albuquerque "100 Things to Do In Albuquerque Before You Die" and is coming out with a new book, "Secret Albuquerque." I've lived here my entire life and we did several of the things from the first book as research when we first started dating. When the book released, I had only done 36 of the things. She gets me out and around the city way more often than I used to, so I have a lot of love for the place.
Carne adovada is the red chile marinated pork at Cocina Azul. Mmmm! And there are many roadrunners in southern California, too. You arrived in a cold wave, the edge of even worse cold that hit Oklahoma to Houston and San Antonio. That's rare - they usually have a steady climate but Dec-Feb it's often chilly and not warm, low desert like Phoenix.
Love that you enjoyed the visit.. new mexico loves tourists.. come on down anytime yall.. clean air and reasonable prices for anything your interest lead you .. fyi recently we really stepped up our beer game..

Randomly came across this video. Thank you for your kind words to my hometown. Glad you all enjoyed your stay. February is definitely the coldest time of the year here. We just had our first snow storm lol. It's the coldest it's been since last year haha. Everything was very accurate, but don't let those speed limits fool you! Lol we have some of the worst drivers here and people driving 60 in residential areas. But the part about slower living.... Yes, we are the land of mañana. ❤️
I watch a ton of travel videos, esp when planning for trips, and I just want to say: Dallas and Aimee, this was not only the most informative + engaging video I've watched on Albuquerque, but of the travel FYI/crowdsource intel format! Thank you!
I visited from the UK first week of Feb and got caught in the snow...it was so bloody cold!! You can only go to the Trinity site in April and October. Atomic museum was excellent - good recommendation. Los Alamos is worth a visit, the Very Large Array south of the city is a great drive too.
I live here in ABQ, all good info. the reason it was cold in febuary is because its Winter and were not actually the desert, we are high desert which makes a big difference. Summer is hot but not too bad (no hotter than most of So Cal) and the monsoons come in July/August and cool things down. Im a So Cal Native and I prefer the weather here for the most part. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful city, Feb is a bit bleak as everything is still dormant, it comes to life in the Spring, flowers everywhere and the trees leaves return, its quite beautiful, as is mid to late fall when the trees turn. Enjoy your travels! Austin is cool!
Glad you mentioned our vibrant art scene! With covid, we're all closed down, but we have such a rich music scene here. Some of my favorite local bands are: The Big Spank, Crazy Fool, Merican Slang, Bandwidth No Name, and Synyster Vail. There's a million others that I love too, like Lone Piñon who play traditional New Mexican music and host events where traditional dances are taught, like the wedding dance called la marcha. Speaking of dancing, we have tons of Flamenco dancers and the National Institute of Flamenco. And interestingly, a pretty vibrant belly dance scene (I study under the incredibly talented dancers/founders of the Desert Darlings). And unrelated to all the above, NM is super geothermal! If you're into hot springs, our state is great. I'm from New Mexico and I love this state and my city with all my heart.🖤 I'm very proud of our culture and community!
I go home each year during the Green Chile harvest to get 300 lbs of XXX Hot Hatch green Chiles. Roast them, peel them and dehydrate them so I can have my daily dose, and so I can make Green Chile Stew. The peels can be dried and ground into a powder as a spice, and the stems dried and added to hickory or other woods to smoke meat. Sopapillas and a few other Northern New Mexican and Southern Colorado foods were originally Sephardic Jewish dishes, many of the first Spanish families in the 1590s who migrated were descendants of Spanish (Sephardi) Jews who were hiding from the Inquisition in Mexico City.
I used to work on Kirtland AFB and there's a huge wooden trestle and associated structures (ATLAS-1) still there (I believe), on which aircraft were tested for resistance to electromagnetic pulses. It was (remains?) the world's largest wood laminate structure and has very few metal fixings. It's now all done by computer modelling but, apparently, it would be very expensive to dismantle the trestle so it sits there in the sun, slowly deteriorating. 'Plenty of other interesting things on KAFB too, mainly related to energy research, etc. but not, of course, open to the public. BTW, NASA sent its first set of prospective astronauts to Lovelace health research facility in the city to assess their fitness for training. A very interesting place!
Well done. I’m a part time resident in Corrales NM and think you did an excellent review of our town. Some things you missed were the Rio Grande river and bisque, the Sandia mountains, and Madrid.
Glad you enjoyed your stay... early summer and mid fall are the best times for decent weather semi-consistently lol, but the winds can get so awful you'll be shocked it's not a tornado. There are tons of historical places here in NM, especially because we've always been a hub of merging cultures since before the Spanish wandered here. We also have much less government regulation than many other states... in a lot of ways we pride ourselves on still being a little bit wild west while also being home to technological and entertainment industries of the future. Great place to visit, but we also have a nickname "The Land of Entrapment " because people often come for a visit and decide to just stay forever lol.
