Finally someone is talking with these versions of the joker
Finally!!!!
I think Mark Hamill's depiction of the character has left such A lasting impression that the other iterations have fallen into obscurity as A result.
“What a joker” indeed. I’d love to see you talk about The Batman (2004) Joker and The Brave Bold Joker. That second one in particular is very underrated in my opinion.
PLEASE, VEE!!!
As someone who grew up with The Brave and the Bold's Joker and Caesar Romero's Joker, that's be pretty nice seein someone talk bout em. =)
The Joker in Batman Unlimited is the second best joker. Period
@@ChromeFamily But that’s just Troy Bakers Joker from Arkham Origins.
@@Horneroid the performance in Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem is the best since Mark Hamill and it isn’t even close. He was an awesome Joker! Listen to him in the clip below
m.ua-cam.com/video/y_-h3PomDt4/v-deo.html
7:12 always cracks me up. It’s all in the hammy delivery.
What a Joker.
These Jokers sounds like Dave Chapelle when he does his old gangster impersonation.
this makes you appreciate what mark hamill did for the character. just amazing
I even read the comic joker’s voice in hamill’s voice
It's funny to me how these classic cartoon jokers felt like they inspired the original look of lego Joker which was my first exposure to the character outside of the Scooby-Doo/Batman crossover.
Lennie gives a bizarre performance for Joker.
Same here doc, same here. =)
@@tommyfox854 went back to it recently, ngl still a good interpretation of Joker.
Least in the first game, in 2&3 he seems a bit more extreme and cartoonish but still has some fun lines.
Still wild the Supervillains game got so many prominent voices from various DC animated projects.
I'll say, I do like the design of the Adventures of Batman Joker. It has a solid Silver Age look, and I think it must've had nearly as much of an influence on the Legends of the Dark Knight episode of The New Batman Adventures as Dick Sprang's comic art did.
They're not the best but they have a soft spot in my heart
2:03 You know American kids are built different because when these kinds of visuals were on Japanese TVs, a whole Pokemon episode got banned forever and Porygon never made an appearance in the anime again.
3:55 Awww hell nahh the triple K microphone.
To put in historical context the first animated Joker should be referred as "Filmation Joker"
To be fair, none of the animated Jokers were trying to be like Caesar Romero, they were just trying to be like the comics at the time, hence the different designs.
I’d love to see you do videos on more on these older cartoon villains
that aint the jokers, thats the jonkler and jinkler
Now while I do agree these Joker's aren't memorable, but the gangster style voice kind of goes with the original version. The original had that gangster look. But what makes it bad in my opinion is he laughs at everything, that's not The Joker. Now maybe there's a version out there where he laughs at everything but I haven't read it and I've read a little from each era outside of my preferred eras (Golden Age, Post Crisis, New 52). But Joker tends to do his laughter for things he actually finds morbidly funny.
The Joker was only seen once in the SuperFriends universe because of the legal issues. I believe Scarecrow and other Batman villains had the same issue. I actually liked the episode he was in as Joker does like chaos and I can see him teaming up with Darkseid and leading the Royal Flush Gang during this time.
Have you made a video specifically on Romero's Joker?
If so, can't find it, but if not, it's long overdue.
_"A far cry from the days where we'd wind up getting several versions of the villain on the big and small screen within the same year"_
2019 indeed kicked ass, between Cameron Monaghan's last take on Mr J & Joaquin Phoenix's Joker each knocking it out of the park...
And for completion's sake just a few days before 2019 started, the Joker would make a live action cameo in the last episode of the first season of *Titans* , which aired on December 21, 2018
(he would have a much bigger role in the first episode of season 3, which came out in August 2021)
... and just a couple years later in 2021 we'd get a much better performance by Jared Leto in Justice League Snyder Cut, accompanied by the shitty Joker 2.0 from *Batwoman* season 3, that aired between 2021 & 2022 (Marquis Jet, played by Nick Creegan, in a bad homage to the "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" movie... if someone reading this is interested in watching a comparison, I recommend cheking out the video *Batwoman S3: A poor man's Return of the Joker* by youtuber Michael Harlan)
... followed a year later by Barry Keoghan doing a great job for "The Batman" (2022)
Fittingly, 2020 was also the year in which the highly anticipated *Batman: 3 Jokers* would come out (I know a lot of people were disappointed, but I adored the conclusion, and the scenes with Joe Chill gave me misty eyes)
Nowadays were still have one more Leto Joker performance to look forward to in the Ayer Cut (in which he's, in a roundabout way, a Darkseid henchman, "not really the place of the prince of chaos that we know today" but he apparently has a good reason to work with Enchantress, who works for Steppenwolf, sooo?) plus Barry Koeghan likely getting another cameo in Batman 2, and of course we'll have the privilege of watching Joaquin Phoenix in his 2024 *"Folie à Deux"*
Yep, fans of the Joker and Lex Luthor have been spoilt to death recently, both in live action and animation (currently, Alan Tudyk is doing a fine job as the Joker in the HBO "Harley Quinn" cartoon... and he'll probably also be in the spin-of "Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!")
