- Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband have rejected the allegations levelled against them by US short-seller Hindenburg that they had stakes in obscure offshore funds used in the 'Adani money siphoning scandal', calling it an attempt of "character assassination".
In a joint statement, Madhabi Puri Buch and Dhaval Buch said the allegations were "baseless" and "devoid of any truth", and asserted that their finances were an open book.

The allegations in the Hindenburg Report is quite specific, whereas the counters by their targets are only loaded with words like ‘malicious’, "mischievous’, ‘manipulative’ ‘inappropriate’ etc. These verbose do not cut much ice against specific allegations leveled by Hindenburg Research.
Forensic financial analysis is the main product of the people behind the Hindenburg Research. Short-selling is their byproduct only.

Short-selling is not an illegal practice in share trading. The short-sellers take huge amount of risk while borrowing shares at a much higher price than the true fundamentals of the companies they target. They are likely to face huge losses of money if their analysis of the fundamentals of their target goes awry.
Isn’t it worth pondering why Hindenburg Research chose Adani’s group companies out of thousands of listed companies in India and abroad?
