We're so lucky to have you sharing all your knowledge with us on here!! I love learning about fashion and the history behind it and you're a fantastic storyteller💛
Kate - would love to see your take on how to dress fashionably on a budget. If you cannot afford to buy Prada, YSL and other luxury brands, how can you replicate these looks and dress stylishly?
@@ericas5067 At your local thrift shop. The most popular one in my area does not showcase only used clothes. It’s a lot of previous season, never worn clothes from the sales racks of department stores, with the hang tags still on them. Chelsea Flea Market NYC. It’s a way of injecting a little personality into a wardrobe full of basics!
Honestly you should be teaching these at fashion school. Can listen to you for hourssss explaining us all of this. Learning so much already❤️ Thank you Madam Kate.
I love these history lessons on different designers. Thank you for teaching us about Prada, and I hope you teach us about other designers in the future!
These videos are so insightful. I don't knw why, but I've always found it fascinating to learn more about the history and background on every little thing around. Makes it even more special you know? Have a nice day Kate, lots and lots of love 💗💗
Love your channel! I am a singer/performer and I would love to see a video about some tips on how to find your own style as an artist (who loves fashion but needs for it to be an expression of who are) and be able to style themselves before they can have a stylist of their own. thank you!
Thank God for your channel! I can't deal anymore with youtubers who only do handbag unboxing but exclusively only buy bags from the brand. Thank you for this episode, Prada is one of my faves! I love 'ugly chic'
Loved the fact that you brought up the concept of Dada art and how it was integrated into fashion. In the early 70s this was a major influence in Halston's design, Victor Hugo and Andy Warhol artwork. Great video, thanks!
Love this short history lesson about Prada and the brands heritage. Your fashion knowledge is so amazing, I would love to be like that someday. In the meantime I’ll keep striving, while watching your channel ❤️
Nylon - so synonymous with the Prada brand and who would've thought Nylon could be a thing! Love that they did the re-edition of those bags - so clever as everyone was chasing them down in the pre-loved market! ♥
I grew up adoring these brands Kate and i really felt great to see something that i love and thank you for the added insight into these fashion houses. Continue to do more of these Kate !! i would love to feature Versace or Dior or Fendi. Sending love
Hi Professor Young! Another amazing video in which you explain fashion through the lens of history, technology and sociology. I ❤️ your videos! I am seriously considering to save up and buy a Prada. Could you please do a video on iconic handbags for working women and provide some criteria on how to select the best bag, please? ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
Thank you for this video. I enjoyed the way you juxtaposed the multiple dilemmas in which Prada develops, the countless questions they are continuously asking thru clothes and the future-forward/intelligent way of creation (which for any [fashion] nerd like me, it is very rich). Also thank you for the “not the right way of doing things, but an interesting way of doing them”. This was awesome.
Kate. Welcome back! I love your explanation of Miuccia and the Brand. IT comes from experience in the industry and I'm extremely thankful that you are kind enough to share this information with us. I was wondering if you could dive into Chloé. It is one of my favourite brands and there's so much history there that I probably don't know.
Love, love, love this. You way of teachung us and seeing more in a piece of garment is great. I love to have more background information. Please continue! Thank you.
i love this. i've always wondered why high fashion was so odd and questionable, and it's been really nice watching your series to go behind the brand and the thinking to have a greater appreciation for it. thank you kate for sharing your knowledge
Kate, I absolutely ❤ your approach to fashion education. The fact that you situate the conversation within a historical context is phenomenal and very attractive for fashionable academicians. I am not an influencer nor a part of the fashion industry, but rather an academic nerd that appreciates fashion (specifically during the Harlem Renaissance). I would love it if you would consider dedicating a video to designers, models, and industry figures that impacted the 1920s. I look forward to your videos and appreciate your presence on UA-cam. Thank you!
Woah - I don’t know enough to do an episode on that. Book suggestions? I didn’t study fashion in school - so my knowledge is more about brands and things I actually work on and then my particular obsessions….
@@kateyoung Thank you. No problem. I will continue to support your channel because I love the content. When I think of the 1920s, I instantly think of Nella Larsen's Passing, which is not about fashion, per se. The book transports me to a time when women dressed well/ladylike everyday (no sweats or yoga pants, which are not a bad thing). I think that the release of the movie adaptation of the book will surely reference fashion in a spectacular way. Take care.
You’re awesome!! So knowledgeable & your use of terminology let’s me know that you know & love fashion. You’re re-sparking my love for fashion - thanks
I enjoyed so much to know more about Prada 🖤 this series is awesome: I'm learning so much interesting stuff that I was unaware of it 😘 Kate you are charming as always 💕
thank you for taking the time to teach the public the possibilities and future of fashion. I will certainly consider buying more sustainable fashion brands such as Prada.
Kate, really enjoying these videos exploring the context of certain brands and their pieces more. Also loved your Elsa Peretti video. I would really enjoy seeing you take this intellectual curiosity to the forum of fast fashion/environmental fashion, and exploring that realm in depth. I dare say you'd find more questions than answers, but it feels like one of the most imperative questions of our time. Thanks so much! x
Prada is my favorite luxury brand of the moment. It's easy to wear and use. I'm obsessed with the re-edition 2005 bag and the whole crystal collection.