the Kite-Man/Golden Glider spin-of ["Kite-Man:Hell Yeah!" previously known as "Noonan's"] should be good, with so many references to Garth Ennis' *Hitman* it can't possibly be bad! Noonan's sleazy bar, and the con jointed twins Joe & Moe Dubelz It's crazy how we're finally getting an adaptation of these guys, it gives me hope for a *Hitman* adaptation some day...
with "the Boys" getting so much praise, and "Preacher" before that not having as much success but still getting 4 seasons, and of course the TV show "Daredevil" being such a huge success, which is relevant since a good chunk of the most popular scenes of the show come from Garth Ennis Punisher runs...
Even if we don't get a full Hitman adaptation, at least making a short animated film, DC Nation style, about the most popular Hitman issue (#34), the Superman crossover _"Of Thee I Sing"_ would be really nice;
Gee, I did it again didn't I, went on another wild tangent? Well if you've read that far, props to you random stranger, and cheers from France! May your days be long and your nights pleasant, Sai.
Rudin Filaro aka Randall Flagg aka Richard Fannin aka Raymond Fiegler aka Russel Faraday aka..........
Supposedly Larry Storch as Filmation Joker was an urban legend, and it's said this was actually Ted Knight.
Larry Storch confirmed he did voice the Joker.
I’m pretty sure Larry’s credited among the cast, at least on Scooby-Doo. Ted was Riddler and Penguin.
The Scooby-Doo version was my first animated Joker. When he came along in Galactic Guardians, I was happy to see him. I love that voice and how Jeff Bennet paid tribute to it in Brave and the Bold.
Watch Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem he had a tremendous Joker voice!
The Joker from the The Batman animated series was awesome 😎
Old School Cool 😎 👍
Interesting thing to consider: Dr. Daka, the villain from the 1943 serial could *technically* be considered the first on--screen Joker, as the character originally was just The Joker before being changed into a Japanese scientist to aid the U.S propaganda effort. Despite this, the character is still depicted as The Joker on the serials' posters, he has a funhouse lair, and he has slicked-back hair and a string-tie, making him look VERY similar to the original appearances of Joker in the comics.
@@Flyboy1953 best head cannon ever
2:41 I, for one, love his voice. And at the end of the day, the Joker is a gangster.
I know these will never compare to Mark Hammel's or Nichelson, Ledgers and others, not even Romero's at the time (who is still MY Joker), but as a kid when these all came out, I thought they were great. And I mean GREAT. Now, Romero even then outshined them, but as kids we just liked getting to have Joker aftually show up. You have to remember, we were watching Superman face a mustachioed uncostumed Parasite, a Prankster that also had no resemblence to his comic counterpart, a green Black Manta, a runty mindless Starro and everyone else not even being from the comics. Even as a teen, the Super Powers one was fun to finally see on the Super Friends (even though he was the least enjoyable of them all) after a several years of griping about his not having been in the Legion of Doom but Riddler and Scarecrow making the cut. Nice to see these guys get at least some credit; they were a generations (cartoon) Jokers.
@@Flyboy1953 You're completely correct. Wow, no idea why I remembered him green. I should've used the purple Riddler or yellow/golden Catwoman as an example. Some weird memory glitch...or I've slipped from my parallel universe where it was green. But probably just memory; I mean I do keep losing my car keys.
Huh, what a Joker
I'm old so I remember watching all of these Jokers as a kid. They all have a special place in my memory becsuse they were my first exposure to the character of the Joker, even before the comics.
I wouldn't mind a look at the next batch of Jokers one bit, but I would really like a look at the early animated Catwomans (Catwomen?). Just the variation in their costumes could be a video in itself.
Fun Fact: Frank Welker also voiced Darkseid and Kalibak as well as Mr. Mxyzptlyk.
