It is strange that as much as we are supposed to be hated the rest of the planet is desperate to come to western countries. Says it all really.

Murray you haven't been in the intelligence service have you? So how do you know there were better ways for Snowden to deal with what he knew? You can't. I haven't been in the intelligence service but I don't need to have been to know that they first thing they do is cover up for the things they don't want to admit they are doing. Just like every other agency of any kind and every human being in their personal lives as well.
And I have sent you and Triggernometry the info on the Nazi German occupation of the USA and the genocide of the American people. Yet you both ignore it as well as the info of the cause of all these identity issues and you also ignore that.
Again see, Murder of the Creoles of New Orleans 1935, UA-cam. And the supporting facts under about in Dropbox links.
But I don't expect to hear the truth out of either one of you.

I emigrated to the UK from Turkey at the age of 7 and then lived there again for 3 years in my twenties - I was in for a shock because every day I felt genuinely distressed by the bigotry, sexism, racism and brutality of everyday living. I even inhaled tear gas twice during demonstrations that I happened to be passing by. THAT is a genuinely fascist and oppressive place to live in, the UK is heaven in comparison. Why on earth would idiots want to throw away the best system that has ever existed in the history of humankind in favour of communism, Islamism and so on... stuff them. There's a reason my father brought us here and I am grateful for everything that I have been given by this country - a wonderful secular education that was free from bias.
So what if there is 1% racism, sexism and other problems in this country? It is fifty times worse in other parts of the world, especially the Middle East.

I'm originally a Hong Konger, I am very aware that the British literally got away with murder for some time whilst HK was a colony. However, I also recognize that they protected Hong Kong from the worst of the Chinese civil war and it's aftermath. They brought to a Confucian, family orientated people, the idea of self and individual freedoms and choice. I am aghast when I hear some of the woke crap about Britain whilst people in HK wave the Union Jack in hope and flee to the UK to continue to be part of England's green and pleasant land.

Similar thing is here in India ......or even worse.
I think we can't sit and cry about the history, instead we push forward
and there's no point punishing the current generation,
but Indians have agendas, stupid ideologies, and something about "Hindu Rashtra" and a fvked up government.
I can spill out more Wild shiet about my Indians 'the land of purity' _(but people will report this)_
_(one of it is our obsession over wh-ite women)_

Thumbs up for your comment but I have to object to one point. When you say "The British literally got away with murder..." you of course mean the British authorities governing Hong Kong at the time - which is a miniscule fraction of British people but is another example of legitimising generalised accusations against every British person.

@@caahacky Suffice to say the British in Hong Kong is a mixed cuppa tea, there were good and there were bad. People, individuals are tribal, greedy, selfish creatures wherever they come from. That's evolution. No one is perfect, no race is perfect but through the flaws there are flashes of reason, nobility and brilliance that surprises and delights. I simply acknowledge the former but prefer to dwell on the latter.

I love what Douglas says about the victim mentality. I was horribly abused as a child, by a violent alcoholic mother, who gave me up at 11. I have spent 40 years trying to deal with it. She, and her constant stream of abusive boyfriends, did permanent damage to my self esteem and my feelings I of self worth. I try to just suck it up and deal with it. I try to find positive aspects of the things I went through as a child. I blocked out a lot of my childhood, for a very goid reason. If I remembered everything that my mother did to me, I would probably be in some psych ward, wearing a jacket that buckles in the back. I too have zero tolerance for the whining and victim mentality. If I can handle life after all the horrible abuse I suffered, than breakdowns over misgendering are intolerable to me. The only caveot I add, is for people who are actually victims of severe abuse, neglect, and massive emotional damege done to them. These current crop of "victims" are damaging actual victims of actual crimes. They make me sick.

    • @AeneasGemini

As someone who also grew up with an abusive mother, I have to agree.
I'm also constantly sickened by the double standards of our society, we sympathise and encourage people who force others to bend over backwards to accommodate their trivial emotions, yet those same people will defend my mother simply because of her genitalia.
They're so quick to punish people for things which shouldn't even be considered infractions, yet at the same time defend or minimize the actions of monsters simply because they belong to the right social group.

