I was recently flying home on an air plane and ended up listening to my ipod. Half asleep this song began to play, and by the first two chords I was developing goose-bumps and fully conscious. It has such prowess.
Been a fan of Dresden Dolls for years and... I don't know, never gave her a chance as solo. Never really liked artists who go solo, generally. Then I listened to the album and got riveted by this. When I learnt about the meaning of it, I watched the video. Possibly one of the best music videos. Not for 'effects' or 'cinematography', but its simple message portrayed in a simple form. A moving subject given on a plate by a stunning video. Gives me goosebumps every time I see it now.
I've seen this video quite a few times, but today it really struck a cord in me. the whole way this song is put together, the video, the lyrics, the music is just so powerful. I got chills.
I like the follow up in the video of 'Guitar Hero' when she says 'uh-oh' upon seeing that her song was playing on the boy's iPod. It reflects how desperately people needed something to blame after the entire incident.
I realized half way through the video that it was about the Columbine shootings. It came to me right after I questioned my self, "what are the children hiding from?"...and then I was ashamed for not realizing it sooner. And lets not forget the time on the last kid's pocketwatch.
The concept for this video reminds me a lot of the film Elephant, where its spliced/repeated scenes of the same events occuring character by character. The white wash lighting was a perfect touch. I dont how I have not seen this video until now, its stunning. Altered the meaning and vibe of the song completely.
Perhaps it wouldnhelp some to k ow that in most of the live performances of this song, instead of the "F and S" stuff, the names, ages, injuries and place of death of the victims of the Columbine Masacre are read out. If u haven't seen a live version before I highly recommend it at least for the start. I constantly get shivers every time they read out something like (not exactly): Rachel Scott. 16 years old. Shot four times in the head in the West staircase.
you're the only person that does everything with love amanda... love for music and love for art...and i love you because you're the two things together!
Does anyone else get the sort of connection to Marilyn Manson in this video? The whole idea of listening to certain music which then inspires a killing spree? Which was what they said about the Columbine? Instead of blaming society's ignorance, they blamed the music. This song and video are so powerful, the simplicity and subtlety
Actually, this song as well as Guitar Hero are part of a series of videos on Amanda Palmer's youtube account using the songs off of Who Killed Amanda Palmer. This one is number 6. I recommend watching them all to get the full effect.
I didn't realise this video was about the columbine shootings until i read the comments afterwards then i watched it again its so chilling, and about something so awful... the video is very effective i feel like crying now
Her wonderfully bowlegged stance make me weak in the knees...she is so much more woman than us mere mortals could handle, and I mean that in every way - physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually...still, I wish I could try (curse you, Neil Gaiman)! :p
"A peculiar thing happened to me this morning Just as I reached into my pocket to find it empty of any sow I saw two broken twigs on the ground Shaped like the Greek letters F and S F and S... Helium, F and S These are the chemical symbols for iron and sulfur It was a sign, I'm sure, for me to make gold from these two elements I had been working all day over these hellish flames" Locked in his bedroom He saw the world A web of answers And cumshot girls Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick tick Don't bother blaming His games and guns He's only playing And boys just want to have fun He picked a soundtrack And packed his bags He hung his walkman Around his neck Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick tick It is so simple The way they fall No pain or whimper No sound at all Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick tick Tick tick tick tick Boom
The opening part is taken from a little show called Srindberg and Helium, they admitted later on the site that they realized their mistake in the video.
This song totally gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it. Which sucks cause I just shaved my legs...Oh well her music is worth the small sacrafices! ;)
I don't quite understand it? Like it's "eerie" and powerful, but the song lyrics themselves, what *exactly* are they about? Like how do you guys interpert it?
Yes, it's very interesting. Though, both songs deal with types of violence . . . It's not all that weird that Amanda chose to connect the two videos, as if to tell a story.
in my opinion, i think the intro was about how the shooter's or bomb maker's or whatever's thought process just quickly jumped to a made up conclusion. like the guy saw two broken twigs shaped like chemical symbols and immediately he saw this as a sign to go make gold from them. like how the shooter was tormented or whatever that he just jumped to the conclusion that he had to go kill them all. but i could be wrong...it could just be about how just darn funny those Strindberg and Helium are. idk
It alters the meaning to me because thats not how I first interpreted the song. While Amanda Palmer may have meant the song to deal with school-related violence or at least allude to it thats not how I translated it. This video therefore changes the meaning for me.
Does this not remind anyone (or vice versa) of one of the songs on the new Green Day album? & if you hapen to not like Green Day, it really isn't important here. I frankly like both artists.
Re intro puzzle: Greek had no F, that's how all those PH's got into philosophical discourse, for instance... further, i think you'll find that ferus=iron is latin anyway... anyway, more confidently... er, irony, anyone? Mad alchemist takes instruction from twig omen, which represents complex curved shapes... ie a nutter; "Ah! Sweet Columbine, you're here, now lief us wither away...!"
No One except me did not noticed that clock stops right at the same time, when Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris shoots the first bullet. They are the biggest victims.
The way she looks him in the face at the end... and then he falls... almost an avenging angel. Seriously powerful track

Seeing AFP perform this live was incredibly moving, and marks the only time I've cried in concert.
I just realized I've been watching these backwards...yet they still rock.
I like the follow up in the video of 'Guitar Hero' when she says 'uh-oh' upon seeing that her song was playing on the boy's iPod. It reflects how desperately people needed something to blame after the entire incident.
Just noticed she has one eyebrow normal and another swirled =]
I love her so much.
This album is like hearing music again for the first time.
Brilliant. Kudos to Amanda, Pope, the whole artistic team.
Omigosh I am still shaking. This song is effing incredible.
Amanda has the most amazing boots in the world.
This video is a reason why I bought such.
I bawl every time I listen to this song.