I remember watching these versions of Joker as a kid, especially the Super Friends iteration, and yeah, they were passable. I think once Mark Hamill and BTAS came about, that became the bar that future iterations needed to cross. Great early work though because we really couldn't expect more from animation in this period.
Lennie Weinrib sounds like he's doing a Ted Knight impression.
Larry storch’s joker voice reminds me of Carol Channing
what a Joker, see ya
Frank welker is underrated as the joker. He took it to the next level.
Nobody got it right until Mark hammil
I’ve been away for a while working on certain projects but it’s nice to come back and see your channel’s doing well. I love the Joker! What a Joker! Definitely do more Joker videos! I would love to see you talk about Kevin Richardson on the 2000s cartoon!
JOKER GETS THE MASK!!!!! (if you haven't done a video yet, could you please do one on this topic?)
4:00 the Joker is being interviewed by a precursor to the world wide web and who else 😱
I think the reason Lennie Weinrib's Joker reminds you of a narrator, is because he seems to be doing a voice very similar to Ted Knight. Ted was the narrator on Super Friends. "Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice".
7:19 Catwoman getting close to Joker? 😰
These were indeed strange times.
Well, semi-recently they've also been really close in a couple of Tom King comics... if you're curious, you might want to give the DC Black Label *Batman/Catwoman* run that was published between 2020 and 2021 a shot.
(12 issues long, kinda serves as a conclusion to King's Batman run in general since it was cut short 15 issues)
_[Especially if you like the "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" movie, and want to see a sequel of sort... ]_
Also, if you like Joker/Catwoman getting close, the Tom King Batman issue #49 is a pretty solid read.
You're kidding right? They've made out so many times over the years
10:39 I love Frank Welker's joker 😊😊.
The Joker in ‘The New Adventures of Batman’ sounds more like Plankton that the clown prince of crime! 😂😂😂
Nice Video Bro ❤
And because of her brief moment in this summation, you should do a similar video on Catwoman too. These characters go through the motions, but the love of seeing the charm still on screen was really the only joy viewers got at the time!
The Joker in these cartoons was much tamer, he wasn't psychopathic or vicious, just nutty.
@@Flyboy1953 Which episodes?
my first Animated joker exposure was that Scooby doo and Batman crossover
but since that I seen Btas Joker,The Batman '04 Joker in that dracula vs batman episode,Batman Beyond:Return of the Joker,Batman and The brave in the bold Joker, and the Lego batman movie Joker
Yep! Thanks for acknowledging 😎👍
Joker was serving with that blue eyeshadow 💅
Frank Welker's voice for the Joker is only a slight modification of his voice for Mr Mxyzptlk, whom he voiced for the Super Friends from Challenge of the Super Friends in 1978 through Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians in 1985. So, to me, his Joker just sounds like a 5th dimensional imp.
Interestingly, Larry Storch's Joker (in Scooby Doo) was my introduction to the Joker back when I was a kid. Shortly afterward, during 1999, I saw Batman '89, and it was then that I realized that the Joker could be scary as hell.
if you were a kid like me growing up in that era you loved all these Jokers.
A friend is the spitting image of Adventures Joker's front look when he laughs 🤭
This was an era when cartoons were babysitters, bad or not it kept the kids quiet
Vee, would you do a Ceasar Romero video?
They all sounded like past their prime Borscht Belt comedians working the Catskills.
What a joker
The Larry Storch Joker was from a cartoon aimed at kids.
What did you expect? They weren't going to make him insane, super evil and de@dly.
A more kid friendly clown villain.
I remember a dc superhero cartoon tape I rented growing up which had a few of these cartoons on it
Joker is the best villian in fiction.
Larry Storch - pretty notable comedy actor of the day - was def the best of these
ngl it def feels like lennie weinrib (or the voice director) didn’t want to make the joker an “evil time for timer” in theory (in regards to 70’s filmation joker)
@7:42 The Batman Who Laughs REAL first appearance!
To be fair, the Joker wasn't much more developed beyond just being the villain of a story for most of his career-he pretty much sat out the Silver Age except for a handful of cameos, effectively vanishing from comics until Romero reignited interest, but not really coming back into a full story until "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge" in 1973. Even his short-lived comic series did nothing to give him a character, something that really didn't start happening until midway through the Bronze Age. These first animated outings literally played the hand they were dealt, which was a villain with a distinctive appearance and little else.
