    I didn't laugh, because I am a parent of an Autistic child. HOWEVER, this movie touches me in other ways, deeper...almost a connection of understanding. This movie makes me cry, but its not a sad cry...its hard to explain. I wish they would make more movies like this. I would own them all. Wonderful Film!

    thanks for uploading - Dustin did such an amazing job. I did volunteer work with autistic individuals, and know someone who has an adult high-functioning autistic child; his portrayal of such a person is so accurate and skillful. Especially the body movements; the jerk, off-gait walk, the off-focus staring, the eye contact avoidance, the obsessing over minute details. I have to admit the acting is so accurate it breaks my heart.

    Just watched this movie and I can easily say that tom cruise is one of the greatest Actors of all time!!! He definitely deserves Oscar in this movie. Raymond and charlie both are legendary brothers, the plot twist, the emotions, the comedy was at its peak. I cant believe that Tom Cruise is 61 years old. He will always be legendary and handsome.

    Interviews need to be like this again
    and classic timeless masterpieces like Rainman. For me Dustin Hoffman is the leading male star and character/ role that makes it so iconic and legendary. Love how dedicated, researched and detailed he has always been about his craft. King Dustin puts his heart, soul, voice, intelligence and body into everything he creates. It’s what makes him one of the greatest character actors and remarkable insightful human beings ever. Always love when he gets together with Bobbie. High respect and adoration for one another. He made me laugh, smile and cry all in one as well. ♥️❤️🎞️🫶🏻👑🎭🎥 💎 ⚜️😍🥰😘🥹🤩🌟✨

    Wow, for such a short interview, you end up with Hoffman discussing how he looked for the approval of parents of autistic people because he would be amused by some of what he saw and the response he got helped him with giving a tone to the movie etc. Wygant really enabled him. It's a gift to be like that to interview actors. So thanks!

    Notice how Dustin sometimes uses the word "retarded" to describe a condition. That was the medical term for it back then and what we called it. It's not a derogatory insult for crying out loud.

    Such a different time when this interview was done. To hear him speak about autism as an illness and to say the autistic's lack of eye contact is because they don't care; that they don't want to have social intercourse... None of that is true. Of course, I don't fault Dustin Hoffman for this ignorance. What he said was thought to be true in 1988 and he did a remarkable job of portraying an autistic individual.

      I think it is true for people with severe ASD. His character has severe ASD. Most people diagnoses as autistic today have much milder symptoms and weren't even considered autistic then.

    • @raea3588
      @raea3588 Рік тому

      @@BookClubDisaster As each individual who is autistic is just that, one individual with autism, we don't know what's true for any of them. Doctors or society use labels like severe because of lack of speech, lack of whatever can't pass for "average". We don't truly know what's in anyone's minds and it's not our place to make assumptions on their behalf.

    As far as I know the person this movie is based on- Kim Peek didn't have an autism but the FG syndrome.
    That's juat another thing about society the "lable".
    He has an autism, this person has this...
    and apparently it's not true..
    I wish people will just respect and embrace one another instead of labeling them.