Fun video. What a great adventure you guys had. And I did notice that you stopped in Moriarty on your way out of the canyon. We get a lot more snow on this side of the mountains. If you wander back through this way you need to check out the things on his side of the Manzanos.
This was a fantastic review of a city that has some very significant highs and lows. Also thank you for noticing the difference with New Mexican cuisine and the other Mexican foods.
In Albuquerque now with my dog. It would be helpful if you added a couple “dog friendly” things to do in you 6 month tour. Enjoyed your upbeat personalities . Enjoy your journey!
The best part of Albuquerque was leaving it. That place is the hood for real. If Tucson looks like a poor Phoenix, Albuquerque looks like a poor Tucson. Most of the gov and military stationed there hate it.
Red usually has pork fat which cuts the heat. Sour cream also cools the heat, yes it changes quickly 85 a couple of days ago mid sixties the next day. We rarely have 25 as a day time high usually mid 50's in the winter but there was one year I went and bought a coat because I was super cold. Albuquerque is the biggest city in NM and with rio rancho right next door we have around a million people in this area.
I don't think our weather is unpredicable at all. In winter, we can get a little snow. It is about 20-30 degrees at night and 50 degrees during the day. Coming from the Midwest I totally think that is moderate winter weather. We are at 5000 feet, so we do have 4 seasons
Weather-wise, if you aren’t from here it’s easy to forget that the Abq is above 5,000ft, roughly same as Denver. Yes, we are the other mile-high city, so no strangers to cold and snow, although with drought and warming our little mountain range scarcely gets the snowpack it used to.
The weather is unique! We have 4 seasons! Sometimes all in the same day!! I experienced it for myself!!! Cold w/ light snow in am... windy.. then rain ... the sun came out & went back into my office.. Later just right!!
Yes chili is great. Although, there is different levels of hot . Always ask to get any chili on side or separate container because it might so hot that it destroys the whole meal, and that way you can try a little separate before combining into or on top.
@@ELECTRIC-DNA Thanks. Yea, I've lived here in Albuquerque all my life except for college, but it's still nice here. The Albuquerque international balloon fiesta is always fun to watch. Mountain biking is a hobby I have and use to commute in city, great trails all around. And estate/ garage sales are many to find rare And great items. Camping/ fishing/ bicycling / , fun city/ State. Thanks again.
Hi Guys! As a native of Albuquerque I just wanted to thank you your kind words about our fair city. Sounds like you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you didn’t get to take a balloon ride but please try to come back for Fiesta ( 2020’s event was cancelled due to COVID but we hope to come back strong next year! ). Come back again soon!!!
We did enjoy our time there, and would love to come back for Fiesta. It sounds like they’re going to do it virtually this year so that should be interesting.
Red chili is milder than green, but it'll still wake you up & clear your sinuses! * There's a resident roadrunner in my neighborhood. * We have both Mexican & New Mexican food. Try El Camino Dining Room on N. 4th for fantastic Mexican food. The best food at reasonable rates is the Frontier Restaurant on Central Av. (Rt.66). Albuquerque is NOT a "small town". It's the 35th largest city in the US. * Albuquerque is becoming a movie center. A lot of movie companies are moving in.
If you ever come back, you have to check out the Sandia crest, it’s beautiful and my favorite restaurant is papa felipe’s, get their chile rellenos, it’s not too spicy. And the balloon fiesta is amazing if you’re in town for it. Also in Santa Fe you gotta check out meow wolf! It’s a and interactive art museum with a story to it. Floating down the Rio grande is a lot of fun too. A very wonderful place to check out is old town! A lot of cute locally owned shops. Also check out the Candy Lady, she made all of the blue rock candy that was used in the filming of breaking bad.
Thank for all the tips! We tried to go on the tram but it was closed because of snow. We definitely plan to go to Meow Wolf someday once all the madness ends.
Awesome vid guys! We welcome you back anytime! Gotta check out Corrales, NM. It's beautiful and the roadrunners act like dogs. They like meat and worms.
#10 is true. A lot of people from the area will say it's not. But EVERY CITY IN THE UNITED STATES think they have the worst drivers in the country. Locals have to realize that it's bad because it's your traffic, but on a grander scale it's not that bad. He's right, you can ride and see things at the same time. Try doing that in LA, Houston, D.C., Austin, or Miami. I lived in Atlanta. And when I moved to Phoenix, traffic was almost kind of boring to me, coming from Atlanta. In Atlanta you encounter a lot of highway standstills that could last 30 mins-2 hours. Always have to drive defensive; it's exhausting having to be on guard so much while driving. But these people in Phoenix swear it's the worse drivers they have ever seen. Not even close.
