It will take down anyone - every race, rich, poor, employed, disabled, homeless. It does not discriminate one bit. All it takes is two days of use and your body is hooked, and the withdrawal symptoms are so miserable and painful it’ll make make you do insane things just to get well. Currently I have cancer and have been going through chemotherapy treatment for 3.5 years, and I can tell you that cancer pain and the misery caused by the chemo is NOTHING compared to some hardcore opioid withdrawal. Pray for the addicts, pray they find the strength to get clean. They’re not all loser burnouts, some are your friends, your neighbors, your brother or sister, etc. - they need help and compassion. If they can’t recover they could die any day, and being stuck like that leaves you feeling so hopeless. It’s quite tragic.

@@JohnThomas-i4x - I think fentanyl withdrawals are just more intense but shorter than heroin. To be honest as a long time opioid addict, I don’t really like fentanyl. I got addicted to pain pills in high school around 2012 after a string of dental surgeries. I was on the horse till about 2018 when all my friends started dying from fentanyl (some of them right in front of me). I came to the realization that it just wasn’t a sustainable lifestyle. I’m a totally normal dude, came from a good family, no huge glaring trauma, I always had a job, a home, paid my bills but I knew I’d either die or lose everything. I’ve lost track of how many people close to me died. Fentanyl is particularly bad because no one survives, in addict circles there used to be those guy who were called veterans. Dudes who used heroin for 10, 20 years, with fentanyl that doesn’t happen. If you take those kinda drugs you get addicted and eventually die, there’s no way around it. I’ve been in recovery for about 6 years now but it’s something that never really leaves you and in a sick way I still miss the pills sometimes.

You're about to blow up, these songs are so important for the world today!
Dude... I don't know you. But i want you to know how proud I am of what you've been up to.
This is good work.
This man uploaded once, got famous instantly and now’s pumping out good free music like that. Amazing.
well, to be clear, he’s the lead singer from Welles. he’s put in the work to be this good
@@nathanaelink how good? Out of 10. Hehheehe, yeah sorry, I just don't like it that much. Your opinion could be different, makes no difference to either of us. I think it sounds like crap but I also thought it was funny which is why I said hey, maybe lean into that, in my own other comment. But yeah, it's not the best.
@@baplotnikadmittedly, it's not great. Let's hear your music recorded on a cellphone. We'll wait...
@@mattmarzula what? I don't follow your logic 🤔 what are you talking about?
@@mattmarzula and who is we?
Lookin like Jim Morrison and singing like Bob Dylan, beautiful and well written my dude. Please dont stop jammin.
You insult two musicians of high caliber with this comment.
I started listening to this feeling a little Judgey. I changed my mind halfway through. Very insightful.
That’s how a Morality Tale works!
This guy just came out of nowhere. Week 1 gang singing in.
Nah, he's been around for years
This is his 2nd channel
@@xp7575 what's the main one?
He’s on instagram and facebook
He’s also on Spotify!! He’s been around a while, can’t believe I haven’t seen him
@@rusland9 his 1st channel is @WellesMusic
The 1960's called. They want their genius back.
This is the first song I've heard speaking directly about fentanyl. Found you via Ren, excited to hear more of your music Jesse.
Wow man. So true. My son is forever 29 because of it. Thanks for bringing awareness.
I'm so sorry. May his memory be a blessing.
@@markgordon6544 thank you
My son too, forever 29 since going to a party and accidentally getting fentanyl
@scottyking6755 sorry man. It is a really hard reality to accept. Stay strong brother.
I just want you to know I've been practicing War Isnt Murder and its really helping me develop my fingerpicking skills. Thanks for being musically inspiring!!
i lost my dad to fentanyl laced painkillers. my dad was a hard working trucker, wasn't a junkie at all. instead was a great father for only 17 years of my life. but i'll forever remember him
Is easy for them to label people as junkies but there's lots of people out there that function normally and still work. Knowing what I know and the experiences I have had, I would say this... Lots of people who make bad choices but not one goes out to become an addict.
I hope your Dad is at peace now and keep the good times in your heart and mind.
"when you're poor they say you od'd when you're rich they say you were poisoned" hits way harder than it has any business to.