Listening to this, I recognize Ted Knight as the earliest Filmation voice of the Joker. He and Larry Storch voiced almost every male villain on the Filmation shows.
Cesar Romeo/60s batman joker is still a very different joker of today. Going back and watching the old batman along with the more recent cartoon movies based on the orginal show it makes you realize how a less physopathic killerjoker was back then. Mainly the only time joker killed someone was when he had a reason to and he got his kicks out of crime itself while new joker gets his kicks more out of killing people and wreck havoc for no reason.
I had completely forgotten how enjoyable these are, they are the 4th best Jokers due to their laughs and writing behind Nicholson, Romero and Hamill.
Deep voice Joker sounds like Yogi Bear playing the Joker.
the art in the Super Powers animated series was really good
That's Ted Knight as the '60s/Scooby-Doo Joker.
The creator seems to forget that these Joker's were based on the comic book versions - both visually and dialogue-wise - not Caesar Romero's version.
You also have to remember cartoons in the 70s were heavily censored for network television,so they could only do so much with the Joker back then.
I like that Dan Aykroyd Penguin.
I really enjoyed the Batman: Brave and the Bold version of Joker. He's a good homage to these older Jokers while still remaining somewhat menacing
Lennie Weinrib Joker: Deep Manly Voice (Cackles in Scrappy Doo)
So that where they give Joker a pet ever since.
What a joker we all know Mark Hamel Is the best
When Joker is at a press conference podium at 3:57, one of the press microphones is branded 'KKK'.
Look at that Microphone at 3:56 ! No way that would fly today!! I am certain it was only an error. Radio and TV stations west of the Mississippi River had to start with a "K." Considering most animation is done in Korea and Japan; it is more likely to slide/missed by the animators.
Old Joker bit still has some nostaltic charm
I remember the first one fondly from my youth
just DON'T Disrespect Mark Hamill's version of the Clown prince of Crime
The Joker in this style works well for Scooby Doo.
11:22
Frank Welker didn't make much of an effort to make Joker sound any different from Mr. MXYZPTLK.
Anyone else see these and always think of the jaboody dubs videos ?
Larry Storch's Joker is basically an impression of Frank Morgan as the Wizard of Oz.
I was born in 71 and these were the first versions of the Joker I became familiar with.
6:26 in all fairness, he _did_ do some narration on The Super Friends...
The scooby doo one is definitely one I remember the most lol we had those movies on…VHS OOOOOOOOOO🤣🤣🤣
May want to throw a photosensitivity warning up before some of those intensely flashing sections.
I feel like the only reason people remember this version of the joker is because of the Scooby Doo Batman Crossover and it’s not because of the joker himself. They even brought back this type of joker for that episode of Brave and the Bold. Jeff Bennant is almost similar but is way better it’s almost a middle ground which made him great but these original jokers are pretty forgettable
no people that grew up in that era know him from all of these.
You’re right but that scene with Joker on the screen is hilarious
I find it amusing that Batman’s voice actor looks a little bit like some of these joker versions.
Oh, come on, the early animated Joker appearances were for kids, and they worked. Larry Storch, sounding like a Miser Brother (well spotted, by the way), was still affecting in the role-or his voice was.
yeah he's not looking at it as like a little kid that grew up watching these cartoons but a jaded adult.
Frank Welker is awesome
Have to day, I dig the late 1960s Joker -- the look matched his rare comic book appearances of that era. I had big problems, thought, with the Catwoman costume in the 1970s Batman cartoon. The design of the character was fine in and of itself, but it wasn't any Catwoman I had ever seen -- and haven't seen since.
Larry Storch was actually my favorite out of this group.
I used to mistake Lenny Weinrib for Ted Knight.
3:57 [paused] looks like the Klan has a chapter in Gotham...
Hey that guy voiced redbeard in Scooby-doo
Well I didn’t know that there was a anime series before the 90s
I was only thinking about Batman not the whole history
Well I didn’t know
What a Joker? There must be quite a few of these, animated and live. Seeing just a couple versions was interesting. If you ever run out of animated Jokers, would you start on the live action versions? And Harley Quinn already has several versions of herself tho she hasn’t been around as long. Even that hyena has numerous versions
It's OK Joker for that cartoon, it was the First Joker for me, before Hamil's (Because i discovered Batman to myself with The New Adventures Of Batman 1977), so Hamill's Joker design was pretty similiar to this one.
I glad to see that someone talk about The Adventures Of Batman (1968) & The New Adventures Of Batman (1977).
You have my like)
