Lenny Kravitz is named in memory of his Uncle, PFC Leonard Kravitz of the US Army, who is a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor(The US military's highest honor for valor in combat) for actions near Yangpyong Korea March 6-7th 1951.

But after this song & video (because a sista w/ a fro like that killing the drums...COME ON!!) Jimi hendrix changed guitar playing forever He created so many new techniques that are used so frequently in guitar playing today You could say he is like Shakespeare for guitar playing
+David Glasspool To bring back the early 70s in the very 90s, when everyone was mad about Nirvana and all the Grunge thing, THAT was awesome!! And also a good reason this tune stands the test of time.
As a massive Hendrix fan, I have to say this is the only person who comes close in all respects - showmanship, technical ability and most importantly, the emotion. This song is our modern Voodoo Child.

Yessssss the Lenny Kravitz unbeatable rocker of those golden days of music,,,i remember my college days when I used to listen this rock,,it sends a magnetic spark in the body to ignite all the music senses,,,, incredibly rocking🎉🎉
I will never forget my initial 16yr old reaction to this video...it was along the lines of "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!" This track, and this album...it dropped at just the right time. There was a lot of nostalgia for the late 60's to the early 80's, at that time (93). But in particular, from say 87/88-97/98, the 'sixties' becomes revisited by many artists, and even in the case of the developing house/techno scene, once the Brits get ahold of it, it literally becomes the second incarnation of the 'Summer of Love'. The 'seventies' show up in guitar riffs, Dazed & Confused and Boogie Nights. All that to say, that when Kravitz releases this, 'Grunge' is THE thing. Hip-Hop is THE thing. This single drops, and it's got a beat....it's got a riff...it sounds like rock...it sounds like funk...it sounds retro...it sounds new. It sounds AMAZING. I met him (along with 49 others, lol) at a record signing promotion, and he just oozed Big Dick Energy. Like, even though he was very reserved and cool, you still got this impressive Alpha presence, from him. My 27 seconds with him was sincerely a moment I'll never forget.
I play this song every once in a while as I enjoy it so much. (I love the high-energy, the visuals, and the effort Lenny and the rest of the band puts into this music.)
This is just the perfect rock song; great lyrics, amazing guitars, that voice, hell I dig the drum riffs. Even the progression is badass. Played this at work a week ago and everyone, EVERYONE, had their head bouncing. The power of a badass artist on a badass song.
September 1994 Voodoo Lounge Tour, Lenny opened up for the Rolling Stones at Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh NC. I worked there for three days setting up different areas for crew and bands. This song would come on MTV and we'd lose our shit. The perfect blend of R&B, fashion and straight up rock & roll.
Say it again for the folks in the back!
🥰🔥 It gets EVEN BETTER over time I have found from the old MTV days 🔥
@@DivineInspirationsClothing Have you heard the Tom Jones version? While not better, it's awfully good too!
@@jasonprovenciowriter NO...I havent!!! You mean THE "Tom Jones"??? From the 70s??? 🥰😲
That drummer. Man, in my 20's jumping out of planes I thought I would live forever
Thanks to Lenny Kravitz and the band for giving us this song!❤️🎶
the modern jimmi hendrix
I’m Japanese high school student I love this song.

Cool...
Love it , so much energy
Lenny Kravitz is named in memory of his Uncle, PFC Leonard Kravitz of the US Army, who is a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor(The US military's highest honor for valor in combat) for actions near Yangpyong Korea March 6-7th 1951.
Love his music
One artist that should continue rocking this way permanently.
Simultaneously ahead and behind it's time!
Exactly!
I'm 56 and still rocking this song! Best song ever!!!!!
This song is what made this Lil black girl realize and embrace her deeply eclectic taste in music. Before discovering Lenny I was ashamed that i liked all types of music because I was teased for it. But after this song & video (because a sista w/ a fro like that killing the drums...COME ON!!) I knew that I was just a normal person with a highly seasoned taste in music and I felt sorry 4 those who were pigeonheld to one type of music😊
"Jjust a normal person with a highly seasoned taste in music"... AGREE !!!
