Only problem with coffees seatbelt is if you got into an accident he could seriously injure his neck, I recommend getting a vest which would clip near the shoulder blades instead of the neck
This is my favorite build I've seen for an outback. Simple, cheap, and utilizes all of the space while having everything you need ready to go. I've watched a lot of builds and they're all cool, but the simplicity and effectiveness of this one seems most practical to me. I like how it's just a platform and y'all just store above and below. Best of luck on all your adventures and thanks for the inspiration!!!
Great practical set-up, and cheap too! Clips to hold the window covers in place, and rope on the hatch door are new to me. Using the rope to secure the hatch while allowing ventilation is genius! Drift on, you lovely pair!
Yeah I really didn't have a problem with it (I'm 112) but I guess there are so many people with fat wives out there that they made up a rule about it. 🤷♀️

This entire build will work with any model or type of Subaru Wagon. I would trust my baby to tow a trailer better, the headroom is not enough for me to do this. Memory foam was the best call for that.
that was not memory foam, that was polyurethane foam. "memory foam" is code for "the shittiest foam ever invented, that doesnt even spring back to its original shape, which is why foam rubber compounds were invented in the first place", foam has one job, and memory foam fails it.
Thank you both so much for this video! My wife and I are currently building out our Subaru Forester and we are so encouraged and inspired by some of the things that y'all did!

This is awesome, guys. Just did my own vid about my Subaru car-camping set up which, compared to yours, is wicked hacky. Might have to build a bed platform similar to yours before my next trip.
I've had quite a few Subarus and always loved camping at them. I never bothered to build a platform, but it's just me and the dog when we go out. I actually bought an RV and on the two trips I made with it I missed my Subaru. It's harder to stealth camp in an RV 😎. Thank you for the video and the inspiration have a safe journey wherever you travel.

Thank you so much! It really wasn't all that creative haha and it looks nicer in the video than it does in real life just cause you can't see all the messed up spots but we've been able to see and do things that we never could have done or seen without it. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything in the world.
Mine is a 2000 Legacy Wagon, which is probably the exact same dimensions as yours. I'd be travelling alone, and have been thinking of doing something like this, but only for the passenger side (since the wider of the 60/40 split seat is on that side). It's nice to see that it can be done without a lot of money or a full workshop.
An idea for overnight ventilation is to buy plastic wind deflectors for all four windows and wind your windows down 2"inches and that way you'll have good air circulation but the car is secure and from the outside no one would ever know. Just a idea guys.
I like the build! I have a similar build, but modified, as I am 6'6" tall, and wanted to design it in such a way so I could use the back seat if I wanted to.
Agreed. I've had mine for 20 years, and the only thing that "broke" was the alternator about 8 years in. Even the engine rebuild that cost several thousand dollars was a maintenance thing, because at that point, it was an 18 year old engine with all of the original gaskets.
Awesome setup guys! one of the best ive seen!! just curious on how you guys get out of the car once the trunk is fully closed?? do you just climb out of the rear side doors in the morning for example?
Paige had to be the one to climb into the front seat from the bed and let me out every morning 😂 but we have a van now so she doesn't have to do that anymore 👌
on my 02' outback i drilled a hole through the trim and tied a string to the trunk release pulley, so you can pull on a rope to unlock the hatch and pop it open
I'm really curious re: the liftgate. You seem to need to pull it down manually---unless this is an older Outback? My Outback doesn't even LET you put it down. It operates automatically a few different ways-- in fact, will not stay open without draining the battery-=though some people apparently get around this. However, you are the only ones I have seen that just operate the door manually. Not sure I would be so okay with a noose right at my door--I have a vivid imagination. :) Thanks.
If I ever find a girlfriend again I’ll probably set my Subaru up like this, right now my beds 60% the width of the back and I have a big plastic tote, a hard case thing with clothes, tools behind driver seat and two back packs that go on the side of my bed... it’s pretty spacious though and I can sit up or kneel in bed. I love it
Just a hint....Tyler, your bed support is very flimsy..it even bends when you just rest your elbow on it. I just think it may give out one day. BUT...great video...God bless y'all.
What was the bug screen (bag you showed) that you placed over the hatch opening and where did you get it? (Apologies if you addressed this elsewhere in the comments.)