John Prine didn't die, he just went back in time and came back as this guy apparently.
Real music about synthetic drugs. This dude's gotta be one of the greatest songwriters of all time and I've only heard 3 songs.
Speaking the sad truth about how ridiculous our country has become. Your a poet my friend.
Damn. I’m a recovering “criminal” who has died (unsuccessfully) too many times to count. This drug and song is no joke. Subbed and liked.
Big rock candy mountain vibes. Love the song
‘Big Rockcandy Mountain’ rhythms there. Love it!
powerful song. I hate to add to the people comparing you to singers from the 70's, but this feels like a song Lou Reed would have written, and i mean that as the highest of compliments
I was expecting a dude on fentanyl, not a dude singing an absolute banger.!
Great stuff man.
That ending is perfect "dont worry its just fentanyl, shed only kill a criminal" hits deep as a long time addict. Never been an opioid addict (refuse to), but we arent criminals! Everyones an addict to something in their own way, some of us its chemicals, and that doesnt make us criminals. Like all the rest, truly great writing!
I'm an opioid addict that has just had enough, I'll try to get in rehab next monday. Luckily the only fentanyl in my country is pharmaceutical paches and they are not very popular, but there is a new synthetic opioid that is 10 stronger than fentanyl and its pressed into looking like the pills I use and as soon as it hit the market many people died.
@@jyripeltola6677 i really hope you get into rehab. addiction is tough and people treat addicts horribly, regardless you should be proud getting the help you want and need
Wellll the drugs turn most of us into criminals. I was both, because of the meth. Got clean, not a criminal
Fantastic.
"When you're poor they say you OD'd, when you're rich they say you poisoned."
Jesse appears to have truly hit critical mass. Good for him ! The thought that he might spark a revival of this style and sensibility for music puts a big smile on my face.
Wow. Former fentanyl addict here. Mind blown at how spot on this is. That last line blew me away.
Another great artist that I've found through Ren. Hes never directed the Renegades to a bad artist. I love this song. My city has been plauged by it and people are dying left right and centre.😔💖
Thank you! That's how I ended up on this channel! I was going crazy trying to remember how I found Jesse, and you reminded me that it was through Ren. ((And here I was giving all the credit to the algorithm gods.. 😄))
@@jessiczar387 Haha the algorithm God's can't handle me randomness. My playlist is REN, beyonce, eminem, Leona Lewis, nirvana, from gospel music, to rap, to ballards to heavy metal, the algorithm is like pick a flipping genre!! But to be honest at the moment its Ren Ren Ren Ren Ren, acts posted by Ren, Ren Ren Ren 😂💖 never praise the Gods, they're watching and listening 😂
“When you’re poor they’ll say you OD’d, when you’re rich they’ll say the poisoned if”
Ouch. Truthbomb
I know, it took me fige years to kick that shti, and im not quit fully clean
@@mrbanana1112 Stick to it and get off that garbage....good luck 👍
"Give money to a hammer, they're gunna buy a nail" what a line, man, goddamn.
Yeah I gotta give it to you this is very good. Lyrics, melody and all truly do a phenomenal job of capturing the aura of that drug. Blessings to you and yours.
What a day to find this.....
3 days clean of fentanyl.
Thanks & God bless
Pulling for you 🙌
I'm at 12 years. My problem was a life-time ago; it happened to another person.
Keep it up. You'll get there.
If you don't have Suboxone or Subutex, get some. And I don't want to hear shit from anyone about anything on either of those drugs - they saved MY life.
Keep it up
You got this.
Keep going. Things are so different on the other side. Like worms said, it’ll be like looking back on your life as if you were a completely different person.
"When you're poor they say you OD'd; when you're rich they say they poisoned it"
What a wonderful voice you’ve got young man. A cross between Bob Dylan and John Prine, I’m sure Johnny was working on his nine mile cigarette enjoying that tune from heaven!
Young buck you just made my day. I was firmly convinced we had seen the last of your kind. I thought the mold was broken. I would've sworn they wouldn't make any more of that model.
Please don't ever stop. Believe it or not we've been waiting for you.