This song introduced me to Lenny years ago...loved him since then.
As a drummer, this is a must play on the drums... pure fkn joy!
Literally one of the best guitar licks in the history of the genre. Amazing song from an amazing artist.
The guitarist gets all the credit for the sound of the song, but the bassist is clearly the best part of the piece 🤘🏿
2023 and I still can’t stop listening to this… much love to Lenny❤ tysm for such a great song
Happy 60th birthday, Lenny!
He’s 60? WTF? He’s still THAT GORGEOUS at 60?!? 😳🤯
@@TheeAntiChris Absolutely 😉❤❤❤😍😎thanks Lenny you got it always darly 🤩
He was born long ago
@@fairrodthecapacitor omg it's the first line of the song. Best reply ever
@@philkellr You are welcome! Thx you!
I have never understood that when people say some of his songs sound like Jimi Hendrix they are saying it like it's a bad thing or something. I think that's kind of awesome. Who better to sound like?
Its good to see those who bring the Jimmy Hendrix culture back.
Jimi hendrix changed guitar playing forever
He created so many new techniques that are used so frequently in guitar playing today
You could say he is like Shakespeare for guitar playing
+David Glasspool Sound like Radomir Mihajlovic Tocak
+David Glasspool To bring back the early 70s in the very 90s, when everyone was mad about Nirvana and all the Grunge thing, THAT was awesome!! And also a good reason this tune stands the test of time.
+StripyJACKSON5 Him and Eddie Van Halen
This video is ageless. I been dancing to this video for decades and people will be dancing to it for decades after I am gone. Lenny you the man❤❤❤❤
The drummer is simply amazing!
Thanks 😂
lol from a musicians view band was pieced togather amateurs..... with a Gifted vocal.....
@@TaleOfSeraph Drummer is Cindy Blackman. You have a trump like inferiority complex. Massive.
Cindy Blackman Santana
She didn't actually play the drums on this track on the album.
As a massive Hendrix fan, I have to say this is the only person who comes close in all respects - showmanship, technical ability and most importantly, the emotion. This song is our modern Voodoo Child.
That’s actually a great comparison
I couldn't agree with you more.
It’s 2020, still can feel 70’s music in soul
I can dig it !
Dis song is from is 1993 but i agree wit u brother
@@shumbachidawo2176 I started to say.....93.....it's been 27 years but I still cannot stop bobbing my head and playing air guitar every time I hear this.....that's when you know it's something special. The video being as f'n awesome as it is.....helps too. I went out and bought this single cassette back in the day......still have it.
It's more crazier when this came out, 1993, which couldn't be farther from a retro revival
It is a Soul music
Over 30 years later, still 11/10 on the cool scale.
Released 25 years ago today. February 22 1993. Awesome !!!
Drew Barrymore's 18th birthday!!
1993 have the best songs of all times!.
This Song still Rock's
Most overlooked song of the entire 90’s decade. Timeless riff and hook.
Exactly
The drummer is a beast!
She sure is!!! That's Carlos Santana''s wife!!👍
should see my girl @mo_drumming knock this song out! :-)
So is the bassplayer, not to mention Lenny himself 🔥
When I was in college that guitarist TO ME WAS THE COOLEST DUDE IVE EVER SEEN... he's basically SIDE SHOW BOB, GUITAR HERO.
Cindy Blackman Santana is a KILLER drummer!
Totally, she has a crazy amount of swing, and of course rhythm 🤘
Chills. I played this for my Daughter. I played lead and said u should play drums. One day I hope
She's so badass
Absolutely she was trained by the best drummer ever who was Art Blakey that was Miles Davis drummer. ❤️
Yes
The video that made me go 'wow shit I need to learn guitar'.