I will always remember the Prada outfit that Sarah Jessica Parker wore to an award show (SAGs ?) from the S/S 2001 collection. Iconic! Thanks for another great episode, Kate. 🎈🌟
I got a nylon Prada tote as my work bag and I love it so much, I got it 70% off from an outlet store and only paid about $350 for it, totally worth the price 😍 Love it so much ❤
This prada dress on you reminds me of a little girl ready for her 1st day of kindergarten. I mean its nice to see how cooky prada is with its design. Also you look so chic
I'm so happy you're posting videos again! You're so knowledgeable and I love your style so much, so it's a lot of fun listening to you :) Greetings form Germany!!
Marc Audibet is an important chapter on Prada history not to forget. In the 90's Audibet worked as a createur at PRADA and was credited with helping to position the brand as a luxury leader during the 90's. Audibet is known for revolutionizing the fashion industry with his industrial project, the creation of stretch. Audibet is referred to as the father of the stretch fabric. 1985 Marc Audibet became textile advisor to the American fabric and Fibre Company DU PONT in an industrial project where the aim was to mix LYCRA with fabrics such as linen, cotton and silk.
I knew this brand because of the movie the Devil wears prada. That’s how i heard of it. I am a slow fashion fan‚ too. Now‚ I think i started to love them even more! Glad they became well-known despite the history behind that they were underrated before. I do agree that vintage pieces always remain a classic. I mean‚ they are not quite ugly 😍
Hi Kate. Love your videos, and I share them with my aspiring fashion obsessed tween. It is very few who manage to weave history, a piv, and art theory/history in this medium. Ps. We overlapped for 3 years in college, but didn’t know each other ( although I admired your style from afar).
Hard to understand why one would pay so much for that material. Even with those cuts, “design”. And when you ask “what is luxury”, hard to imagine utilitarian material being so expensive knowing it’s not expensive. How do you reconcile that?
Hi Kate, this video is fascinating. In future videos could you please turn down the background music in the beginning. Your voice was so drowned out I had to put on the subtitles. Also, idea for a future video, could you address the challenges of dressing a plus size star. So many plus size actresses complain about fashion houses refusing to dress them. But there is this silence from the fashion side. It seems like Christian Soriano is one of the few addressing this need. I would be interested in learning about more designers who are meeting this need.
The reason for that is that most of the clothes actresses wear are borrowed samples - they’re used by the designer for shoots, sales, etc so until things go into stores they don’t exist in sizes to borrow
Thank you for the explanation of the issue. But what have you seen on the fashion side to solve the issue? Are designers creating a larger sample dress for plus size actresses? Which designers are known for already dressing plus size stars? I only really know of Christian Soriano, Monsoori and Fenty.
When Prada nylon was sold in the 90s, I just can’t explain it - yes, it was so modern, so forward, the pinacle of evolved good taste. Having a Prada nylon anything was just so aspirational. Now, yes, it’s aspirational, but it’s just tacky. Everything nylon now is made to sell to the basic IG/TikTok crowd. All the clothes that Prada made back then did not have any logos - the rigorous design spoke in its own behalf. Now, everything is so lazily designed, heavily relying on logos and triangles. Prada was chic then because people sought the design. Prada now is only all about signaling how expensive your clothes are, and that’s an incredible shame.
I totally agree! I made a similar comment. The triangle logo is not appropriate on the clothes (although I think it works for accessories). It's no longer a question of wow, that is so beautiful -- is it Prada? It just screams at you the brand. Its sad !
What a great episode! Love the simplicity and practicality of prada, has made the brand so authentic and timeless. Would love to learn more fashion history from your perspective. Thanks Kate!
You need to start teaching fashion history at a school. I so appreciate how you approach the industry. I would love to learn more on Givenchy. 💜
Oh yeah a Givenchy one would be great ! :)
(No keep it on UA-cam for all of us lmao)
She is teaching fashion history, but doing so on a more democratic platform. We all can have access, instead of the rich or privileged.
It is incredible how behind each garment there is a story that makes you reflect and not just criticize it 👗❤️
That’s the goal!
We're so lucky to have you sharing all your knowledge with us on here!!
I love learning about fashion and the history behind it and you're a fantastic storyteller💛
🥰
Kate - would love to see your take on how to dress fashionably on a budget. If you cannot afford to buy Prada, YSL and other luxury brands, how can you replicate these looks and dress stylishly?
Buy second hand 🥰
It's simple. Find a sugardaddy and let him buy you all the Prada you desire.
Forever 21😆😆😆and Express...they copy EVERYTHING
Buy never used dead stock, have your tailor adjust the fit, and send it to the cleaners. Voilà.💁🏻♂️

So ahead of her time . Conscious quirkiness with style and meaning. Thank you, Kate.

How recyclable is nylon though? Doesn't the process release micro plastic into the environment and use a lot of water?
