    7:45 really an underrated point.. I’ve done the same.. pushed it on and off-road and even on road I tap out before it does. I grew up around racing so understand speed/grip.. this truck can be borderline scary. It feels like the tires would come off the rims on the 37 before it would cry uncle. Off road it makes things that have challenged my 4Runner & GX 460 seem almost unnoticeable. Took a relative off-roading in it and his comment was, “nothing is hard for this thing”.

    I have this truck.. but a 2022 .. and a year later I’m still in love. It’s cheat code off-road (unless the trail gets thin .. when decisions have to be made when you can’t turn around) and defies the laws of physics on-road. I can’t think of any other vehicle I’d rather daily.

I've not towed anything as yet, but it does the job of getting me in and out of my driveway, it is like that backroad that you guys were on. I've got a 6 % grade at one point, where I have to use 4L if it is wet, or snowy.

    "Most Raptor owners have never been in the desert." I think you might be surprised. The entire west and southwest US (including TX for fun) has access to desert or semi-arid regions. Even OR, WA and BC have semi-arid lands east of the cascades. I've played in sand dunes in both OR and WA of all places! And the surrounding states/provinces can road trip it. The raptor owners groups I'm part of definitely do this. I take your point though, you east coasters don't have as many areas where you can let these trucks stretch their legs!
    You're dead on about the WD hitch! I had a weighsafe hitch to level and anti-sway with my raptor. Did a 3 state, 2000 mile road trip with a 5k lb travel trailer. Zero drama, dead level, no more sway, as much power as you need to pass anything, even uphill and 400 mile freeway range (see if you get that in a TRX, haha!) shockingly good MPG. And then you disconnect the trailer, air down and hit 60mph in the dunes! These trucks are amazing.

      @T4nkcommander 2 роки тому +2

      Fancy seeing you here! I've run with a lot of 37s (think you have too) and for the high speed stuff I've not noticed a performance gain. They do have constant problems with stuff breaking, clearance, etc. That should be fixed from the factory, but even Ford said 35s are better except for low speed crawling. The added rolling weight and diminished clearance is more of a detriment IMO

    • @peachpole

      I bet the 37s will be better in just about every situation off road. They will roll over rocks and holes better both at speed and going slow . If I wanted to buy a raptor to thrash in the desert. I would buy the 37 version. It’s just going to roll through holes and g-outs better and make rocks feel smaller. It helps that the KO2 is a nice light 37 as well. Just my opinion.

    @Truck King What was max towing on this specific truck? Raptors are advertised as having max towing of 8,200 and max payload of 1,400. Steven read the max payload sticker on this truck as 1,270lb. Was the 8,200lb max towing you mentioned the max for the model? Or max for this particular truck and what was on the label? Either way, with 7,000 pound trailer and you two in it, you were in the ballpark of max payload. If one was towing max trailer weight of 8,200, then 1,270 max payload - 820 tongue weight only leaves only 450 lbs of payload for driver, passengers, cargo, tools, supplies, etc.
    That being said, like with most pickups, if you are regularly towing over 2/3 (66%) of the max tow rating (regularly meaning every weekend), you will likely be better served with a pickup with more capability. 2/3 of max towing seems to be a reasonable place to be towing regularly in comfort. Sure you can tow right at max, but having some leeway makes for a lot more comfortable trips.

    Really nice seeing the Raptor in its element. Sure, with 500 fewer pounds and no V8 hanging off its nose, the Raptor will be more nimble in this setting. But the problem with that is very few will do this often, in comparison to being daily drivers and highway cruisers. That's where the TRX shines. Quite literally the best ride comfort, cabin isolation, and luxury feel of any mass-produced truck. Plus, when the Raptor R comes out, the weight advantage and nimbleness will likely fade.
    All of this said: There is a reason beyond offroading on why the Raptor and TRX are so sought after. They're quite literally the Swiss army knife of vehicles. Family, luxury, towing, hauling, highway crusing...all packed with the latest tech. You truly can't go wrong with either...except paying 20K over sticker currently!

    In my personal opinion I believe the bronco will put a dent into the raptor sales due to not having a SC V8 version yet. A 2.7l ecoboost with the most basic power mods will make just as much power if not more than a stock 3.5l ecoboost. Even the 2.3l ecoboost engines make great power when tuned. I personally would go 7.3l f250 tremor over the current raptor at suggested market price.

Of course the ZR2 lacks in the interior refinement/bells and whistles that the Raptor boasts…but that’s not really why you buy an off-road truck is it? The Raptor clearly tows more, but then again, I don’t have anything to tow at the moment 😬

    That rear suspension should be on every F150 sold...the rough riding and juttering leaf springs should be an option for those that need the extra payload.

    Grear video! Unfortunately I could never buy another ecoboost Raptor due to the poor reliability (and sound). Cam phaser issues, rod knock, starter motors sticking, etc are just a few of the common problems.
    Also, I think once you add a 5.2 Predator engine to the Raptor R, plus upgrade all of the Powertrain and suspension components to be able to handle the power offroad, you'll be as heavy as, or heavier than, a TRX. At point the Raptor loses amy advantage it had over the heavy Ram. Maybe GM and Toyota will get into the offroad game and give us some good competition!

    Most ppl who drive this truck dont ise it as it was designed for, ergo you may as well buy a regular f150. Its more of a status symbol. Just my opinion it does a lot of thing ok but nothing well, except perhaps hardcore offorad soaking up the bumps.

    Well, my F250 would definitely tow that trailer better but if I tried matching the Raptor off road first, the tow test would have to wait until I was done with multiple trips to a chiropractor and possibly some repairs to the truck. That is assuming I could even reach the Raptors speed off road without becoming totally uncontrollable.