The riff is easy, anyways
+cgavin1 this song is harder to play than it looks though, trust me ive learned from experience XD
Fuck guitars, listen to that bass
TotallyNotZoid haha love that response dont play bass but ye its great
Me too, I never followed through on it tho
I don't think it's a mistake the rhythm guitarist looks just like Noel Redding. They are definitely channeling the Jimmy Hendrix experience.....and succeeding. I love it!
Damn!! You're right. I've watched this video a thousand times and never noticed the resemblance.
Beck’s bass player definitely had a hella Afro going on in the 90’s and eeearly 2000s do check out some of those live performances
This is where I came to Lenny Kravitz's music, back in the 90's when I was a kid.
My kid sister sang the refrain, neighbor kids were on shock !
I was 23, and I used to play this song in my 85 Prelude to 11. Styling and profile with a Blaupunkt stereo an tinted windows with the top down. 1993, what a great year!
2025 is so fucking impatient. It is already calling. It wants this kind of music back
I fell You brou
Hell yeah, this is badass rock and roll
Great comment...it Should be
the way rock should be... we need it back !!
So do I.....Priceless
It is a CRIME this song doesn’t have a BILLION views.
No That'd be the Crime
Song is classic. It wil live without views. Who care about? Simple
Assuaged minds always wilt when it counts 😮😂

@@amycarter8497 with 19 OD's I came back from the DEAD in 5 hours and....I read here a folowing ALSO...hah
Gives me a very 60s rock vibe.
The guitar work is a masterpiece of music
This song reminds me of a simpler time when I was growing up, it's still not too late to get it all back together.
Cool things in this video:
-The guitar riffs
-Hot AF female drummer
-that red pantsuit
-trippy ceiling lighting
And of course the entire song!!!
And that thumping bass line.
@@ScrivenerofDoomExactly, that mf hypnotizing bass line, specially after 2:23 🤤
Yessssss the Lenny Kravitz unbeatable rocker of those golden days of music,,,i remember my college days when I used to listen this rock,,it sends a magnetic spark in the body to ignite all the music senses,,,, incredibly rocking🎉🎉
Imagine being one of the extras in the background of this. One of the greatest music videos ever
Agreed.
This is one of the greatest music videos ever made and captures the vibe of America in the 90s.
This is my favorite all time Lenny Kravitz song. I remember back in the 90's with the big floor speakers and big screen TV blasting this song. EPIC
The energy is outstanding...Simple but drive you through the wall...Takes me every time
And again I have come to say Cindy Blackman's drumming kicks ass and moves this along nicely.
Hell yeah
@P J Pachasa Jr WELL SAID.
ask her for a date ....BE THE MAN FOR A CHANGE.....chicken
Sadly, it isn't Cindy on the actual recording. That said, I got a crisp high five that says she still beat the hell out of those drums in the video
I will never forget my initial 16yr old reaction to this video...it was along the lines of "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!"
This track, and this album...it dropped at just the right time.
It's 2022 and I'm still in love with that drummer!
This song still rocks over 30 years later, and solidified Lenny Kravitz as one of the coolest men on the planet.
I play this song every once in a while as I enjoy it so much.
(I love the high-energy, the visuals, and the effort Lenny and the rest of the band puts into this music.)
I always liked the female drummer.
This song is pure energy and powerful
This is just the perfect rock song; great lyrics, amazing guitars, that voice, hell I dig the drum riffs. Even the progression is badass. Played this at work a week ago and everyone, EVERYONE, had their head bouncing. The power of a badass artist on a badass song.
September 1994 Voodoo Lounge Tour, Lenny opened up for the Rolling Stones at Carter Finley Stadium, Raleigh NC. I worked there for three days setting up different areas for crew and bands. Snooker table, old stand up Pac Man machines, and the food for catering 🧡 Lenny brought a friend all dressed up as an Indian Princess. Beautiful. I'll never forget.
The lady on the drums is fantastic!
Cindy Blackman. She's awesome.