Fantastic!! Great anti drug ballad!! With that gorgeous hair a little Nick Drake abd Morrison vibe going on. Good luck to you!!
As someone that was in a very long relationship with her and managed to survive this song hits different. Well done
I love that big rock candy mountain motif in there. Great contrast from the nature of the lyrics
Keep leaving time in the videos at the end of the songs, noticed you left a bit more each upload, it’s really nice to listen to the forest for a bit before the video ends 😁😁🙏🙏
“She’d only kill a criminal” is such a clever lyric
This was really good. It would be amazing if someone in power would actually listen to it and consider what the man is saying. This should be much more widely available.
My brother OD’d a few years ago.
He would have loved your stuff, man…hell he was such a rambler you may have met him when he was trouncing around Asheville…
You would have probably called him Nate (all his friends seemed to) but he was always Nathan to me.
Miss you buddy.
much love to you and rest in peace Nathan 🕊️
Broo this man popping out bangers DAILY
Man you got some talent. Bro is a modern poet
From Australia
That song hits the nail on the head, Jesse. You are a wordsmith. Well sung. Thanks.
Be Well.
“Give a dollar to a hammer, they’re gonna buy a nail.”
Love it.
Goosebumps man. Out of the 110,000 last year, about 100 were my friends. That's not even a lie. I was a travelling kid for years, and iykyk, and we need more awareness like this.
🫂 I'm right there with you! Lost to many to this! Cousin, godson old friend... This song hit hard man sorry for your losses
Thank you, I have a son highly addicted to Fentanyl, I told him from the beginning I know the government purposely put this killer drug out. I shared your song with him to his phone, I pray he'll listen to your video over & over. God Bless You, guide your path & always keep you & yours safe. Hugz from AZ
Godspeed. I hope the best for your son. And for you.
He's very lucky to have you.
Wish the best for your son!
So I’ll be the first to say I love the song and the style, the issues it addresses are dead on plus i love how he took “big rock candy mountain” and put his own lyrics to it. Give props to the kid and the originals
Can't get over the quality and vibe of this guy. Holy shit
When you’re poor they say you OD’d
when you’re rich they say they poisoned it
The sad truth right there 😢
I've been sober from fent for almost a year now. 🎉
Congrats 🎉 happy for you
Takes a lot of strength and courage! Good News. Now find a healthy outlet for your questions and creativity cause you have them and the world can always use another voice of health!!!
Great performance and song. A message everyone should hear and share. A song can save a life.
This person randomly appeared on my fyp a few days ago and I hope he stays forever

Big rock candy mountain goes hard tbh
@@catpetter you aint fuckin wrong friend! friend of mine and i used to listen to the track on a cd player every morning on the bus ride to school. alongside 'in a gadda da vida' and 'black water'
Harry McClintock ? It does sound a bit close, but eh great song. Only so many chords ya can use I guess ha. I've been guilty
War isn’t murder got me here. Keep up the good fight brother.
I love your work, every song is just fantastic. I love the folkiness of it all, and your lyrics are just what we need right now. It’s called truth.
"When youre poor, they say you ODd, when youre rich, they say youre poisoned" sums it up
So, looking him up, it seems like Jesse Welles had a rock band and has been around for about 10-12 years before all this so if he blows up, it won't be an overnight sensation and he has paid his dues.
250 days sober from fent 💪
❤
keep going, my friend, trudge on one day at a time and keep hope in sight
Omg you are amazzzzzzzing girl. Much respect 👏👏👏💕
Can relate I'm on my 5th week clean from the Vancouver. dtes
That is awesome in a sad true way! I'm in love with this song. U never ever know who will get addicted next it hits ANYONE, clean 5 years here from H, I got EXTREMELY lucky 😢
I've been really enjoying your music recently, but if you see this, I was wondering if you'd be willing to release 'War isn't murder' on spotify, I think it might be my favourite of what I've heard so far.
yes PLEASE release it on spotify ;-;
100% would be awesome
I never did opiates I did meth. For 22 years I was either high or in prison. Been clean since 2021, and yeah sometimes I miss it, even though it cost me so much. You're not alone bro. Hang in there. ❤
