Dramatic Silken Windhound New Harness

Silken windhound and drama queen Flynn gets a new Ruffwear harness. Suffice to say he liked the old harness better.
P.S. I later took him hiking in his harness, and he acted as if he'd worn it all his life. LOL.

Do silken windhounds need a certain type of harness or is it just helpful

Silken windhounds, like many sighthounds, are proportioned in such a way (deep chest, skinny waist, etc.) that traditional harnesses often don't fit them well. I really like how the Ruffwear Webmaster is designed with the double straps so you can get just the right fit. I'd say that harness is by far the most popular among silken people.

@@samanthawh8272 As far as exercise, it varies depending on age and energy level. They're not high energy dogs (not at all!) but it's important for sighthound puppies to have the opportunity to really RUN free and fast every day to develop properly. Leashed walks don't accomplish that. My adult silkens would probably be comatose in the house with a daily hour walk and zoomie time in the yard. We do a lot of zoomie time in my fenced yard and a local soccer field. Walks are fun for them but more for my exercise.

@@samanthawh8272 Most breeders, I expect, would not sell a puppy to a home without access to a fenced in area for free running. An adult might be fine. I do know a number of people with silkens in apartments, but I think they've been creative in finding ways to let their dogs run. Sighthounds were bred to run! It's not so much an exercise necessity but an important enrichment activity. When you see them really run you understand.

Actually, the silkens are wearing Webmasters, but the BC is wearing a Front Range harness. Both by Ruffwear.