Hahah as someone who lives in ABQ I'm always so amused by people talking about their visit here because I forget that the things we consider normal are pretty new to people from other states (I almost ran over a roadrunner the other day!!😭 I didn't though, it's okay). As much as I love our culture here and think it's very unique to all the other states, please be careful. There is so much crime, not family friendly. People who are just passing through to get fast food get robbed and it's a capital for human trafficking because of the highways we have. If you're planning on moving here with kids, I recommend living in RR, the APS system horrible and RRPD is much more efficient. Lmao as much as I'm always like "ugh I hate it here there's nothing to do", I know that if I ever move I'll miss it so much 😂. Awesome places to visit here are SF, Taos, and Red River, maybe take a hike in Pecos!
I was born and raised in Burque. I travel for a job and can say nothing comes close to new Mexican food. We have nasty weather but it's gone by lunchtime.
Oh man you guys missed out on going to the Trinity Site (White Sands). When you see the dunes, It's like being in a dream because all the sand around you is pure white! It's amazing. It feels like you're in the Sahara desert in another dimension. Also they rent out sand sleds!
what's funny is we tease restaurants on how mild their chile is, we will literally ask "is this tourist hot? or NM hot?" Btw props for spelling chile the same way we do lol. Feb is actually our coldest month of the year, so it will snow up that way, down south (NM) not so much.
March is a better bet, but it’s pretty windy, April and may should be perfect. May I recommend hiking in the Sacramento’s near Ruidoso? Beautiful area with lots of history, including Billy the kid and gang.
@@ELECTRIC-DNA I've lived in many cities. Los Angeles (most of my life) Nashville, Atlanta, New York, Milwaukee and St. Louis -- the kindest people to me are the ones I've met or worked with here in ABQ. The Vista's here are breathtaking. It's truly is as enchanting as the motto goes. Where else can you sit on your balcony and watch hot air balloons drift by? At times it's simply surreal. Thank you for asking!
@@ELECTRIC-DNA Yes. Although everywhere I've lived has it's qualities. But, yes ABQ has really impressed me. Of coarse, like all of us, the pandemic has soured things considerably. That is to say, there's so much I want to explore, but with the restrictions it's made things somewhat difficult for all. I'd like to go and visit Santa Fe and do some fly fishing--That will happen soon I pray. Also, one of the reasons im here is due to the fact that Netflix is investing heavily here building studios and planning big productions going forward here. That's exciting. I've worked in the industry both above and below line-- After the pandemic, anyone's guess as to when, they'll be shooting gangbusters here.
Jeff Bezos was also born in Albuquerque and a huge fulfillment is being built here. Also born here were Demi Lovato, Neil Patrick Harris, and Bezos' girlfriend Lauren Sanchez. Meow Wolf, though in Santa Fe, is pretty awesome.

We loved how the cultures converged in NM! We definitely felt the Wild West vibes too. Thanks for watching!
Fun video. What a great adventure you guys had. And I did notice that you stopped in Moriarty on your way out of the canyon. We get a lot more snow on this side of the mountains. If you wander back through this way you need to check out the things on his side of the Manzanos.
Best New Mexican vid ever 💕🙏💯
This was a fantastic review of a city that has some very significant highs and lows. Also thank you for noticing the difference with New Mexican cuisine and the other Mexican foods.
Thanks so much, it really is an awesome place.
Wrong part of Albuquerque, visit the north east. Love many areas in the state.
Great video you guys,I lived in Albuquerque for 17 years wow do I miss that NM food!
The food is soooo good!
Understandable but we came from a place with extremely consistent weather - San Diego. So to us anything else is basically unpredictable.
I’m from NM and I still get pissed if the waiter or waitress doesn’t tell me if their Chile is hot
Yes the weather is crazy it snowed in April again
The weather is unique! We have 4 seasons! Sometimes all in the same day!! I experienced it for myself!!! Cold w/ light snow in am... windy.. then rain ... the sun came out & went back into my office.. Later just right!!
I hope you enjoyed new Mexico I live there and it's so great to live there we never have tornadoes or earthquakes or flood's or sunamys
Yes chili is great. Although, there is different levels of hot . Always ask to get any chili on side or separate container because it might so hot that it destroys the whole meal, and that way you can try a little separate before combining into or on top.
Lesson learned for sure!
Thank you for saying so much thanks to my state
I love Balloon Fiesta its so fun
Red chili is milder than green, but it'll still wake you up & clear your sinuses! * There's a resident roadrunner in my neighborhood. * We have both Mexican & New Mexican food. Try El Camino Dining Room on N. 4th for fantastic Mexican food. The best food at reasonable rates is the Frontier Restaurant on Central Av. (Rt.66). Albuquerque is NOT a "small town". It's the 35th largest city in the US. * Albuquerque is becoming a movie center. A lot of movie companies are moving in.