There are a lot of similarities between modern anti Westernism and the "Leyenda Negra", the anti-Spanish propaganda that was spread by its competitors; grossly exaggerating the bad, at times directly making it up, and down playing or ignoring the good. Many Spanish people ended up accepting the propaganda, much like anti Western propaganda is uncritically accepted.

I suppose Douglas draws a line at treasonous behaviour. By exposing how we gather intelligence information potentially many people had their covers blown and could have been murdered plus the years of setting up these networks were ruined when these men exposed the information.
I feel sorry for Assange as Manning actually stole the information and Assange just published it. Assange is still locked away whilst Manning is on the talk show circuit. Manning should still be incarcerated and not had his sex change paid for by the taxpayer.

      Solution: form your own opinion!
I thought his critique of Snowden (he stole govt secrets and gave them to Putin) to be disingenuous. It was my understanding that Snowden gave that information to the media with caveats and strict rules for publishing. He did not give it to a foreign power. He reasoned that American citizens (not China or Russia) had a right to know the level of egregious illegal surveillance and data storage that their own govt had conspired to and gave that information to legacy media for public dissemination. Was that treason or heroism or integrity or something else? It is a pickle but you get to choose Trish, so relish it :)

Douglas, not an easy one to criticise. After so much success, not quite enough self-doubt, perhaps? The title of his new book was slightly unfortunate in that shortly before publication the Russian war with Ukraine broke out, and he had not given enough attention to what had been brewing - which is now of even greater import for the future of the West than the subject matter of his work.

Were they to go through ‘proper channels’ to deal with the issues at hand, the stories would have been buried at best.. they did what they had to do because they live by their morals and values. I love Douglas, and have read two of his books already, and look forward to ingesting the new one. However, he loses me the moment he talks about Julian Assange and Edward Snowden, much as he did when characterising Tony Abbott in another interview.
I've seen many interviews with Snowden, including on the JRE, where Douglas himself was recently interviewed. I get nothing other than the picture of a mild-mannered guy, driven primarily by his principles. There's nothing indicative that he has somehow been bequeathed an amazing life for taking the gigantic risks he did to reveal his government's surveillance overreach on the world at large. I don't get the impression that he intended to end up in Russia, nor 'sell secrets directly to Putin's, or that being excommunicated from the US was ever truly desirable as an outcome. He simply did what needed to be done, against colossal odds. I'm unsure what Douglas finds reprehensible about this.
Hopefully next time he can broach the issue with Joe. I would like to see a genuine conversation emerge from this.

What is Western ideology? Simply a democratic form of government, rather than authoritarian rule. That surely has not changed, but due to binary extremism the boundaries are being challenged. I must suppose that is what you mean and find so disillusioning. What I don't understand is why you should feel that you have to share the mantle of guilt. Your exile for political reasons is fully comprehensible, and your standpoint enables you to explain to others why you find your freedom in Canada so potentially exhilarating.

You're right, I don't need to accept this or share this but for someone who is trying to integrate into a new society, it is rather upsetting and disillusioning that people who were born in the western world take so many things for granted and are currently trying to question and as a result obliterate all the good things they've achieved, all the good things that made me move here. In the deep south, I learned all about the dark sides of our history and also the bright parts too, about freedom and liberty and escaping tyrannical rule. During February, black history month, we learned about historical black figures who did amazing things for the country or to advance society/technology. George Washington Carver, Harriet Tubman, MLK, etc. If kids aren't being taught these things it's because they started focusing on SJW activism and gender ideology and replaced the things kids should actually be learning. My daughter who is 21 was also taught all these things, and she went to a small town school in a rural part of Texas, that still struggles with real racism, and they still were taught these things.

