I’ve always felt depressed about being a musician because I had no motivation to play and practice. Like I am good musician I love doing it but I just can’t find the moment in my life to push on through and commit myself to it but thanks max❤❤❤❤ I love your content and silliness. You really helped me get through the tough times to really not give up on your dreams of becoming an amazing musician. Again thank max❤❤❤❤❤

This helped me so much oh my god, I want more than ANYTHING to march DCI, I only started marching in my senior year of Highschool (last year) and for years before that I just sat around doing nothing, but marching changed my life by giving me a reason to get up and improve every aspect of my existence. I’m happier and stronger than ever and I have a dream to work towards which has given me so much meaning. My only thing is my playing is nowhere near where I need it or want it to be and I honestly feel like I’ve gotten worse over the summer, I’ve been feeling so discouraged about my crazy DCI aspirations and I’ve wanted to give up so much but this seriously helped me so much. All my problems with my embouchure, fracking notes and everything else I’ve been stressing about are just things I need to overcome. It might take time but whether I practice or not, the time will pass anyways so I might as well work hard towards those dreams. Thank you for this!!

you earned a sub from me max, im from a small town in indiana and everyone in my class always praises me as the best player but honestly all i really do is practice, and while i appreciate the compliments i never truly feel good about my skills as a musician, after all im only good in this undisclosed town in indiana and theres always someone somewhere else putting the hours in, im going to be a freshman after this summer and am going to try out for all state, your videos have really helped me with motivation and given me good tips even though i dont play trumpet, youre definitely a great musician max

I'm 72 and retired a year. I thought when I retired I'd have all the time and incentive in the world to finally practice two hours a day. Well ha, nope. Every month I have a little less motivation. In my defense the entire retirement industry is founded on AVOIDING ANYTHING that sucks and hence the rocking chair mentality. My thought is, that is not only the retirement industry, but our society in general... the majority of ppl are brainwashed to give up pretty much no sweat equity. Take it from me: don't let this happen to you. Thanks for the timely video.

Hey Max, I'm planning on arranging a Medley of memorable tunes from band, and I'd like to ask you for suggestions on what to include

Max, I have a question. I have asked other places and even trumpet teachers and I have no clear answer. I figured you'd know this from your marching experience. I am a player with an overbite who has a very low horn angle. I'm having trouble with a good angle and embouchere in marching band, since my "overbite embouchere" is so weird. I've attempted changing it before but it only messed everything up more. What do you suggest? I am hoping for a future of performance in DCI.

Yes, this is also an issue I’ve struggled with. The horn angle we used in drum corps was actually quite a bit lower than what we did in high school. I’m not sure if this is the case for you, but dci *might* use a lower angle than you’re being asked to use now. I’ve had teachers tell me to stick my jaw out, or to simple put the angle higher but it’s not comfortable for me and creates new problems. It’s possible that having it lower is not only more comfortable, but better for your playing in general, look at Sergei Nakariakov! If you find having it lower is how you create your best tone with good access to the low and high register, don’t mess with it. It’ll be uncomfortable marching with your head looking up very high, but if you March well and sound good, I don’t see a huge problem. (You could also consider correcting your teeth/overbite with braces if necessary)