You are awesome and positive. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Come again.
Thanks for the kind words! We would definitely come back!
Hi April, it’s Stevens’s mom
Candy Lady also makes a lot of candy shaped like dicks!
Chile varies by restaurant and which town it's from, best to ask for the chile on the side
I love roadrunners! And Cali has surfers, while we have balloonists 😁
Awesome vid guys! We welcome you back anytime! Gotta check out Corrales, NM. It's beautiful and the roadrunners act like dogs. They like meat and worms.
How funny! Thanks for the tip, we hope to get back to NM once everything calms down.
Actually, everybody has told us about the chiles in ABQ
You are not joking when you say our weather is unpredictable! Great job guys (I'm born and raised Santa Fean).
I was born and raised in Burque. I travel for a job and can say nothing comes close to new Mexican food. We have nasty weather but it's gone by lunchtime.
Awesome you guys! Great vid!
Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Yes. Red or Green?
You should come to Gallup during the first weekend of Dec. For the Red Rock Balloon rally.
Oh man you guys missed out on going to the Trinity Site (White Sands). When you see the dunes, It's like being in a dream because all the sand around you is pure white! It's amazing. It feels like you're in the Sahara desert in another dimension. Also they rent out sand sleds!
Sounds amazing! Next time for sure.
what's funny is we tease restaurants on how mild their chile is, we will literally ask "is this tourist hot? or NM hot?"
Btw props for spelling chile the same way we do lol.
Feb is actually our coldest month of the year, so it will snow up that way, down south (NM) not so much.
That makes sense! Mexican restaurants in California are the same way. We’d like to come back to NM in a warmer month so we can enjoy the hiking.
March is a better bet, but it’s pretty windy, April and may should be perfect. May I recommend hiking in the Sacramento’s near Ruidoso? Beautiful area with lots of history, including Billy the kid and gang.
Thanks for the tips!
It is the HIGH Desert....so it does get super cold...wven during the day!
Hey I live in Albuquerque and I'm native American
Me too. Which tribe?
U said a small town in New Mexico Albuqerque isn't a small town it's the biggest city in the state
Let me be the first to like this comment lol. I still like this couple though.
We think Albuquerque feels like a small town because of a lack of traffic and because the people are so nice.
@@ELECTRIC-DNA oh ok I see what u mean u
I didn't even think about visiting the house until I read the Trip Advisor reviews. lol how NUTS
It was super cool!
The heat in the summer is intense. Been here a year and a half and i agree, the weather is unpredictable. Wlinter is really cold.
How do you like living there?
@@ELECTRIC-DNA I've lived in many cities. Los Angeles (most of my life) Nashville, Atlanta, New York, Milwaukee and St. Louis -- the kindest people to me are the ones I've met or worked with here in ABQ. The Vista's here are breathtaking. It's truly is as enchanting as the motto goes. Where else can you sit on your balcony and watch hot air balloons drift by? At times it's simply surreal. Thank you for asking!
Absolutely! Would you say Albuquerque is your favorite place to live so far?
Thanks for watching!
i love the way you described new mexican good ive never heard that
We’re from Southern California so we’re used to Mexican food, but New Mexican food was different!
Visit los alamos. And project Manhattan was up north
Great vid. Love the positive feedback. 💕
I'm from Albuquerque.. don't be fooled, it sucks here. Sooo much crime.
Finally an accurate and honest response. ABQ is a sketchy and dangerous city.
Bingo. They obviously saw the "lipstick on a pig" version of ABQ
This summer I'm riding Amtrak to Albuquerque from LA for an overnight. Speaking of Breaking Bad, I was really into the spin off show Better Call Saul.
I think you’ll enjoy it! Albuquerque very much still seems to celebrate it’s Breaking Bad heritage.
Cocina Azul would love this!
4:25-5:15
I was born and raised there. Your overview is perfect. The link below is about when a hydrogen bomb was accidentally dropped on ABQ. Whoopsie.
What an amazing doggie. This morning one was eating the spiders on my fence..
Yes, a roadrunner. . .he/she graced my space.
Wow how crazy!
Thanks for reminding me about spicy food. ...I love that!
Thanks.
Great synopsis of the ABQ! 🙏
Thanks! We enjoyed our time there and hope to go back soon!
Visit the Unser Racing Museum.
Pinon and Pine nuts are similar, but not the same. Two different trees
Great video! I love hearing tourists talk about NM!
Thanks for the info and for watching!
I'm going to Albuquerque in October 2024.
Yeah. Our weather is pretty bipolar. This year more so then usual I have to say.
So awesome you got to go to first Fridays I'm kinda missing that during this pandemic.
First Fridays was so cool, and little did we know at the time how lucky we were to go since events are basically over for the rest of 2020.
you did't try the greenchile cheesburgar
