My general tip is that a factory reset of your Deck can go a really long way. I did screw up mine a tiny bit because I didn't back up certain things correctly (namely, my library artwork that I'm obsessive over since I made a good amount for SteamGridDB + some assets are no longer on SGDB), but I noticed that things were running much more smoothly, it fixed a weird bug on desktop mode that negated my ability to copy and paste files (which was a headache for emulation upkeep), and honestly, there were a lot of games and shader caches taking up space that really needed to go. I'll take your advice on checking inputs, I play portably but I haven't really had a chance to check around and make sure stuff was kosher.
Appreciate it, Monti! I'm doing my best to streamline production moving into 2025 so I can keep videos dropping on a regular but glad to hear they're appreciated :)
That would be Ruiner! :) Oh I didn't even know they made electric versions of those so might be good to help clear out my PC case! The Deck I'd probably avoid it though just out of fear that it might blow dust deeper INTO the system, but if it's reversible and serves as a rechargeable vacuum as well that should still be helpful!
@YourPlayer2 Oh, thanks. Yea, I was looking for air compressors, but buying over and over was not for me and so I found an electric one online (they say none are as good as the can, but they seem pretty close plus rechargeable).
If and when you ever replace your Steam Deck sticks, make sure to get the Hall Effects ones, so that way you make sure you don't have any issues in the future(at least with drift issues).
@@YourPlayer2 Also keep in mind some replacements require soldering, while others don't, but it is an easy solder if you have even the most basic skills. Since the top of the sticks are capacitive, they both have a wire that provides it power. Some come with that part done, and it's a simple swap job, but the soldering only requires one wire for each stick(remove from the old one, and re-solder to the new).
@@chrislaustin Oh good to know! I'll probably try to go with one that's pre-soldered, although it IS tempting to get riskier because if I mess it up I guess I'd HAVE to get an OLED Steam Deck at that point 🌝

Hey Josh, I hope you're having a great week so far, I'm feeling a little better now and I've been playing Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One for the first time since 2016, I'm planning to record all 5 Games and 2 is the first one. One more week and I can finally go shopping, I'm looking for Tomb Raider Collection and Silent Silent Hill both for PS5 (I have the T.R. collection for PS4 but it has a lot of lag). December is around the corner, hopefully we will have another Playstation/Nintendo Showcase soon (hopefully), I really regret selling my Switch when I bought a new Gaming PC but I will get the new Nintendo console for sure. P.S. : I don't own a Steam Deck but it seems like a great device.
Yo Miguel! So far so good, just running around like a maniac trying to get ready for family coming over for Thanksgiving! Glad you could re-visit it and I always enjoyed the Horizon games just because they thread that needle between super accurate and arcadey, ya know? Good luck in your hunt for Tomb Raider and Silent Hill and DEFINITELY wanna hear your thoughts on the latter whenever you get around to digging into it! And I HAVE to imagine Nintendo's gonna drop something with the new Switch (allegedly) inbound next year, so no worries man, sounds like you made the right decision getting rid of it JUST before it would drop in value in light of an updated successor :)
@@YourPlayer2 Thanks Josh, I hope you and your family have a nice Thanksgiving, we don't celebrate it here in my Country but we have a lot of food for Christmas. :) I'm loving Forza Horizon 2 but my driving is super terrible. I had purchased the first base level steam deck and upgraded the SSD, it was a simple process. Have since purchased the OLED 1 TB so haven't needed to do it again. I use collections extensively. Every time I download/install a new game it goes into the NEW collection, then once I've played it, it gets "moved" to other collections (favorites, currently playing, various game categories, etc.). Its time consuming but ever since I got a Steam Deck my collection has grown quite a bit and its necessary otherwise I spend too long trying to find what I am looking for. Although if I have a major gripe, it is the sorting. I can sort by "Date Added to Library" and it appears to be random, i.e. I'll install a new game, go to library, sort by date added and it will be somewhere in the middle instead of listed first. Other times it will be at the top, its strange but so far no one has been able to explain why - maybe I am just missing something. I do have two completely unrelated questions for you, though. One is where did you get that wallpaper on the monitor behind you (looks like purple pink neon wave type image, it would look awesome with my color scheme on my Linux desktop) and Two is what game is running above the "wallpaper monitor"? It looks like a game I would enjoy. Probably not a normal question, but it caught my attention, I enjoy checking out other people's "space" and I love your set up! As always, great work, great video and hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday!