Lots to agree with, but got to beg to differ re. Snowdon. He clearly made a heroic choice, but he is like any human, virtuous and flawed. There were no options other than whistleblowing and the fact they uncovered mass, unpatriotic surveillance of a nations own citizenry, is worthy enough and can't be ignored. You can find his methods distasteful but they came at great personal cost. Additionally, there is zero evidence for any deaths as part of Snowden's releases. They're egregious acts because they embarrassed the security establishment. The fact he sought refuge in Russia is hardly surprising. Where else? Continental Europe, Britain, Australia or NZ? He would've been extradited in a flash. As always there are swathes of grey to this story.

Well done guys, fantastic interview. I'm done with all the woke BS too Douglas!!
In all seriousness, what I am really loving of late is that by sharing the best arguments and supporting data (e.g. through podcasts like this) those of us that are still somewhat sane, or at least not insanely woke, are beginning to feel more much confident about our positions on some of these key issues, and act accordingly. This increased confidence is a trend I'm seeing pick up quite markedly in the last 6 months or so.
For e.g. I've recently decided to take a pretty open and direct stance in opposition to CRT and trans ideology, especially when talking to friends and acquaintances. To hell with what any stupid leftest says about it!! I'm fortunate in running my own business and being difficult to fire etc but it still feels risky sometimes speaking out. I am sometimes still at significant risk of losing business partners and customers.
My experience in doing this has been interesting... the more you try it, the better you understand how you can talk honestly about your views, and how people are likely to react. Would definitely encourage others to try a few experiments in doing this. Done correctly its pretty safe and very, very empowering.

@@Dancestar1981 So many fentanyl deaths. Except George Floyd whose overdose did not kill him according to the court.
My viewing of the video as an ex-bouncer being in exactly same position many times, is that the officer had his bodyweight supported by his knee on the ground. It makes absolutely no sense to put bodyweight on the neck. One jerk by Floyd and the officer tumbles.
Viewing the footage I think the officer had no idea (he could not see from his position) that Floyd had not finally stopped resisting and had in fact died. He looks shocked, stunned when he realizes what has happened.
My thoughts are that the officer did far too much to ensure Floyds safety. I would have made sure that Floyd was no danger (unconscious) if he had tried to resist. He should have pepper sprayed or used his taser at least.
A guy that big is too much of a threat, one slip up and the officer could have had his head kicked in.
It's easy for the public to say what should have happened, or that the officer was in the wrong. They've never had to repel an instant attack, or been king-hit or beaten unconscious. It is an extremely dangerous situation where there is little time to think, only to react and rely on the odds, luck, experience and training.
As far as I can see, multiple officers (too many) let the situation go on too long, were too concerned for Floyd's safety and in the end they got strung up for it. They should have got him cuffed in that car (any way they could) with the doors locked and got away from the crowd. To hell with waiting for an ambulance.

Disagree with Douglas on Edward Snowden, i will give him some latitude though as he's probably not been able to get enough diversity in diet on that topic. He hasn't got endless hours to listen to Snowden and all the interviews hes done.

What most people are not aware of vis-a-vis the intelligence services is that there are mechanisms in place at these agencies to report unethical programs and behavior . . . or, assuming the whistleblower assumes those options cannot be trusted, the major media outlets would be happy to break that story . . . or, assuming the whistleblower thinks the media is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the federal government, he could release the information online. In other words, there are several options a whistleblower can use.
Instead, he approached China and Russia, as Douglas pointed out. That is sketchy.

I'm a high school teacher. I wish I knew who to talk to, I wish I knew how to get an audience to tell people what sort of lunacy is being pushed in schools. The decisions and policies made at the board and administrative level are absolutely disgusting. If more parents knew - and I mean *really* knew what was going on they'd pull their kids from the system. It's bad.

Another inestimable discussion hosted by the esteemed duo. Well done and thank you. Question: what did Edward Snowden do other than expose the United States federal government and its intelligence community for flagrant violations of the Fourth Amendment? As far as I recollect, Snowdon was particularly careful to work with Glenn Greenwald to ensure that no actual national security issues were exposed, only the documentation necessary to inform the U.S. citizenry that their state had, once again, committed treason against them. Mr. Murray was very strong in his opinions about Snowdon. He even used a little invective, which surprised me. I thought he would frown on government overreach.