My favorite video from the series, hands down.
At first glance I just saw the 4 so I thought it was at 4:20, Referencing the date 4/20/1999.
It's actually 11:20 the time the shootings started.

Amanda re-released this in 2018 doing exactly that, on this very channel. Linky: ua-cam.com/video/WZgQ8-lYX7o/v-deo.html

I cant shake these goosebumps.

Love this song. And Amanda. I only got shown her music recently, but already I love it all :D
This song is so sad though :( As is the topic :(
Actually, this song as well as Guitar Hero are part of a series of videos on Amanda Palmer's youtube account using the songs off of Who Killed Amanda Palmer. This one is number 6. I recommend watching them all to get the full effect.
Amanda seems like she's Death, from Sandman comics. I know that's totally not what it is but it reminds me of her.
The Dead Kids didn’t her husband write that comic ?
Amanda...this is your best song thus far.
I've got goosebups so bad right now....
BEAUTIFUL vocals amanda
Tic tac tic tac tic tac tic tac... Boom....
Amazing song. I love it. I love all the songs from 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer', they're just too good xD
I didn't realise this video was about the columbine shootings until i read the comments afterwards
then i watched it again
its so chilling, and about something so awful...
the video is very effective
i feel like crying now
amazing just totally brilliant
Amazing song... really sad. This Video really fits the tone perfectly
Her wonderfully bowlegged stance make me weak in the knees...she is so much more woman than us mere mortals could handle, and I mean that in every way - physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually...still, I wish I could try (curse you, Neil Gaiman)! :p
@lunaticorthelover THANK YOU! I was sure I'd seen them somewhere before. I just couldn't figure out where.
"A peculiar thing happened to me this morning

Shaped like the Greek letters F and S

Locked in his bedroom
He saw the world
A web of answers
And cumshot girls
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick tick
Don't bother blaming
His games and guns
He's only playing
And boys just want to have fun
He picked a soundtrack
And packed his bags
He hung his walkman
Around his neck
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick tick
It is so simple
The way they fall
No pain or whimper
No sound at all
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick tick
Tick tick tick tick
Boom
One of the most haunting videos I've ever seen
I love this song!
The opening part is taken from a little show called Srindberg and Helium, they admitted later on the site that they realized their mistake in the video.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! i loveeee youu sooooo muchhhh
This song totally gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it. Which sucks cause I just shaved my legs...Oh well her music is worth the small sacrafices! ;)
i'm crying so hard.
AFP
This song is so sad.
STRINDBERG AND HELIUM! Oh Amanda, I love you so.
i adore this
What's the significance of the time on the watch?
@suchamisfit I think the key is "greek letters". You're talking about the older labels, before the periodic table was laid out.
Happy Birthday AFP!
:) love it
I don't quite understand it? Like it's "eerie" and powerful, but the song lyrics themselves, what *exactly* are they about? Like how do you guys interpert it?
Isn't this about the Columbine massacre a few years back?
F is the chemical symbol for fluorine
Fe is the chemical symbol for iron
I think its a tie between
Sing and Strength Through the Music
for my favorite
Yes, it's very interesting. Though, both songs deal with types of violence . . . It's not all that weird that Amanda chose to connect the two videos, as if to tell a story.
The song or her "death"?

Iron is Fe... nvrDless, I like her songs...
So poignant considering what has just happened :(
because it's fucking tragic.
Yeah, from the term Ferium, no?
That was probably the point :P Very bizarre song
Why? o.O
sou is like cents or change it means coin
Does this not remind anyone (or vice versa) of one of the songs on the new Green Day album?
& if you hapen to not like Green Day, it really isn't important here. I frankly like both artists.
ticktickticktickticktickticktickticktick boom...
Creepy.
no it was her father leland palmer ... >.> havn't u ever seen twin peaks?
its a slang term for a canadian cent
anyone see how this is about columbine
@ZombehsEatChoBabehs Do you know who's speaking it? I have a funny suspicion that it's Reggie Watts.
Sweet Columbine, you're here, now lief us wither away...!"
well who killed laura palmer?
Irons chemical Symbol is not F but Fe
Sulfur is right...
But still painfull good music.
Sounds like the mans voice from chocolate rain lol.
...what
But... iron is Fe for Ferric...
F is fluorine, if I'm not mistaken...
...
dn dn done the song ended NO THATS NOT CORRECT FANS LIKE THIS COMMENT!!!
i did not expect the original voiceover to be a fucked up cartoon at all....
alchemy ftw
lol
No One except me did not noticed that clock stops right at the same time, when Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris shoots the first bullet. They are the biggest victims.
Too relevant this week. #MSDH
wow. The guy that writes those god awful books?
IT doesn't remind me of Green Day because I hate Green Day and I love Amanda, so, eh. if so, I may like that Green Day song. xD
For those of you who aren't aware, Iron Pyrite (fool's gold) is a compound of "F" (or Fe, iron) and "S" (sulfur).
~Knowledge Empowers!
It's about school shootings so I guess that's kind of appropriate
her best video yet..
next to guitar hero and runs in the family
