Any plans of filling the hull with foam? A couple of large blocks in the bow would prevent complete loss in the event of a catastrophic accident. Copying the inner design of the Yamaha this is modeled after would keep it afloat in a hurricane.

Great skills bro! I'd like to make an electric version for my channel. You said 3 people could fit on it, would it be possible to scale it down slightly or is the scaling joined with the design? I would 3D print the jet drive and impeller. Think it would work? 😅

    • @homemade_madness
      @homemade_madness  2 роки тому +5

Thanks man, been watching your channel for years😅 I think it could be done, best thing is to just scale the big papers, and scale them down by 15/18 (0.833) Then you can use 15 mm thick plywood for the framing (instead of 18) and all the notches will still fit perfectly😁 also a 3d printed jet drive is possible, check out DK the welder, he has some cool small jetdrive builds. Goodluck👊🏻

Boat building tip: to avoid deformation, build up a hull piece by piece symetrically - not one half first, then the other half. It prevents potential warping to one side, and will also make things more even if you want to do seam corrections simply because they are fresh in your memory as you go.

    a few issues.
1 you should apply the resin before laying down a fibreglass layer. helps stick and prevents bubbles and warping.
2 You wore a respirator when applying the fibreglass but not even a mask when sanding it. That's how you die. Sanding Fibreglass is the most dangerous part

    • @tobycross4935
      @tobycross4935 2 місяці тому

yea was good up to the fiberglass part, it's a must to apply resign first let dry apply a 2nd coat let dry, sand then apply a bottom coat then add the mat and glass top, people forget that the wood sucks up almost 75% of the resign meaning it will fail rather quickly.

Not to take away from the excellent build but if you would have used the same panels you could have eliminated the frame all together using the “stitch and glue method”. It is the same process except no frame and it is almost as strong while being much quicker to build along with approximately a 50% weight reduction!

Great video and great designing, way better than I could ever attempt. I am currently building a stitch and glue sailing dinghy and I have a few suggestions: I am not sold on the PU glue that you used. Epoxy resin with wood flour or an additive like cel-o-fil that is designed for structural bonding and filleting would be a better choice. Also, try your hand at designing a stitch and glue hull. Instead of a frame with planks attached, bulkheads are used to add rigidity and water tight compartments for floatation. I think you could do it and would simplify the build process for any future designs.

Interesting idea. I wonder how a wooden hull will hold up over the years compared to a fully fiberglass hull.
Also, out of curiosity, why design a jet ski hull when the amount of empty hulls available for purchase for next to nothing ($150-$300) seems to be endless, and those come with titles. Is that a “Florida only” scene and not everywhere? Also, IDK how it is where you live, but getting a PWC (personal water craft) titled is near impossible here where I am.

June 19, 2018 Vision for Planetary Alignment
    - 예슈아커밍 / Yeshua Coming -
On June 19, 2018, I would like to share with you my vision for planetary alignment what Yahweh God given me.
    The vision started like this.
This is the old house where I was born. Whether it's been raining a lot or a lot of delayed laundry, I've been working hard on the laundry and hanging it on the clothesline.
I saw the eastern sky. The eastern sky was very purple, with large black clouds. It was a very scary storm cloud.
After checking it, it rained very heavily and terribly like a water bomb. And suddenly a huge tsunami struck between the east and the south.
All of a sudden, I'm out of my mind. Laundry and stuff, refrigerators and all appliances float on the water in a fraction of a second. I have no mind. It happened so suddenly.
I went out to the yard. Then, I looked up at the sky halfway between the east and the south. There were a few planets to the left of the sun, and some planets to the right. But before my eyes, the planets on the left lined up to the right, and the planets on the right lined up to the left. I was so excited to watch it. Wow! It's really amazing~ I'm looking at it like this, and my body is floating. It's a rapture~ Some people in the family went up and some were left behind. I looked there and opened my eyes.
On June 19, 2018, I saw a vision of planetary alignment. The time of the rapture is very near. A vision and a dream are different. Dream, I can't even remember what dream I had the next day, but a vision can explain as clearly as the dream I had yesterday, even in 10, 20, or 30 years.
This means that the planetary alignment occurs at the time of the rapture. When you see this phenomenon, you can see that the time of the rapture is very close.
The planetary alignment is scheduled for June 15, 2022.
    Yeshua is coming very soon.
    Prepare for the Rapture. Shalom❤️

Can you do some kind of design modification like that for the upper deck without changing the lower open boat, or should I just wing it myself? ? I am not very computer savvey at 70 years old. Sorry. But as a kid I had a 10 foot boat called a GW Invader with a 40hp on it and was loads of fun. Wanting to have something for a couple high speed runs thru my second childhood. Thanks.

Amateur Santa .... I was born by the fjord. Been in a boat since I was 5 years old. Today I live in my sailboat. Wear a life jacket on it. My boat is 44 feet long. You begin to settle into an unfinished hull. Without any security. So is the recipe for Death. Sorrow. Funeral for your loved ones ....

I appreciate you video but I am sorry to inform you but there is a guy in Vietnam who for years shown how he makes boats and jet skis showing the complete build and rebuilds of trashed engines with hand tools. Very inspirational but not in english and no subs. His cho. I will post a link asap .
I did enjoy and applaud your video and technique I am hoping to sit down and start a project of my own design too.

Your idea for producing wooden boats is great, thank you for sharing

Cool design, just not that efficient. Adding edges/ridges on the bottom and the sides that force water to stay in place or direct downwards would help the boat to rise to plane, specially since you have engine literally sucking water out under it. Faster and least amount of power you need to get it plane, more efficient design is. This tiny boat should have risen to plane in 5meters distance with that 4hp outboard even with all that back biased balance. This one looks cool but needs more power that necessary to skim over the water.
Since wood weights less than metal on those connection points yes use screws to hold them until glue is dried, then remove them, drill hole and hammer in wooden dovel with glue. This removes weight, hold more and you wont run into issue of metal rusting or hitting it if you do repairs or modifications later. For fiber glass i loath full fiberglass cover on wooden frame. Once water gets in, it starts to rot and repairs become really hard. Much rather use polyester resin and saw dust to fill the gaps and coat the bottom with resin. In high use spots like keel, you can add strip of fiberglass to reinforce those particular spots. Also note how water will run over the hull. You want to have the fiberglass be on the sides and the rear and only then apply the center part. This way its layered so if there is ever crack due say collision to rock, yeah water can get in, but if you manage to get it to plane on coming water does not create high pressure zones, but low pressure zones instead ie making it this way prevents separated layers acting as water scoop that makes it even harder to get to plane and force water into the hull. This way you have good chance to get it to speed and run it to shore before it sinks. Small things but something ones buying those plans can easily fix them selfs.

I wouldn't trust that transom. The fiberglass should continue from the hull onto the transom no less then 6". That is a very very weak joint.

a good alternative for the glue is "grip fill" the toxic version works better but use in ventilated area.

you could build the frame with styrofoam, The fiberglass is the strength. you need at least 12 more layers of fiberglass.

that's alot of work. why not build a polystyrene base with some wood for a motor mount/jet platform and eliminate the weight of wood? then fiberglass the body.

The entire point of a Jet Ski is the jet drive, for safety of the rider and other people. Using a propeller driven outboard is ridiculous.