Glad to hear it wasn't too taxing! Ahhh, ok, glad to hear your approach to using collections since I was thinking of doing a video just on that point so I'll be sure to mention this- I can't tell you how many times I forgot about a game because it didn't have the 'new to your library' badge anymore and then like months later I finally dive in. Oh curious about the sorting? I don't thin kI've encountered that myself but I'll give it a whirl next time I'm doing some library management. As for your questions, I'm pretty sure I got that wallpaper from the widescreen wallpaper subreddit here - www.reddit.com/r/WidescreenWallpaper/. As for the game running in the background, that would be Ruiner! Another regular here, Gargablargblarg brought it back to my attention recently in a comment and I figured I'd throw up a let's play back there since it's such a gorgeous title! Glad to hear you appreciate the setup as it's DEFINITELY been a multi-year work-in-progress and I'm hoping to add some more prints or something to it at some point! Thanks for the kind words, as always, and hope you and yours have an awesome Thanksgiving too, brother :D
@@YourPlayer2 Nice! I hit that site often for papers (dual 3440x1440 monitors) I guess I missed that one, will take another look! Aha! Ruiner! You know what, I have that game but I have never played it - Lol I picked it up on sale a while back and its sat in the back of my "new" group for a while - all the "new releases" keep pushing it back. Played through the Spirit of the Samurai demo this evening, for example (very nice game btw). Will definitely check it out. I emulate on my Steam Deck and Ayn Odin 2. I actually find it less time consuming to just set up individual emulators on Android just once than go through the whole EmuDeck/Emulation Station thing. I've had a bad experience with emulation on the Deck once, anyway: I installed an EmuDeck update and EmuDeck would crash parsing ROMs. Forcing me to hard reset the Steam Deck. I had to uninstall and reinstall, still crashes. So I took the step of deleting my thousands of ROMs, reloading them (took a little over a day and a half 😤) and they were finally able to parse. I enjoy emulation on both machines, but Android is now my go-to. I have ES•DE installed on my Odin 2, and I purchased EmuDeck for Android (but I cannot find the download link anywhere on their Patreon) to give it a try, but so far, standalone emulators are doing the job well. Thanks for the upload, Josh!
I've still not tried the Odin but maybe someday! Gah, I imagine if I'd lost all that work I'd be reluctant to return to the Deck as well. That's a LOT of optimization for ROMs but hey, I get it- I try to make sure everything is displayed as completely and neatly as possible when I'm able. Although I have taken to only loading in my most commonly played or oddities I always WANTED to play for the most part. You're most welcome, Steve, and hope you've been good, dude :)
Great video! What are your thoughts on the white oled LE Steam deck? Also, remember to run the battery down to 20% or below before disconting it when working on the steam deck. I damaged the battery when I installed 1tb ssd. I was able to get a new battery from I fix it.
Thanks a bunch, dude! I'm not getting it for myself but it sure is a looker! Granted I think it' s specced mostly the same but still, if I were in the market for the OLED at this moment I'd sure take the leap on it. Thanks for the heads-up on running the battery down- I feel like I MIGHT'VE heard that before somewhere, but just the same that seems like something I'd definitely overlook in the moment since I'd probably be way excited to crack it open and get to work. Glad you were able to get a replacement battery!

The deck plug-in I've been waiting years for still does not exist. I want so badly for there to be a plug-in that removes uninstalled games from the homepage. You know like the switch or the PlayStation or presumably the xbox, how only the games you've installed show up on the home screen. If you go to the library you can still see them, but I don't want to see uninstalled games on my front page I'm obviously not playing them
@YourPlayer2 yeah you can do that but then it hides it from your entire Library. I just don't want it to show up on my home screen if it's not installed but still be able to see it in the library
