This video demonstrates how to set up a Blumat 4x4 mid range raised bed kit.
This kit provides an easy, fast, and water-saving way to water a 4' by 4' raised bed or garden bed. No timers, batteries, or electricity required! This system utilizes a Blumat carrot (sensor) to automatically water and monitor the moisture levels in your garden soil. BluSoak tape allows for even water distribution throughout. When coupled together with Blumat carrots, BluSoak hose only delivers water to your veggies when they need it, which promotes exponential growth and impressive yields. You can also leave your BluSoak tape under your garden all winter, no problem.
Water source needs to be 6-10' above the garden for a gravity system. For a pressure system running off a faucet or garden hose, simply add a Blumat Pressure Reducer.

How it works

@@SustainableVillage1 do blumats keep the soil slightly moist for organic no till microbial life? Or do they let the soil dry out too much resulting in microbial life dying off?

5 years later. Is this still considered a good set up for a 4x4 bed?
if you bury these, can there be too much weight on them to function properly? For example could you bury the hose towards the bottom maybe a few inches up from the bottom, then finish filling the bed? I like the idea of burying them, but also don't want to be too much on lookout or disturb them too much for any transplanting being done in the bed. speaking specifically about a 3x3 or 4x4 living soil bed. ty
I understand how to celebrate the carrot but how do you calibrate the distribution soakers when you have 3 or 4. If the closest one is fully open than there won’t be enough pressure to supply the last one in the line. I’ve watched at least a dozen setup videos and “nobody” discusses this.
Just disconnect the 3mm line between the carrot and the first distribution dripper. Then do the dial in process. Once the carrot is dialed in, reconnect it to the string of distribution drippers. The drippers will provide even distribution of water, no need to mess with the black dials on the drippers themselves.
the dripper next to the carrot , inbetween the carrot and the soaker hoser , will be better left out, as its giving direct water to the carrot, better to let the hose trigger the carrot, for better all over bed water levels
that one is actually necessary to fine tune the carrot flow as we use the drips to dial it in. its almost impossible to dial it in with just the soaker hose. his dripped should of been a little bit further out, but not too far otherwise it will surely over water!
@sustainablevillage To add another 4x4 bed to this same line would you just put a T connector that leads to your next bed??
There are a few big issues with their setup info. Mainly that the hanging drip is super inconsistent. I can set the hanging drip and mark it, reopen the carrot to allow for a full flow and then close the carrot again and the hanging drip is a full carrot different? I have 2 carrots in a closed loop just like this ... Are you supposed to have each carrot closed and dial each in individually?
do you guys have a 4x2 kit?
Did the black center on the soaker hose get replaced or did I get a bad one. Have no center hose to hook to only the white outside hose?
You didn't get a bad one. The black center is not necessary for our new BluSoak 2.0.
Does that black barb not exist anymore ?
If I use a buffered nutrient how would Blu Mat do?
What size super flex hose is that? 8mm or 1-4?

why do u prefer the long carrot in the middle and the short on the edge instead of vice versa?
To monitor moisture level by nature the water will center by gravity therefore preventing overwater

couldn't you adjust the carrots without unplugging them by adjusting them so that a drop keeps hanging on the distribution dripper?
No
Matthew is correct, no you cannot. You have to adjust them with the hanging drip on the 3mm tubing
Why are two carrots needed? I bought a kit and it only comes with one. I am so confused and frustrated why the kit would only come with one if two are required.
2 carrots are not required, the kit works perfectly well with one carrot. However, the kit with 2 carrots is more sensitive to soil moisture levels because it is sensing at two different parts of the bed/pot.
Why would I be watching an instructional video on blumat installation, if I already knew how to precondition the carrot?
